Thank you for recruiting Ron as your average swing speed tester. We can all relate to the excitement he's showing when you find a driver you have confidence in.
Ronny is a great addition to the TXG team. Ron is more like the people whom I believe watch your channel for some of the best information you provide, thanks !
Love your testing with mid and high handicappers. Much more relatable for us not as gifted and Matt “the machine” Blois 😉
The fun part of getting fitted is taking your clubs outside and watching your newly acquired hang time. As a former low ball hitter cured by Chris at TXG , I can confess that I actually laughed out loud when I hit my driver at the range. It was so weird hitting high fades instead of bullet hooks 20 feet in the air. I’ve considered using a brown paper bag as a head cover this year, so my golf friends won’t know that I have a secret weapon.
Fascinating, it’s wonderful watching Matt crush shots , however these tests with guys that are more representative of average golfers is so valuable..😉🏌️⛳️🍻
Nigel Day glad you’re enjoying them Nigel, appreciate your support.
Definitely eye opening session here guys! Thanks for doing this and thanks to Ronny too!
Genius stuff guys; well done on addressing ‘confidence’...at last we see ‘the thing between the ears’ as key in equipment!
What a joy it is to see these kinds of fit, more performance for every type of golfer.
Loved this video. Reminded me of all the times the Manager of the retail shopped I worked in would yell at me for taking sleeves of various balls and marking them up for the Vector Launch monitor to fit customers back in the day.
I have the ping g410 sft and seeing how your closing the head has helped me a lot. Keep up the good work guys
watching your videos is part of my daily routine... by far the most informative youtube channel.
Always great info with an unbiased presentation!
Another great video. Always look forward to getting that notification of new videos from you guys. By far the most in depth golf equipment channel on you tube. I've learnt alot about my own game from watching you guys and how well you explain the details in your fittings.
Craig Dempsey cheers Craig, appreciate the support!!
I love the analysis that Ron made I can definitely relate with him
This format is very good, the time just flies by, which means it must be engaging me.
Glad to hear it!
Excellent. And this is why you do a fitting especially with the maestro. The more subtle differences such as confidence, consistency, height, flight of ball and tight dispersion come through with a modest increase in carry and total distance. You can then further refine with ball fitting.
I love that you went into this fitting thinking the TM Mini-driver was the answer and came away with a Ping G410+. Shows the value of a PXG fitting.
Love the video and keep up the great work!
Another great and informative video!
Amazing video glad you found a swing speed close to mine
I like the lighter shaft ,great content again .I love all technical aspects .
Excellent video.....
Ron's consistancy with the ping was greatly Improved over his original m2 and the misses seemed much more acceptable compared to where he started from .....
I was fit for a G410 plus the other week and have never hit a ball off the tee longer and more consistently. The sound and feel are amazing. Btw, the little bit at 17:19 is spot on.
I'm in the same boat. I got myself the g410 and it has been a powerhouse for me.
Great video! Leaves me wondering who if anyone will be fit into the mini driver. Not surprised he fit into the Ping their drivers are so solid!
I'll be seeing you guys soon!
Just echoing most of the comments, great to see a mid handicapper that most of us can relate to and take insight from
Hi, I have come back to watch this again 11 months later and understand the numbers much more now, because basicly I'm Ronnie but I prefer to tee up lower and still can't decide if a mini driver is for me. Being in the UK I can't come to yourselves and I haven't been for a fitting here. I love watching your channel, there's so much to learn I'll just keep watching, many thanks
This is a super helpful video. Glad I found this channel.
Biggest improvement is teeing the ball an inch lower than that first video...also it was nice to see giving him a closed Ping driver for accurate comparison to first video with closed mini driver.👍🤙
These boys are the best out there!
Been watching a ton of utubegolf..... enjoy this stuff as much as anything....gracias
Great information, relevant to me thank you
Great stuff guys.
I've been meaning to create a file filled with fitting tidbits from Ian/Matt. I've wondered what driver apex I should have (similar swing speed to Ron), and Ian mentioned that 75-85 feet is good for Ron. Ian added that your 6 iron apex should be similar to your driver apex. Priceless.
Re-watching this for the third time and only now asking myself "why?" The answer is of course that these fitting videos are a mine of info and I pick up a little bit more with each viewing. It allows us to see how a professional fitting should run, the sorts of things we should be thinking of and the questions we should be asking. Keep them coming, please. :) Ron is a gem too. As others have said, apart from seeming a really nice guy, we can relate to him. Thanks for sharing his journey and experience and your expertise.
Love the details and as I also don’t hit driver this may be an alternative, had four New drivers over the past five years and still use my 5metalwood as I can’t hit driver🤬
A great person to fit I think that could help a lot of people is like a young bomber mid handicap. But nonetheless the best channel to watch to actually learn about the clubs and become better informed. Thank you guys
Fantastic content as always. Takeaway is that I will only want to be fit using the best golf ball for me and not “practice” or range balls.
I always hope your first guess at a club head is wrong, so that we can get more side by side comparisons of drivers/irons for players. I also couldn't help but hope you would also have Ronnie test the MTBX vs the Chromesoft X when you mentioned the MGS testing.
Just made me want to get ball fitted. My good swings are closer to Ian’s but it’s really interesting to see how the different balls perform
You guys are really amazing at what and how you execute the fitting process. I’m curious to hear the specific journey each handicap(low, mid, & high) player is recommended from you. With fourteen clubs, the ball and the player’s swing seems like the precision in finding the best fit is a fairly lengthy process. Where do you normally begin once baseline swings are obtained? Is it top of the bag, the putter, or what the customer feels like working on? This is assuming the proper length club, grip, lie have previously been established. Thanks guys! Excellent channel!
Great news about a possible UK visit, please keep my details and if possible let me know, would love to meet you guys and do some testing
I’m enjoying this for sure. As a mini driver user I’m looking at going to a full-size driver. I did hit the same ping driver as Ronnie as well as an old used M4 and I didn’t see a big difference with my eye. A launch monitor and the balls I game would prolly be what I need as well.
I’ll be honest money is a factor when I’m deciding on which driver to buy. New or used....
I wish your Shop was near me. Nothing within 4 hours for a proper fitting for me!
Randall Pennington we can always help via Patreon Randall.
Can you do a video on the Hi-Toe/PM grind vs. traditional wedges? TaylorMade and Callaway claim that they launch lower and have higher spin, which is something that I would love to see you guys test. Thanks for all the great content!
Matt Kenrick it’s definitely on the agenda for this summer once we get outdoors.
Love seeing mid and high handicappers test this club, any future video testing launch with this club for a 110-115mph club head speed range?
I would definitely benefit from a full bag fitting I am currently saving to try to come out to see you from the UK
Peter Lund awesome Peter, would be great to meet you.
Always interesting to see what loft and head suits each individual player
Ronny is awesome!
I'd be really curious to fit Matt into the lower lofted one where you use his stock driver as baseline but you don't remove ANY shots, with the point being to see if a higher skilled high speed player could lose minimal distance but gain any accuracy via better striking.
I was correct in my chat - I don't understand the mini driver if there is a proper fit of a driver - which this video really showed. top notch.
I understand the need for a "mini driver" with a shorter shaft, smaller head and higher loft - e.g. a 3-wood - when you want to be safe when it is narrower, or dog leg or your normal driver isn't working.
I play a 4-wood which is supposed to take me about 210 - 215 meters. My dispersion with that club is much less in comparison to my driver - in particularly if I am a bit off balance with it. I have managed to squeeze my driver to a good 240/245 meters carry. The longest so far is 276 meters (303 yards) including roll.
I have an Epic 3-wood with loft 13.5 degrees. That is my "mini driver" if and when needed.
@@johnairey4171 hear you but do not agree. Ron went to his coach and had some exercises/talks and suddenly the "mini-driver" was gone and he was focusing on a new driver. The difference was suddenly the dispersion. The dispersion was the key issue last time when he tested the mini driver to his then worse driver shots. This video showed very well why the shaft plays an issue. The dispersion is tighter with the new ping driver but distance is same with Rons older M2. Higher loft in ping as it was 13 degree loft so you are quite right in your comment regarding the HT driver. But - it was not a shorter shaft in the video. Thanks for comment.
Amazed Ping hasn't sponsored Matt yet. Congrats to Ron on finding a confident Driver.
Hi guys another great video. I was wondering I'm in the process of purchasing the Cobra King F8 one length cluybs. I have the 7i which I got first as the tester, thinking if I can hit this I can hit the rest of the set. As it stands I hit a solid 155-165 yard with what feels like an easy swing (I think swing speed is approx 90mph) What recommendations would you have for a fairway wood or driver that would compliment the one lengths. I prefer s shorter shaft length and having hit the Cobra F9 driver that felt like pushing a sail through the wind. Any suggestions would certainly be great. Keep up the great videos
Ronnie. What a lovely bloke.
Forgiveness was a big issue. The bad swings with the M2 resulted in bad shots; not like the Ping.
Great second test, looking to go see my pro and text the G410. I have a stiff heavy speeder shaft but struggling with driver. Going to ask for a 40-50grm shaft and see the results. Thank you. Will you ever visit the UK?
We hope to visit the UK at some point Duncan!
Lol bruh came back with a vengeance mane! 🤣
GREAT POINT ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO GET PROPERLY FITTEF FOR A DRIVER USING RANGE BALLS.I WOULD RATHER GET FITTED ON THE DRIVING RANGE BUT I DO NOT THINK THEY WOULD LET ME HIT DIFFERENT MAKES OF BALLS ON THE RANGE.THEY MIGHT DO IT ON THE MONITOR INSIDE BUT I DO NOT LIKE HITTING BALLS THAT WAY.MAYBE IT IS JUST ME.GREAT VIDEOS.
I know this is one year old. I purchased a mini driver 11.5 and for my clubhead speed (85-86 MPH) I reache just below 200 carry and the rest roll. So best results are with mini driver. I always had a 2 wood of some kind in my bag, (Great Big bertha for ex). I purchase another Mini Driver on sale at Golf Town, regular 13.5. Of course I think it will be a better fit as my launch angle is a little low with the 11.5, and I hate the looks of theclosed face when I adjust it uop. You make grat reviews. I am now a senior and kind of gave up on Drivers 45 inches. In my case, hope is not a strategy :)
I were your 36 000th subscriber!
Fantastic video as always although you just cost TM a sale. I need to get fit instead of changing drivers all the time.
Call him Steve Stricker with those locked wrists... nice hittin brother!
ANY video u guys post are brilliant and a great learning/teaching tool ... BUT can i ask who is coaching Ron .... and WHY that coach is not assisting him in "caving" in his left knee to get and stay behind the ball as hitting the driver?!?! Seems half useless fitting him to a driver if his position as a hitter is totally off..... get his swing in order... then fit him... if u ask me. BUT again.... great video and much appreciated ;)
Funny how even with similar numbers from M2 to G410 initially, Ronny seems more free to whale away with the Ping. Just like the reminder that golf is more about making the best misses than the one great swing
drroger98 very true, confidence goes a long way!!
So well said...
Good video. One question why not use shorter shaft in his driver?
I have a 52 inch driver with a graphite 300 cc head , regular flex shat swing speed of 80 and it goes 280 yards and straight with a slight right bias of ten yards
Do you feel if you make the shaft shorter it will help with accuracy consistently?
Could you add the link to the previous video in the description? Thaanks
ruclips.net/video/GHtQHRUGaG8/видео.html
@txg What shaft length is best here. 3W or Driver?
Love the idea, but can’t you achieve most of this by having a shorter fitted shaft still with a larger head?
Way to go Ronnie!! I can see that handicap going to single digits this year!
Really enjoying Rocket Ronny's journey!!!!!
He's definitely going to be in the fairway more often and down there. Definitely wouldn't want to play him in match play. Ronnie is far too consistent now
@@austinlauer1910 He's definitely Rocking those drives!🏌️♂️💥⛳
@@austinlauer1910 I'm not sure where Whisker is, I'm just a little worried about him myself. He posted a comment about 2 weeks ago (which I commented on), but I haven't come across him since. So whether he is just busy, on vacation or has fallen out with us I don't know. But like you, I miss his humour and wit, hopefully, he reappears soon so that the 3 Musketeers are reunited.
I hope that your Golf is going well? I have my first Comp on Saturday so I am hoping that I hit some form
@@banditbaker1675 Hopefully he's just busy and will return soon. Golf has been struggle so far this season. Good luck on your comp 👍
@@banditbaker1675 Just realized that I accidentally deleted my original question to you. RUclips was glitching on me.
Why no hmt with the ping? Especially with Ronnie, like myself, strike and face to path moving around.
It doesn't just suck getting fitted with range balls it sucks hitting them. They fall out of the air or dive left or dive right...or dive left then right.
Can’t unsee the cat face on that mini driver.
I like the H&K sticker on the GC Quad. Ha
With a moderate swing speed 90-95mph the hard balls seem to perform better at normal temperatures. Would that still apply on cold days when the temp is below 10 Deg C, as I am guessing most of the testing is done at around 20 Deg C. I'm guessing Ian doesn't miss the feeling of thinning a 2 Iron on a cold morning in Scotland.
Just wondering, have you tried it with a regular length shaft? Wanted to know how it performs.
How much of a genuine difference is there between a 15* 3 wood and mini driver. Does the bigger head offer more forgiveness, because I would have to figure unless you can get the CG low enough, the 3 wood would be easier off the fairway
Where do you guys operate from? I don't know of any fitting centre nearby to me that would be as in depth as you and would love to find my perfect driver /shaft.
Marlin sjh we have stores in Toronto and Burlington.
I had picked up on a comment which mentioned Canada but wasn't sure...Unfortunately I'm in the UK.
My local fitting centre barely has the digital equipment to analyse a swing never mind the range of equipment you seem to have at hand to choose from and after I had a 'gapping session' there was none the wiser.. The only thing I took away from the advice was that I didn't need any extra clubs and I 'can' swing my 3 wood at 109mph...it was a pretty poor experience.
I have a ping rapture it acts like a Threewood and a mini driver Best club ever hit
What setting on the ping hose g410 closes the face?
The + settings
Awesome content as usual! Was there a reason you put Ronnie in the balls that you did? Did you guys try moving the loft down to 11 degrees (making it open)? Ronnie seems able to close the face to the path. Did you adjust lie on the driver at all?
Loft down wouldn't help Ronnie, he needs more spin and elevation. Lie was at standard. Ronnie tends to miss right more often than left. Ball choices were initially for more ball speed, and then a bit more spin with the RB Tour X
TXG Tour Experience Golf thanks for the response!
Matt, follow up on the live. I don't remember which video you were actually swinging righty.
ruclips.net/video/G7LGlJNMuC8/видео.html
@@clubchampionmedia thanks. I will rewatch it.
Matt, rewatched the video. Have to say your right hand swing is a whole lot better than if I try to swing left handed 😂
Put the G410 in the bag Ronnie!
Thanks...It has been ordered with great excitement
so what comes to mind......COBRA F9 MINI driver with rails.........the f9 was by far the best driver ive ever hit off the deck. low on the face on the f9 was remarkable off the deck or the tee...put some rails on it and you have a perfect mini driver.....
Are you guys able to explain to me, how the "Mini Driver" is not just a 2-wood?
Cheers!
It's basically a 2 wood
H&K sticker on your GCQuad?
I don't understand why loft increases when you close the head?
It's changing loft that causes the head to close or open a bit when using a loftsleeve.
It's to do with lie angle. When you increase loft the head closes but sits slightly more upright and vice versa
I can understand the driver change bc of the consistency and confidence change for Ron, but a Pro V1x for his swing speed? What other balls did he test, if any?
Mizuno RB Tour X, both performed well for him
As long as the range is long enough...I sneak a couple real balls in to practice on range to see real results...driving with a parking brake on doesn't tell me how well a car accelerates...
Mizuno Ronnie
I would donate a kidney to have a fitting by Ian .
Ah a 2 wood test.... ;)
Thanks guys .....
I think golfers with ron's swing speed should stay with big forgiving drivers...the mini makes no sence for someone with his hcp!
But please do a comparison with a lower hcp who would actually benefit from the mini! 🤘🏻
So, high lofted mini driver with shorter shaft isn’t that a 3 wood.
Cliff Burt no!! They produce very different spin conditions. Mini is super low spin.
Just weird to see 5 degrees up, 13 degrees of loft, but 9 degrees of launch…
So much for mini drivers then. Multiple RUclipsrs are coming to the conclusion that they went out of fashion for a reason.
What's to stop a manufacturer from making a "Maxi 3-wood"? Wouldn't that make more sense so they can get around the COR limitations of a driver?
reidthompson1825 3 woods are still governed by a COR limit whereas drivers are limited by time of impact CT
@@keef5 Interesting. Thank you.
Get fit if you can thats for sure! If you do play a shorter length driver most people for get that you need to fix the swing weight!! every .5 inches you cut you change the swing weight by 2 or 3. you would need to add weight to the head! If you order a club from a major manufacture they can cut it and weight it for you if you would like. And dont forget Ricky plays a 43.5 inch driver and crushes it!!
