Joe is one of my favorite guitarists. He played our anthem respectfully without adding a lot of extracurricular licks and runs (I can't stand these modern pop vocalists who butcher it with quavering vibrato, etc). He is a seasoned pro who doesn't need to blow his own horn. Well done brother.

One of the best guitar performances I've ever witnessed of The Star Spangled Banner. Joe Satriani honored the national anthem by maintaining it's unique melodic structure/emotional character throughout, and also injected his own creativity within the musical piece, without straying off into the sonic weeds for the sake of self-glorification.
Man Joe Satriani is just such a cool guitarist. He uses so much restraint here and doesn’t go out and try to embellish the national anthem at all. It’s perfectly played and I love the way he expresses each note almost like a vocalist would sing it.

ESP87 That tone was not dynamic at all, It was flat out full throttle and there was no harmony at all unless you're talking about the E Major chord at the beginning and end...The rest was all melody and no harmony ...Harmony > two or more notes sounding at the same time..

Ever notice you never see Eddie teaching kids or people how to play or improve their guitar skills but you see Joe on RUclips here giving lessons to some quite a bit which means he isn't afraid of teaching others to become better players with some who might one day even go beyond what he's done . I have watched some videos of Eddie & it's funny how he often turns away from the cameras so as no one can see how he plays some of his licks hiding it from people because he knows damn well there are others trying to either copy him or go beyond his style . Eddie also wasn't the first to do tapping there were jazz players that did it as well as a guy named Frank Marino who was doing it before Eddie was even heard of as well as a few others & yet he gets the credit for it . I liked the early stuff Vanhalen did but once Eddie started messing with those damn synthesizers & he won best award for synth after that the music changed & it almost seemed like he quit trying to come up with more great guitar licks leads & really push the envelope again on the edge like he did early on .

I'm getting good enough at guitar that most of slashes solos seem relatively easy. However there is something awesome about his bends and vibrato that give him an amazing sound. He's not fast or super technically, even sloppy at times. But soulful and warm. He has a niche.
