I am surely not the only one who’s been inspired by this video. So many tasty grooves in here. Been focusing on Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms lately on the drums and I am constantly referencing this video to see how it should be done. Thank you!

I don't get why people say "Latin music." It's like saying "American music." There are hundreds of styles of music in the U.S., and there are probably just as many in Central and South America. This is Afro-Cuban drumming. Or "salsa" drumming.
+Michael Pluznick Thank you! Well this is an older video. It has been a couple of years now and have come a long way. I'll try to upload more videos this summer
Thanks for the upload. Your video helps me to determine genres for jamming purposes. I had noticed that also there isn't a lengthy Bongo Bell pattern available on you tube for the reason. It would be good if there was longer sample to play along too.
Great video. I'm keeping this one to use as a reference. As for the people who had negative things to say, I'd love to see them do a better job at this - I'm sure they couldn't.
It's probably easiest if you focus on the rhumba clave. Once you identify the clave, you can see that his right foot only ever plays the traditional "tumbao" rhythm. And his hands just freestyle over the top of those two things. The guy's got skills.
Oh crap that is you ! I thought I know a guy from Minneapolis that looks like that dude! Nice to hear you play set! Thanks for putting up with me that night I want to start working on this stuff since I found out what little I know maybe I could get a lesson or two?
Markus, fantastic. What a great resource this video is. I am the Adjunct Drum & Percussion Instructor at Notre Dame. I just talked to your dad at ND via Zoom and he enlightened me to your fabulous videos. These are so good and educational too. I have some woodshedding to do. I will search for some of your other videos.
don't over-thinking about it. Just do it :)) same as "Siros Vaziri" (look on FB. if you'll do the same (with many kinds of rhythms and styles - it would be amazing
🙏👏. Saludos desde Chile🇨🇱
Really cool video! I'm practicing independence with claves on my feet for improvisation using the sincopation. Do you have a book where you learned all the rythms? I know most of the latin rythms by learning them in songs. You seem to be playing and improvising a little bit, I'll be using this video to practice more :)
Yeah, sonor prolite kit, gavin harrison protean 12" snare, ride cymbal is a 22" crescent vintage, big crash is a meinl 20" extra dry crash, LP woodblock, cowbells, and a cascara wedge on the low tom (don't sell these anymore)
Hey that's nice playing. Could you tell me what the phases do you use for the cascara? Or maybe I can find them in some books... I am a drummer who likes Latin and Afro music!

Yea how did it went?
Definitely elements of Antonio Sanchez and Horacio Hernandez 🥁 in there. Great job 👏👍
I learned from watching this genius since five years ago.
Thank you your the best at this , cause I make us learned it easy.
That was so clean . Perfect timing and spacing all the way through . Love that kit also .
i never knew until now how complicated latin was
NOT Latin but Cuban drumming.
I don't get why people say "Latin music." It's like saying "American music." There are hundreds of styles of music in the U.S., and there are probably just as many in Central and South America.
This is Afro-Cuban drumming.

maestro excelente resumen de los ritmos afrocubanos que nos vuelven locos a los bateros! !!! Saludos desde la Patagonia !!!!!
Wonderful. How can some one not "like" this?!

The best afrocuban drum video ! Thanks!
Amazing playing! Very inspiring!
over my head at 6:00 and on - starts to sound randomy. means Im gonna listen more thanks for uploading
haha randomy! How I feel when I hear Horacio El Negro play. But it's all about knowing where you are in the clave you are.
this is the drumming video that has amazed me in a while, now i have ideas of a drum solo..thanks man!
very nice man, loving that independence
this is my favourite style of drumming hands down
such complex rhythms requiring higher limb independence. I love A
fro-Cuban rhythms
Very nicely done.
great 4 way combination Markus
Great job, Mark!
Yeah buddy!!!! I'm working grooving with your rythms... :)
Thanks for the upload. Your video helps me to determine genres for jamming purposes. I had noticed that also there isn't a lengthy Bongo Bell pattern available on you tube for the reason. It would be good if there was longer sample to play along too.
You are so talented! This is helpful. Thank you so much for sharing.
Poucas vezes encontrei um bom material pra analisar. Meu parabéns. If you don't understand, in your language. GOOD JOB MAN.
Great Job dude! Solid independance
Best Drumming style ever.

Thats awesome dude !
Holy shit that kit sounds amazing.
Super tasty!!! 😀 Do you have a transcript of these rhythms or perhaps a book which compiles them?
Nice that jimmy Brandly book is awesome
Great video. I'm keeping this one to use as a reference. As for the people who had negative things to say, I'd love to see them do a better job at this - I'm sure they couldn't.
thanks for upload. Great work!
Just amazing!!
He's a machine! I love it!
awesome love the flavors you do even on the same drum, know too many drummers that only look at one drum as one sound
WOW 😲 Great 👍 independence BRAVO 👏
beautiful 4-way!
wow!! Nice!!! That sound of that rim shot!!!!! :O
Maestro, tendrás como las partituras de esos ritmos para poder estudiarlos 🥺🥺🥺🥺👉👈
5:30 I'm completely puzzled
Same here bud but I know he is playing strait heat when you put music on top of it
It's probably easiest if you focus on the rhumba clave. Once you identify the clave, you can see that his right foot only ever plays the traditional "tumbao" rhythm. And his hands just freestyle over the top of those two things.
The guy's got skills.
That’s because you don’t understand loose phrasing’s over a strict 3/2 clave!!
@@sticktrik Oh, I get it. Free-form latin
Fantastic!!!
Acere ,keep it up you might get it
Good job !
Buenisimo... Tremendo Video !!!
GRACIAS !!!
This is excellent, great independence and time feel. It puts my attempt at the genre to shame.
Oh crap that is you ! I thought I know a guy from Minneapolis that looks like that dude! Nice to hear you play set! Thanks for putting up with me that night I want to start working on this stuff since I found out what little I know maybe I could get a lesson or two?
Are you playing with Damien much?

Watch at RUclips Bongos at your fingertips - an innovative way of playing bongos.
could have been perfect if you were also add a playlist of lessons, a short lesson for each style.
this was a school project. I am thinking about making a more detailed video lesson. This was a long time ago too!
don't over-thinking about it. Just do it :)) same as "Siros Vaziri" (look on FB. if you'll do the same
(with many kinds of rhythms and styles - it would be amazing
Really handy, thanks man!
real cool stuff; shows a lot of command and independence of the Afro-Cuban style!! what is that piece attached to the floor and snare?
