A watch dealer here in Singapore has 6 of these watches on display and has not moved a single one in the last six months. Meanwhile, the two tone white dial daytonas are all sold.
I don't think they're concerned about scratches on the bezel rim so much as they are concerned about full ceramic bezels cracking from hits ....... Also , I think they're tooling up to finally be able to make a sapphire sandwich luminescent bezel GMT Pepsi ( like the old reference in bakelite from the. 50s ) , and they're using the Daytona as stealth test bed for that engineering venture , because otherwise like you said , full ceramic beeing prone to crack yes but very rarely , there's no point in adding a metal outer ring
Ah that is a very interesting theory, it would be great if they were to roll it out among the other models particularly the GMTs 👌 Fingers crossed for this one!
@@thehonestwatchdealer if i was a financially minded engineer board at rolex that's what i'd do ...Refine the bicolor ceramic process , then refine the outer rings to see if they create problems over time , then lume the bicolor ceramic add a saphire ring on top and surround it with a metal ring to clamp ot all together ....I'm sure they take lots of time cuz ... those are supposed to be water resistant timepieces you don t want water ingress chemically altering the lume inside the sandwitch ... Great video! Must be amazing to hold that one in person and see it. I was wondering regarding the glidelock that is offered on certain model. Which ones are the ones that currently has it? My Submariner No Date has the extensive one ofc and I absolutely love it since it can often be such a small size adjustment that makes it fits perfect for how swollen your wrist currently is. Do the Stainless Steel Datejusts and GMTs come with an glidelock or just the easylink?
When it comes to no glidelock on GMT/Daytonas, my theory is that they want to keep clasp slimmer on these models since easy link clasp is a bit less chunky compared to glidelock.
Wow. Glad you finally got your hands on one and thanks for sharing it!! You often share your "buy" or "pass" opinions when offered watches from the AD but did not for this watch. Of course one could quickly flip it to the gray market for a profit but I am curious about long term value. Historically, the rare metal watches have not held value over the years..curious what you take is on this one is for a long term hold/investment.
hihi, anyone can advise, why a FULL GOLD watch like 126618LB, a brand new piece after leaving A.D or 1-2-3 month later the prices drop so much ?? please advise..
Unfortunately the market is quite slow for full precious metal models at the moment, so likely due to being such a high RRP the market sets the price of their true value, which is below the RRP.
I’m actually not a huge fan of the open caseback. Rolex should be known for their workhorse movements, not artisanal finishing. Still a great video Charlie!
Okay - sounds right- or $91,874.50 - I paid msrp of $80,000 for my platinum Daytona baguette that I bought from my AD about six months before the new version was released. And in a state with no sales tax. I like how heavy the watch feels. Fun to take it off and hand it to a friend to see their surprise at how heavy such a small watch actually weighs. Much heavier than my Cameron deep sea - I would like to know how the old vs new feel in terms of weight and the actual difference in measurable weight to find out if Rolex saved a bunch of money by replacing the solid platinum back with a piece of cheap glass. The ability to “see” the mechanism from the front of a watch makes sense but on the back ? How often are you going to hold the watch upside down and stare at the back??? I don’t have to see the engine on my GT3 Porsche and I don’t need to see the works on a platinum Daytona from the back - I believe it is not an electric movement. I trust Rolex.
This guy probably bought it straight from an AD. The way it works is the AD sells the hot pieces to flippers they know/trust. When the flipper sells it for a huge amount over Rolex’s stated retail price, the flipper gives the AD a cut of his profit, so he keeps getting the hot pieces in the future.
Charlie, I think Rolex should make at least their precious metal Daytonas open back. Rolex are so out of touch when it comes to their case backs. Other brands been doing that for years. Platinum Daytona with their new improvements definitely gets 👍
i know how u feel. but it is pretty obvious they want to make the open case backs extra special like this Platona and LE Mans edition. If they bring case backs for other regular options, the appeal that Rolex built all these years might diminish to some extent.
(i'm not saying they were a shop window watch) but yep most of the AD's that received them moved them on quite quickly. It seemed that a batch was released around the December time@@thehonestwatchdealer. More AD's have had this model in that the titanium yachty surprisingly
rolex should not be doing see through case backs, their movements are tested and durable for sure but if we speak about finishing and aesthetics they’re terrible for the prices. AP, PP and VC are not miles, but light years ahead
The person who bought this watch is very fortunate. Looks amazing. Great insight into the watch and its detail. Charlie knows his beans! LWC have you done a “off catalogue” video or the most expensive pieces Rolex stock?
Such a stunning model isn't it, so glad you liked the video mate, I really appreciate it! An off catalogue video would be a great idea - I will see what I can do!
I prefer my baguette older model with the solid platinum rear case cover. Seems to me that glass is not as valuable as a solid platinum case back. The question is does the new version weigh less than the old version? I bet Rolex gave you a piece of glass to reduce the amount of platinum in the watch. That back piece is a big slab of solid platinum
What a nice looking watch lovely dial , I wish Rolex would do a display back on all their watches what a difference it makes . Thank you for the video mate outstanding, see you soon 👍🏻💥💥
The price is 66k so what do you mean when you say “it has to be signed off by Rolex at a few hundred thousand “ does that mean it cost Rolex that really to make it and so they are losing money when they sell every one they make?
Rolex didn’t do a good job selling that if grey market getting it straight away, whoever bought it clearly part of the problem flipping watches, and ruins dealers selling watches
If this platinum Daytona takes sign off by Rolex executives to get permission to buy it then Rolex Geneva must be in a rage seeing it on the grey market so soon! Somebody's head is going to roll into the Thames!
Stunning model mate, but I wouldn’t pay over retail for many watches in the current market. 👌🏻
Really is something special isn’t it 👌🏻

If Rolex was replacing the movement on this Daytona they could have at least used one with a date window - for all this money.
Buy yourself a Zenith Chronomaster Sport - Yoshida Special Edition - in white gold for around 15k and spend the money you've saved on a Porsche
Yes, yes it is.
