    I traded my m2 driver today for the mini driver which was average 260 off the tee and all over the place with it. With the mini driver I was average 275 and much straighter. Normal driver head is just too big for me and I hit a lot more fairways with my 3 wood. Best decision I’ve made with clubs.

    I've never left a RUclips comment, but I have to say that I just purchased one of these and it has revolutionized my game. I hit it as straight as my 3 wood, but to the distance of my driver. It is absolutely brilliant because I struggle so much with hitting the big stick straight. Thanks for the great video and thanks to TaylorMade for the great product!

    Yet again absolutely brilliant content, I used to play the Aeroburner mini, that was also very good but had a smaller head than the current offering, I'm very tempted to get fitted (never been fitted for a single club) and put one in the bag and lose my faithful cobra Max driver and 3 wood. In my opinion your testing is the most relevant on RUclips ... Thank you.

    Save your money and shorten the shaft of your current driver. I used the stock lenght and had trouble with the dispersion, my usual miss was a nast heel strike. Shortened the shaft so it playhed 44" instead of 45" and I hit the sweet spot almost every time now and my misses are due to a bad swing, not that I cant find the sweetspot.
    Awesome content bringing this out, good to see more averages from people you can relate to. My swing speed with driver is around 105-110 and not many youtubers are as slow or as fast as me so hard to find relatable content. Cheers mate!

    I’ve watched many of the videos regarding the mini driver. Never saw this one out there from years ago. Completely fits into my experimentation of clubs as a 12 HDCP. Because of your videos, I recently bought the 11.5 mini driver and absolutely love it. Primarily as a driver as you’ve stated.

    Cracking review by the 3 players and your self Andy. Few years ago I was really struggling with driver, my Pro suggested I try the SLDR Mini driver and I fell in love with it. These days it has replaced my 3 wood and I use it on some holes instead of the driver, where line and control are paramount. You can use it off the deck and it really comes into its own in the winter when you can play it straight off the mat. I’m sure you’re he new version is more advanced but I’m sticking with the earlier version.

    Just bought one and waiting for it to arrive. I got the 11.5 with stiff flex having a swing speed around 100mph.
    I have tried 11 drivers over the past 18 months and settled on the Ping G400SFT. The mini is an experiment, plus I like the look of the head. If I can use the mini both on and off the tee then it will use it at the range and when doing quick 9 holes with a sunday bag. Love this format of testing, could perhaps add some tuning for each player for us tinkers...

    I was hitting balls on the simulator with an old Taylor Made bubble shafted 9.5° driver that was about the size of a modern 3 wood. It went dead straight every time. My club head speed ramped up a bit. I would guess that was from less drag on the smaller head.

    Always look forward to this testing format and the mini driver looks to be an excellent club. Had problems with the driver off the tee and used a 2 wood to great effect. Now play the 5,3 and driver of the new Srixon model and wouldn't consider paying that amount to change.

    I'm still carrying my aeroburner mini driver 14 degree next to my M4 . For tight fairways or if my driver's off. Use it as my 3 wood off the tee.

  • @BrianSWG

    I love the way you bring on people with different handicaps. It is great to see a mix because the strike is quite different between a low handicap to mid to high handicap. That being said I have played mini drivers since the SLDR mini ( I played it till I cracked the face after gaming it for years and years ) and now moved to the Original mini. I struggled with toe hits on drivers and this has helped eliminate those. I dont believe I gave up and distance because I can hit the center almost every time now and if needed it is much easier to swing this harder vs a driver. I wish more companies made smaller driver heads and or more heads like this!

  • @7676ezra

    Great comparison. I just started back after over 10yrs. Always had trouble with driver and leaned towards a 13 degree 3w. Now my swing speed is also an issue for those clubs I built in my early 30's at 45yrs. old. I pretty much always leave the driver face open and the 3w, although I can rip it, comes off a low 200yd. bullet with 25yds. of run. I'm pretty excited about trying this club. My next lesson I'll see if the pro will let me bring the demo one into the launch monitor.

    I tried this and loved the club - couldn’t get one ahead of golfing holiday (tomorrow 01/05/19) so settled for lesson instead . . . I think all manufacturers will have a mini-driver out before you know it . . . it brings a consistency I lack in my driver

    • @briantreadwell2206
      @briantreadwell2206 5 лет назад

      Back off holiday, I decided to test the mini driver during a lesson . . . . . When a PGA pro is guiding you on correct swing plane, tempo etc you will deliver the club face correctly and the ball responds accordingly - I found my Callaway Rogue to be consistently longer then the TM mini . . . . perhaps the money is best spent on lessons to fix a defective swing and not on another club? That said. . . . . I still liked it

    I wonder what would happen if Ping released the G400 (445cc) with a 3-wood length shaft as a stand-alone product? I game the G400 Max and see no need to change from it (it's the best part of my game really), but the mini-driver concept is a great idea. Excellent video as usual Andy!

    • @fredlist7091
      @fredlist7091 5 лет назад

      @@stevencarrier5060 Hi Steven. No, it's a stock shaft in length and flex. Coincidentally, I just played 18-holes yesterday with rented clubs which featured a TM M3 driver. It reinforced my feeling that the Ping G400 Max is the best out there for no punishing off-center strikes. The M3 was fine for distance but really made you pay if you missed the center.

    • @stevencarrier5060
      @stevencarrier5060 5 лет назад

      Fred List thanks. I play the G. I have no complaints. I always choke down and don’t really have a problem with driver. Was going to upgrade to the 410. But I wanted to try a shorter shaft. 3 wood shaft in my driver was just a weird feeling. I tried it on range.

    Great stuff Andy. Love this Team Average stuff. Your results didn't surprise me having used the TM AeroBurner Mini in the past. Should this size head be as big as us average handicap golfers use. Leave the big heads to the Pros and low single handicap players. Would be an interesting test, mini shaft in an M5 or 6 and visa versa. Could you get the dispersion tighter with the mini shaft in the bigger head and or make it worse with the long shaft in the mini. You gotta do it Andy.

    I have a ping G400 max driver and replaced the shaft with the shaft from my 3 wood. This is 10 gms heavier but about 1.5 inch shorter making it very similar to the mini driver. Distance is the same as before but dispersion is much better and so much easier to hit. Try it and if it works for you, order a 3 wood shaft from Ping for about £70

  • @ianchisholm9215

    Hi Andy I type this as someone who has one ordered and had confirmation of dispatch tomorrow so quite excited now. Review great content good to see real golfers testing products. For me I used shot tracer the other day and found same as your testers my 3w off the tee on avg was same distance on avg as driver. Some of my driver shots were longer but the inconsistency and dispersion meant the 3w was much better option on avg. I have used ping stretch and in past mini driver ...it's only ego that pushed me into bagging the driver !

    Nice review, BUT... the show is called “average golfer” and the testers were off 6,11,18 (and the 18 looked like a decent ball striker!). The average club handicap is 18 and the avg for non club members is higher. So - if you’re gonna pick 3 - surely go for 10-12, 18 and 22-25?!? Just sayin’...

  • @johnnypenso9574
    @johnnypenso9574 5 лет назад

    Great review Andy but I don't think it's the club I think it's the length of the shaft. Take your (typical) 45-46" driver shaft and cut it down to 43.75" like the mini driver and you'll be amazed at how easy it is to hit. I went to 44" before the season last year and the difference was dramatic. Fairways hit went up by 20% and the misses were much closer to the fairway. Handicap went from 10 to 8. Important though to get it swingweighted as you'll go down in the C's with your swingweight by cutting 2" off the shaft. I see this mini driver as a 3 wood replacement, if anything, for those that don't hit the 3 wood off the deck. I have a TM Aeroburner 14 degree mini that I sometimes carry on the larger courses.

  • @wallstreetoneil
    @wallstreetoneil 5 лет назад +7

    What's old is new again. Frankly it's almost shocking it has taken this long. 43.5" was the standard driver length for about 100 years. With modern technology in the driver head and low spin driver golf balls, your 5 to 10 handicapper can hit this mini driver as long at Jack Nicklaus hit his 43.5" driver and won 18 majors. Add a 4 hybrid that you can hit 200 yards into a green with a decent angle of 50 degrees (Jack's old 3 iron) and you have literally given a handicap golfer 2 shots that Jack worked a lifetime to hit. I personally went down this rabbit hole 2 years ago and now play a 44.5" Taylormade M2 Driver and a 42.5" Callaway Epic Sub Zero Strong 3wood at 14.5 Degrees. I will never go back to 45 - 45.75" drivers again - just way too inconsistent. While the added distance is tempting, I'm 49 with a 102mph Driver swing speed and because I can center hit my driver at 2200rpms of spin, I carry it 260ish with a 20 yard roll - that leaves a modern 9 iron into a 420 yard Par 4 - or a 22 degree hybrid into a 480 yard US Open Par 4 - which I will never play.

    I started out using smaller head drivers even tho 460cc drivers were dominant at the time. I used a TM Ti 360 and a Titleist 983k because 460 cc drivers looked big and I could not imagine how I could square a big "spaceship" looking head. Finally, I graduated to a 460cc head a (Titleist 905r) and I was able to benefit for the big forgiving clubhead but I still think I was more accurate with the smaller clubhead. Today if the driver goes astray off the tee, I will pull out my 3 wood on the next hole and get back in the fairway!

    Why wouldn't it replace the 3 wood as well ? All the vlogs I've watched on this mini has been mostly positive as was yours. To my mind anyway, why would it NOT replace both the driver and 3 wood ? In that respect, I would have liked seeing your 11 and 18 handicapper hit it off fairway grass.

I had the Aeroburner Mini driver before this and had good success with it. Only problem was the high spin I got with it. Even with good shots I had a spin at 2300-2500 rpm. Even if the mini sub as a fairway wood for some, their should be other options off the fairway as you are dropping one club from your bag? It could be a nice test.

      Buy a used 2 or 3 year old driver, have the shaft cut down to 43.75", get it properly swingweighted and save yourself a couple of hundred dollars. The bigger head of the driver is more forgiving than any smaller headed club. It's the length of the shaft that is allowing testers to make better contact with the ball IMO, in my experience and in the shaft length testing I've seen around YT. Shorter shaft = better average contact = no distance lost and more consistent driving. A 45-46" driver is too long for the average mid to high handicapper.

    I have the Ping G400 3 wood Stretch. What a club. I almost every time outdrive others with a driver. And so consistent and straight.

      Ronald Westra do you still carry a driver?

    • @ronaldwestra8735
      @ronaldwestra8735 5 лет назад

      Yes but I hardly use it anymore. With the driver I only hit maybe 10 to 15 yards further but the dispersion is much larger. With the G400 3 wood Stretch I outdrive most of the people.

    Great video but how was he hitting it like 261yds if the whole driving range is 250yds

    • @briantreadwell2206
      @briantreadwell2206 5 лет назад

      The range is longer - the last marker is 250y but behind that is a fence (not measured how much further) I’m guessing behind the marker is not fairway style grass though

    I started using the mini driver because with a regular driver over 300-350 yards, I needed less distance on most courses.

    Can you do the same test with driver shaft at 44" or so, compared to 3 wood and current drivers. With same people testing. Pleeeeaaaseeee. And thank you. Great video.

    I am the worlds worst 8 handicapper, I have come down alot in the 4 years I have been playing golf at a club. Started at 22. I flit from my 4 iron off the tee or a 20 degree rescue as my driver is shocking if i used that off the tee i would still be a high handicapper as it put me in so much trouble. I know the future is lessons on my driving which I am currently doing with not much success, so as a temp measure I've just purchased a 16degree rescue club to hopefully give me a few extra yards off the tee. But after seeing your content I may just pop down and try this mini driver out , with a bit of luck we might click . Great content as always👍🏻🏌️‍♂️

      I found it more playable than a driver . . but it is a driver so the 3W is easier to hit . . . I only hit one and it had the classic fadey-slice

    Still an expensive club compared to a set of irons, wait till the price comes down to £200 then it's a viable buy. The price of drivers need to drop, people spending £450 on a driver it's insane. Better off spending money on a Scotty or top notch putter.

    Tried the Aeroburner Mini Driver. It was a novelty item & didn't last in my bag for a long time. My driver does the driver job better & my 3wood does the 3wood job better. No thanks.

      Complete opposite here. Been using the SLDR Mini driver for years now, replaced my new at the time R11 driver with it. I couldn't stand the look and feel of a shoe box on a stick. I've been over 300 yards with both drivers, but the fairways hit is what matters most to me. I tend to pull the heck out of my 3 wood, and play a nice fade with the mini. I will consider this club once the price drops a bit.
