This video is coming at the right time although where I live this summer heat is likely to hang around until mid October or November. Thanks to your guidance, Kay, it is a blessing to walk into my closet now and know how to make those little change ups to make it through the transition to the new season when the temperatures refuse to cooperate. I enjoyed seeing the trip photos you shared that showed how well your principles worked. So glad you had such a wonderful time.
I appreciate you so much Kay! I’m 63 and retired last year. When I retired I took 90% of my closet to GoodW Will, so I’ve been rebuilding my closet since then. You have really educated me about wardrobe essentials. I am petite so I need to adapt some themes, but I am miles ahead of where I used to be. I feel great and appreciate your information!
I do so appreciate your insight on fashion for those of us over 50 (over 70 in my case😉). I am dressing differently these days and receiving many compliments thanks to your encouragement. Thanks for your hard work!
Amen, wholeheartedly! But, as some commenters have stated, the fall fashion is great, and definitely my favorite fashion season! Love your videos, Kay!
Great transition wardrobe ideas! I live in Richmond,VA. It will be hot here until October. Kay has given the Southern girls some options to stay cool and look relevant!
I have a beautiful tan trench coat (from Nordstrom) that I bought over 35 years ago. Haven’t worn it in years but it’s still perfect and I’m glad I saved it. Actually it was too small after having kids but now it finally fits great again.
I think the longer more fitted plants look better. The wide pants are too short and look a bit frumpy-they seem to make the overall look kind of heavy and are not one bit slimming. I found beautiful cargo pants at Banana Republic last fall--a very flattering fit and I always get compliments on them.
It's hot today in Northern California BUT a few leaves are turning gold and about to fall. I'm excited and ready for the next season. Thank you for helping us prepare to LOOK OUR BEST!
I have been wearing cargo pants for years. My favorites are from LLBean. I think I have them in almost every color. They have a little stretch and come in petite sizes (which I need). They are my go to pants for fall, along with the chinos from Talbots.
You inspired me to buy a pair of wider/looser/longer length Levi Signature jeans this week (thank you as I would never have even looked at them at my age.) They are so comfortable so I'll see how it goes! I also saw two of the "cropped" type of pull on sweater vests in the store this week as well. Our midwestern area is quite a ways behind of modern fashion. EVERYTHING in our stores are still the longer tops. I did dig out my favorite denim unconstructed jacket/blazer. A jean jacket just does not work for my wide shoulders/large bust top area.
Thank you for more great tips, Kay! I ordered the J. Crew vest and can’t wait to receive it. I’m on the lookout for a trench coat in a petite size. Love every piece you show in this video. Thank you!
Thanks Kay! Look forward to your videos every week and your daily blogs. Love the utility/cargo pants! They are becoming one of my favorites this year. Thanks for showing us how to style them.
I do a wardrobe rotation every three months, but we’re still in the peak hot season. It’s about 100F and will remain hot through September and October. In the third week of October, I’ll start bringing out more fall items. It’s always hard this time of year, I can’t stand the heat and it seems to go on forever, but we were lucky with a very cool spring and early summer this year. I’m longing for my boots, blazers and knits❤
Thank you for this helpful transitioning information. I am so glad the tailored blazer is trending again. I always wear mine anyway. God bless you, Kay 🙏 ❤️
Thank you for another great video. The “essential” videos that you do are among my favorites. Your tips are so on point, and I enjoy seeing how you put these basic items together. I’ve added a vest to my wish list!
Thank you for sharing wonderful outfits and I love the different price points as well. I really like the cargo pants from Kohl’s and ordered two pairs along with a graphic tshirt to wear with my denim jacket.
Love your relevant & timely content. Even after your European vacation! Hope you had a great trip. I’ve been following you for years! I always loved vests. Glad they’re back.
Denim trucker jacket, denim dresses, and denim skirts can be found at thrift shops for a steal. No need to buy new. Also, I have every color of cotton, crewneck, cable stitch sweaters by major brand names, all purchased at the thrift store.
Not all thrift stores carry merchandise that's high quality. I came from a small town where the local thrift store had practically brand-new stuff from Neiman Marcus and Brooks Brothers. Some of the best clothes I ever had came from that store. Then I moved to another town with two thrift stores, and it's mostly junk. Old, worn-out clothes, cheap stuff. I haven't bought anything from a thrift store in 30 years because it's all junk here. However, I do buy at clearance sales online. I've been able to get as much as 90% off. I sign up for sale notices, so flash sales get me amazing bargains, like a $200 cashmere sweater for $39, or a $210 Talbots wool blazer for $50. $70 Land's End Drifter cotton cable sweaters for $13.
@@edennis8578 Another option for you might be the unclaimed baggage website where you can buy gently used stuff that was never claimed. You should be able to google their website. Cheers!
Thanks for the great video on fall transition. Good reminder on wearing shoes (and other transition pieces) that have a limited life if you live in a cold/snowy climate. You always have great inspirational information. Thanks!
Welcome back, Kay. Especially liked the striped shirt with the plaid jacket. Cropped pants and jeans look so good on some women, but I do not have ankles that I want to reveal so will always stick with full-length. Look forward to finding out how your travel wardrobe worked in London. Thanks.
I always love your videos presentations. As far as cargo pants are concerned, I have a different viewpoint than some. Not all items work uniformly for all people. That will always be the case as we are all uniquely made. I did not think I could wear cargo pants but found, for my body shape, they work really well.
Love the vests and will purchase for the fall. Also, love the green cargos and white shirts. I have been using some of your suggestions to purchase from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I am very interested in creating a capsule wardrobe and really enjoy and appreciate your ideas. Thank you, Kay, for all the effort you put into your stellar blog! Just what I was look for!
Hello Kay. I have been subscribed to your channel for a few months now and really enjoy your tips. I just purchased a white button down that I really like from JC Penny. It's by Liz Claiborne and has a button plaquet which I think gives it a dressy look. At $44 I think it's an excellent item for my wardrobe that is affordable quality.
Thanks for the great video Kay. I always look forward to your video every week. I just recommened it to my sister a couple of days ago because she's going to do a big shopping haul at Talbots for wardrobe basics. She wasn't aware of the capsule concept so I'm sure she'll learn a lot from your videos.
Thank you for these tips, Kay! Would you please do a video or blog on your London adventures? I love London, but having been in years. Where you went, restaurants, theater, etc., also what were people wearing, and did you go shopping? Thanks
Hi! I don't think I'll be doing a video about it, but I shared a lot on my blog this week, specifically in today's post: dressedformyday.com/what-i-wore-in-london-and-answers-to-your-questions/
Welcome back, sweetheart Kay. U were missed, and you also look great. Your hairdo is sooo cute. God bless you, for sharing, you look great in all the looks. The shoes, look so comfortable too. Thanks again for everything. 😘🙏👍❤️🌻🌹🌟✝️✨
I live in the Midwest (Iowa), so the warm weather will continue for at least another month. How long can I wear linen pants? I'm sure I can do "whatever I want", but I really would like your advice on it.
I don’t like regular cargoes because they make me look big but I might have to try the slim option. I’ve seen some cargo pants that are shaped like skinny jeans.
Hi Kaye. Thank you for going through all these "best pieces for fall". I am in my early 70s, and I am still awaiting the end of the distressed jean look and the prefaded patches on jeans and jean skirts. I love dark blue denim and black denim but do not want these faded spots. Any idea when this "sloppy casual" trend will end? Why can't our denim clothing be all one color? Why does it have to have faded patches or holes? The mules are another trend I cannot get on board with. They remind me of the backless slippers we had growing up that we called scuffs. They are not the easiest things to walk in, and even make slapping noises as you walk. Otherwise, I am very happy with the trends you are showing. And you did a great job on this video as always. Thank you!
And I love the faded , distressed look. I’m very natural , laid back, an organic gardener and have always been a full time mom and homemaker. Plus I’ve always lived in Southern California. ( I’m 65 ) . I feel silly in dark jeans because it’s too structured and formal. I’m wondering if you think it’s a career choice thing , a regional thing or a personality thing? So interesting we are all so different .
I totally agree. I wear Lee jeans a lot, and lately all of their blue denim has faded wear lines from the crotch spreading outward to the hip. A lot of customers aren't happy about that. Their black jeans don't have those lines. Jeans from Talbots and Appleseed's don't seem to have them, either, but I can get Lee's on sale under $25, but Talbots and Appleseed's rarely have sale prices that low on their jeans.
@edennis8578 yes, I dislike those lines, too! I have not purchased denim in several years. Still wearing my years-old jeans, and they still do not have those lines or the light patches on the thighs and butt that all the newer jeans seem to have. Whose jeans "fade" in these areas for real? So unflattering.
@mbvoelker8448 please let me know if you do! The time I purchased jeans, I bought directly from Lee Jeans online, and I was able to get 100% cotton in a dark wash with none of the whiskering or light patches, but that was several years ago, and they were on sale. I think I paid $26 for them then.
I think your suggestions are spot on Kay! I sew a good portion of my wardrobe but do purchase a few key pieces. I love adding a vest over a button up or tee. One of my favorites is a shell or tee under a denim jacket, or cardigan. I overheat, so layers are my go too!
I love your like style! I just cant wear pants that stop at my ankle. It just seems off. It makes shorter women look shorter and it makes taller women look like they cant find long enough pants. The half tuck kind of majes mr feel like OCD crazy . Lol. Love the classics list, though!
Love watching Kay and the basics videos are always great. I’m from Adelaide Australia and now I am shopping with USA stores a lot. Wish Talbots did international shipping
In the future, can you can help us with some fall footwear that looks good when wearing socks? It seems like we have to go from sockless shoes like mules or loafers directly to booties. Are there fashionable footwear options that look good when we need to wear socks on very chilly fall days in the Midwest?
Check out my Fall Shoe Trends report. Actually socks are trending this year! I'll definitely be sharing more about footwear and about socks. dressedformyday.com/fall-2023-shoe-trends-for-women-over-50/
Thanks Kay…great ideas…so ,you didn’t mention putting away the white pants and sandals, shoes after Labor Day…maybe we don’t need to anymore but I still do…❤ I also buy some fall colored tees and put away the lighter summery colored tees. Btw…love your hairstyle!
I still wear my white pants and jeans even after Labor Day, but will put up the white shoes. Here it’s still near 100 so if it feels like summer, I wear my summer clothes. 😂
As usual, as soon as the kids go back to school, we get a heatwave! Not going to be fall clothing weather for at least 2-3 weeks (but we could have worn it during July!). Did you buy any clothing in London?I have been looking at fall clothes in my local stores and have to say nothing is calling my name this year so far - a lot of styles we have seen before, but just in different colors, none of which appeal to me. Love trench coats - but there are so few occasions to wear one in our climate - either too hot or too cold. Your trench is nice - like the short length, and I like the fact is has epaulettes and storm flaps. Is yours waterproof? I have a classic Burberry from about 30 years ago and I'm thinking of having the tailor shorten it to update it.
Hi Kay- I am a plus size, 62 years old. Any suggestions you have for us curvy women would be great! Also plus size versions of your suggestions I enjoy your videos!
Cropped pants are already going out of style. Banana Republic and J Crew have almost no wide-leg cropped pants for fall. Slim ankle pants are being offered in good numbers, however.
Great video. I was interested in the kohls skirt but couldn’t find the link with the other denim skirts. Did I miss it? I was just walking my dog this morning and enjoying the crisp morning air!

I liked all you showed today. Basically how I usually dress when I am not in my workout clothes!
Amen, wholeheartedly! But, as some commenters have stated, the fall fashion is great, and definitely my favorite fashion season! Love your videos, Kay!
I always like essentials videos, and Kay's videos are always spot on. Not too trendy, but still of the moment. Keep up the great work!

Kay, glad you had a fun time in London. We are going back to the office more days each week. Would enjoy more content on work fashion.

Wonderful video Kay! I love all the green that’s so popular right now…I wish you would do a video on how to style green!!🫶

Thank you!😊
Here in Texas it wont be fall until almost winter - LOL! Lots of good suggestions though. 😊
Thanks for watching.
Many of these are good recommendations but the cargo pants and utility pants add volume. Those pockets on the thighs just aren't flattering.
I carry weight in my thighs so I understand
I love cargo pants for exactly that reason! Also, I'd rather use then for my keys than carry a purse.
They are flattering on me!
there's nothing wrong with volume, don't wear them if you don't like them.
I love cargo pants…..great when you can find some that are well made.

In the future, can you can help us with some fall footwear that looks good when wearing socks? It seems like we have to go from sockless shoes like mules or loafers directly to booties. Are there fashionable footwear options that look good when we need to wear socks on very chilly fall days in the Midwest?
Check out my Fall Shoe Trends report. Actually socks are trending this year! I'll definitely be sharing more about footwear and about socks. dressedformyday.com/fall-2023-shoe-trends-for-women-over-50/
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms Thank you!
Terrific video -- thanks, Kay!
No, those rules are gone. But I do like to put away my linen and white pants. But that's purely a personal preference. Thanks so much for watching!
Great tips for fall dressing.
Thanks!😊
Great video! I hope you had a great trip to London. Did you get your hair cut? It looks great!
Hi Kay- I am a plus size, 62 years old. Any suggestions you have for us curvy women would be great! Also plus size versions of your suggestions
I enjoy your videos!
Thanks for letting me know, Cindie. I do what I can to find size options. I'll keep working at it!
I do have a pair of cropped jeans and some cropped pants, but I always believe a pair of full length pants make a woman look longer and leaner.
Cropped pants are already going out of style. Banana Republic and J Crew have almost no wide-leg cropped pants for fall. Slim ankle pants are being offered in good numbers, however.
Love this one
Thank you.
Thank you!!!
Great video. I was interested in the kohls skirt but couldn’t find the link with the other denim skirts. Did I miss it? I was just walking my dog this morning and enjoying the crisp morning air!
Here you go: shopstyle.it/l/b0G16 Sorry about that!
