6.7" of ground clearance. So close to a wagon. Keep in mind the "lifted" buick regal tourX was 5.8". Thats now a proper car by comparison. But closer than the 8.1" on the outback and Volvo V60 cross-country GR version lowered to 5" and some form of iforce max powertrain would be a spicy family hauler Spicy in the way kids think mint toothpaste is spicy, but still something
Guys thanks for this excellent review! You answered exactly what I wanted to know about this vehicle. I currently own a 2017 RAV4 hybrid. I’m 6’5”. When I first bought that car getting into and out of it wasn’t a problem. My joints have stiffened as I am turning 65. I wanted to trade in for something easier to get in and out of. You perfectly addressed that, and the ride height! I was thinking about going with a Camry XLE, but I think that Crown Signia will be a better fit. I truly appreciate you both. I’m glad I subscribed! 🫡
As a RAV4 Prime owner, hoping this comes with Toyota's PHEV drivetrain at some point in the future, 300+ HP and plug ability would be a great option for this vehicle.
Phev would make it very heavy and it's already much heavier than Rav4 (almost 600-800lbs) and also the price would go beyond 60k and in that price range it should compete with a lot of luxury cars. But at least if they put that hybrid max engine with 300+ hp it would be great.
I'm a current Lexus IS owner who was looking to move up to a Lexus SUV and now that I've discovered the Crown Signia I'm no longer considering a Lexus. This car ticks all the boxes now that Toyota is improving their interiors. I can't wait to test drive it. Great review, thanks guys!
I've actually been waiting for this to start showing up at dealerships so I can test-drive. I'm currently looking for a replacement for my 12-year-old Outback.
My first 4 vehicles were a Volvo wagon, a 300zx, a VW Golf, and a 1985 RX7. all were hatchbacks. Now I have an RX8, an is300, an E28 533i, and I'm shopping for a z3. So I went from all hatchbacks to all trunks. One thing I've noticed, I used to be MUCH better about not leaving things in my trunk indefinitely. Out of sight, out of earshot when I take the corner, out of mind.
Hi, from Japan!! I’m glad that it seems you two were not involved in other dangerous drivers again in San Diego. The name of the car is Crown Estate here in Japan. It’s funny it happens often car names are different in each countries. Well, 4 types of Crown exist here in Japan. One of these named Crown Sports is like more sports styled SUV so there is possibility that the car would be adopted in U.S. instead of GR Crown Signia.
@@tinhinnh A "Wagon" in the UK is an "Estate car". Also in the UK, a large area of enclosed private land with a large house in the middle of it is also called an "estate". A deceased person's assets and belongings are called their "estate". These terms are rarely confused or misused. Here in Japan I have a Toyota Crown Athlete Estate, all these English words are written on the tailgate and to the best of my knowledge have not confused anyone despite not being written in the local native language.
they're going to sell millions of these. a good looking exterior without being "polarizing or weird", beautiful interior, reasonable price and a reliable Toyota hybrid. what else can you ask for
It is a wagon and history tells us wagon does not sell as well as SUV. The Signia is a lifted Camry wagon and it also reassembles the old wagon based Venza
Spiritual successor to the original Venza is the hybrid Outback Subaru won't make. That interior would have been home in a Lexus 5 years back. Toyota did well here.
Thank you for calling it a wagon! As a big fan of wagons and hatchbacks, I will never understand the aversion to the term since they are so practical and way more fun to drive than SUVs. I would seriously consider it if it weren't a CVT . Reliability concerns aside, I just don't like the way they feel/drive.
This has an eCVT, not a regular CVT. They're completely different, and eCVTs are actually one of the most robust and reliable transmissions you can get today. I've not driven one, but I have heard that they feel smoother and less rubber-bandy than CVTs.
Our family had a 1995 Toyota Camry Wagon V6 LE. The Camry Wagon had a rear facing 3rd row which as a kid growing up in one was like luxury. Always a wagon fan ever since (currently driving a 2002 IS300 SportCross).
I'm gonna wait for the refresh of this for the 5th Gen hybrid. This is coming after the Camry so they could have done it. I'm in love man. The price is a bit of a problem for me but I'll start saving for that bigger deposit
Had 7 Subarus including 4 Outbacks, one Crosstrek(least favorite), one Forester, and my original one the 1993 Impreza front wheel drive which I used studded snow tires on and it was great. I am considering this Crown Signia due to size, wagonlike bearing, awd, hybrid, and the fact that the closest Subaru dealer is 2 plus hours in every direction, but there is a Toyota dealer within 50 miles. I am like the grandparents from Calgary... but it is a little too rich for my blood and not sure about tires. I run all terrrain tires on my 2020 Outback with 75,000 miles. Bring on the Outback hybrid soon Subaru or I will have to seek alternatives as we are a one vehicle family living in the middle of nowhere and do not want to break down. Original cars in the 80's were Hondas but their CRV did not have a good enough AWD system and slipped in snow and got stuck in mud that the Subaru would have had no trouble with. Also had Civics and a Honda Wagon using studded snow tires in Vermont but now in altitude of New Mexico. A little concerned about ground clearance as well. We do not always plow or shovel our road in every snowstorm and it can have quite a bit of snow that we plow our Outback through just barely...
I wonder if I could nudge my boomer parents toward a base (XLE) Crown Signia. They have a 2014 Forester but are increasingly hybrid-curious and wouldn't mind something quieter and more refined. I also like the newest CR-V Hybrid for them, but knowing my parents, they'll probably end up in their third consecutive Forester without so much as a test drive.
I’d love to see a direct feature-to-feature, spec-to-spec, performance-to-performance, and comfort-to-comfort comparison, between this and the 2025 Camry XLE/XSE.
A GRown Signia could be really interesting to enthusiasts, potentially in more ways than the Kona N was. If it could still be around $50k I'd actually buy it too.
Now let's just wait half a decade or so for the revision to fix the excessive wind noise around the a-pillars and the redesign of the lower front door seals to keep doors free from mud and slush deposits.
I’m all for more wagons. If Mazda took their CX-70/90 platform and made a RWD based AWD I6 wagon I’d be even more excited though. Would love to see you guys review the V60 Polestar engineered wagon. I think it’s the only not “cross country” version sold today.
Audi, Mercedes, and Volvo are the only brands I know that still sell true wagons… not jacked up in ride height ones, but just normal everyday wagons. The Outback has turned into an SUV, they even market it as one on their website. This is probably the closest thing to a wagon from a mainstream brand.
Mercedes fugly wheel well plastic cladding (All-Terrain) ruined their wagon for North America. Trying to make look like an SUV. Wagons are so practical and handle way better than SUV's.
My first car was an ‘89 Camry Wagon with a V6. I loved it, it was such an unassuming looking thing, but it could haul a ton of stuff and it could sure rip when needed.
i will keep my gla45 for myself and push my wife to buy this "suv" as her car and our family road trip car 😉 now we have two "suv" at home that she approves.
I remember when the Toyota Venza first came out I checked it over, and realized it was just an Avalon wagon. Toyota replaced the Avalon with the crown, so this follows logically
I like this car and I'm happy we getting wagons but this car has the same problem of why most of wagon lover don't buy or consider the outback as a wagon. The SUV like front end makes this thing looks like a grand highlander more then a actual wagon like the Audi Allroad, Mazda 6 wagon, Subaru Levorg, Volvo V60 etc.
Aren’t you paying more for what is essentially a camry ? This is over 4000 pounds with a few more horses than a camry and ecvt? How is it a good deal paying an extra 10k for few horses maybe 8 horses and a heavier slower car ?
Yeah. Wagons are coming back. Volvo and Subaru kept them in the States but bring back more options. Hope Mazda follows. How many SUV and CUV actually go off dirt roads?
I have owned a 2004 Saab wagon since 2008 (paid $7900 MSRP north of $37,000 new), now has 174000 miles. 2.3 liter turbo engine still runs strong leather, sunroof, handles great, very comfortable. Due to being outdoors in S FL sun it needs; a few dings to be repaired, a paint job, drivers seat leather, ac repair... all in ~ $5K to put it right and it would run circles around that $40K plus pig
could you lift this ever so slightly? I am just thinking about putting some slightly more aggressive tires on this and having a luxe stealth adventure vehicle. Just thinking out loud. Don't shoot me.
I don't like the weird Crown "sedan" that we have in the states, I wish that car never existed and we just got the real sedan that the Japanese market has. This Signia is definitely much nicer and I hope we get the other Crown CUV.

The car companies are laughing their way to the bank.
This has double the range of every EV in existence with the added advantage of being able to fill up the tank in 2 minutes max. Not to mention much better build quality and materials than any of the EVs you just mentioned.
Paul, I’m surprised at you. Why would a Lexus buyer choose a Lexus version of this car? Because the Lexus buyer has never set foot in a Toyota dealership once in their life. Or if they have, they never intend to again. Toyota could take that car exactly as it is, change the badge, and sell it for $3000 more at the Lexus dealership. People will pay that much just for the badge. Lexus buyers are not typically as vain as Audi or Mercedes or BMW buyers but they often care about escaping the utilitarian image of Toyota. They want to show off that they are not only pragmatic but also will pay more money for finer things.
Lexus is a humble brag. except my Lexus my Lexus is just cool it’s got an in-line six double wishbone front suspension and manual transmission limited slip rwd differential find me another sedan that will do that for me thanks goodbye.
Toyota make good cars, trucks and SUVs but i feel like they never look or feel nice enough to justify the price. I've never owned one, but that is basically why. I guess I just don't like Toyotas.

There is a Camry wagon, in that same color, just down the street from me. It's in good shape, no real rust showing. It won't die, it seems.
As a RAV4 Prime owner, hoping this comes with Toyota's PHEV drivetrain at some point in the future, 300+ HP and plug ability would be a great option for this vehicle.

You guys are hilarious! I think y'all should get a Signia and GR-it-up for Toyota. #AnotherProjectCar 😀 Thanks for posting!

Back lights are very Jaguars F Pace…. But I love it it will sell and Toyota will send back the Crown sedan back home , need more cars like this !
is it a camry wagon or highlander sport
Too bad Toyota isn't doing the 300hp V6 anymore, would he great with this and a couple inches lower.
Good review! I bought one in the bronze color. I Iove it!
So it's the second generation of the Venza that we deserve whereas the second gen Venza is really just a relaxed styled RAV4.
best thing to happen to the crown, getting rid of price Andrew. 90's Camray wagon h.. yea
The color comes across as a dirty blue. Ive seen it in all three and i think its better in red - personal opinion

A GRown with 400 hp? Right in the “Sweet Swath” of power.
We need to start using this term! Thank you!!
I think Toyota nailed it as far as features, functions and benefits go. Looks are subjective and apparently expensive.
The sedan version needs a new face and it also needs a hatch.... so kinda what the Signia is now that I think about it lol

At this price, it should have the iforce max engine if they insist on it having a 4 cylinder.

Slap a LC500 engine under the hood.

The crown sedan is the ugliest new car on the market. This is not bad at all.
Please let us buy one painted like a Tokyo taxi
I thought The Crown is good looking.Wish it had more horsepower though.
Ok now bring over the actual Crown sedan

I hear CVT drone during the test drive . . . no thanks
I hate that I kind of like this.
why ?
As a wagon owner, this is just a suv😂
With those tyres that would explode if you go over a tiny pea sized pebble, that's not a wagon... Neither an SUV...
It identifies as an SUV. No matter how its looks may suggest otherwise.
I WANT THE SEDAN😂I DONT WANT A WANGON!!!!😢

The Equinox EV is bigger than this “midsize SUV”.
5th. Generation. Hybrids.
Gr it.😂
Toyota make good cars, trucks and SUVs but i feel like they never look or feel nice enough to justify the price. I've never owned one, but that is basically why. I guess I just don't like Toyotas.
You're the outlier.
Yet another crossover that will be marked up and eaten up by the entire millenial public
Ugh, that engine sound.
Don't like it. I'll keep my Outback. Need the ground clearance for Montana back roads.
Hybrid is the way to go as it gives you instantaneous torque and that is where this Crown will steal sales from Subaru whose 2,5 lt NA engine is anemic
It's a crown, where is the crown logo?
I do wish it had the crown logo. If I buy one of these, one of the first things I do will be to swap out the Toyota badges with the crown badges from Japan.
