My favorite thing about MKX is how his MK9 moveset was named "balanced," despite it being absolutely busted in MK9. I like to think this was intentional lmao
Hey Ketchup and Mustard, just wanted to thank you for the amount of love and care you put into this page ❤ One of the best, if not the best, MK pages out there. I actually make time in my day to watch your contents, no matter how short or long they are. Please keep this up.
I'm in the middle of my finals - took a 5 minute break just to answer a few messages. Went to RUclips just to see if there is anything I'll watch after I'm done with studying, but I wouldn't be able to focus after seeing Ketchup and Mustard dropped a new competitive history. I really hope you keep this good work up for a long time, and I hope you do Kabal in the near future, with all his broken appearances.
I'm convinced one of the producer's child made this idea bcs the child thought it'd be "cool to have a blind telekinetic samurai on MK" And the parent ran away with the idea
Possessed Kenshi is sooo fun. Reminds me of Chizuru from the KoF series, in that you never know if they're gonna attack with a projection/hologram or teleport themselves. Grats on the vid, K&M!
The moment I realized you weren't gonna mention Tai Chi s3 and 2223 in Deadly Alliance, I was quite disappointed. MKDA Tai Chi is INCREDIBLY SAFE if you use s3 often. 2223 is by far his best string, because it can confirm into 54% or more on hit, or become completely safe + pushback.
There's always something fun about the fighting game characters who have a physical trait what most would call a handicap that they overcome to become skilled fighters. In Kenshi's case, his design and overall story made him very distinct and memorable in comparison to the other 3D era characters. You'd certainly be able to have someone who knows nothing about MK understand what Kenshi is all about just by looking at him.
I'm just glad to hear that you enjoy working on this series! Your passion shines through in its quality; I'm always very happy to see a new one show up. Take care of yourself and good luck with future videos!
It is great to see this astounding character in the 'Competitive History' series. I am intrigued as to who may be next. Perhaps Kitana, Jade or Sindel for another Edenian? Or maybe some other character... still, thank you for another entry, and may you both be well.
You ever just randomly open RUclips, see a thumbnail, shout "yeeees" in your best M.Bison impression, then tap on your phone screen with the force of a thousand black holes? Because I just did.
Really nice surprise! One of the only fighting games I played competitively was mkx. My main was balanced kenshi, such a low tier fighter but so fun to play. No one expected a good kenshi and got plenty of great reactions
I dont even like the mk games, just the lore and characters but your commentary, insight and passion is really interesting and entertaining. really awesome series.
I really adore the content on this channel and both Ketchup & Mustard's passion for MK. Among FGC content this is a very high standard to me, the MK metas and competitive history videos are both super great and I appreciate all the hard work put into everything
Ketchup and Mustard, I adore this series. It's fascinating to me to be able to see how characters' tools and gameplan evolve throughout the series, I wish more content creators would cover Street Fighter in the same way. Seeing high-level tournament footage is both inspiring and quite intimidating as a casual player. As I'm also an identical twin, I wish you guys well from one twin set to another!
Hey, recently found the channel after hearing you on Triple KO ages ago and the videos have been really interesting to listen to as someone who hasn't played much mortal kombat but always appreciated it from afar. If your up for suggestions, I'd be interested to see what the history on Johnny Cage is since he appears so much throughout the series. I've also got so little exposure to the 3D Era of games so seeing all the characters change through those has been really fun too!
My first MK was Deadly Alliance and i loved Kenshi, im not a Zoner player but he’s always was so fun to play and to this day hes always been my 2nd main whenever he shows up
So, just to be clear; mkx Kenshi did not have a reliable wake up option; you could always force his special moves to come out in the opposite direction by just timing a jump in when knock down (which is still possible and even worse since rising karma doesn't have armor anymore. so apart from possessed this continues to be a weakness. This is why his DF4xx has that hit box, I remember this being a topic of contention. It's just a get of me tool; just respect it and you'll be fine.
My favorite little fun fact about Kenshi is that he doesn’t have a defined stance for his Katana which is why it’s just named Katana. It’s a nice little detail since he didn’t have the sword until post blinding and wouldn’t have any formal training with it
Actually Kenshi was already a master swordsman before he got Sento, Shang Tsung (disguised as a harmless old man named Song) knew this and used it against him by flattering him when he said he was a great swordsman who needed a sword worthy of his skill and you know what went down after that.
It can't be overstated how broken Kenshi was in MK9, he legit made some characters unable to play the game, they just can't get near him, and they can't zone him due to his projectile reflect, but he can zone them no problem. Even good characters like Kitana was helpless in that MU... Oh well, still love MK9. Good CH episode as usual. I'm casting my vote for Sub-Zero and Kitana, my favorite male and female characters in MK~
As someone that was alive and old enough to play every mortal kombat when they released (I was 9 when Mortal Kombat first hit in the 90s) I never cared for the "good guy" characters in MK. I always thought they were lame or boring. Kenshi in MKDA was the first time I was able to get behind an originally good guy character, and I have liked him since
For as much as Keanu Reeves says he doesn't want his likeness in an MK game due to how uncomfortable he is about watching himself get mutilated by the series' Fatalities, I do wish he'd portray Kenshi and let the reference go full circle.
Great video. Lots of stuff missing for MKDA, MKD and MKA though. Also one air cancel per combo isn't shown properly in the video. You are guaranteed two 6 hit air strings without any air cancels by using MKA's built in air to ground rules (popups pop up after one 6 hit air string without any air cancels used and you can OTG a ground ender after the 2nd air string without any air cancels, Reiko gets 50% easily with the built in rules without air cancels). You're supposed to add one air cancel to either one of those strings. Since they scale, using it on the first 6 hit string nets you more damage. The rules were also at NEC11 and proven to be just fine the way they always were, shown in countless combo videos, during the MKA days. Whoever you consulted with clearly still has it out for me after 20 years lol. Hit me up sometime, man! Been a long time since i've heard from you.
I absolutely love how Kenshi is Luke Skywalker if he kept the blast shield helmet (he wears in A New Hope while getting base lightsaber training from Obi Wan) on the entire trilogy.
I really liked him in Deadly Alliance, both the console version and handheld, I thought his moveset was very well done and while I never got to play him in future games (mostly because I don't really like them), Kenshi was recently created in Mugen/sprite form in the UMK3 style and he's extremely fun to play as, so I think a character like him has potential to be great regardless of which style of MK we're talking about.
I hope one day we get a competitive history of Kano. Like he is so bad in mk9 but doesn't get talked about at all and I never heard anything else about how good or bad he has been in any game outside of mk1 and perhaps that's true for most of us.
I was really hoping Possessed would have come from his sword being shattered in the story mode, i was kinda disappointed to see it wasn't. Though he still uses that variation when you fight against him in Takeda's flashback, cuz that makes sense i guess.
Was 3D era Mortal Kombat competitive as games like Tekken, KoF or Street Fighter? I don't know, MK has always been my favorite fighting game since MK3, but I never seen it as a competitive fighting game, more like a fun as gruesome one lol
Seeing how much fans accepted Kenshi since his first appearance i can only imagine how they felt after finding his "cameo" in MK11's Krypt
We were pissed 😂
I almost dont want to know (tell me)
@@gottmituns698 You find his remains and the player character takes his blindfold from his corpse and uses it as a gameplay tool
Not like it matters. The krypt is non Canon in mk11.
@@TheCrystalBlood damn lol
My favorite thing about MKX is how his MK9 moveset was named "balanced," despite it being absolutely busted in MK9. I like to think this was intentional lmao
@TA-kb5blThank you Sherlock
Man, you have so much personnality...
congratulations you made the exact same joke he did
It's incredible how Kenshi started as basically an Ermac clone but became a fan favorite and grew into his own style
Babe, wake up! New competitive history video!
Deadass😂
@@traegreene0418 agreed 😂😂

@@2TU74 I did, now I'm coming back for a rewatch.
Back in 2015 I played erron black and shinnok , but after the final patch kenshi stole my heart with possessed
I hope we will get Competitive History of Shang Tsung some day
And Liu kang 🔥🐲
not all that impressive unfortunately :/
& Scorpion! :)
I second that!
Still waiting for that one
I JUST walked into work and this drops. This shift cannot go by fast enough.
I really want Kenshi in the next MK. Love the concept of blind characters.
It's so unique
Oh yeah? You like blind characters? Name all the blind characters in every piece of media
@@naf8787 I like the concept of blind martial art fighters in games. Damn, its that time of the month?
I'm convinced one of the producer's child made this idea bcs the child thought it'd be "cool to have a blind telekinetic samurai on MK"

Well whatdya know...
Possessed Kenshi is sooo fun. Reminds me of Chizuru from the KoF series, in that you never know if they're gonna attack with a projection/hologram or teleport themselves. Grats on the vid, K&M!
I can't believe Kenshi was so good it inspired a mortal kombat character of the same name
Kenshi is my favorite character ever I waited for this video since the first competitive history Video that I watch
I thought Kenshi would have been out last year but I'm glad he is here
The moment I realized you weren't gonna mention Tai Chi s3 and 2223 in Deadly Alliance, I was quite disappointed.
MKDA Tai Chi is INCREDIBLY SAFE if you use s3 often. 2223 is by far his best string, because it can confirm into 54% or more on hit, or become completely safe + pushback.

As someone who doesn't know MK, I don't know what Kenshi is about by just looking at him.
Kenshi is one of my favorite FG characters ever. Just the fact that he was blind but handled so well, and he's such a blast to play, especially in X.
The balanced variation in MKX is like the devs saying,"sorry guys kenshi was broken in mk9 so we have balanced him".
I'm just glad to hear that you enjoy working on this series! Your passion shines through in its quality; I'm always very happy to see a new one show up. Take care of yourself and good luck with future videos!
21:46 Good news everyone.
What a great choice for a video! Kenshi is my favorite of the new characters introduced during the post-2D era of MK games!
Let’s go! Kenshi is my favorite mk character ever! I’ve been waiting for this one and it did not disappoint!

Who else came back here after MK1 gameplay trailer?
I dont even like the mk games, just the lore and characters but your commentary, insight and passion is really interesting and entertaining. really awesome series.
Even back in the MKDA days Kenshi felt like an instant klassic. Thank you for the awesome content!
I actually just watched snow blind and was just watching old mk9 tourneys (both featuring plenty of Kenshi)
A blind samurai using telekinesis? Oh, Kenshi oozes cool - how can you not love him?!
Scorpion: GET OVER HERE
(Pulls Kenshi ancestor spirit)
Scorpion: No, f*ck off
Kenshi is one of my favorite characters but man I felt MKX story mode did him dirty
I really adore the content on this channel and both Ketchup & Mustard's passion for MK. Among FGC content this is a very high standard to me, the MK metas and competitive history videos are both super great and I appreciate all the hard work put into everything

WEEEE ANOTHER COMPETITIVE HISTORY! Been dying to see one for Kitana, hope she’s on the list soon.
Kenshi has always been one of my favorite characters in MK, fun to play and he always has awesome designs lol
Possessed Kenshi is so fun, it's one of the few variations I would love to see evolve into it's own character

14:14 the Pig vs Jade gauntlet being lost in time is a true travesty
I’m so glad you talked quite a bit about Pig, he and Kenshi really are linked in the competitive world of MK!
Kenshi's for sure gotta be one of the best MK characters since the 2D Trilogy. I hope he'll get to comeback again.
I've been waiting for this. Thank you thank you!
Awesome video! Kenshi's been my main since I was a kid, he's such a cool character.

Could we get Shinnok? I really liked his necromancer style and my friends all hated it, so im really curious about how he actually was competitively.

Yess ! The competitive history i waited for the most !
Been waiting for this since the Reptile video!
Thank K&M!
I love how one of the most played spot of all of PNDK videos are near the intro, because of how annoying it sounds people just tend to skip it
FINALLY, THANK YOU KETCHUP AND MUSTARD!!
Kenshi is the coolest mk character
The fact that he has yet to have a playable chapter in any nrs game is criminal
Amazing video as always
Speaking of Pig. My buddies and I still to this day use the term "The Pig of the Hut Special", when going for a long run grab on the opponent.
another great upload; also loved your commentary on the shaolin monks GDQ run
It was a pleasure!
I absolutely love how Kenshi is Luke Skywalker if he kept the blast shield helmet (he wears in A New Hope while getting base lightsaber training from Obi Wan) on the entire trilogy.
I'm so happy he's back for MK1, nice video
Possessed Kenshi sounds awesome, definitely going to try him
Nice, one of my favorite Mortal Kombat characters and one that's always really fun to play; in fact I'd say he's my favorite character after Scorpion.
Kenshi coming back in MK1 is something I'm looking forward to. I semi mained him casually in MKX so this is something I'm looking forward to.
Its so good to see him back in MK1(2023)
finally, I've waited 2500 years for this
i can finally play kenshi mk9
The day has finally come! My favorite character!
Love me some blind Kenshi. Was waiting for this video!
I just realized that Mavado was the precursor to AoT.
Love your content man keep it up.
His infinite 33 works wii it's this real harder hit you in a good content
Kenshi is definitely top three in my favorite characters list. I hope to see Kitana soon.
2:10 Okay, this was the last channel I expected to make a Guilty Gear joke
KENSHI LESGOOOO
I loved Kenshi in MK9 so much, he was so entertaining to play as.
what about him being immune to Sonya's kiss of death because he's blind?
Keep em coming preciate the history content being a young mk fan
Another excellent video for another excellent character!
You can't out Kenshi the Hut
Nice 😆
Snowblind... that's one animation I keep being told to check out.
Kenshi is quite an interesting character, honestly.
OMG this Channel is TBS Arya but MK version instead of Tekken. Much respect for the quality video!
Really enjoy this series K&M, hoping to see Baraka covered at some point
Yes! My favorite mk character finally has his own competitive history
He also gets some of the best intros in MKX. He and Toph Beifong should have a competition on who got the better blind jokes.
Koolest addition in the 3D era. Kenshi was such a dope kharacter in MKD
i love watching kenshi gameplay
Always a pleasure to watch this series. Any plans on doing kabal in the near future?

I always wondered the same thing about the name of Kenshi's "Balanced" Variation. Had to have really been an intentional reference...
YES FINALLY
Just need Kabal now and I'm good
I was really hoping Possessed would have come from his sword being shattered in the story mode, i was kinda disappointed to see it wasn't. Though he still uses that variation when you fight against him in Takeda's flashback, cuz that makes sense i guess.

Going against a good mk9 kenshi was a nightmare being a Kung Lao/Nightwofl player. So darn hard to get in on him.
This is INSANE!
I think Possessed is potentially 3rd best variation behing Crystalline and Dragon's Fire
