Get Ahead with Batch Cooked Steel Cut Oats in the Instant Pot

- This Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats Recipe is a timesaver at any time, but this week it's all about reducing clean up too as our dishwasher failed (Yikes!). If you've not cooked steel cut oats as a batch before, it's really simple. Just cook them as a basic recipe in the Instant Pot with water and salt then add all your extras, including a splash of dairy or nut milk and your favourite toppers, when you do the reheating in the microwave in the morning. This prevents the dreaded Instant Pot Burn Notice and also means the Oats are food safe for a longer storage time. I hope this method helps when you need to grab back some time or save on that washing up.

I'm glad you added salt to your oats - I always think that people who say they don't like porridge or oatmeal haven't added salt. It's absolutely crucial!
Ah thank you! Totally agree. I used to think that myself and always needed milk too but since switching to steel cut and salt, everything changed 👍
Thank you for your straightforward tutorial and for including the ratio of water to oats. The peanut butter idea is wonderful!Happy holidays from across the pond in the USA!
You are so welcome and all the good wishes also being sent right across that pond 👍🎉
I was really worried that I was going to stick to the bottom of the pot, glad I saw that, will not. have to make some! I just love oatmeal!
Hi Lissy, Yes it's the milk (dairy or plant based) that makes it stick I think - no issues at all if you do it with water in that lovely stainless steel - even for me who hates washing up :)
Looked yummy!!!
Thanks Millie - it really is the best!
I am an oatmeal lover too.. it looks so yummy! Where do you buy the steel oats from? Thank you
Hi there Solange. If you're in the UK, I get mine from Infinity Foods which is a co-operative and we have a bulk buy account so it works out cheaper and they last such a long time as long as sealed up. Some supermarkets also have them and a lot of health food shops. Sometimes called Pinhead Oats. I hope that helps. It's sunny here today but still super cold outside, so that oatmeal is very welcome in the mornings!
Thank you very much. I love your videos❤
I just ordered the instant pot duo crisp! I’ll be moving into a small flat on my own and won’t have room for a separate air fryer and pressure cooker. Does the Duo Crisp (almost) work as well as a stand alone air fryer? What about if I just wanted to bung some chips in there. Would it to the job? Just discovered your channel I love it!
Ah thank you Emily- it will TOTALLY do the job ☺️ . Here's me making chips in my Duo Crisp! ruclips.net/video/9flEEPEvylE/видео.html
You can soak your dishes in your sink or bathtub with dishwasher tablet. If such disaster strike
Thank you
YOUR RECIPE BLOWS ALL OTHERS AWAY. There are hundreds of steel cut oat recipes out there. I had about 8 instant pot steel cut oats recipes in my bookmarks. I spent weeks trying them all. I even gave up on IP oats and went back to slaving on the stove top. For a time, I even went back to rolled oats, yuck. One recipe even had me putting coconut oil in the bottom of my instant pot so it would not stick (mine is exactly the same model of yours). What a waste of time trying to figure out the easiest way! Yours is easy, no add ins (just water and salt) which makes for no sticking. I just add all my add in's and fat when I heat it up on the stovetop. Tip: don't make the mistake I made the first time with her recipe. Use only 2 cups of steel cut oats. I tried 3 cups of oats in my 6qt IP; what a mess oozing out and making the lid stick for an hour. Stay with the 2 cups as she suggested.
Thank you ! I’ll never do it any other way 😊
