I've been around this kind of thing for a very long time and he is still one of the best I have ever seen. I never get tired of listening to or watching Kentaro work.
Echoing all the others - AMAZING. Also wanted to comment on what an amazing DJ stage that was. The camera work and projections really gave the crowd an eye-full! Thanks to Kentaro for an amazing routine!
I'll never get tired of ths set. They way he is making differennt beat patterns with loops and making builds up, breaks and breakdowns in various styles of music is awesome.
yes this is his winnin set and is probably one of the greatest DMC sets ever... but the year B4 that when he tied 4 3rd place was when i was blown away by his talent. His end routine "PEACE" in 2001 had everyone goin nutz, the announcers dj noize was even like "holy shit." thats when i was anxious 2 c him return in 02 and dominate the competition!!!
Mwuahahah !! One of the best sets ever conceived. In fact its in my top 3 of all time. I remember people criticising it for its musical flavour when he first done it, but i thought it was a step ahead for turntablism. Mostly because it was more musical in composition rather than technical. But Kentaro.. We salute you !
@DJJohndice yes, it's simple...put the headphones into the micro input and you can speak from the headphones (only on the right or only on the left, i don't remember now) (sorry 4 my english, i'm italian)
respect to pioneers like grandwizard theodore, kool herc, grandmixer dxt, q bert, a trak, craze, etc... but kentaro is takin turntablism 2 a whole other level and keepin FRESH!!!
If the Devil came down to the DMC Championship. With his best devilish tunes, fire coming out of those needles, and all........... He would loose to Kentaro.
its something that he says all the time in that run i heard it translates into "no walls between music. Peace" (the "peace" is already in english) thats kinda like his signature, he tends to put somethin like that somewhere
@empire562 If you mean the routine he did, It's his 2002 DMC winning routine. If you meanthe setup, it's two technics 1210 M3D's and a SH-EX1200k mixer. He's using Ortofon Scratch cartridges.
@DJJohndice Can be done. Plug headphones into the mic input and crank the gain. When i was real young i used a shitty set of headphones to mic a kick drum. It worked... didn't sound superb but hell made my first demos
Im Not listening that stuff, im not that kind , but thats is F**kin AWASOME!! All the performance .... doeos the part in which he is doin some crazy stuff with the saxo , has the id or smth ? i mean the "saxo" track ... ?
This is beautiful DJ KENTARO IS THE BEST!! where can i get the sample he used in the beginning!!! The subject we're going to be talking about today is...style!! haha i need it!!
@DJJohndice I think it's possible, since you talk more loud to capture your voice. The physics of headphones and microphones are very similiar. The same diaphragm that can turn electrical signals to sound (earphones) can often turn sound into electrical signals (microphone).
I've been around this kind of thing for a very long time and he is still one of the best I have ever seen. I never get tired of listening to or watching Kentaro work.
Legit 15 years later!... Same
Echoing all the others - AMAZING.

Thanks to Kentaro for an amazing routine!
he is my favorite DJ of all time!
I think so your favorite.
Unveliable, I've never seen nothing else before, technic, musical taste, ...
I'll never get tired of ths set. They way he is making differennt beat patterns with loops and making builds up, breaks and breakdowns in various styles of music is awesome.
I danced so much at the Kentaro gig in london, jumping around like a nutter and so was Kentaro. AWESOME!
