For his level of skill and playing. This was probably his easiest paycheck ever.
Will Pack
Dude he doesn't make that much. People who play at his level get paid around minimum wage. Not joking, not exaggerating. All the hours spent practicing, recording, traveling. It's done for love not money, or he would be using those incredibly skilled fingers as a surgeon or something. (Not saying surgeons only do it for the money, but they DO make tons more than Joe).
Stratocat93 He just secured the number 1 spot as highest paid guitarist from March 2014 - March 2015 earning over 82 million. His net worth is estimated at $245 million.
Dave Spinn That site is a parody! His estimated net worth is at 12 million dollars.
Danielle Effiong Thanks for the info! I'm thinking I was slightly off by 233 million dollars...hahaha.
Dave Spinn
no problem. You can't believe everything you read nowadays!
I simply think this is my favorite version because he doesn't do anything extra until the end, and he plays it so smoothly and cleanly, and accurately as well.
+Stonewall380 Entertainment and above ALL ...................... *mentally*
Northern Gardener I've watched this video every day for the past 2 years and it was only today that I noticed "satch" on his guitar strap. Guess it's his nickname (or did google help me with that. hmmm??)
In my country (Poland) we have law about symbols. You cant change national antherm rythm and notes :)So there is no way to do somthing like Vai.
Robert Highlights I like that! I hate when people just start screwing around and being flashy cause they are adding fast stuff (that usually sound stupid) to the song.
VirtualLife In my opinion, that's how it should be for something like this. It's the national anthem. It should be sung/played correctly. Nothing more, nothing less. :)
Guitar Tech : How much gain do you want for the USA anthem ?
Joe : Yes
Guitar Tech: And a wah?
Joe: Ten wahs
Amy Helie
One toe = One wah
more like wah...
@ThatBadGuy Yeah, way too much gain for me..
Gotta have that gain for something with this few notes. You need to make each one sound huge.
Joe seemed to realize the song isn’t about him, and played it that way. I’m sure he could have easily indulged.
He was inspired by Jimi Hendrix's interpretation. That is the only way The Star Spangled Banner ought to be performed instrumentally!
It was respect
@@pauljordan4452, Uncle Ted does a hell of a rendition of it too!
@@pauljordan4452 i beg to differ... ruclips.net/video/YIklrKwSSEo/видео.html :P i love Satch but this is my favorite
That is Joe. 🎸✌️👌😎
He is keeping it respectful. I'm glad he didnt go crazy on this. It shows that he's a mature musician who doesnt need to show off. He just does what is needed and tasteful. Great playing Joe, I look forward to watching you in Melbourne
Exactly. He just played it pretty straight and gave a little flourish at the end. Perfect. Anything else would have come across very self-indulgent and inappropriate.
Let everyone feel the pride, the anguish of being an American!!!!! Not always right but always US!!!! PEACE and Prosperity to ALL
It's Breakfast. Actually, he did some show off stuff at the end there, although tastefully done.
Joe is one of my favorite guitarists. He played our anthem respectfully without adding a lot of extracurricular licks and runs (I can't stand these modern pop vocalists who butcher it with quavering vibrato, etc). He is a seasoned pro who doesn't need to blow his own horn. Well done brother.
@@davidtimms3201 exactly my feelings
Here, ladies and gents, Is a musician who knows he doesn't have to BUTCHER his national anthem to throw out some cheep tricks and make himself look good! The master knows the value of simplicity and subtle artistry. Thank you, Joe, for bringing a tear to my eye by knowing when to shred and when to SING!! :,)
Butcher is the word I was looking for. I feel the exact same way..... Joe does it right.
How about how he 'embellished' that last note... hehe
Back in a time when they’d use people with actual talent to play the national anthem.
now its whoever sounds the catchiest on the radio...
CryptoKnight sadly true
Now it's all tits and ass
eL S yep
Now I'm just imagining Nick Jonas playing this and screwing up the notes 😂
Man Joe Satriani is just such a cool guitarist. He uses so much restraint here and doesn’t go out and try to embellish the national anthem at all. It’s perfectly played and I love the way he expresses each note almost like a vocalist would sing it.
Wouldn't be Satch without the signature ending.
I not even American but I have tears in my eyes right now. Respect from the UK 🇺🇸🇬🇧
OutrageousGamer/Livestreams, Gaming vids and More respect is so beautiful
OutrageousGamer/Livestreams, Gaming vids and More thanks man proud to be an American!

Thank you. It's nice to hear something positive about the U.S. from the U.K. because it seems like we get called awful names by people when the fact of the matter is no one is perfect regardless of where you are from. So brother's and sisters raise your glasses or lighters n joints and watch the satch man shred on the guitar. Sometimes six strings say more than words ever could
Goosebumps. A warm hug from Italy to all those who live in USA, land of the free and home of the brave
Wow that was heart warming, mega performance & all the people cheering !
Happy July 4th guys !

Thanks from across the pond ❤. I think the most awesome performance was the star spangled banner at Buckingham palace. I respect that.
Listened to the versions of Satriani, Slash and Malmsteen. This one is definitely my favourite

Check out Nugent.
We need a Buckethead version!
And a Synyster Gates version!
@Maori Warrior goes without saying my friend. True blood
evvignes bro, Ted looked so high when he played it lol
that's how a real fucking guitarist does it. Love the tone and shred
Simply amazing! There's only 2 other guitarist out there that are amazing and they are the late Eddie Van Halen and Mick Mars. I'm sure some folks will disagree with me.

@@paulmazzola398warren de martini would like a word
One of the best guitar performances I've ever witnessed of The Star Spangled Banner.
Joe Satriani honored the national anthem by maintaining it's unique melodic structure/emotional character throughout, and also injected his own creativity within the musical piece, without straying off into the sonic weeds for the sake of self-glorification.
I'm crying now. Because no matter how fucked up our country is... I'm still proud to be an American. I saw Joe burst out in 1987. I'm proud to say that I saw him in clubs...then catch the attention of the whole world. What a cool guy and what a great ride . Thanks for posting this
WELL PUT!!I saw JS once in the mid 90's,but I've been a big fan since Flying in a Blue Dream.Yeah,F'd up country, but I too am proud to be an American.

This is the best version I ever hear.
Another guitarists take too much over play, and break the soul of that song.
Satriani is the master. He play with heart.
That's the way it's suppose to be played on guitar. Beautifully done Satch!!
He plays anthem the best of all guitar players, it's just so on point and clean, such dynamic tone and harmony.
ESP87
That tone was not dynamic at all, It was flat out full throttle and there was no harmony at all unless you're talking about the E Major chord at the beginning and end...The rest was all melody and no harmony ...Harmony > two or more notes sounding at the same time..
@@toobmaniac exactly! Lol, I was gonna say it!
toob maniac Idiot!
@@biggils8894
Are you calling me an idiot ? If so how can i be an idiot for being correct ? Do you know what a dynamic tone is? A dynamic tone is expressive and reactive to the way you play the notes. pick it softly and it's subdued almost clean and the harder you pick the louder and more distorted it gets, there was no dynamic tone in the clip nor was there any harmony, it was all melody...You can't prove me wrong because i'm 100% correct..If i'm an idiot for correcting the original comment then what are you ? i guess you're an immature twit that's afraid of reality !
Except for Jimi.
the smile on joe s face at the very end says it all he s proud of the anthem and just loves playing for the crowd
yeahhhh that is pretty much the most godly tone i've ever heard a guitar carry.
Jimi hendrix kicks everyones ass on the gat
@@dante8227 Eddie who the washed up legend lol , Joe took guitar playing to a whole new level after Eddie did plus he is a guitar teacher & isn't an arrogant ass like Eddie is ! Ever notice you never see Eddie teaching kids or people how to play or improve their guitar skills but you see Joe on RUclips here giving lessons to some quite a bit which means he isn't afraid of teaching others to become better players with some who might one day even go beyond what he's done . I have watched some videos of Eddie & it's funny how he often turns away from the cameras so as no one can see how he plays some of his licks hiding it from people because he knows damn well there are others trying to either copy him or go beyond his style . Eddie also wasn't the first to do tapping there were jazz players that did it as well as a guy named Frank Marino who was doing it before Eddie was even heard of as well as a few others & yet he gets the credit for it . I liked the early stuff Vanhalen did but once Eddie started messing with those damn synthesizers & he won best award for synth after that the music changed & it almost seemed like he quit trying to come up with more great guitar licks leads & really push the envelope again on the edge like he did early on .
@@Travel901z Hendrix was good for his time but the stuff these new players are doing is much more complex than what Hendrix did playing wise .
Nah....
It's just the wah pedal. Nothing more to it. Listen closer.
One of the best guitar versions. Very clean and respectful. Respect remember that concept.
Yeah. People like Yngwie especially just butchered it fully.
In tears. So respectful yet such a rock ending
The hardest part of playing a National Anthem is not to overload it and to decompose it too much. Joe is just the Guitar Genius
Even Tho i'm Canadian
I love the star spangled banner and of course Joe Satriani
Love you guys, too... God bless kind Canada! Wishing you well.
This is so amazing :) So many people over play, wank or play too many chords for this one. Joe proves yet again he is class by just playing the melody and letting it sing!
Brings a tear to my eye when he “finds” the ending note and emphasizes it. Master class.
I love this version the tone is so cool and the control of emotional expression is so amazing.
Without a doubt, my number one guitarist of all time!
Carlos Santana inspired me to pick up the guitar, and there's A lot of other guitarists I love. But there's something about Joe satriani that makes him stand out. Such a phenomenal musician and he has deep appreciation for music in General
brian may.
John 5 lately has been killin it. Love Joe n all old school as well
Same
I'd love to see Satch, Joe Bonamassa, and Santana all on stage jamming away.
Fantastic job. I just watched Slash play the national anthem right before this video. No comparison at all. Joe's version was 10x better.
+Tommy Armour Slash's a joke,so overrated, his hat's is trademark and the band in played with...Wish EVH could do it,but he's the pope!!!As much as i love Yngwie,George Lynch and many other shredders,EVH's always coming first!Hi from France :)
I'm getting good enough at guitar that most of slashes solos seem relatively easy. However there is something awesome about his bends and vibrato that give him an amazing sound. He's not fast or super technically, even sloppy at times. But soulful and warm. He has a niche.
True and problably at writing timeless sons, and that"s what it's all about, because most people can shred,no big deal,it's just practice over the top really...
+Tommy Armour i gotta agree with you
+Tom Cass Not sure if that was a compliment or insult, or even why? Satriani is a very technical guitarist. He could of went all sorts of different directions with the National Anthem. But instead he played clean and true, and it sounded fantastic. To me that is the key!! I didn't like how Hendrix, Yngwie, Slash, and others played it either. Joe's was clean and precise to my ears.
Very beautiful , clean rendition. Excellent job Mr. SATRIANTI...
OMG. Joe Satriani @ a Raiders game!! Doesn't get any better than that!!,Vic. 😊
Satriani ,in my eyes a perfectionist
This and Steve Vai's are some of my favorite
No matter what u play Joe...yr sound is Magical...
Great to see this pop up on the 4th of July. Joe’s my favorite & he never ceases to amaze..
I felt the freedom wash over me like a warm shower of fucking epicness.
I've heard slash, malmsteen, Hammett, via and others. Joe is really top notch guitarist. He plays every note so smoothly and end with his signature style. I'm a guitarist and I play a few of his songs and enjoy them every time. I've learned so much from him. Thanks snatch. We love you in Belize. Wish I could contract you to come have us a show.
