What makes Quan-Chi’s leg beat down so iconic is the fact that, much like Shang Tsung, he’s a sorcerer and could do many creative things with his powers but he opts to show others he isn’t afraid of dishing out a good ol’ fashioned beat down-with their own leg at that.
One thing I think could be cool to distinguish the two. Shang Tsung is one with a distinct love of image. While the tournaments he organizes are in gorgeous vistas, his hobby(the Flesh Pits) are disgusting and full of horrid monsters he’s experimenting on. Quan Chi need not be so separate. A Netherrealm demon wouldn’t care about his appearance. If we ever get a game with the Deadly Alliance again, I would love to see them use that as a way to distinguish the two.
@@sonyabladesbooty3890 Massive script, tons of gameplay to record, extensive research for the games im not so sure on, IDK man. shit takes a long time.
@@PNDKM don't listen to him (Sonya's booty lool), I'm pretty sure these videos take a huge amount of time to make not only that but also the script, footage, and deep knowledge of each game to be done in such a expertly way, really appreciate this series man keep it up
I know the fandom loves the arcade cabinets of MK and MK2 but the MK4 cabinet holds a special place in my heart for Quan's portrait on the side . Loved the bony hands on his Warlock variation.
I audibly gasped when this popped up in my feed. I’ll never forget seeing Quan’s face on the side of that old arcade cabinet as a kid. Been playing ever since. ‘Till they decapitated him, ig.
19:52 This is mind boggling that a tournament event would not make sure that part of the setup was ensuring that every console would have all the characters ready to go, instead of basically going "Oh you're a tournament level player? Go speed run the story mode to unlock your main."
You know it’s gonna be a good day when Competitive History is uploaded. Thanks for this series and I’m excited for either Scorpion or Jax to make it in one of these. Cheers 👌🏿
As someone who only really plays fighting games against the AI or friends and not competitively I really feel like I could get to grips with the deeper mechanics purely because of these videos. You do a great job of giving a broad description that’s really simple for someone like me to be able to understand the essentials without it seeming too daunting. Also I think more lore type videos from this channel would be great purely because of the passion you both have for the series.
Another excellent breakdown, it's just so fascinating to see the history of all of these characters in the competitive side of MK games. As for Quan Chi, man he was super strong in MKX indeed, I was pretty likely that I didn't run into many Quan players online LOL
I’ve always loved how Quan Chi is not only an extremely powerful sorcerer, but is also a simple, yet brutal and effective melee fighter. It’s like he trained combat just enough to know how to cause his opponents a great deal of pain even without his magic
despite his godawful fatality in deadly alliance, i'd say its still his most memorable appearance, i felt like he really took shao kahns place as the big bad guy, something they seem to confirm when he defeats shang tsung in deceptions intro. that and his fighting styles and dual swords were so distinct
What we’ve gathered so far: Mk4: Quan Chi is evil by being so low-tier MkDA: Quan Chi has Evil broadswords MkA: Quan Chi EVIL-LY steals your weapons Mk9: Quan Chi punishes his mains at tournaments Mk10: Quan Chi has 3 different flavors of EVIL! Conclusion: Quan Chi is EVVVVVIIIIIILLLLLLL!!!!! Nice vid btw!
Rich homie Quan, sending everyone to the skeleton realm with glee. I certainly remember him from the brief time I was able to play MK4, mainly the skydrop and that fatality (you know the one), and Kai was also memorable for that silly handstand thing. So at least the low tiers were memorable. Funny to think that the only reason you've not featured MKvDC in this series is that none of the characters you've covered were in it...
That's why when discussing which games which characters have been in (usually arguing why they should come back or sit out a game) I pretty much skip over it. It's a crossover game so naturally, it's gonna mostly consist of mainstays of the franchise that have been in most games, which for obvious reasons these guys are holding off on
Oddly enough one of my favorite characters to play as, I remember in mk9 after I beat the story mode I unlocked Quan and started playing him thinking he was going to be some top tier only to find out he was pretty garbage although rune trap was my favorite move to use with him.
Whether it's intentional or not, I love how Quan Chi almost always ends up as this martially below-average fighter who got scummy tricks; whether it's stealing the opponent's weapon, or hitting the opponent with unblockable/hard to blockable loops, or making people eat a ton of safe chip damage
Ive been playing MK Armageddon since the day the game came out and I never knew about the weapon steal move. I couldnt believe there was something about this game I didn't know about. I guess I just never played Quan Chi in this game as even the Broadsword combos don't seem that familiar. But I don't even think this special move was ever used against me. I feel like going and popping in MKA into the good old PS2.
Quan Chi's actor in Mythologies Sub Zero (who was the same dude who played Kano in the original trilogy) was the highlight of the live action cutscenes to me Those sexy eyebrows 😏😆 Also, he likes to make fun of Sub Zero calling him ninja.
In the time in my dorm room without strong internet, I played MK9 on my 360 and some mkx offline on my computer. Quan chi has become one of my favorite characters in all of mortal kombat, and it is terrible that I have to cook with bottom one.
These videos are so good, there’s not much filler and they’re so comprehensive. Please do Kitana next! She would cover lesser known games like Unchained, MK Tournament Edition and even your least favourite, MK vs DCU!
MK4 has a special place in my heart because that's the one I played the most as a kid because I might have been way too young for the first 3 (though not by much). So it's awesome to see a character from that generation getting this much love.
just want you to know i enjoy these history videos on characters through out the mk games. It has to be a lot of work and time to go through all of the games and find out every detail then find people from the community and what they thought of the characters etc. Great job man, keep up the great work
My favourite competitive appearance of Quan Chi was in Defenders of the Realm where his special moves were making weird shouting noises and making a snake turn into his belt.
Loving this series as always Ketchup…missing some MK Meta though…wonder what game is next there. Appreciate the videos as always, especially since you are very busy these days.
Awesome content! Was wondering if you thought about including a pro player's thoughts and/or input when making a character specific breakdown, if they mained them. Either way great stuff dude!
I would love to see a competitive history video for either baraka or Jonny cage two characters that are in my top 3 favorite mk characters alone with reptile
I just finished watching Scorpion's Revenge, so this should be interesting. I'm still waiting for Scorpion's competitve history. I appreciate all the effort you put into these!
I like Quan Chi because he has one of the most brutal fatalities I’ve ever seen. I can’t remember which game it’s from, but it’s the one where he mind controls his opponent and forces them to slowly walk towards a hovering sword and impale themselves in the skull. It’s not even that gory, but just the way it’s animated is so unsettling; and the idea of basically forcing someone to kill themselves is really dark and brutal. I’ll remember that fatality for the rest of my days.
I have literally only seen one player block the summoner hard-to-blockable and that was Sonicfox (forgot which tournament). MKX was my fave competitively to watch when it was broken
I don’t watch or play competitive, so I’m definitely not your intended audience. That said, this was an extremely well done comprehensive look on how a character’s move set evolved over the course of a series.
I picked up summoner 2 weeks before the trance nerf, but that didn't bother me as much as the b2 nerf, that hurt him so bad. Though the f142 buff was nice

Also the fact that the game could bug in fatality and Quan Chi would continue to beat you with your own leg tirelessly
@@dreadalex, I didn’t know about that! That’s crazy.

Fun fact: Quan Chi's leg beatdown fatality is Ed Boon's favorite fatality
And his Fatality in Deadly Alliance is Ed's least favorite.

Sorcerer Quan was some of the most fun I've ever had in a fighting game. You could just feel your opponent get salty when you drain that meter.
corner trapping with armor portal ruled
@@flowrepins6663 that too for sure. I loved to drain meter, then armor trap. Such a fun character.

I just call him "Crunchy"

Quan chi is famous in mk4 for his appearance on the arcade cabinet itself! Surprised that wasn't touched on
