- I finally got my Model Y Tesla protected with this PPF (Protection Paint Film). I've ALWAYS wanted a matte/satin finished car, but never had a car cool enough to wrap, but with my new Model Y, it was a no brainer, and wow what a finish!! We completely did a full wrap with my Model Y, and on top of that, fully coated with Feynlab ceramic coating all over, even on the brakes, the rims, and every glass! Water is going to just bounce off my car!
The guys at Austin Detailing have been nothing more than AMAZING.. I bought my car there first on a whim from the excellent responses from Brian (the owner) and when I took my car over there, the staff was just so knowledgeable and you can tell they love their cars! Jackson was the one that helped me with my tint tinting choices and the wrap choice! I'm so amazed at the quality of it all! Congrats on both the car and the PPF! I’ve yet to do my MY (Red w/white interior): My Model S (2016) has had the PPF and Ceramic coating since 2016, and EVERYONE THINKS ITS A NEW CAR to this day. Even the dealer (Jays Detail Studio/San Antonio). I am SO happy with my PPF. Yes, you’re right about the cost. My cost was in the ball park $6500-$7500 w/ tint, ceramic, and FULL PPF (Suntek). Looks like Austin, TX is represented quite well. I wouldnt go to ANYONE else with my PPF. The CyberTruck will be a nice project in 2022. Can’t wait! Great channel!

Used to exclusively purchase black cars... couldn't keep them clean for more than a few days... haven't bought one (a black car) since 2002 and after seeing your ride it makes me miss having a black car. Took delivery of my MYP on Wednesday. Black on White just like yours and immediately brought it to get PPF. I kept the glossy PPF and also had them add the wheel rim gaurds, and had PPF added to the interior piano gloss console. Get it back on Monday!!

The satin wrap was the best thing I did to my Model Y, you should DEF get it. I just got a new Model Y white, and I put the satin on that!

We did a wire brush to the PPF and it was scary, but it just disappeared!! you should def at the very least get the front wrap. I saw someone do that the day I got mine. (it was the white tesla in the video). It's much cheaper, and you can't even tell.

Looking clean. I get my Model 3 in a few short months and I’m taking it right to get it wrapped.
My Pilot we traded in was black and had so much swirl marks and it just looked so bad after a couple years. Didn't want that issue with the MY so i didn't get black. Would've 100% gotten black if i knew the Satin PPF was a thing it looks damn good!

what was your thought process in doing a PPF instead of vinyl? Do you think PPF satin was worth the price over the vinyl even though vinyl is less protection its cheaper.

SO PPF is like 8mm-10mm depending on the brand. Car vinyl is usually 3mm-5mm. The only reason I got the PPF is because of the way the satin looks, but then getting some rocks hit my car and hail damage, I can see the protection to my car because of it. I just got my new Model Y, white, and I immediately bought the SATIN PPF for it. vinyl is like $4-6k, PPF is like $5-7k. Depending on who you get to do it and how many pieces they use to do it.

I actually now have owned both! (currently black). there's positives to both, honestly the white interior gives it that "wow" feeling, but Maintance sucks, and you're always iffy about someone wearing blue jeans. Black just looks clean af. I have black now, and it does feel smaller, weird huh? but, I love it. it's clean (regardless if it's dirty). Honestly depends on what color exterior you'd get. I wouldn't want a white on white. But because I got a white model Y now, I went black on the inside.

The wrap is definitely removable but resale value is added because it’s protection against the car. It stays on as long as you want it

I’ll be taking mine there in a week or two. No full wrap for me but just the front + rocker panels. I’m doing clear PPF so I can get away with it. Matte PPF requires doing the whole car. I’m doing the 10 year ceramic though. Talk about waiting too long. I’ve got 7500 miles on mine. Hopefully they can touch up any paint chips.

Apparently, the 5 yr ceramic is supposed to cost about $1k. I got it as a package deal since I bought the window tint full package and the full wrap (plus some other services)

What end up being the issue with the wheels? I was having the same vibration issue above 70+MPH
The foam in the wheel came off on the inside. I had to take it to my car guy (Austin detailing) for them to figure out the issue.. even discount tire and Tesla had no idea. They brought it to Tesla and got it replaced under warranty.

How do you find the Madico front tint matches the color of the rears from the inside? I hear a lot of ppl discussing matching the exterior but I've been struggling to find a tint that matches the color looking out from the interior. They all seem to be skewed green or blue!

Ppf wraps go for about 6k-8k and vinyls wraps like color ones go for around 4K-7k Just depends on the place and their quality of wrapping/warranty/how thick of material, etc. show me when ya get it done!
Do you have to have a black paint color to achieve the look you have here or is the ppf actually satin black colored? Hope that makes sense..
The satin will give the same effects on any color. It’s just a matte shiny finish. I’ve seen the white and blue and grey in these and they look AMAZING!! The satin is clear not colored

Preferred vs painted upgrade and ppf wrap instead?
@@cwal_21 so vinyl wrapping does protect the car from dings and rock chips like ppf. It’s about 3-4mm thick where ppf is 8mm thick. The one I have is the “self-healing” ppf, so if someone scratches my paint or something like that, it will absorb it and then disappear. They put a metal wirebrush to my car with the ppf on it and scratched up the ppf and the scratches instantly disappeared. Was cray. So vinyl wrap is just a color change, it will protect the paint barely from rock chips but not as much as the ppf. Ppf is for protection. So depends on what cha wanna do 😉

Does the wrap act as a protection film as well or do you need to put ppf on top of the wrap for that same ppf protection.
The wrap IS the PPF. This is not a vinyl wrap. It’s a PPF satin finish
@@MinhtotheMax Do they have some type of protection for the windshield? Just took delivery of our Model Y. Next day drove it on the freeway and was already hit by a rock. Luckily it didn’t crack the window nor leave a mark. Do they have anything to help with that?
@@josephabeleda7992 unfortunately there isn’t. I asked about the same thing lol. They said they had clear PPf but you won’t be able to see through it even though it’s clear. It will distort images. So they don’t do it.
Did you figure out what was causing the vibration?
So there's a foam piece into the tire that separated and it was making the tire shake! Got tesla to cover it after they were saying "TIRES ARE NOT WARRANTIED". cus I only had 2k miles on my car lol

@@MinhtotheMax They wanted me to pay for the full tire replacement and then deal with Goodyear for the refund. At the end of complaining, they caved and took care of all costs on the spot.
What does a complete car wrap with ceramic coating cost?
Well the price differs from different companies. I’ve gotten higher and lower quotes from other places but I kinda drifted towards the local recommendations of my local Tesla group. For something that expensive I wanted quality and great service. So I paid about $6500 for the full wrap, he threw in the ceramic coating (normally cost $1k for the 5 yr) cus I purchase window tint prior (there’s a video). So I would say about 6k to 8k is going to be the pricing. If they’re charging less, I’d question it. The places that charge less do mult pieces on pieces that more expensive places do one pieces of that makes sense. Seams.

Wraps while it protects, doesn’t show enough natural beauty of any car shine. They also look nasty once it starts peeling and chipping.
You can get a clear wrap if ya like the gloss! But you can take it off at any point 🤷🏻♂️

I don’t have a Tesla yet but the pressure to hold myself back is crazy...I currently lease a Volvo XC60 so can’t do anything until my lease is up but man I can’t wait. I love your channel. Not that is makes a big difference but is that Canadian Dollars or US Dollars?

Ask them, for the back upper piece for the MY, is it a 1 piece or a two piece. I were you I'd check their quality, some places will be cheaper because they'll do two pieces instead of one to save money on the wrap, and you'll see seams.

The wrap is about 1200-2k cheaper at the other 3 places that work mostly on exotic cars. I wont use Brian or let him touch my car w that kind of customer service. Good luck. See you on the road.

How much did it cost? But what I want is to wrap the car in couple years after all the chips and scratches - have the my M3 wrapped in a different color when I'm tired of the factory blue(Forest Green) covering up all the chips and scratches. Paint protect in a different color - ugh NEW CAR. YES. Anyone?
PPF is no joke. it apparently retails for $8k for matte for full body wrap. I paid about $6500. Ceramic coating would've cost another $1k, but I got it thrown in because I bought window tint previously, and I'm getting my brakes done by them. Packages saves ya money lol but got dang it cost sooo much but it's WORTH IT :) gotta protect that investment.
