Hey, I just wanted to say that I'm a 65-year-old relative infant with Blender, which I can see is capable of utterly transforming the environmental training work that I do, and just wanted to say that your videos (of both Blender and other 3D software) and those of several others (Blender Guru, Gabbit Media, Blender Foundation) have been an absolute life-line for me. Watching you on my desktop while I follow your actions on my laptop have transformed my capacity to do useful things with this absolutely brilliant software. Bear in mind, I had already been working for four years after university when we thought (1980) that using the University of Cambridge mainframe to play a TRULY clunky game of Star Trek/Battleships (while we waited for the processing and print-out of our real environmental work to arrive at the service desk) was pretty cool.......
If you don't see the settings in the shade menu at 4:48 it might be because in Blender 2.9 the settings are in a different tab on the right side of the bar under options.
@@nothingnothing3211 If you're still looking, its all the way to the right, in the properties window. Go to Properties, Material Properties, and all the options should be under Settings and Viewport Display
This is hands down the most comprehensive tutorial for both PBR texturing AND particle system setup. Thank you SO much for this content, as a Blender beginner I keep coming back to it as a referral point. Great content, seriously.
I'd separate them by loose parts at 10:55 and then add them to a collection and then choose collection as my particle rather than object, it will add up to its variation. Well done
@@julienelson6506 He means while in edit mode with the blades of grass to separate each piece by pressing "p" and selecting "separate". Each piece will be its own object. Move them close together to make the grass clump. Then select each piece of grass using "Shift" and make a collection out of them by pressing Ctrl+G. On the bottom left a small menu with reading " Create New Collection" should appear. You can name it by clicking on it to extend the menu.
Genius!! :O I'm learning so much off of this tutorial :) just a bit scared cause i never worked with groups... Are they just a group of objects? Seems simple enough
Some issue i found and how i fixed them: 4:30 - Background keep staying black even though its set to Alpha blend. You need to create a _Transparent BSDF_ node. Connect its BSDF to your mix shader's 2nd "shader" option below _Fac_. 12:20 - You're supposed to duplicate your vertices in one object when in object editor mode. You don't make duplicates of the object. If you made the same mistake i did, just select all your grass blades > right click > join. Hen select your object in particles.
Truly an amazing tutorial! Great for everyone that wants to know more about creating realistic environments along with particle systems and some terrain sculpting. Thanks!
Absolutely gonna buy this. I have a plan for a farm scene and I dreaded thinking of how to do the grass. Now I have something to go off and it'll be easier. Once I actually learn more it'll look real nice.
If anyone for whatever reason is not having their material transparent after alpha blend, it's because you are missing the transparent bsdf node plugged into the mix shader.
You are doing great!! I am averaging an hour per minute of the video. I am now stumped at 12:20 and how I render my blades of grass as one object and not each individual blade. There must be a way to join the blades into one item, but it is back to searching google for how to do this next step
@Atharv Khatri You're very welcome, my friend. But I didn't do anything. Just provided encouragement. You did everything yourself. Credit where credit is due :)
I know this tutorial is old, but... Thank you! It´s a clean and professional tutorial, I hate the new channels with a lot of joking, noise and visual pollution! They distract us and the tutorial becomes a lost of time.
This video was incredibly helpful 🤍 I prefer this method over the ones I’ve seen in other videos, since this is much more customizable. I was able to adjust when needed to get the exact look I was going for. Thank you
Came across this while testing out things for a side project and while it did take me significantly longer than 15 minutes (being a Blender noob), it did produce some amazing results. I do have a couple further steps I'm trying to think of how to do though...
So precise and succinct. It may not be an add-on, but this is the best alternative for someone with no money! The only thing I'll do different is I'm going to use a texture for the ground that includes dead grass.
// Edit: Just got the render started, thrilled with the result. I used this to do grass, but also a wheat texture on farmland. So helpful for a current project! // Amazing tutorial. Really helping me feel more comfortable with nodes. When I got to the shader editor the default nodes for the foliage are different - it's the same file, but I have a principal bsdf instead of mix/transparent/diffuse - this tut is only 4 days old, I wonder what I did differently? Also, I don't have a "settings" tab under the node drop down in N menu... Under "options" I found alpha blend, but instead of "transparent clip" I get "alpha clip"; is this a 2.83 thing? I love what you did with the colorramp. Do you have vids where you apply that to other terrain - trees, mountains, water?
Thank you so much for your tutorial it really saved me some time. I have been having trouble with my blender since my GPU isn't supported but I had no problem with this tutorial. Thank you again.
12:21 If you have multiple blades of grass as objects instead of a patch of grass as one object press Ctrl + J in Object Mode to join them together. It should now show up in Instance Object as one object.
THANK YOU THAT WAS AWSOME i sill have a little trouble evening out the grass areas. i was hoping to create a manicured lawn. anyhow i am on my way. thank you again
This is the first 3D tutorial I've been able to do in a long time in which everything worked almost exactly as instructed. The only difference is that I'm now in 2.90.1 and some settings are a little different (Sun Light now has a Strength parameter instead of energy, and its default is 1000, so figure that out I guess). Great job; thank you! PS: Despite doing this from scratch I still bought the asset pack.
12:23 Hello. I was wondering if anyone can help me out. Whenever I do Grass tutorials, or try to make grass, I always get stuck at this part: 12:23 The problem, is that the Grass partials are always rotated sideways.
