I am so happy to see you covered Christine's case... that is one that has always been close to my heart.. my grandfather was one of the last people reported to see her alive... I have known this case my whole life growing up in Georgina, 10 mins from the Jessop home... she is buried 5 rows ahead of my grandparents... Exactly! I said the same thing! Like she’s only 9!! I can’t stand when children go missing and the reason being is because the parents intentionally left them alone for whatever reason. Parents need to be questioned by police in these situations. These disappearances are definitely avoidable! I feel sad for the little girl.
Different times I was walking to and from school with my friends and eating lunch at home by myself when I was 6 in the early 80's. Believe it or not it was normal back then

That is what made this so scary,everyone knew everyone and Christine disappeared off the main corner of a close nit town and nobody seen a thing. I AM a parent, and I agree. My son will be 13 next month. I only leave him for very short periods, and only occasionally, at this point. And I STILL feel nervous leaving him, especially at night. **BUT** This happened in 1984. Times were different then. Hindsight is always 20/20. I'm sure Christine's mother will always regret leaving her little girl-how could she not?? But unfortunately, nothing anyone does or says now, can change what happened. And victim-shaming/victim-blaming is never cool. That family has been devastated enough. Let's all just pray/hope that her family has found some closure, and some peace. RIP Christine. Sleep peacefully, sweet little Angel.

A 16 year old doesn't just "die from natural causes" during camping unless something went horribly wrong or they had a chronic health condition. Either way, emergency services should be contacted immediately... That was so much negligence. :(

I think by, 'natural causes', they could have meant hypothermia or exposure. Still doesn't really explain why they didn't call emergency services or send someone back to town.
Could have been an aneurysm. When I was about 18, a former classmate's younger brother (14-15) went camping with friends. He died very suddenly in their tent, no previous knownedocal conditions or anything 😔

As August 24th, 2021, Glen McCurley changed his plea to guilty and was sentenced to life in prison. Rodney (the boyfriend) stated he still feels guilt for not being able to save her, feeling as though he let her father down. Glad to see Glen will live his old ages in prison…
McCurley was a suspect during the initial investigation. The girl's boyfriend Rodney had a good look at him during the incident and gave the police a clear description (that's what the video said). So why didn't the police ask Rodney if McCurley was the guy?
My mom was friends with Christine when they were kids, when she told me about her case a few months ago it broke my heart to see that not many people were covering her case, it made me happy when this video came up in my feed.

There was a case here in the UK two school girls were murdered and the killer helped with the search when they were thought to be missing he even spoke to the national news crew in fact it was that that got him caught because the interview thought his body language was off he turned out to work at the school his wife was the girl's teacher she was also involved it's called the Soham murders if you want to look up the case very sad and one of uks most horrible crimes

I knew Fawn Cox in real life. She was a co-worker at Worlds of Fun. The day after her murder we were all like "Where's Fawn?" She was never late for work and never called off. I found out the day after that what had happened. The costuming area was eerily quiet that day. I am glad the family finally got the answers they looked for so long and so relentlessly.

This is why I lock my doors, even when I'm just getting something from the car. I once was sitting in my car while on break at my work, and someone mistook my car for the one they'd come in and got into my backseat before realizing it was the wrong car. It hit me that anyone could just jump in and next time it won't be an honest mistake so now the doors are locked. Always.
ive always locked my doors because of things like this. i know back in the day people wouldn't lock their cars or homes because it was a slightly friendlier time, people used to live in culdesacks and everyone in those culdesacks become friends, almost family, so they leave their doors unlocked because of it. but i always lock my car doors lol, im afraid ill fall out onto the highway so i think ill be locking it if im just sitting in there.
I accidentally got into the wrong car in a supermarket parking lot once because it was unlocked, same make and model and color as my car. I got as far as attempting to put the key in the ignition and realized the interior was way too clean to be my car! I got out so quick and felt really embarrassed and hopes nobody saw me make that huge mistake.
Here's the problem with RUclips: forcing people to avoid the use of the word "rape", it becomes reported as nothing more than an assault to YT viewers when, in fact, rape is a great deal more horrendous and causes lifelong damage to the survivor, _if_ they survive. Assault, by definition respective of law, is any form of attack on a living thing, be it human or otherwise. In the cases of attack on inanimate objects, it is stated as being defacement, vandalism or destruction. If you angrily cuss someone out, demean them or simply scream at them in anger, by law, it is an assault. Battery is causing bodily harm or injury and is almost always combined with assault. Rape, or the watered-down version "sexual assault" which includes "molestation", is far more egregious. It isn't a joke, it isn't simply an assault, it is a horrific and villainous act of violation of another for the point of exerting absolute dominance over another in the most brutal and devastating manner imaginable. RUclips, in their silent demand to "soften" rape and murder by those direct terms is, essentially, denying the truth and reality of what it is and the horror of such acts. People who demand that YT make such in turn demands are the very same people who deny their involvement, passively or actively, in the continued diminutive percentage of rape survivors reporting and following through with formal charges against their rapist. _That_ is more than mere censorship, _that_ is a denial of the problem and only serves to diminish the justice that needs be served sooner than later. It follows these two statements made by others but wholly relevant to what I'm stating: silence is death; all it takes for evil to triumph is for good [people] to do nothing. For those who are wont to look at this comment and state "TL;DR", life and reality don't give a damn about your inability to have an attention span longer than a gnat's fart. @Jennifer Collins You're very welcome. My job is as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence, rape and sex trafficking. I am also a survivor of domestic violence and rape. I keep finding social media formats, which includes RUclips, to downplay direct language regarding and direct conversation of these topics. It's also clear that companies that advertise on social media don't like direct speech, specific and unambiguous language or discussion of topics which are very real to people and which need to be addressed. I'm not clear why they want that, I'm just clear that we don't need to live in the shadows of obfuscation any longer.
As a guy who had been sexually abused when I was a kid, it also felt that the word 'assault' was being thrown around too casually; it made me question the degree to which I still feel, live with this pain. It made me feel like as if I had dramaticized the whole 'incident', and whether it had all been in my head, or if I had been inadvertently hurting myself all this time (nearly 2 decades) instead of an actual wound which had happened. I felt guilty for the pain, if this makes any sense. Thanks for bringing this up.
@@stranger2two I hope you are getting help in dealing with that past. I found that for me, nothing I could do on my own ever really addressed it. It's up to you how you want to deal with it but everything you're saying is exactly how I felt and occasionally still feel when things are going poorly. I am immeasurably grateful for my therapist. She's helped me a lot and continues to. We are not alone and there is help.

It's amazing that things like skin cells under the nails and semen where collected and kept as evidence so many years before even the idea of DNA sequencing was even thought of! Just goes to show never give up hope.
I was thinking the same thing. Like what gave them the idea that its useful evidence? Im guessing the same way how brains on a wall is evidence to see where the gun was shot or the use of collecting animal hair as evidence to see where they could be. The skin cells are most likely kept because it shows that she was fighting. Or maybe they believe the future can use it because you can grow cells and see them under a microscope? Do they even know that you can grow them? Wonder what other things could be used as evidence that hasn't been discovered yet.
DNA sequencing was thought of and had been developed from the 1950s or so. I think the idea of it being a major tool in police investigations was well assumed for the future. We just had to invent faster, more reliable, and cheaper methods.

the first time DNA evidence was used to convict a killer (in the US) was in 1987. DNA ‘fingerprinting’ has been around for a bit before then but was never used for the application of perpetrator identification. a lot of people don’t realize that the type of dna analysis that is used for forensic cases is very different than dna analysis used for other purposes.

The fact that you had to censor a word that shouldn't have to be censored says a lot about RUclips these days. I understand that it's a "trigger" for some people but this is about cold cases and they chose to watch it knowing that. Cold cases and crime in general can be "triggering." That much is obvious.

It always boggles me in such cases that they keep emphasising that they don’t know the reason the criminal committed his crime when they actually kidnapped, sexually assaulted and killed a child. It’s not rocket science really. They r just sick and twisted people who have pleasure in committing such crimes. That’s enough reason by itself.

It's obvious why he did it... the only question is whether he targeted her specifically because she was a child, or if he was just looking for someone vulnerable and weak. But his motive? I'm confused about Carla's case. If her boyfriend Rodney had seen and was able to give a full description of the man who kidnapped her, why wasn't he just brought in to identify McCurley when he was first suspected? Why didn't they just do a lineup and have him identify the guy?
because he didn't gave a full description. only details, most of cloths related, you need to describe the person's face with accuracy for this kind of thing, a lot of people have those kind of descriptions, white man, tall, blue eyes, white hair...

Late response but in another video on this case it's stated that Rodney didn't really get a good look at him, McCurley was standing close to the car so his upper body was hidden above the roofline of the car. He didn't get a very good look at him and before he passed out all he saw was Carla being taken away and the back of McCurley. McCurley also didn't fire the gun, it misfired three times before he ultimately pistol whipped Rodney and that's when the magazine fell out and onto the ground, Carla also didn't fall out of the car but was hanging down from the seat with her head near the ground. Not sure how these details got messed up as I'm pretty sure it was another EWU video i watched that went more in depth on the case
The first case proves what I've always thought about cops. They look for information that supports what they think or what they want to have happened and to hell with what proves actually happened.

My step-father was a homicide detective for 17 years. He told me that's exactly what they do, that they KNOW the "scum" (people they arrest) are guilty and will do whatever it takes to make sure they're convicted, even if that means lying or tampering with evidence.

I grew up in Mississauga and was in my early teens when this case was big news for a long time given the age of the victim and then the botching of the case by the police department.I have never forgot that case,and I’m glad the killer was finally found.Her parents can finally know the who behind their child’s death.

I remember when I was younger, my parents put me in Girl Scouts in hopes that I'd "become girlier". The Troop Leader never ever wanted to take the troop camping in the woods or anything, because of Peggy's case, despite us living in a different area entirely. I didn't know the details of her tragedy back then, but it puts a lot of how she handled things into perspective. When we did "go camping" it was always in either the Troop Leader's backyard or in the backyard of one of the girls. My troopmates and I would never ever be allowed to go somewhere alone. On field trips, we had to stick to the Buddy System. If we did a night hike, we were supposed to hold hands with our buddies. I was a little shit that would fuck off and do what I wanted and I'd worry the Troop Leader sick, and I feel fucking awful for it, especially now. Poor Peggy, I hope she's resting easy now, and that her family is doing well.
I wish there were more people like the last person, only in the sense that they had remorse for what they had done and wished to offer what little peace a confession of such a crime can bring.
A lot of these cases are cold because police either neglected to take the case seriously in the most important time or neglected it all together. Either way it was the polices' incompetence that let these killers get away.
I’m so grateful for DNA technology to help solve these mystery cases and expose the murderers.🤗 Too bad many are dead before justice for the victims could be served.😤
@@forlanzsake it has to do with any prison, it is not a comfy life and they rarely get meds in prison unless they are in the spotlight or have connected friends or relatives.
My grandfather was murdered back in 2003 and the case has been cold for years. I fear that the person who took him from me and my family is dead and gone and got away with it. 😞
People confess to crimes for many reasons obviously because they have done it being one, pressure from cops, low intelligence. It has happened many times its nothing to do with being insane. Actually that is an answer of low intellect.

@@christurner87 I think it was no accident. In an interview with the family back then, he didn't make the impression of a child who lost their younger sibling. Much too composed and not sad at all. He was retelling his point of view like a report. And so not to lose both children, the parents rather covered it up.

I REMEMBER THIS GS CASE! We talked about this and we always don't allow girls to be in a tent alone. This was s scary story, I was a GS between 1986 to 1991. I am glad the case was solved!
We told our daughter to never open the door when she´s alone, doesn´t matter who´s there, not even for neighbours or police. When we moved to our house, first thing our neighbour told us was that he would babysit for us if we wanted and had no one to look after the kids. That was maybe a week after we moved here. Yes this could be a kind gesture, but this rang every alarm bell with me. I would never make such an offer to people that I barely even know, to this day I´m very cautious of him and I told our kids as well. It´s kind of hard to raise your kids not to distrust anyone, but I´ll sure better be safe than sorry...
As someone who was left with people that abused (physical, verbal and sexual) me while my parents were away, I applaud you for trusting your instincts and protecting your child. My parents trusted the people who looked after me and did all that, to the point where even baby me (age 5 or 6) did not have the guts to call them out. I’m glad you protected your daughter from something like that (yes, it’s not 100% certain he would’ve done that but it’s not unheard of either).
Sometimes the police torture makes you confess. They put so much pressure on you that you have a mental breakdown. That, and they drill you hard enough until you start thinking that you might have done it. It's using psychology to get confessions. Edit: Also to mention: people confess to gain notoriety. A lot of serial killers do that. They want their name to be known. It's a bit of an arrogance thing. Attention seekers.
Who the hell doesn’t call the authorities right away after finding an otherwise healthy teenager dead? Not only that, but to CLEAN UP the area around her! It’s amazing that there are actually people THAT stupid walking around on this planet. I’m surprised they’re able to put on their pants without help. I mean ffs. I’m sure her parents were beyond devastated when they found out that the adults they trusted to look after their daughter on that camping trip, just left her body in her sleeping bag for EIGHT HOURS before contacting authorities, all the while just cleaning up the camp site, destroying valuable evidence. My aunt was murdered and never found right when I was born 38 years ago. I’ve been able to get some info from people that was around then and one women told me if I wanted to know what happen to come talk to her. I never got the chance. But I do now it was drug related and her and her friend knew to much about something and they both got killed.
The last time I went parking, there was some noise near the car. My date actually got out and went in search of the source. He picked up a branch for a weapon. We will never know what made the noise.
I remember hearing about Christine Jessup when she went missing and I'm not even from Canada... I was only 10 years old at the time... I'm glad they finally know who killed her after all these years. I have known this case my whole life growing up in Georgina, 10 mins from the Jessop home... she is buried 5 rows ahead of my grandparents... Exactly! I said the same thing! Like she’s only 9!! I can’t stand when children go missing and the reason being is because the parents intentionally left them alone for whatever reason. Parents need to be questioned by police in these situations. These disappearances are definitely avoidable! I feel sad for the little girl.

I AM a parent, and I agree. My son will be 13 next month. I only leave him for very short periods, and only occasionally, at this point. And I STILL feel nervous leaving him, especially at night.

This happened in 1984. Times were different then. Hindsight is always 20/20. I'm sure Christine's mother will always regret leaving her little girl-how could she not?? But unfortunately, nothing anyone does or says now, can change what happened. And victim-shaming/victim-blaming is never cool. That family has been devastated enough. Let's all just pray/hope that her family has found some closure, and some peace.

A 16 year old doesn't just "die from natural causes" during camping unless something went horribly wrong or they had a chronic health condition. Either way, emergency services should be contacted immediately... That was so much negligence. :(

Could have been an aneurysm. When I was about 18, a former classmate's younger brother (14-15) went camping with friends. He died very suddenly in their tent, no previous knownedocal conditions or anything 😔

McCurley was a suspect during the initial investigation. The girl's boyfriend Rodney had a good look at him during the incident and gave the police a clear description (that's what the video said). So why didn't the police ask Rodney if McCurley was the guy?
My mom was friends with Christine when they were kids, when she told me about her case a few months ago it broke my heart to see that not many people were covering her case, it made me happy when this video came up in my feed.

There was a case here in the UK two school girls were murdered and the killer helped with the search when they were thought to be missing he even spoke to the national news crew in fact it was that that got him caught because the interview thought his body language was off he turned out to work at the school his wife was the girl's teacher she was also involved it's called the Soham murders if you want to look up the case very sad and one of uks most horrible crimes

I knew Fawn Cox in real life. She was a co-worker at Worlds of Fun. The day after her murder we were all like "Where's Fawn?" She was never late for work and never called off. I found out the day after that what had happened. The costuming area was eerily quiet that day. I am glad the family finally got the answers they looked for so long and so relentlessly.

This is why I lock my doors, even when I'm just getting something from the car. I once was sitting in my car while on break at my work, and someone mistook my car for the one they'd come in and got into my backseat before realizing it was the wrong car. It hit me that anyone could just jump in and next time it won't be an honest mistake so now the doors are locked. Always.
ive always locked my doors because of things like this. i know back in the day people wouldn't lock their cars or homes because it was a slightly friendlier time, people used to live in culdesacks and everyone in those culdesacks become friends, almost family, so they leave their doors unlocked because of it. but i always lock my car doors lol, im afraid ill fall out onto the highway so i think ill be locking it if im just sitting in there.
I accidentally got into the wrong car in a supermarket parking lot once because it was unlocked, same make and model and color as my car. I got as far as attempting to put the key in the ignition and realized the interior was way too clean to be my car! I got out so quick and felt really embarrassed and hopes nobody saw me make that huge mistake.

It isn't a joke, it isn't simply an assault, it is a horrific and villainous act of violation of another for the point of exerting absolute dominance over another in the most brutal and devastating manner imaginable. RUclips, in their silent demand to "soften" rape and murder by those direct terms is, essentially, denying the truth and reality of what it is and the horror of such acts. People who demand that YT make such in turn demands are the very same people who deny their involvement, passively or actively, in the continued diminutive percentage of rape survivors reporting and following through with formal charges against their rapist. _That_ is more than mere censorship, _that_ is a denial of the problem and only serves to diminish the justice that needs be served sooner than later. I keep finding social media formats, which includes RUclips, to downplay direct language regarding and direct conversation of these topics. It's also clear that companies that advertise on social media don't like direct speech, specific and unambiguous language or discussion of topics which are very real to people and which need to be addressed. I'm not clear why they want that, I'm just clear that we don't need to live in the shadows of obfuscation any longer.

As a guy who had been sexually abused when I was a kid, it also felt that the word 'assault' was being thrown around too casually; it made me question the degree to which I still feel, live with this pain. It made me feel like as if I had dramaticized the whole 'incident', and whether it had all been in my head, or if I had been inadvertently hurting myself all this time (nearly 2 decades) instead of an actual wound which had happened. I felt guilty for the pain, if this makes any sense. Thanks for bringing this up.

It's up to you how you want to deal with it but everything you're saying is exactly how I felt and occasionally still feel when things are going poorly. I am immeasurably grateful for my therapist. She's helped me a lot and continues to. We are not alone and there is help.

I was thinking the same thing. Like what gave them the idea that its useful evidence? Im guessing the same way how brains on a wall is evidence to see where the gun was shot or the use of collecting animal hair as evidence to see where they could be. The skin cells are most likely kept because it shows that she was fighting. Or maybe they believe the future can use it because you can grow cells and see them under a microscope? Do they even know that you can grow them? Wonder what other things could be used as evidence that hasn't been discovered yet.

DNA sequencing was thought of and had been developed from the 1950s or so. I think the idea of it being a major tool in police investigations was well assumed for the future. We just had to invent faster, more reliable, and cheaper methods.

the first time DNA evidence was used to convict a killer (in the US) was in 1987. DNA ‘fingerprinting’ has been around for a bit before then but was never used for the application of perpetrator identification. a lot of people don’t realize that the type of dna analysis that is used for forensic cases is very different than dna analysis used for other purposes.
I am still a little dumbfounded by the first case. The mother left a nine-year-old alone in her house for many hours. Why couldn't the kid stay with a friend or relative?

I understand that it's a "trigger" for some people but this is about cold cases and they chose to watch it knowing that. Cold cases and crime in general can be "triggering." That much is obvious.

I'm thinking the same thing rn. He kidnapped a child and did something horrible to her for his own pleasure. It's obvious why he did it... the only question is whether he targeted her specifically because she was a child, or if he was just looking for someone vulnerable and weak. But his motive? I'm confused about Carla's case. If her boyfriend Rodney had seen and was able to give a full description of the man who kidnapped her, why wasn't he just brought in to identify McCurley when he was first suspected? Why didn't they just do a lineup and have him identify the guy?
because he didn't gave a full description. only details, most of cloths related, you need to describe the person's face with accuracy for this kind of thing, a lot of people have those kind of descriptions, white man, tall, blue eyes, white hair...

Late response but in another video on this case it's stated that Rodney didn't really get a good look at him, McCurley was standing close to the car so his upper body was hidden above the roofline of the car. He didn't get a very good look at him and before he passed out all he saw was Carla being taken away and the back of McCurley. McCurley also didn't fire the gun, it misfired three times before he ultimately pistol whipped Rodney and that's when the magazine fell out and onto the ground, Carla also didn't fall out of the car but was hanging down from the seat with her head near the ground. Not sure how these details got messed up as I'm pretty sure it was another EWU video i watched that went more in depth on the case

The first case proves what I've always thought about cops. They look for information that supports what they think or what they want to have happened and to hell with what proves actually happened.

My step-father was a homicide detective for 17 years. He told me that's exactly what they do, that they KNOW the "scum" (people they arrest) are guilty and will do whatever it takes to make sure they're convicted, even if that means lying or tampering with evidence.

I grew up in Mississauga and was in my early teens when this case was big news for a long time given the age of the victim and then the botching of the case by the police department.I have never forgot that case,and I’m glad the killer was finally found.Her parents can finally know the who behind their child’s death.

I remember when I was younger, my parents put me in Girl Scouts in hopes that I'd "become girlier". The Troop Leader never ever wanted to take the troop camping in the woods or anything, because of Peggy's case, despite us living in a different area entirely. I didn't know the details of her tragedy back then, but it puts a lot of how she handled things into perspective. When we did "go camping" it was always in either the Troop Leader's backyard or in the backyard of one of the girls. My troopmates and I would never ever be allowed to go somewhere alone. On field trips, we had to stick to the Buddy System. If we did a night hike, we were supposed to hold hands with our buddies. I was a little shit that would fuck off and do what I wanted and I'd worry the Troop Leader sick, and I feel fucking awful for it, especially now. Poor Peggy, I hope she's resting easy now, and that her family is doing well.

I wish there were more people like the last person, only in the sense that they had remorse for what they had done and wished to offer what little peace a confession of such a crime can bring.

A lot of these cases are cold because police either neglected to take the case seriously in the most important time or neglected it all together. Either way it was the polices' incompetence that let these killers get away.
They were smart enough to collect semen long before they knew it could solve a crime.

People confess to crimes for many reasons obviously because they have done it being one, pressure from cops, low intelligence. It has happened many times its nothing to do with being insane. Actually that is an answer of low intellect.

@@christurner87 I think it was no accident. In an interview with the family back then, he didn't make the impression of a child who lost their younger sibling. Much too composed and not sad at all. He was retelling his point of view like a report. And so not to lose both children, the parents rather covered it up.

I REMEMBER THIS GS CASE! We talked about this and we always don't allow girls to be in a tent alone. This was s scary story, I was a GS between 1986 to 1991. I am glad the case was solved!

We told our daughter to never open the door when she´s alone, doesn´t matter who´s there, not even for neighbours or police. When we moved to our house, first thing our neighbour told us was that he would babysit for us if we wanted and had no one to look after the kids. That was maybe a week after we moved here. Yes this could be a kind gesture, but this rang every alarm bell with me. I would never make such an offer to people that I barely even know, to this day I´m very cautious of him and I told our kids as well. It´s kind of hard to raise your kids not to distrust anyone, but I´ll sure better be safe than sorry...

As someone who was left with people that abused (physical, verbal and sexual) me while my parents were away, I applaud you for trusting your instincts and protecting your child. My parents trusted the people who looked after me and did all that, to the point where even baby me (age 5 or 6) did not have the guts to call them out. I’m glad you protected your daughter from something like that (yes, it’s not 100% certain he would’ve done that but it’s not unheard of either).
Why do people confess to a crime they haven’t committed?

Sometimes the police torture makes you confess. They put so much pressure on you that you have a mental breakdown. That, and they drill you hard enough until you start thinking that you might have done it. It's using psychology to get confessions.
Edit: Also to mention: people confess to gain notoriety. A lot of serial killers do that. They want their name to be known. It's a bit of an arrogance thing. Attention seekers.

Who the hell doesn’t call the authorities right away after finding an otherwise healthy teenager dead? Not only that, but to CLEAN UP the area around her! It’s amazing that there are actually people THAT stupid walking around on this planet. I’m surprised they’re able to put on their pants without help. I mean ffs. I’m sure her parents were beyond devastated when they found out that the adults they trusted to look after their daughter on that camping trip, just left her body in her sleeping bag for EIGHT HOURS before contacting authorities, all the while just cleaning up the camp site, destroying valuable evidence. Just…wow.

My aunt was murdered and never found right when I was born 38 years ago. I’ve been able to get some info from people that was around then and one women told me if I wanted to know what happen to come talk to her. I never got the chance. But I do now it was drug related and her and her friend knew to much about something and they both got killed.
