Love to see this. We have had the V2 in our RadioShack Store for a bit now and i just talked my boss into becoming a dealer for Horizon so our store will have a lot of RC's. Since we started selling RC's 3 tracks have opened around us. Our Store is in Newland NC. Not many RadioShacks left anymore. I always wanted to work at RadioShack growing up. I'm a little late to the game (I'm 39 )but, we are thriving.
I have the Orange V1 with the Bow House skid plate, alloy bead locks, AM foams but stock tires, magnets vs. Velcro & relocated steering link for reducing bump steer. Love it & a great value. Just need to paint the clear body I have for it. Rock on Avery 😜
my gen8 orange v1 is still holding up strong after 1 year, i ordered two parts with my v1 gen8, one being rer#11939 that's the parts that the v2 gen8 comes with, and there still sitting there brand new in the bag, and my other part was rer#11821 and those are also new in the bag, i loved my gen8 so much i build two gen8 packs one being a jeep cherokee hardbody 324wb on a gen8 pack, the other an axe international body on a gen8 pack build, i finally got my trx4 sport unassembled kit for christmas and that build start soon and ill turn that into a hardbody jeep comanche, next is my first tamiya kit maybe the isuzu mu aka the isuzu rodeo /amigo, so many options, i love the hobby and every brand brings something different, but redcat has always been good to me and never let me down...i love the hobby and redcat has always been good to me!!!
I have one ( purple also) and I looooooove it. I own TRX 4's and Axials of many models. I gotta say this is a very very competitive vehicle on all levels especially for the price. This is my first Redcat and I am pretty impressed. I want the Axe also.
I think RedCat has done a great job with the Gen8. The V2 has made some good incremental improvements, updated(yet period correct paint colors, good performance for a scale crawler, and you can’t beat it for the price. If I didn’t have a slew of crawlers at my disposal and I was looking to add a new one to my collection, I’d seriously consider the GEN8 v2. Your test driver is obviously a skilled operator with professional abilities. Thanks for the great review. 👍🏼
Finally lol! 1) cut the rocker panels up to the bottom of the door line and use spacers to raise the sliders. 2) with body off reset the bumpers in as far as they will go, then trim the front and back of body to fit over bumpers. 3) you can stretch the wheelbase by moving all the links to existing holes. I was skeptical doing this but it crawls better so....I did end up grinding and cutting away some of the flares and bumper for clearance. 4) Hair donuts, I know I know, but for $4 I got 4 medium size and stretched them over the foams (cheap 2 stage!) and this definitely helped. Much better entrance and exit angles and fewer el rolos for not much. Now you can start spending your hard earned cash on tires, wheels, motors, etc. Btw, I did pull covers off the diffs and portals and all were well greased from the factory. Imho Redcat did a good job addressing issues with the V1 and we love our V2. Francis, you are the boss! Keep doin' what you do!
I could hear the body scraping on the passenger rocker panel, it wasn't tucked behind the rock slider. 😱 I have the green one , with a few mods, love it!!!
You have the IH Scout body license . One perfect mod Redcat could do is release a V2 with with the Axe system and a half-cab body !! It will lower the CG and give it the updated look without throwing too much company money at it. The vanquish isn’t a licensed scout half cab after all! Come on, let’s get Redcat to make a half-cab Axe edition !!!!
I have put brass on mine about 250 grams in the front and it has completely changed the truck its amazing now plus a servo shocks and tires but noticed the biggest difference with the brass.
I have this car it’s the best!! For upgrades I’ve got all the treal weights major difference!!! Also Austar tires and pro line dual stage foam. Metal drive shafts. Also spektrum smart crawler system with dx5c this things is so good it can hang with a vanquish vs410 ultra
0:36 who was that? Peter Griffin? LOL Glad to see you back. Also, saw one of these at the river the other day and I was quite impressed. It killed it!!!!!!!!!
That was a fun video. I would like to see you list all the things that were wrong with the Gen 8 V1. The things, that people complained about and had to fix to make it better. And then compare the gen8 V2 to that list and see if Redcat improved on every one of those points. I believe they did. I believe it cost the consumer $100 to fix everything that was wrong with the V1. I believe Redcat fixed everything on the V2 and the shocking news is, they kept the price the same on the V2. Which makes this new Scout and incredible deal. Just an idea for your next video Francis keep up the good work. By the way Avery rocks...!
Great video. Would love to see wheels and tires upgrade. A bonus would be a lighter body, brass and lover cg. Edit Love the original body but it seems to hold it back when it comes to crawling.
Since this is a budget truck, I’d like to see “budget” upgrades in order of importance. In other words, what should be upgraded first, the second, etc based on a performance quality per dollar standpoint. I just got this truck but don’t have a lot to spend right now. So I’m looking at where best to spend what little I have. Thanks! Great review!
Stretch the wheelbase it's a free mod. it changes it to 13.2 in. you can leave the bumpers in the stock location and they're no longer a problem. you know what they call this in the RC World a game changer. Rock on and enjoy your Redcat.
Brass patties on all 4 wheels and front brass diff cover, she’ll be much more grounded. Add front brass portal covers & c-hubs to that, she’ll defy gravity.
I have both the Gen 8 and Gen 8 V2. What I like about these vehicles is that that neither one of has any kind of upgrades. I run both right out of the box and like every thing about both. I do own several TRX-4s and a TRX-6 along with Axial and Gmade crawlers. Real happy with the price for the Red Cat Scouts.
Great video👌. My personal appinion is that a strong slower servo is more scale than a hyperfast. Never seen a driver in scale 1/1 turn that steering that fast that many rewierers recuiers😅
If you had to purchase only one would you go with the gen 8 v2 with all the fixes they did or would you go with the gen 9? I really like the 2 speed transmission on the gen 9 but like the body on the gen 8 more.
hey, which crawler can you recommend me? by now im thinking about trx 4 blazer or bronco, axial scx10 gladiator and the emo but if u have better ones tell me please!
I never really notice a big problem with bump steer in the V1. But I hate the painted windows, and the lack of throttle modulation especially in reverse. The V2 looks like a nice improvement, especially the clear windows and lack of belly bump. I had plans of clearning my V1 windows but never did. I bought the files to 3D print an interior, then my printer broke. I might have to pick a V2. I think the Redcat Gen8 is the best bang for the buck in it's class.
If they were still $299 I would buy one in a split second, they are now $330, add some shipping, tax and a battery and its getting up there. Such an nice looking truck..
Seems all it needs is a good lower cg lighter body. Tires ,foams, heavier beadlocks and youre good. Maybe some low front weight...maybe... if it rolls over all day thats not fun so priority #1 has to be fixing the cog issue.
It likes like its vastly improved compared to the older models. I like the lcg style chassis they use. But I always have to ask myself "is it worth it over the trx4 sport for 339?" I dont quite think it is yet. The sport is a straight performer right out of the box. Redcat is coming along nicely though. Especially with using the axe systems and reefs servos in some models.
, I was happy to buy a better looking rc at a cheaper price although your correct sport is stronger but if only using for crawler you never know . The sport woukd be 438 if these companies didn't make crawlers,
@@paulclancy2404 that is true. The market dictates the price. Imo something around 500 bucks and less is my main market. Anything more than that and i I start to back away faster and faster. It's the exact reason why I bought my tf2 used and dont own a vs410 yet.
I been wating for 2 months for 2 trx-4 ford and chevy never showed my 6 year old is giving up on rc cars firs we get ripped off then traxxas won't help so I might be looking in to another brand
Francis, as always a good vid. I have been in the RC hobby since the 80'S. I have lots of vehicles & now looking for a crawler. Would you recommend the Gen 8 v2 or the Gen 8 axe. Both seem like a great value.
So I have been wanting to get a Gen8 for some time now. Which would you get, v2 or axe edition? Little man is killing it !!! When you retire Fran, you have a replacement host!!!🤘🤘🤘
I’ve been looking at this truck but was waiting for your review, thanks! We have other RCs but I’m looking to get into crawling with my 8 year old and we are between this and a TRX-4 Sport, which seem almost impossible to find right now. We would be doing mostly trails, not a lot of extreme rock crawling, would this be a good truck to start out with?
@@RCReviewChannel Thanks! It looks like a really solid truck and good value for money, my only reservation has been potential issues with parts support. My local shops are all mainly Traxxas.

It's a fun rig! Super great value. I'm really happy with mine as well. Hopefully catch you out on the trails soon
What up RCG!
8mm hexes, heavy wheels, better foams, keep the IROKS. Just my suggestion for the upgrades. Love the video
Nice, never had to fix my gen 1, but this one's a deal!
My Gen 1 only broke twice and it was my fault. Got the Gen 2 skid plate and she still impresses me. Redcat did a hell of a job!
There you go. We appreciate your first hand experience.
How is the spare part / afermarket parts supply for the Gen8? Easy enough to get wheels, bodies etc?
I am glad they keep improving these. Awesome deal. I actually like the new colors alot more than the V1. Nice review!
Oh snap I think I need one always like the orange body ...but could do purple. Good to see you back Francis.
Glad to see you back Francis! Hope you are well!
about time a proper crawler video gets posted 😁
Absolutely love my v2. Enough I bought my son the green one!
Finally! I'm happy with my orange V1 and I love the purple and green from the V2, they look stunning IMHO.

A discount and free shipping sale popped up on New Years Eve so I grabbed a green one for 2023. Thanks for your reviews.
Nice, I'm thinking about picking one of these up so I can try and get some friends into this with me.
I'm impressed by that kid: drives like a boss, follows instructions really good. A real champ!!!
nice one, tito francis. thank you for finally doing a video on the gen8 v2. can’t wait for more videos (mods, pros & cons, vs., etc) on this rig. 👍🏻😀🍻

I have debated bringing a redcat back to the channel.
