  • A 3-1 win for Liverpool in the Goodison derby in September 2001. Everton took an early lead through Kevin Campbell but the reds struck back with goals from Steven Gerrard (followed by a goal celebration that probably didn't do much to win him any blue admirers!) Michael Owen (penalty) and John Arne Riise (giving rise to song that's often assumed to be about his free-kick against United a few weeks later).
Thanks to Matt (wolves76) for this video.

That Gerrard goal is really underrated. the way it spins right in the top corner is so satisfying to watch.. and the celebration makes it even better, legendary stuff

Yup, the way it curls was really superb.
But i had to imagine that the players are in the way of the keepers view, thats why he couldn't do much until it sped past him.

Great goal by Gerrard. What a pass by Gazza to Campbell if only he had finished that

I went to the game with few of my buddies. There were plenty of us Liverpool fans among the blue noses. Stevie G scored his screamer right in front of us. Great memories.

I remember the "going down" chants when the Ev went a goal up - We'd lost our last two league games. This got us back on track :)

The comment says "year" not "season" so it is correct, although you're right that it was the previous season.

For purely a technical perspective, it’s Gerrard’s masterpiece imo. To hit across the keeper with such power from that angle will never happen again and could only be Gerrard.
