    I read every single dialogue box of every quest in OSRS on my main. Some of the quests are boring but I think most are pretty good. It is nothing too serious most of the time, but the lighthearted and humoristic way they tell the stories and introduce you to the lore is very entertaining and I think questing is one of the best parts of the game alongside bossing/raiding.

    I actually learned last month that Guild Wars 1 not only still is playable through Arena net, they also sorta "upscaled" the game to work with current gen graphic cards, added 4k resolution and greatly increased the render distance.
    So I decided to give it a shot.
    Miraculously, my Arena net account that I made back in 2006 was still there. I got a new password and bought the "all of the dlc content" bundle box for like 20 dollars or something. I briefly scimmed through a new player (speedrunner) guide on the best class and story to get OP as quickly as possible and away I went.
    Its pretty fun, but Guild Wars isn't like other MMOs where you see players everywhere. You only see players in the main town areas, and there are several channels like runescape worlds, and each channel has a cap on how many players can be in there. But when you are out in the field where all the quests and monsters are, you're either solo or with whoever is in your group.
    What was shocking was the fact that Guild Wars still has a very healthy player economy, with trading, cosmetics and everything else. I can't believe a game this old that hasn't had a major update in over a decade still has so many players playing.
    While I didn't continue playing it, i'd say its worth the 20 dollars to explore the game and get to enjoy some real good internet gaming history.
    I played a lot of different MMOs over the years. But runescape is the MMO that I always come back to. I still pay $4.99/mo to this day.

    • @bananajoe275
      @bananajoe275 2 месяца назад

      GW1 was the first MMO I played. And I also tried to come back to it a few years ago. And nope it wasn't just nostalgia, they way the gameplay of GW1 works is just so different of any other MMO out there it still feels fresh. Sure the movement feels clunky compared to new stuff but the dual class system with only 8 slots makes such rewarding gameplay sandbox I love.
      I tried GW2 but the gameplay is really different, has nearly nothing to do with GW1.
      Besides some fun with classic WoW or before that private WoW Servers I didn't found any MMO that hooks me.

    The best way to enjoy RS3, I think, is as an ironman. Account progression is satisfying and attainable for just about all play-styles and you don't have to worry about treasure hunter. And regarding community, most players either find it in a clan or socialize in more heavily-trafficked areas. War's Retreat is usually pretty bumping. And with the new Fort Forinthry update, there's likely to be a lot of players there at all times.

    My answer to this question is the same one I've had for years; I genuinely believe that if you enjoy one of these games, you will enjoy the other one too if you just give it a chance. The games have a lot of shared DNA, but are enjoyable for different reasons. In OSRS the grinds can feel more rewarding mentally but in RS3 the rewards are much more tangible. A great example is Sins of the Father vs. Lord of Vampyrium. In both of these quests, you unlock Darkmeyer and a weapon that whoops some vyrewatch ass, but in OSRS the best reward for doing so is a blood shard which requires an amulet of fury to even do anything with. In RS3's Darkmeyer, you unlock one of the best methods for training prayer and combat in the game for ironmen which is also 100% afk, gives enough supplies to replace all of the super restores you use during the method and still profit on them, and on top of all of this gives decent firemaking xp as well. Completing quests in OSRS feels good because you completed the quest, completing quests in RS3 feels good because you get some bomb ass rewards.

    • @christ8048
      @christ8048 Год назад +4

      Im sorry but your assessment of reward in osrs is lacking. Unlocking darkmeyer in osrs opens the path not only to great combat xp, which can make you a great amount of money via said blood shards, but also some of the highest gp per hour money per skill via thieving and agility, with the hallowed sepulcher also being the highest xp rates for agility in the game. It's not nearly as flat as "you can get a blood shard that you cant do anything with" and your comment reeks of bias.

      With OSRS you should treat it as a lifelong adventure. That may not sound appealing, but I've seriously been playing off and on for years, and to see how far I've come is really heartwarming. While RS3 might give you that immediate dive into end game, you'll lose out on that sense of progression. It's similar with WoW nowadays, where in Classic it took 100s of hours to reach end game, but in retail it takes one session. I am more connected to my WoW Classic character than I am my WoW Retail one for this very reason. I can remember all the little moments and things that happened, areas I explored, but in Retail WoW it feels like a blur of constant shit. RS3 feels that exact same way to me.
      Also if you play OSRS on phone, you can easily get 99 woodcutting, fishing, or 99 in bank standing skills, all while you're out at work, on break, etc. Even if it is the slowest methods, you won't really care as long as you reach your goals.

      @@115UndeadAnarchy115 Lol you're being so willingly ignorant. People can go from 1 to 99 extremely fast in RS3, J1mmy even made videos about it before. The game does not have the same design as OSRS. MTX in ANY game change how devs go about design, or else there would be no reason for the MTX to exist, so then again, why would I play a game that intentionally worsens the experience when I could just play a different game that doesn't have MTX? I love this fucking projection you're trying to pull as well. "You want to spend xp, that's on you" The whole point is that I DON'T want to do that, so I would rather play a game that doesn't have that option, that is designed around normal xp rates.

    At the peak I was the "CEO" of a manufacturing corporation with 112 players. I was never actually any good at the game, but thanks to my disabilities I had the time and motivation to plan logistics and was almost always available to quell issues and manage relations with rivals and allies.
    Ended up earning enough trust to get tipped off that an internal power struggle was coming thanks to the integration of a Russian mining corp into our chain of operation, and I liquidated nearly everything silently over a week long period of when many players had IRL obligations with finals.
    I made about 5K USD, used that to help solidify my hold after emigrating to the USA, and to this day I cannot leave Jita due to the amount of still active players willing to sui*ide gank me.

      I personally highly recommend both games. Since you're already deep in the world of osrs, starting an ironman on RS3 wouldn't be as daunting. The first big chunk of quests is mostly the same as oldschool's, but once you get to a quest called While Guthix Sleeps, it fully moves into the modern storyline of RS3. And I love the lore in RS3, and if you love lore then you should immediately try digging into Archaeology in RS3 if you try it out.
      I played RS3 up until the day group ironman came out in osrs, me and some good friends have been going hard on that since it came out, and I haven't looked back yet. But lately I have been craving starting an ironman on RS3 to play through the game as it is today.

      I mean yeah you can skip to end game quickly, but therefor in OSRS, the mid game doesn't suck and is just as enjoyable as the end game. RS3 just went down the route of neglecting everything but end game content, while OSRS adds a lot of content that is irrelevant for the end game. Like the Ruins of Camdozaal.
      I think that's the main reason OSRS is more popular nowadays. This and that it's not full of predatory p2w mechanics.

      The high XP rates aren't a strict negative, even though they're a thing many OS players like to bash them for ruining the "accomplishment" of someone who gained 99s 10 years ago. High xp rates lower the barrier of entry
      If you want to get into OSRS bossing you need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your combat skills before that.
      If you want to slay some low to mid level bosses in RS3, you can take a fresh account and level it up enough in one evening.
      I actually asked an OSRS mate of mine to try out RS3, we leveled up his account for an evening in ED3 and went to some entry level bosses the next. It was fun but he decided RS3 wasn't his thing which I respected. Nevertheless, that wouldn't have been possible on OS xp rates

    Main issue with RS3 is it's running on an outdated game engine trying to keep up with other MMORPGs built on better bones. If I wanted to use a hotbar for combat why not pay a tiny bit more and play WoW/FFXIV? If I wanted my characters to look amazing with a myriad of customization options I'd go to FFXIV. At least OSRS is comfortable being what it is, and designs gameplay around the tick/tile system rather than trying to obscure it.
    The true answer is if you're looking to sink your teeth into a MMORPG you can do way better than either RS games for not much higher of a subscription fee, and if you're playing it as a second screen game you'll be fine going into either game. Maybe go OSRS if you don't mind the relative slower grind, and RS3 if you have better impulse control and won't get tempted into MTX, or more disposable income.

      I don't know why this isn't mentioned enough. Most of OSRS players play at the GE as well. Nobody in either game is mining 100K+ ores to level smithing themselves. It's not just a RS3 thing. And the portable skilling/dummies are not efficient and people who actually care about skilling efficiently aren't spending money on treasure keys. It's mostly junk. You aren't getting 99s in anything in 2 hours. Maybe 20 hours and $10,000 later, but it's just not an efficient method and nobody does it.

    In RS3 there will be more people bankstanding in the max guild then in the starting area of burthrop on 99% of the worlds. Saying its dead is a little hard because of how the existing rs community is. Typically you reach people in discord and go into instances. The rs 3 community is extremely tightly knit, to the point where if one account scams a preasul in a discord raid, all the major ones will have the player blacklisted within a day.

    Dark Age of Camelot I started in 2003. was just an insane game, came out alongside wow and was essentially the same game but slightly different premise. I stopped around 2007 and returned in 2017 and they had essentially streamlined the leveling process because its main focus was pvp. so the equivalent being pking being the only thing keeping runescape alive, so they streamlined the xp rates so everyone could max in less than a week, and the only focus of the game was pvp or high end pvm for BIS gear. was kinda crazy experience coming back and seeing players that never stopped playing from 2001. Most people that play runescape would have loved Dark Age, it just required fairly high end spec pc and a large download with higher monthly subscription fee. Dark Age also mirrored runescape where they had one expansion that decimated the playerbase called "Trial of Atlantis". was the equivalent of EoC update. Playerbase plummeted overnight. Fun looking back and seeing the parallel between the only two games I played growing up.

The only issue with Rs3 is the intrusive MTX's. Other than that, it does bossing, slayer, and questing better than OSRS. Pking is dog water in it. And before you shit talk Rs3, you all need to learn and realize that half of osrs's new content is literally changed up versions of rs3 mechanics/content. And you can not convince me otherwise that mining and smithing is so much better in rs3. Both are great in their own ways.
