A week after Liverpool players starred in England's 1-5 win away in Germany in a World Cup Qualifier. John Gregory's Villa went to Anfield to pick up a memorable victory in a game which Steven Gerrard saw red. Dion Dublin's bullet header fired Villa in front in the first half. Liverpool drew level when Steven Gerrard's header was adjudged to have crossed the line from a Liverpool corner. Villa retook the lead through Lee Hendrie after Dion Dublin's miss kick fell nicely for Hendrie to finish. Liverpool then went down to 10 men after Steven Gerrard was sent off for a reckless tackle on George Boateng. Villa got a third through Darius Vassell to cap off a memorable afternoon for the travelling Villa faithful.

Hadn't seen this one before. I'm a Liverpool fan. Gerrard's red is one of the most shocking tackles I've seen!
Gerrard has gone on to be a shocking gaffer
What a great group of players and characters we had back then. Schmeichel, mellberg, Southgate, merson, Taylor, Dublin, hendrie
Alpay was good for us before he went nuts too
I remember a couple of years before this match, Villa were topping the table with Mike Gregory…..
@@MrMallum you mean john gregory.
@@ryancarlo9328 haha! Yes! John Gregory was a Darts 🎯 player I think 😂
The worst tackle i have seen in 40 years!
i've seen this kind of tackles when leg break in half
One dirty b*****d. Absolutely awful challenge. Lucky the lad was okay.
Dion dublin one of the best striker in premiership i have ever seen...
Seriously?
Nice joke
I was there. What a great day! Great atmosphere in our end
6:38 - One of the worst tackles I've ever seen. And that came from my favourite football player!
SICKENING, AND INEXCUSABLE.
Could of easily snap the player leg
Yet shite fans will have you believe he was an angel. One dirty bastard. Did it to Campbell and Naismith in derbies. Could have finished the lads career.
Terrible tackle by Gerrard. One of the worst I've seen.
Like a Bull at a Gate, many talents, but no sense of responsibility.
That gerrard tackle. Awful stuff.
I was at the game I swear I actually heard botangs leg crack
All he was doing was harnessing his inner Roy Keane. Gerrard was very raw here.
how loud was the crack?
@@scottjohnevans97 fuck him--what about Botang's RAW leg ? inexcusable, for such a talented player,
The kid isn’t learning.
Solid Villa team - just wish Merson and Dublin had been a few years younger.
Fucking hell what was Gerard thinking!
If only managers were like Ron Saunders! Great Man! And yes, Gerrard was a dirty player.
'fraid so. Great skills ,marred by bad temperament. So unnecessary.
Here after the Aston Villa 7 - 2 Liverpool result in 2020. Lol!
That tackle deserved two red cards. Shocking. Btw how slow was Hypia? Jeez. 😅😇
I was there. What a day
Well they definitely walked home alone that night....Liverpool fans leaving early...priceless
7:08 he was lucky that leg didnt break in half - that should be month ban - at least
I was at this game I heard that leg go kids today dont know football like it used go be and it used to be worse then this in the 80s
dreadful tackle
That and roy keanes tackle souness tackle some of the worst i have ever seen
Hendrie reeled away after that goal like the players do when you score on FIFA 2005
Looking back on this Gerrard must be ashamed of that. Probably the worst tackle I've seen in the last 30 odd years.
what about keane on alfe haaland or son on gomes
He was always a thug
@@humbo1063Son on Gomes was more bad luck than anything--it was a challenge from behind, but the injury came from Gomes flying into his teammate. it wasn't a *good* tackle, obv, but it wasn't in the league of Keane on Haaland. you might argue that there was an element of bad luck here, too, because as someone pointed out below, Gerrard's foot catches the top of the ball and flies up into Boateng's knee. (of course, if you don't come flying in like a lunatic, you don't run the risk of such things happening.)
the worst i've ever seen was Thatcher on Mendes-you couldn't even really call it a tackle, it was just flat-out assault. as far as actual tackles go, i'd say Dan Smith on Diaby. malicious, needless, in the 90th minute, and basically ruined Diaby's career.
@@evilotis01 thatcher on mendes was insane. I’ve seen it a couple of times, but it is just assault
@@humbo1063 it was genuinely disgraceful. do that on the street and you end up in jail-and rightly so.
2:20 damn, they don't make headers like that any more
The tackle wasn't actually as malicious as it looks. Play back 07:07 at 0.25x speed - Gerrard's foot was off the ground, yes, but only slightly. His foot catches the top of the ball, causing it to fly up suddenly and making this tackle seem much worse than it should have been.
Are you seriously trying to downplay one of the worst fouls the premier league’s ever seen🤦🏻♂️
If you’re being sarcastic I apologise😅
@@i_know_youre_right_but I stand by what I said. The ball causes Gerrard's foot to leap up.
@@FiveFourTo moron
Liverpool fans leaving early to nick cars
Debiut Jurka Dudka :)
Remember this being a few days before 9/11
I'll never forget what I was doing that day, and how I was informed and who by. She died the following year, an even greater shock, for me.
Today Villa beat Liverpool 7-2
Liverpool has the worst announcer ever.
Man City’s awful as well
Carragher was so overrated
Lot of salty and delusioanl Villa fans in the comment section
How do you work that one out?
You must be a supporter of a dirty player
Stevie lad great tackle son😂😂👍
@Mark Cooke Dirty racist fascist. Well done boy.
@@paultokjian7915 You both, make decent Liverpudlians, cringe with embarrassment.
