Man I’m addicted to these RC4WD trucks for the scale factor. I’m a scale guy who has to love looking at what I’m driving. -plus they have all the real scale goodies and nice steel bumpers and such. So many ways to trick them out. Heavier the better on the leafers!! - Got that new RTR red 4R on the way as I type. 82 is in the box waiting for holiday time. -Cheers Gerry!
The Marlin I won in January was my first 1/10 and I love it. I got an SSD Trail King shortly afterwards, it's a great rig as well; definitely a completely different driving experience/style and type of performance between the 2. Options for wheel/tire combo on both is endless, depending on what I want do with it.
The trail finder 2 holds a special place in my heart I bought kit versions for each of my kids and we all built them together at the time they were 10, 7 and 5 years old… that’s what got them into the hobby. They liked it so much. I bought another for my wife and we used to go on hiking trails and walk the cars. LOLs
@@gerrysoldguyreview yeah too bad they’re are all grown up and off doing their own thing now !! working on the next generation. They’re a little bit younger and more wild so started them off with some axial RTR scx10ii… I look forward to helping them, put their first kit together in the near future!
I've been doing rc4wd sense the OG Trail stomper. Any Tf2 can be modified to perform just as well as any linked rig. Great looking rigs Gerry. Actuality my buddies FJ40 is a good bit bigger than his 78 Hilux. They look scale accurate to me. The Blazer I agree is kinda to small, but ah ,still more scale than portals and links under a 70s Blazer lol! Ive taken my xtra cab out and hit the same lines with small 3.85 tires that we run with those huge 4.75 linked rigs and I can do just as well. Tje FJ and the landy is on a shorter wheelbase than the tf2 4runner. Rc4wd makes basically 3-4 chassis . SWB=short wheelbase, STWB=Standard wheelbase which is 4runner, Blazer, Mojave, LWB=Long wheel base, Xtra cab, k10, then the Fj40 and the jeep are are similar Short wheelbase models but have slight differences. If you upgrade to a 2n1 in that rc4wd 2 speed transmission youll definitely fins the slop lol! Rc4wd 2 speeds are awful once you get a nice smooth brushless system in. I always say a leafer will actually make you a better driver and its about scale scaling not trail bashing anyone can slap a trx4 up against some rocks a leafer males you a driver 😉 good video Gerry. Had 3 Tamiya back in the day ans the release or whatever they call them have crap plastic geared transmissions. Oh and articulation is over rated lol😂 and you need the bowhouse rear leaf mounts it won't lock back like that.
Thanks for you awesome rc4wd knowledge! Still want to get a SWB to put my tamiya wrangler on, and a LWB extended cab! Just feel I need them in my life. Have been thinking that my 4runner just needs a full mod out!
RC4WD is one company I've been on the fence about buying . Mostly because of others , but I do Love how scale they look ! Thanks for this video 😊 If I'm ever able to get an RC4WD is thank I want the black square body pickup .
@@Bluecuban71 they get a lot of flak, but honestly they have massively improved what you get for the money and the overall QC. Have had no real “out of the box” issues that people used to talk about. Very well packed now in 2 separate parts. You will love it if you like realism!
@gerrysoldguyreview ok. My bad. I guess I seen the one you have on the self a while back & thought it was the FMS. They look just alike other than size.
Thank you very much for this video and info much appreciated. Definitely love the scale performance and realism over the pure crawler capabilities. Tf2 looks awesome. I will certainly put that as the first to buy rig. Next time you do maintenance on it would love to see it, and maybe a small explanation on what to thread lock before it’s taken out 😂 once again thank you for the video
From one old guy to another. SPOT on! just sub'd. RC4WD's are more for the scale enthusiasts. I have done a 2 speed on a Gelande II. Its a bit of work and fiddling but can be done.
Thanks Gerry that’s a great video I appreciate that you tell it like it is , someday I’ll get an RC4WD! Had a few Yotas over the years , 1985 was the last year for the solid front axle I think 🤙🪨 rock on

Agreed! I get alittle crazy with all the goodies you can put on them!
Watching the fj40 bounce done the trails is my favorite 😋
Fj40 does bounce excellently!
Awesome video Gerry. Cool looking rigs😊
Thanks for watching Greg!
8:10 Nice 👍
Rc4wd has detailed hardbodies and leaf spring chassis is something else. Really want the shrinkrc mount and do a hardbody on the ascent.
My buddy here does the shrinkrc mounts and the work great 👍

You have a great taste in rigs!

Unfortunately for me my kids did it when young but left it behind as adults 🙃 and only 1 of my grand kids ever tried but she is also out!

Nice comparison Gerry. I have both also only my Gelande II is the Land Rover. I love the em both. Great rigs. Probably get the FJ40 on a sale someday.
I think the FJ40 is a great choice!
