when i was learning russian, my Duolingo was obsessed with horses. there were SO many sentences about horses. the one i most vividly remember was "this horse is a painter, not a teacher."
I was learning Klingon, and the phrase "mev tlq" came up multiple times. Seeing Zari's eyes light up and Vikram clap when I correctly translated it was especially concerning considering "mev tlq" means: "The heart stops." I suppose it makes sense for Klingon, but the character's reactions made it seem like they were involved with the stopping of the heart.
Some of my favorite sentences I’ve gotten from duolingo Spanish: - “I want to see your pretty face” - “my feet don’t listen to me” - “are you familiar with Shakira? She knows how to sing very well but you don’t” - “everyone has to die” - “nothing is going to change” - “your parents are worried now” - “you never do things right” - “I have two knives” - “your dogs are pretty”
I had an entire unit talking about a person named ''Sofia'' and ''Alexander'', and they had a very strange story. I don't remember it clearly, but I know that they were on a ship, she had a precious silver necklace which fell into the ocean, and alexander looked like the man on a poster on the walls. I got very intrigued.
I got “excuse me, that is my sister” “I worship the god of death” “our goldfish is in hell” “that’s not how you die” “there is a body in the fridge” “you are dead, welcome to heaven” and the weirdest one “your doctor is at the zoo and has broken into the monkey exhibit”
Let me list some phrases I have encountered: 0:19 Dutch: Pardon, ik ben een appel (Excuse me, I am an apple) 1:00 Indonesian: Pisang itu tidur (That banana sleeps) 2:36 German: Ja, die Eule ist klug und nett (Yes, the owl is smart and nice)

These sentences make literally negative sense. 😂😂 I had some ridiculous sentences because I'm using Duolingo to learn Romanian, and it gave me sentences that said, he won by stabbing him in the leg. Yes, and while sometimes I think a bit of surprise can help one learn, I think sentences that don't make sense don't help at all. We need to be able to comprehend in order to learn.
