After watching this video.. I am totally satisfied by purchasing the XM4s.. They looks so clean and well designed.. Not glued everywhere as in the apple air buds or other brands. Actually.. To be disassembled with out scratch or crushing any thing.. That is a huge bonus. 👌🏻❤️
Completely misleading. After spending the last 2 hours trying to get the earbuds open, I have given up. No amount of heat or prying does anything whatsoever. All I've managed to achieve is to scratch the things up completely. Next step is just melting through the body with soldering iron at this point. These things, like every other Bluetooth earbud are meant for a landfill.

I spent a couple of hours looking into this, and unfortunately you can't get the Z55 anywhere, but I found out the Varta 1254 is the same size, so I assume it can be used as a replacement battery, the only difference is the voltage is slightly less, but its the same battery that was used in the XM3's so should be fine.

I've seen teardown videos of some other earbud brands where they used so much glue that the whole thing had to be ripped into pieces in order to be opened. Props to sony for using screws instead of glue, the earbuds seem totally repairable. Also I've seen this trend where some brands are incorporating multiple drivers (4-5) into the earbuds in order to better separate frequencies and for a clearer sound, while Sony's top end earbuds just uses one. So I guess adding multiple drivers is a bit of a gimmick?
This is an excellent teardown. It helps to understand why these command a premium compared to the Soundcore products. I'd love to see a tear down of the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pros to compare.

Like someone else has said, you can use the xm3’s battery, but its voltage is just a bit less than xm4’s battery which is unfortunate really. I think after a year or two suppliers will have the xm4’s battery in stock
Excellent tear down. May I suggest more detail on the kind of tools used to open the buds. Would be most helpful. Also, the availability to buy the battery, Z55H. The online version of this battery doesn't exist. Someone mentioned the Verta CP1254 A3 as a replacement. Do you know if this works, as it is voltage is not 3.85, but only 3.7 something. Sure wish we could track down a Z55H somewhere on this planet. 4/13/22
Sony engineers are so impressive by designing a top of the line pair of ANC headphones, also had user repair-ability/DIY in mind. I just replaced the right battery on my XM4 and down the road now I know how to replace the battery on the charging case. These headphones can last a really long time!

Been trying to separate my right earbud to get to the battery, but that thing is sealed tight! Tried heating and still wouldn't budge. Not sure what you guys did to get into yours.
@@Aviaxy Unfortunately, no luck yet. I feel like I'd damage the shell if I tried using pliers on the top and bottom at the same time. Once it's open, it looks easy as heck.
@@titantim I actually just had some luck opening it. After a little more heating, I used a very fine and fresh razor blade and gently inserted it in the crevice and wiggled it slightly back and forth and kept rotating and repeating and it eventually came apart with ease and no damage to the shell on my part. After that it was fairly easy to swap the batteries. Best of luck to you! Hope I helped a little bit.

After watching this video, i did the teardown myself and notice that there is no glue at all. so as long as you have something thin and strong enough to pry it open, maybe you don't even have to heat it. As for the battery, i really hope that they are available in the market because it's impossible to find them. Hopefully Varta 3.7V battery can be the alternative.

my right side battery died just recently even though I hardly ever used them. but I replaced it but ripped off a little locking mechanism for a ribbon but it still works so far and its nice to listen to them again and it doesnt cut off automatically after about 30 minutes because the battery was so low in the right ear bud, but I also bought a back up ear buds made by anker P3i for 34 bucks off amazon and other than the app they both seem to have the same audio quality, but the sony app is superior you have more options like the equalizer and increasing BASS and the ear buds cushions are better quality and more comfortable

I got here when looking for to how the buds are made in the inside, worried about its resilience to fall damage, because I accidentally dropped mine (not once, not twice, sht...) and it started bothering me if something could be dislodged inside. The buds are working just fine, with no apparently damage, seems just as new, however as I said, I'm getting worried and I'll be more careful. Do you think something could get out of its place inside the buds if dropped? My drops were always like 1 meter high, on mid/hard floors.
6:16 i accidentally tore the ribbon cable shown at 6:16 while replacing the battery in my left bud. Do you think its feasible to replace this whole piece with one from a for parts unit? It doesnt seem like thr cable itself is repairable. Also, what does this ribbon cable do? It seems like my headphones still work but i dont think my ANC is working. From what I'm hearing it sounds like you're saying this module is the speaker? My sound still works and I'm able to talk on phone as well. Am I correct in understanding that the module in your hand at 6:16 is the speaker?
How would you go on glueing them back the buds together? Mine felt from 6 stories and works perfeect but i'm not sure onhow yo glue them back together :(
I just replaced the battery in my right unit and after opening with heat a a spudger I was able to reseal the halves together with a little bit of IPA 99.9%, this sofend the existing glue so it re-bonded after using some pegs to keep both halves together for 30min. Hope this helps.

Sony, Please fix the issue via Firmware or Recall this product with a properly functioning replacement. Warranty or not, my headphones were working perfectly fine prior to updating to firmware 1.4.2. If you(Sony) don't recall the product at least fix the firmware so I know I'm able to replace the battery without the headphones destroying the replacement battery.

Six weeks and two software updates later and all the bugs that early reviewers mentioned are gone. The XM4's are my favourite headphones/buds to use while on the go and at home.

Not sure if you know but there is an issue in most of these units where a metal echo noise comes after you bite your teeth. It comes in ANC/Ambient mode and turning them off makes the sound go away (not really 100% but it’s like 1% of what it used to be). People suspect there is a sling that causes this. Did you happen to notice anything similar?

Hi! I need some help :c I recently get the wf-1000xm4 but i realize something weird about the case... Im suspecting that I have a failed one. When i open the case, it fully open with a click that suppouse to block to prevent accidental close, and that works but... it should stay completely immobile? Because mine, when is blocked inthat clicky section continues moving, its just a little bit, but is weird, i think the porpouse of that clicky section is to completely block te lid. It shake a little bit or leans following the movement of the case. When the case is close it doesnt stay perfectly immobil, it doesnt open but it moves, is that normal?

Yeah, you just need to heat and separate it.

@@arie1293 in the website, it appears to be rubber attaching the two parts of the earbud rather than adhesive.

This right here. Any luck? I heated it for minutes upon minutes using tweezers to try and pry it apart but it doesn't budge.

I dont think so, the parts are so small that they dont have much force at the impact to get damage :)

Hi! I need some help :c I recently get the wf-1000xm4 but i realize something weird about the case... Im suspecting that I have a failed one. When i open the case, it fully open with a click that suppouse to block to prevent accidental close, and that works but... it should stay completely immobile? Because mine, when is blocked inthat clicky section continues moving, its just a little bit, but is weird, i think the porpouse of that clicky section is to completely block te lid. It shake a little bit or leans following the movement of the case. When the case is close it doesnt stay perfectly immobil, it doesnt open but it moves, is that normal?
It's pretty normal, cause there're certain tolerance when producing it.
anyone knows where to purchase the wf1000xm4 charging case motherboard? I accidentally "blow up" my charging port (not physically damaged)
