I love your review. As a first time RC buyer, I researched the heck out of these things, and determined that these are the best bang for the buck! I purchased a purple Gen8 last week, and absolutely love it so far. I’ve got a lot to learn, but from what I can tell, this is a great platform to learn on without dumping tons of cash into upgrades.
I've had no issues with the velcro body fastener either. My method of taking it off is having my thumbs on each ends of the front bumper, then lifting the body up with my index fingers. This'll release the front velcro, from front to back, rather than trying to fight the holding power of the entire velcro strip all at once. Then grab the front of the body and continue "peeling" it back until the back is fully released. Not only does this method makes a lot less effort to remove the body, but it also prolongs the life of the adhesive backing of the velcro strips. Awesome job on that rig, Sir!
Thanks dinh!!😁😁 I think it's a great system, I liked it on the gen7 and it's even better on the 8!! I can't believe how many people have complained about it! Alot of new trucks are coming out with hidden clips now, which I feel will get dirt in them and not work well!! Still have some things to finish on it like an interior!!
I was planning on getting the Axe Edition, however, when I called Redcat the other day I asked if they're coming out with a new model and the answer was intriguing. Although the sales person said "I cannot say yes or no to that question", he did say "If we do have one coming out very soon, it has huge improvements on the Axe and is called the Axe Edition V2". He also said "Although you would be very happy with the Axe edition, you would be very happy with the V2 version as well". It was like a riddle me this batman scene, lol. I also asked if the price was going to be the same for the V2 Axe as is for the current Axe Edition, and he said "Yes, the price is going to be the same".
Hello!! Well you know that company's like their surprises 😮, more then likely the v2 axe will have all the same changes that the gen8 had , plastics which won't be bad if not raising the price. Even considering that redcat and others just raised their prices, redcat only did 30.00, not bad considering their kits prices. But I just looked and amain has the axe right now without the 30.00 markup, I waited till the v2 myself so if your wanting the axe I would wait for the v2! Thanks for coming bye!!😁😁
I ordered the gen8 V2 on NYE. It was under 300 with free shipping. Looking to see what it can do after 2 years with a TRX4 Blazer that I really don't use enough.
I have the first gen 8 and it been my underdog of all my rc's and let me tell you that it's my favorite next to my trx4 ! The only thing that happen is one of the front axle shaft that broke , but other then that it go's and do wath ever the other's do and in some cases even better ! Great truck , i agree with you and i also think that all RC should come in that price range too !
Hello jimmy!! Welcome. Iam actually going to get another cheap rig to run with the big dogs!! Even looking at the older top trucks it's amazing how much better the redcat stacks up and still cheaper!!
I've been away from crawlers because of other hobbies and my living condition has changed. I don't have the space to build like i used to. I've been looking into the Redcat gen 8 and i like everything about it. I also like the axe but you don't have much to upgrade on that model. Thank you for the review and i like the changes you made to ur body to throw off all the green.
Thanks LJay!😁 other then the better electronics in the axe and the body they are the same truck and both are fabulous in my book. You could always find something to upgrade but detailing a body is the cheapest and most fun!!😆😆 you go with the gen 8 and will be very happy like I've been.
Thanks again for the comparison of the Red Cat. I am really beginning to become a fan of this rig from this series. So you definitely helped me make a decision. That shock and link set up is final kick over to bring the Red Cat to the top of my list for at least 2 trail/scale build ideas.
Hey man, so on the same "grape vine" (cheaper better) i just had an axial scx10 ii throught the door and had a look.. Wow... Mostly plastic...!! Did not expect that! The clone "reely freeman" is mostly metal... !! Kinda stumped for a video now.. Was thinking the scx10 would make a great low cg beast but.. Now.. Wow.. What are ur experience with axials plastic?
Hey marco! Axial has never offered much in the way of metal (mostly links) that's why I feel they are so heavily modified. I've had lots of scx10's and have never broken any plastics but also none have had more then stock power! That was the reason I used a scx10.2 for the mud truck build so I will see how it can handle it! I think you should be alright with it for your low cg build, it will be light for sure plus tons of aftermarket support!😁😁
Nice rig and your personal touches, makes it possible for a lotta upgrades w/ a reasonable purchase price. Your going to start having to build more selfs at the rate your racking up rigs 😁
Actually the Scout II was a larger body the the first gen Scouts that were about the same size as an early Bronco. Scout II was about the same size as the second gen Broncos.
Thanks John! Getting side by side comparisons was hard to find, I found an old car and driver piece on the scout ll , fj40, and the bronco. But I did find lots of ads where the scout ll was targeting the blazer 😁😁 that's for fact checking me bud!😆
Great work on the Red Cat, Gerry brother. It does look pretty awesome. Once again you have Put your special touch to it. It really looks great!! I have seen one with a Black instead of white. Looks good as well. Once again I have to admit. These rigs are coming further and further into the mainstream Hobby. Thanks for sharing bud. Great run down on it as well
Hey nick, thanks my friend I've been abit crazy on some painting of late doing another body refresh right now!! I can't wait for spring to really start getting out and testing the redcat! I think the green lends itself to better detailing then the purple. Iam glad you have given it another look, I feel for a first timer or an old hat like us this is a promising platform!😁😁
Thank you Roger!! Having both it is a bit hard to choose, but I would go with the redcat! The redcat is bigger, stock tires are better, inner fenders are nicer and I feel it performs better also. Both have nice aftermarket support but the lower price and what you get makes the gen8 my winner😁
Im so sick of ppl playing off redcat like its not a top contender....they been knocking off the competition since day one. This is the best truck out there out the box and the axe edition forget about this underdog sht talk. I out crawl most of my friends no issues since day one if you take care of it.
I totally agree erek! Iam building the wendigo kit right now and having built kits for years it is outstanding!! The fit and finish is excellent, parts are heavy-duty. Redcat has really paid attention to the market and their customers!!
Have you actually seen the international scout in real life verses the ford bronco 2??? I build internationals, and I can guarantee you, the scout is twice the size of a bronco 2. I think redcat nailed the scale
That's something that disappoints me about my trailwalker, it doesn't come with inner fenders and it's hard to find any that fit without modifications, if at all. But as dollar per dollar goes, I'd take the Redcat out of that lineup.
@@gerrysoldguyreview they do, but they're for the Sendero body, the inner dimensions are different. Club 5 also makes some nice ones but they're for the same body too. I got a set from them and wound up just leaving them off cause they're just not right.

Welcome Jimmy! Iam glad I helped out!!😁😁 take it slow and just enjoy the truck! Upgrade later when needed.
I am thinking about getting this truck as my first crawler
You can't go wrong!😁
Your scout looks amazing love all detail paint work you did
Thanks a bunch Gonzalo! I like to put my own details on all my trucks!
I just bought mine, after I saw your review! Thanks it’s everything you said

Thank you jet!!
The Scout ll is much bigger than the Early Bronco. The early Scout was very similar.
I thought it was since the scout II was targeting the blazer!😁

I agree Gerry. I have the Axe Rig. Great Rig. Like what you did with the decals.

Only the TRX4 sport comes without fender wells. Both my Blazers have them stock. But they were also 540 Dollars
True! Elements don't come with them, or rc4wd😁
The body is perfect!!!
I agree completely vic!! Redcat nailed it😁😁
What are the two company's you got the lights from?
My trick rc and yeah racing😁
I got them at AMAIN
You should get a sound kit for it that’s what I have...it makes it sound so realistic
