I remember back in April of 2010, Kendrick tweeted that he was in Detroit and performing at The Shelter (where the real 8 Mile battles took place) which is in the basement of Saint Andrews for $20 tix. Him, Q, and TDE were on a promo run for Overly Dedicated. My boy and I were working on my first mixtape, and decided to take a break that day from recording. I saw that tweet and said let’s pull up. We got there and went to Sweetwater Tavern to get some wings across the street from the venue, and Kendrick & Q happened to be in the booth behind us. We didn’t notice until they left though. When it was time to perform, no lie, there was about 10 or 11 people in TOTAL in there and they both rocked that shit like it was 10,000. No ego. Even after the show, Kendrick & Q stuck around and kicked it with everyone until it was time to go. I’ll never forget that experience. Over those next few months, he blew up like crazy and his fanbase grew phenomenally. Punch talking about them in that grind period is so poignant. They definitely put in the work fasho so it’s amazing to see where they are now.💯
Y’all have no idea how grateful I am for this podcast. Thank yall so much. Hearing these stories remind me to keep going and that nothing happens overnight. I’m an independent artist with no team doing everything on my own and I get exhausted sometimes but I keep going because something inside me won’t let me stop no matter how hard it gets. This show is needed. Thank yall so much.
Oh this was definitely needed because SZA is a phenomenal talent and what Punch has done with TDE is remarkable and also this perfect timing...facts or real life facts?
Was waiting on a SiR mention because of his pedigree, family origin & the bodies of work he’s put out over the last few years🙃 it would be great if yall could have him on. Esp with the work he, his brothers and cousin have done with Tyrese
I love that every guest always complements Tank and J for what they are doing for R&B even though the platform is for giving the guests their flowers, they always give some back too❤️❤️❤️👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🔥🔥🔥
49:00 that story he told about a suicidal girl telling Kendrick his song saved her life changed not only them but the tde music label. TDE will live forever..
My dad played the Temptations on every long car ride, 80’s house parties/BBQ’s w/his Air Force friends, remember dancing w/him when I was 4 to the Temptations, etc. So nostalgic! RIP to my best friend, my daddy! ❤🙏🏾🥹
Amazing interview. Love interviews from individuals like Punch. These are so crucial. Not too many people like him. Key component to the culture and music as a whole. Filled with integrity, principles and values. Love it.
45:10 "That room is connected" 🙌 I felt that. J is preachin sometimes and don't even no it. He's not even trying. Lol Always dropping gems. Its appreciated though.
I learned a lot about artist development and branding. Another insight was that to succeed in the music business, you have to think strategically. Also, when ending a partnership, you should "pat down" to ensure you leave with what is rightfully yours. This principle aligns with the biblical idea of leaving with the spoils.
1:20:57 yea I think artists that make music for themselves have lasting careers. That’s why I love artists like SZA, Ari Lennox, Jazmine Sullivan.. their music comes off authentic & they have great music taste.
Can you move the time stamp to the bottom of your comment? I can't check the comments without it skipping to this part. I have to keep searching for where I was after checking the comments.
Capella grey is definitely filling that spot in New York right now. He’s got everything…waiting for him to fill arenas. His career is gonna blow like sza’s for sure
Not mentioning SiR during the “current R&B” conversation is WILD. Let’s not forget - Xavier Omar, Durand Bernarr and ELHAE. Yall gotta revisit that conversation
I remember when the CTRL tour tickets went on sell. Instantly sold out! I was so hurt. I feel like even during the CTRL era, SZA could’ve done bigger venues. Idk about arenas but definitely bigger. Her demand was extremely high after CTRL dropped.
This episode was very inspiring especially people wanting to start labels!! And yes Tank!! ...I'm mad taco bell got rid of those caramel apple empanadas...I use to crush those!!
I'm glad he talked about the time they had with Tech N9ne. This is when I met Kendrick Lamar. I was backstage at one of those Tech and E-40 concerts in Fresno. Me and Kendrick talked for a little bit and then he gave me his Section 80 project. This is when I was barely starting to do music and I immediately played that album on the way home from the show. I was like oh yeah whoever this is. He is going to be next up for sure. Then litteraley a year later I couldn't stop hearing about Kendrick Lamar. His feature with Tech N9ne I Love Music was a hit for me. I was like damn I can't get away from this dude ever since I met him lol. I hope he does a song with my cousin Syd Da Kyd (Syd from The Internet) at the time is what I thought. TDE keep doing the damn thang.
I just came back here bcuz I just found out Punch’s “I ain’t saying no names” is about the diddy and j Cole fight that was supposed to be just a “rumor”🤯 the first part of the story was Diddy talking to TDE over Kendrick’s control verse then him & Cole got back into it. this also explains why Diddy is in so much trouble now…he was always threatening or being violent with ppl…men & women🤦🏾♀️
TDE has some of the baddest on their roster, still. That's undeniable. It's definitely an artistic label. Nobody has that vibe quite like them. Obviously PG because Kendrick and Dave are cut from the same cloth but you know what I mean.
It would be funny to have some random fans be interviewed with R&B Money Podcast. Get the fans view of R&B. To get their story and how they fell in love with R&B. Get a fans top 5 and no names story. I think that would be interesting to watch.

J. Valentine, I asked my 15 year old what he would play for his girl and he said “My Heart Belongs to You” Jodeci. I’m so proud!

Pat down is some universal hood message...😂

One of the best pods out! 💯 some of most talented artists droppin jewels to the game and jokes all in one!
Tank unlocked a core memory with the Frutista Freeze 🤣🤣
It’s Our Time🏆 #WESTCOAST
Dope interview! Missed a few shots (SiR, Zachary, Doechii raps and sings) interesting.. part II maybe??!!?! 🤔 Stull the best podcast in the game!
The part with the difference between make music for yourself and music for people IS Knowledge 💎💎💎
Punch's top 5 songs were the truth. I'm born & raised Motown. Big ups.
When Tank slaps the keys in the top 5 intro, it slays me everytime! 😂😂😂
J valentines really loves new Jack city😂😂
😅❤
These two R&B guys are the best interviews in the game...bar none.
So R&B money podcast ain’t talk about the male R&B TDE artist SIR?
My thought exactly
Maybe he’s on the list of upcoming guests
That is pretty wild fr
@@malikradford but not a mention I understand how big SZA is but SIR dropped two great albums under TDE most recently this year
I just commented this. And towards the end they discussed current male rnb and didn’t mention him. Weird
Shoutout to Punch for picking the songs on the Sun tirade, Damn and Redemption plus Oxymoron can't forget about Herbert.✌🏼
I Aint Saying No Names is definitely about Kendrick 'Control and J.Cole's and Diddy's fight.

1:43:28 for Sir to not be mentioned in the R&B conversation… is he not TDE still?🤔
He is still TDE. I was shocked to not hear and honorable mention though
Happy Saturday R&B Money!!! Thanks for another one! "I'm good money - I know!" LOL Luh ya'll!
I really enjoyed this interview.

I love punch and glad he’s on here but I’m not sure how we can be talking about r&b or TDE and not mention SiR
Caramel Apple Empanada was UNDEFEATED.
Yo thanks for mentioning Phoenix J!!!!!!
Treating Sir like Reason is wild as hell
I wondered if they would bring up reason but I remembered this pod usually never touch the messy stuff. Gotta respect it
This Show Dope🔥🔥🔥 #TDE
Is the TDE movie in the works? Hearing this interview, the story should be a hit!
