    This was my first RC. I LOVED this thing. One thing I did that seemed to improve its stability when climbing up steep inclines as well as just trail riding was extend the rear axel back one notch. It also made it look slightly more proportional from the side view. I feel like the rear axel is a little too far forward when stock. You don't need any new links or anything. Just move the mounting points back.

    my Velcro came unglued not a big deal for me cuz I want to use magnets but yea just worth a note and also think about getting the metal front portals if you plan to drive over a far drop. Mine took a fall about 2 feet off the ground and snaped one of the steering rod mounts.

    The Gen series could be made so much better out of the box if they came with the 1080 like the Marksman.

  • @ryurc3033
    @ryurc3033 Год назад +2

    Solid rig in stock form(besides stock servo) and a 1080 would be a worthwhile upgrade even with the stock brushed motor. (Holmes hobbies makes excellent replacement brushed motors specific for crawling, and cheap!)
    Please use your Dremel on the fender flair and get rid of that goofy round shape (square the flair)
    And definitely look into replacing the steering servo, it won't last all that long.
    Amazon 35kg power hd servo.
    Cheaper Red case servo is not waterproof
    Blue is.

    I have two of these, green and purple. They are fun for sure. I've ran them hard and done things you really shouldn't do and they've lasted quite well. I consider them a good value for the cost. I put 3d printed interiors in both of mine as well along with the light kits.

    I absolutely love my Gen8! I've got so many upgrades and modifications on it, including a HobbyWing 1080 ESC, a stronger servo, Club5 steering links with a BowHouse extension to remove the bump steer, Gen8 light kit, ESS Dual+ sound module, weighted metal wheels wrapped with two stage foams & Injora tires, 15mm wide hexes to increase the track width, and a few other mods including homemade tailpipes and front skid plate. I know I'm forgetting some things but I've already rambled on too much. 😂😂😂

    I’ve had a couple chassis and this is the one I go back to. I added steel plates to my chassis floor and in front of the servo along with 3 5800 2s lipos for the realistic weight. The tires are ideal I. Any terrain just suggest wider metal wheels, the stock wheel hexes strip. Love my Genny!! Hope you do too!!!!!!!

      Yes, unfortunately the sale was over before the video was posted. In past years Redcat has done some sales around the holidays, but I'm unsure as to what kind of discounts may be on the horizon. I would recommend following Redcat on Facebook as they announce sales/specials, and is what alerted me to the $230 price I got this one for.

    I’ve got one and I’ve never had any problems with it. I lent it to a 10 year old new driver for a weekend long G6 event this summer and it survived some really punishing trails. It took one of the longest tumbles I’ve ever seen a truck do and survived with the body still attached when done rolling . (About 30 ft down a nearly vertical hill through woods, briars and bouncing off trees).

    • @MakeItRC
      @MakeItRC  Год назад +1

      lol funny you say that, I've seen quite a few kids at events with Redcat products and they sure seem to take a beating! Same with some of the smaller scale, lower cost FMS products. Pretty impressive the abuse some of these stock rigs can take.

  • @jonmandelbaum5395
    @jonmandelbaum5395 8 месяцев назад

    You know what actually got me the most excited about this thing is the way the body curves under on the sides, which is unusual for vacuum formed bodies. Ofc they did it by using the fenders to sort of clamp the body into doing that and I think it’s cool. Also the fenders to me look way better than the fenders the real truck had and that is a proverbial hill I’ll gladly die on. Also I’ve heard good things about the QC on these vs the gen7 and it was one of yhe first affordable rigs with portals which isn’t lost on me. I’d rather add weights to things that the drive train doesn’t have to turn tho. On the FCX24, brass covers for the portal’s gearbox are a thing. Idk if they are for other rigs. Also I like this thing’s simplicity. Everyone’s got two speed and now lockable diffs, selectable overdrive, and now you can switch between fwd, rwd, and 4wd on the latest rigs. Oh and dig too. Like ok I get it but simple means low anxiety for me because less to go wrong. Tho there are a few rigs with greater functionality I’d still be willing to throw money at including the FMS 1/6 Jimny. And I was gifted an FCX24 late last year so there’s that too. The new axial CJ7 is the most expensive one on my list rn. All I can afford rn are 1/64 diecasts lol tho they’re a different sort of fun. If I’m able to get the one in this video I’ll probably put in an interior and a driver and a hobbywing fusion … with the money I don’t have

      I don't see it advertised as waterproof. Visually it looks water resistant if you're careful but personally I wouldn't get it too wet without properly waterproofing the truck.

Likely not Tower's fault but they should be able to help resolve the matter one way or another.

    I've owned my redcat for a year now, it's my most driven truck. Not many parts are left stock on mine, and I've spent at least 60 hours of build time on it, and driven over 100 miles. First thing I'll tell you is that the gen 8 is a severely flawed vehicle. I love how it looks and handles, but it takes a lot of work to work out the kinks and poor design choices. Almost every part of this vehicle has broken, popped out of place, or come loose. By comparison my trx4 and vanquish Phoenix have never had these problems for me or my friends. If you leave the gen 8 stock then it wouldn't be a terrible vehicle. But when you add weight with brass and upgrade to stronger electronics, the vehicle simply can't handle it nearly as well as other brands.

    • @ryurc3033
      @ryurc3033 Год назад +2

      I have one of everything, trx4, scx10ii, vattera ascender, gmade Komodo, custom built wraiths, lcg aftermarket 10ii stuff. Started with. A redcat e10 years ago , and an ECX barrage, and trx has been most reliable on stock drivetrain.
      Axial wb8 driveshafts are ridiculously good, and even though people hate the noise, I still love Castle brushless electronics. Mamba X has the power for anything!
      Exactly like you said.....in stock form(with an upgraded servo) it's fine.
      As soon as you add more power, aftermarket wheels and tires, and aftermarket brushless electronics, it shows its weak points.
      Me and my son have put 500 miles on our rigs in the last 5 years.

    • @LogainTheHumane
      @LogainTheHumane Год назад

      @@ryurc3033 You'd have a lot more info than me due to having years more experience and more vehicles. But what causes the most breakdowns for me so far is weight more than power. With decent throttle control, the drivetrain of most modern rc crawlers is pretty strong. I've stipped an axle pinion gear or 2, and maybe busted a steering cv joint once, that's it drivetrain wise. But it's the weight that causes parts to bend, come loose and break upon falls, rolls, impacts etcetera. These vehicles are 5-7 pounds out of the box normally. After upgraded beadlocks, brass, links and bumpers, most of my rigs are 10-12 pounds, and my trx4 bronco is at a whopping 15 pounds. So far every vehicle has handled the weight without failures except the redcat gen 8.
