Excellent video for all Tesla owners because many of these apply to ms & mx. My biggest problem with FSD is it stays with the vehicle and not owner. I lease or get a new car every 3-4 years so economics don’t make sense. My first Tesla was in 2017 and 2nd arrives this month after 10 month wait. I installed NEMA 14-50 EVSEs in our northern & southern homes at a cost of about $100 each. Home charging is usually done while you are sleeping or with family. It makes no difference if you charge at 8 or 12 kW because most of the time you‘ll reach charging goal in the morning. A wonderful channel so had to subscribe.
Clicked on this to see if you'd mention nose protection. You did! So important! Reason is Tesla paint is very very soft. Protecting the nose will up your resale value for sure! Great job on the vid!
The first thing I did when I bought my model Y, was get it wrapped. I bought the car in white and got it wrapped for $4,000 us. The guy that did the wrap said it would have been easier in Black so if you don't mind an additional thousand dollars that you won't even use it will make the wrapping job easier and there won't be any white poking through around whatever color you picked-- I have a couple tiny spots where that happens near door handles where it was hard for him to put the wrap. The primary advantage is that you get to have your Tesla in whatever color you want including the cool one that looks different from each angle. I saw a Tesla in lime green recently that was really beautiful. Also, it allows you to protect the car without spending extra on the clear coat wrap.
I was hung up on the 4680 cells...but decided that the current batteries are good enough...and not enough reason for me to wait another 6 months or longer. The wait is already too long...my fingers are crossed that they will figure out the production problems with the 4680s before my car is built, but if it comes with the existing batteries, I am fine with that too.
I feel the same way, but given all the uncertainties, who knows when MYs with 4680s will come out (or if there will be glitches they need to work out during the initial production). Life is short, so I will enjoy my MY when it finally arrives, hopefully by the end of this year. BTG, I agree, I ordered the color inside and out that I have my heart set on (beautiful blue, with stunning white interior), Gemini wheels, no FSD. I’m waiting for FSD to be completely functional by the time my kids take away my car keys, 30 years from now.
I like this guys voice.. it’s so calming. If there is ever a zombie apocalypse, I’ll look him up so I can hear him say “it’s cool, everything will be alright.. go get in your Tesla .. it’s just a zombie.. you got this..”
As an add on comment from my message below: I called the ceramic film company listed in your links and they said if you add the ceramic film after you have a paint chip or blemish the coating with actually highlight the blemish. You really do need to do this when you first purchase the car.
Just took delivery of Model Y long range stealth gray and white seats. Looks great. Will definitely do the ceramic interior protection and at leat the front seal. Thanks for your recommendations. Cheers,😊
I did a test drive of a Model 3 in January, 2020 and became fanatically enthusiastic about eventually getting a Tesla. The seats were incredibly comfortable and the car handled even better than my BMW M Coupe around country road curves. Since then I've been watching Tesla RUclipsrs on an almost daily basis to keep up on developments. I even had my electrician install a 240V outlet in my garage. In June of 2020 I took a test drive of a Model Y. It was not fun to drive like the Model 3 was. I'm waiting to test drive the Cybertruck. I'll bet that won't be possible until 2023. I did reserve one back in March of 2020 with FSD for $7000 because I was attracted to its design, its stainless steel body, and now four wheel steering, air suspension, etc. In the meantime, my enthusiasm for Tesla has cooled somewhat after learning that it does not have two basic safety aids, namely, blind spot warning and rear traffic alert warning. And then there is the phantom braking, waiting too long to take the exit lane, and other issues requiring the driver to immediately take control. Relaxing? I don't think so. It is also becoming clear that I probably won't live long enough to see genuine level 5 FSD. (I'm 83.) So I was going to order a Model 3 this spring after selling my 2000 BMW to help pay for the white seats, and the PPF. I thought I wanted red, but compared to the red on the BMW (imola red), it doesn't look great. I'm not a fan of having to do almost everything with the distracting screen requiring one to take one's eyes off the road, even momentarily. I see that by 2023 there will be a number of EV's being offered and supposedly they will be able to access the Tesla superchargers. The Kia EV6GT looks especially promising. It has a virtual reality heads up display, Apple car play, and a few physical knobs and buttons that are easy to memorize by touch alone.
I completely agree on not buying FSD. The standard auto pilot will be good enough for 99.9999% of people. Plus manually driving my Tesla Model 3 is way more fun!! 😁
Just a suggestion about wall connector chargers vs travel chargers. Note that the tesla travel charger is not outdoor rated or rated for any kind of water resistance. As a result, if you are not charging indoors it would be a bad idea to use the travel charger in wet or freezing conditions. Travel charger wet concerns are there even with a GFCI breaker/socket since the travel charger itself is not wet area rated and may be prone to ongoing issues if it gets wet/frozen. The Tesla wall connector charger is outdoor rated and can be attached to a wall or mounted to a Tesla pedestal or 3rd party pedestal. As well multiple Tesla wall connector chargers can be networked over WIFI to make sure you don't over tax the overall current of a subpanel or main panel even when on separate 60A circuits. So in summary if you have a nicely sealed garage that is dry, yes I agree the travel charger is a great idea. For outdoor or wet garage environments, you might want to consider the Tesla Wall connector charger instead. If you also need to charge multiple Teslas and need to avoid overloading your sub or main panel consider multiple wall connector chargers.
Took delivery of MY LR in August in SoCal. No PPF as I did not see a reason for it in this area. The weather is great with the winter only getting to high 40 on the coldest days. I did apply a graphene ceramic coat to the entire vehicle to make it easier to wash it.
Thanks for another awesome video, sone very helpful suggestions for those thinking to order. It would be nice if Tesla offered sliding rails for the 5 passenger version, it would improve flexibility for passenger and cargo space sharing
I wish I had seen this video before I purchase the vehicle, I wanted to change the color from metallic silver to blue. The Tesla sales representative said it would be 2022 before I would be able to get the Blue Model 3, now I wish I had waited.
Great video. Just accepted delivery of my M3 Performance. I didn't watch your video prior to delivery, but luckily I practiced a lot of your suggestions. Good advice for both M3/Y!
I actually had the same feeling. Went to test out the different wheels but also got to drive a black and white interior. Black had a more luxury and calming effect. The white was cool but I could tell difference.
I agree with BTG, get the color combination and options you want and that are within your budget. I got this advice from the Sales Associate early in my buying process and it was great advice. I got the pearl white exterior with all black exterior. The all black interior is just a bit more more relaxing/soothing to me. All the combinations are actually great except $2K is a lot for the red.
A true man after my own heart. If it don’t come off with baby wipes then it ain’t coming off. When my boys were little I drove my wife insane using baby wipes on EVERYTHING.
We have been considering ordering a Performance Model Y as they say delivery expected in December, Long-range is April 2022. Now I'm not sure, because I know I want more range, and I don't want slower charging haha
Hi I am having a delivery in December. I’d like to get the PPP & the inside upholstery protection. Can you give me the website and your discount code. By the way, I’m an RN too like your wife. I’ve been following you both since I’ve become a Tesla enthusiast. Thank you for what you two are sharing.🙏🏼🌹
Thank you for the video. Been looking into the model 3 "So far" and have to upgrade to the performance model to get the longer range version, but with that also come the I er wheels. Still doing lost of research and this video helps. Thank you! Aloha❤
new follower great video! holding out for the new model Ys to start coming out of TX and waiting for the announcement of the standard option to be available again. once that drops my oder is going in! super excited!
The filming in the office is on my ol reliable Canon M50 paired with the amazing Sigma lens. A lot of the B roll is iPhone, but some of it is the Canon
I did want to get the model 3 long range, but I hear that the standard version now have the LFP batteries, and that In the long run, they are better lasting. So I am planning on ordering the standard base model… having said that if they did bring out LFP batteries for the long range model, I’ll be all over that in a heartbeat.
Nice video but I think you should've mentioned that on the 7-seater you cannot lay the 2nd row seats down completely flat. So no camping or transporting really long things in there. The cargo space is also a lot less than a 5-seater with 2nd row down.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy I’m not sure how, but I must have mixed it up with how the Model X is or something. Sorry for being wrong here! I’ve googled it enough now to see that I was completely wrong in my comment. Thanks for being nice about my uselessness 🥴
@@BeardedTeslaGuy that is what that is bothering me low range of model y as people say they get max 320km in model on freeways and model y long range is not available . On the other hand model 3 long range is faster and lasts more kms
I am shopping around for a new car for the past few months and watching a lot video. 1 thing a lot of Tesla videos always suggest paint protection. Why? Is the paint quality on the Tesla that bad?
I just want enhanced auto pilot tbh but the thing that’s pushing me is the price increases. I reserved just before the reservation price went up to 250. Idk when it will be ready but thats time to add to the down payment
@@BeardedTeslaGuy yeah , it’s the perfect in between. I feel like driving a Tesla is almost like a video game where driving a car is more on the arcade side with regenerative breaking. I don’t want to give up too much but if I can have it parallel park for me. Take my money lol
Just took our first trip, and I’m a little disappointed in range. I have a Long Range Y, and was expecting to get ~300 miles from 100%. We left home with 95% charge and got to our destination 120 miles away with only 31% remaining. The road was a flat interstates (cruised at 75mph, no stomps) and went from 300 ft above sea level to 0. It was 80° outside and was sunny, so we did run the A/C. A Better Route Planner nailed it, interestingly. I know that charging for 0-100 is not a straight line. Is consumption? Shouldn’t I have been able to drive the 240mi round trip on a full charge?
Oh. Ok. I just crunched numbers on your trip to Disney World and found that your effective range on the vehicle was right at 200 miles, and that you stopped about every 130 miles per charge. That seems in line with my performance this weekend. I’m kind of disappointed with that. I’m not sure EVs can get to being the norm if we have to charge every 200 miles and it costs us about 10-15 extra minutes per 2 hours of driving. They still have work to do to get people like my sister to jump.
Wow thank you for sharing!! this is very valuable information as I am looking to purchase a new model Y performance, it is very disappointing to know that I will only get approximately 200 miles per charge because my driving is mostly highway
We also placed an order for MY LR, no FSD, black/black with 20" wheels. I'd like to get standard wheels but I know I'll regret not having it. I have no DIY genes.
Ordered the same combo but with the two package! You definitely want the tow package because after market ones sux and you want to keep the beautiful machine clean!
Awesome recommendations and actually just placed my order for the Y. Will there be any major differences between the 2021 and 2022 and if I placed my order now i'm likely be delivered the 2022 right?
Im a retiree so don’t do that much driving. Safety is my number one concern. I currently drive a SUV which I love bc it sits high compared to a sedan. I want to switch to an EV so Debating on getting either the 3 LR and the Y LR. Have not had a chance to test drive the Y. From my little research, the Y seem to have more negative reviews than the 3. If I ordered the 3 now, I could take delivery in Feb. Does the new battery affect the 3 or does that apply to the Y. And lastly, I want to get the most bank for my bucks in deciding which one to get. Thoughts/advice anyone?
Well, the reason there are more "issues" with the Y is its a newer car than the 3. That all said, if you are retired, you are probably looking for something you'll keep for quite a while. As you get older, you may not enjoy getting in and out of the 3. The Y seat is significantly higher than the 3, and I think you may be happier getting in and out of it.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Thank you so much for your input. I thought about that too, but I couldn't justify paying abt 12K more for just parking the car there most of the time. As of today, looks like I would have to wait almost a year to get the Y or just 2 months for the 3. I can get the most money for selling my 2019 Infiniti now vs a year down the road. Decision, decision :)
I think I may be with you on not buying the Tesla wall connector. When I bought my Model Y over a year ago my rationale was I didn’t want to pack up my mobile cable every time I got in the car after charging for the night. So my logic was convenience of the mobile connector always being cabled up and I could afford it. However in over a year since getting my MY I have never taken my mobile cable out of the sub trunk for charging. If you can afford the $500 for the mobile connector, I’d go for it. Looks cool in the garage etc., but really not necessary at all IMO.
Hello. Liked your video. I have bought a large sheet of xpel ppf and will cut out the different parts for the car. I am doing a partial coverage. The hood and the rocker panels are easy. The front bumper is a little difficult as it is «double curved”. I have made a paper template of it but the sizes is a little difficult. Are you Abel to help me out with the size and measurements of this part? Thanks a lot for your answer.
Great advice. I appreciate how it is presented as “best for me” or “best for most people” and acknowledging that some people may be better served by different choices. By stating the reasoning behind the recommendations, we can decide what is going to be best for us. It is good to hear a clam voice of reason and useful information.
I just got my SR+ with the “Chinese” batteries on September 8. Love it! I wish I could have afforded the LG or the Model Y. I have 3 kids and we are having a challenge getting 2 booster seats and 1 car seat in it. My wife is mad at the car! $10,000 for FSD is too much. I did install the Tesla wall charger. I was going to just use the mobile charger, but the cost to run a line for a NEMA 14-50 alone vs installing the charger was the same about $1100. I had to run a 90 feet wire from my circuit breaker to the garage. I got blue and it looks awesome! My friend does detailing and he is putting on a ceramic coat on the paint. I’m going to use ceramic coat protection on the interior (black).
Yep he and Ryan Shaw are my go to peeps for everything Tesla. Taking delivery of Model Y in two days and totally ready with accessories and charging thanks to these gentlemen.
Thanks for the tips. I have previously wrapped my cars and my tip to readers is to buy plain rolls of PPF rather than that those precut template kits, which are a PITA to apply. They are expensive and cut very precisely which requires a very high skill to install cleanly. You need to be incredibly precise in positioning the template and plan ahead as uneven stretching will throw you off leave less than desirable results in other areas. With a whole sheet you don't have to worry about that. You have plenty of material for stretching as well as do-overs. With the precut templates you screw up just once and your out. You'll have have to buy another precut film.
I’ve had good success. I did have to do the first bumper twice previously, but the 3M PPF seemed to be a tighter fit and stretching was not consistent with the material. The Xpel material was cut excellent with less stretching and more forgiving to work with
Has anyone told you that you have a very calming relaxing voice? Love the video btw! I wanted the red model Y so badly but husband said it’s a waste of money. We ended up getting black and I still regret it!
A couple points. 1. I highly, highly recommend test driving before finalizing your financing details if possible. Once the order is in that state, it is much harder to change the configuration. I switched to performance thinking the ride was going to be acceptable, but after test driving performance vs long range - I could tell the difference and the performance actually made my wife sick (too fast). By that point, I had actually moved my order into the financing phase, securing a loan. It was hard to get a rep to change it, so I ended up canceling and re-ordering (losing my deposit). The trick here is to tell the rep at the showroom that you want to test drive a performance vs long range - otherwise you will get whatever is available. We did reserve two test driving sessions back to back to make this easier. In our case, we test drove a performance model 3 vs a long range model Y. While not perfect, it was enough to tell the difference since they are based on the same platform. 2. I completely agree with the NEMA 14-50 recommendation. The other thing to consider is resell value. The Tesla charger isn't going to be worth anything to anyone if they don't own a Tesla if you end up selling the house. But, 14-50 outlets are useful for all EVs and actually have uses beyond charging EVs. Unless you are fairly confident you aren't going anywhere anytime soon, then stick with the NEMA outlet.
My dealership gave me a bunch of cards and told me to test drive as many as I want, it was slow that day lol I didn’t like the performance because the range got sucked up so fast 💨
I like my elegant dedicated Tesla wall connector. If I move and the buyer doesn’t value it, I can take the connector with me and either put a NEMA 14-50 outlet in its place or just terminate it and cover it with a plate.
I was going to get a NEMA 14-50 but an electrician told me to get a Tesla wall connector instead. I'm stuck with a Tesla charger and didn't hire the electrician that Recommended the wall connector.
@@jackiestarr2881, the Tesla wall connector is great, so I wouldn’t view it as “stuck”. And if you or a future owner really wants a generic plug there in the future instead of the wall connector, it shouldn’t be rocket science to make the substitution. The wiring should be the same. Depending on the size of the breaker they used, you might have to swap out for a slightly smaller breaker. But that’s a tomorrow problem. For today, enjoy the elegance and performance of the Tesla wall connector.
You spoke to me right out of the gate; I would definitely be that guy wishing I’d ordered the color I really wanted. I’m now changing my order to red from gray on my MY. Thanks for the nudge.
Great video BTG! We bit the bullet for red with white interior ... never looked back. The white makes the car so "bright" to drive. It's a mood lifter for sure!
@@susancone1787 we went with the standard wheel too and are glad we did. I've seen the black wheels scratched up on the edges and it's not a good look.
@@Carol_Chenot I saw that too on the one I test drove yesterday. The black wheels looked terrible due to scratches. Plus the silver is like getting 2 wheels in 1. You can take the cap off or leave it.
Good video! free with you on enhanced AP (I have it in my M3) BUT - phantom braking is a real menace, and frankly makes the current version of EAP unsafe in my opinion. I had it happen twice on a recent 5 hour highway trip, both times with no cars in front of me but large semi's right behind me. NOT good. Until Tesla resolves this, I won't use it - its just too dangerous.
Incredibly annoying. I don’t get how they can fail with such a basic thing as adaptive cruise control when this stuff has been out on the market since 2014 or even before. I don’t even use EAP, but if there are no lines on a road it will brake like crazy if a car comes from the opposite field. I did the same road with an Enyaq - no problem. Considering how much we spent on our S I feel ripped off.
Hi nice job, I am asking around about the Ford about using the EV battery as the house battery? Has Tesla made any comment about making a future offering in the EV range for that? Please comment. K
This was one of the best videos I've seen yet. You have such a great voice and are truly a wealth of personal knowledge. We have already test driven (and LOVE) the Model Y. Our local electric provider will reimburse us the $500 for the Tesla wall charger and install it for free which is GREAT ! We are in the US and our state also gives an additional EV credit separate from the Federal Tax Credit, people should look for both of those in their area as well. We are only trying to see what the Federal Government is going to do with the new bill (I know I can't hold my breath) since we have a few months still on our current lease. Thank you for taking your time and all of the effort you put into this, and your other videos. Keep up the great work.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy yeah bro. I figured I'll order the model Y and in a couple years, upgrade to a newer one. Its a win win, Tesla will continue to destroy the ice industry. 👍🏾
Thanks for the info. Great as always. One piece of protection that I did was to put a piece of 4 in. wide and about 6 in. long section of hook material next to the accelerator. My foot always seems to rest against the side and wear out the carpeting.
I have a Model 3 Performance W/FSD, I have over 45 years of driving, it’s the best car I’ve owned yet - very happy with it! Ordered the 3 Motor Cyber Truck with FSD. We’re building a new house, the garage will be wired with two wall connectors. The difference between 30 miles of range an hour and 40 miles of range an hour isn’t much…unless you need it. Each of the two nearest Tesla Super Chargers are about an hour away. Here, the nearest Super Charger is about 7 minutes away. 3% is the lowest we’ve been and that was on a cross country trip. That gave me range anxiety! Really, the only time we use Super Chargers are for road trips. I liked you wheel strategy, a second set of wheels reside in the garage with Winter tires, and I will use one of them as a spare for cross country trips. Great video! Thank you for the time and effort to post. Stay safe!
I have FSD on my 2019 M3. The only feature that is truly useful for everyday driving is auto lane change. I did not want to pay $10k to add it to my MY, but after 3 months I can say driving without it is a real pain. Every time you change lanes the car drops out of auto-steer...with that "jerk" you feel as the car returns steering control to the driver. It makes for a somewhat unpleasant ride and gives passengers a very poor impression of the car (almost as bad as phantom braking at 70mph). I can handle stop signs. I can handle red lights. I can park myself. I'll never put a car into a driverless Uber fleet. But please, sell me auto lane change now at a reasonable price!
EAP has been available in Europe for about half a year by now. Although I don't drive enough on highways to justify $4k for auto-lane change. Also, I don't feel like the jerk is noticeable so long as you put on the indicator before you do a lane change. The biggest nuisance is the sounds dings. I've learned to ignore them, but I often wish I could turn them off. But that is minor compared to the far too frequent false positives in emergency braking for things it shouldn't. I always get really tense when it puts an unwarranted alarm out of nowhere at really high volume. I'd estimate it happens every 10th city mile or 100th rural mile. I know AP is only intended for highways but I still like to use it or TACC.
If you need to change lanes while in autopilot and want to avoid the "jerk" of taking over control of the steering wheel you can disengage autopilot by tapping up, so reverse, on the stock and it disengages basic AP
@@kelvinmaldonado7547 With that method, it's worth mentioning you also need to either have regen set to low (if that setting still exists) or get ready to use the accelerator to avoid braking
…Writing to you from Europe. I clearly remember that before the last OTA update, while in autopilot, as soon as you touched the lane change lever, the car disabled autopilot, which meant no ‘jerk’ of the steering wheel. I’m not sure if that was an official function of the car or not, but that’s gone now :(. Now I do the same as mentioned here. I disable autopilot first while keeping my foot on the gas, hoping to get a ‘smooth transition’, while prepared to answer any questions from the passengers who just got ‘awaken’ by the sudden behavior change of the car…definitely not something you would expect from a luxury and very expensive car :(
I just took delivery of my SR+ MSM/Black interior back on 8/20, using your referral code. Thank you for the informative and insightful videos man. I'm still proud of the fact that I no longer have to visit the gas station again for anything other than food! I have yet to take an official road trip in it, but that'll come eventually. I've driven around town so far and I love the excuses I have now to drive.
Just changed my Model Y order from default to red paint and white interior yesterday. Hopefully it won’t cause any further delays, but I think it’ll be worth it. Also, good advice about ordering a second set of wheels to switch out.
Subscribed! Thank you for the super useful & comprehensive video. Given the lineup of major events in the coming few months (Tax incentives, 4680 + Single Casting body, Possible increase in Self Driving Package), when do you think is the right time to reserve a Model Y LR ? The current estimated delivery window is April as of this day.
I love your Model Y videos . I would love to see your channel grow even more . Good luck with it . 👍 This video is directly pointed to me . I was one of the early adopters . Everytime i see other Tesla’s it always comes up in my mind that I wish I had chosen that color & wish I had chosen the white interior & inductions wheels . 😀😀 But you made great points based on your experiences. 👌👌 I’m thinking to sell my car now & ordering new one with the correct choices the time around 😀. I have very low mileage. I need your tips . Where should I start to list for a quick sale . ? Thank you in advance . 🙏🏻
I thought you can buy the SRMY off menu? Also, I would say don't wait to buy your Tesla. They are holding value really well and you can always go upgrade, just like you did.
Great video. With one exception. I'm retired and I don't take long trips. I currently have a Chevy Bolt with about a 240 mile range. I have never had to charge any place but home. I do have a standard range model 3 on order that should be here next month. So in my case spending $10,000 extra would not be a wise choice. If I did decide to go farther then my 263 range I can get it charged at a charging site. Keep posting your excellent videos.
Also pro tip for the car seats, you can purchase custom seat covers for $200-$400. You save the extra $700, can customize the color (red is a fav), you also protect the original seats from wear and tear. I personally still regret not purchasing the white interior, but luckily it's only a temporary lease.
Thank you for the information. My husband and I were on the fence about some of the options so really liked how you described the pros and cons of each. Much appreciated!
nicely done.. and this helped me a lot. I'm considering a model Y for just myself as a practical vehicle with towing capability and was wondering what your thoughts are. I'm learning that buying the car with the hitch already built in is the best way to go because there may not be enough hardware to attach one to if bought without. Great review and advice.. thank you (liked and sub'd)
Great video, I wish it had been out when we purchased in early 2021! However we were 8 outa 10😀 We went in not considering the 3rd row and then after seeing it in the showroom it was a no-brainer if you've got the extra $2k (it gives you options). We gave up the induction wheels to get the 3rd row and simply took off the plastic wheel covers, it looks great IMO and you don't lose more than 10-20 miles of range. The 2 things we didn't follow were 1.) We went full auto-pilot (still on the fence, but hoping for more updates) 2. We didn't put the protective film on the front of the car which is a GREAT suggestion!! Now we have 9,400 miles on the car but not too many blemishes from the road. Do you think it would be ok to put the film on now? I'm very handy, but I'm concerned any blemish will show under the protective film.
Great video! The only advice I didn’t take was getting the induction wheels. I ordered them with my Model Y because they just looked too good and I really didn’t like the geminis. Its worth noting (I’m not sure if prices have changed) but I did look for either an aftermarket set that looked just as good as the inductions or a like new set of inductions…both were coming out to about $4,000. So I paid the $2,000 for the induction upgrade and if needed I can get a set of Geminis for about $2,000. The way I see it in todays market I’m spending $4,000 either way. But ill be honest, I dont see myself getting the Geminis.
@@JohnSmith-yg8jk yes, the more expensive inductions do get less range. Tesla states they get 12 miles less range per charge. So you are trading looks for a small amount of efficiency. However now that I own them. I would 100% buy them again. They look amazing. I really didn’t like the look of the geminis.
Well, it is easy for me to find almost new induction wheels (with tires) at 2000$ on eBay. It is all personal preference but paying a similar amount of money for both would be much more valuable.. I would keep Geminis as backup tires just in case I have a problem with induction wheel tires or if I plan on a long trip as the Beared Tesla guy said.
Now you’ve got me thinking about changing the paint color from blue to red for the MY that’s due next month. I wonder how that will affect the arrival date?
Personal experience, went Monday thinking about changing MY LR from white to blue, $1000 for paint n $1000 for price increase, lol, I love white even more than I previously did 😜
Only regret is not getting the white interior. My wife convinced me that it would get too dirty especially with blue jeans. But I love the midnight grey/silver exterior and was sure I wasn't getting white from the start. As for the wheels, I took off the hub caps and installed the nut caps and center cap. The original wheels look great without the hub caps.
If you search there option for seat cover looks and feel like Tesla seat. I got black Interior on my MY then bought white cover and I love it. you have to look at the door panel to know that I do not have original white seat from tesla because mine is still Black.
Interesting that you mention the 7 seater, third row for children in booster seats or car seats @6:08. We were told by the Tesla rep in the showroom not too long ago that the third row was NOT for children but only for adults. We really wanted the 7 seater configuration for our family but were discouraged by the Tesla rep for this reason. In our family, it would not have made sense to have the taller adults sitting in that uncomfortable third row while the children in car seats would be in the more ample second row.
Well, BTG, although I was adamant that including FSD in my MYLR order made sense because I commute 80 miles/day, I finally canceled FSD because the added cost would increase my initial sales tax and car registration costs due to the increased base value of the car. I'm glad there is now a subscription option and will definitely check it out once my car is delivered. I also made two other changes after ordering. I added a tow hitch (1 day post order), then I changed from blue to red (5 days post order) because... it's gorgeous! I'd already chosen white interior and Gemini's so now all I need is the car itself! It can't arrive soon enough!
Just waiting for my VIN and delivery date. As of right now (and the past few weeks) it has been saying September 16th - 30th. I ordered on July 16th. I am eagerly awaiting to hear about a firm delivery date!
@@shelbysimmons8041 That sounds lovely! I know, the wait is sooo wild. I drive past their lot where they store the cars as they come in and I'm just like, "one of you are mine!" Haha
Thanks so much
Clicked on this to see if you'd mention nose protection. You did! So important! Reason is Tesla paint is very very soft. Protecting the nose will up your resale value for sure! Great job on the vid!

I like this man. He speaks knowledgeably and with a pleasing calm manner. Update: I followed all this advice for my order! Now the wait.

Well what happened?
Good advice thanks for sharing
I was hung up on the 4680 cells...but decided that the current batteries are good enough...and not enough reason for me to wait another 6 months or longer. The wait is already too long...my fingers are crossed that they will figure out the production problems with the 4680s before my car is built, but if it comes with the existing batteries, I am fine with that too.
Yea, it’s so hard to figure out how long it would likely be. Until it’s up and running, no way to know
I feel the same way, but given all the uncertainties, who knows when MYs with 4680s will come out (or if there will be glitches they need to work out during the initial production).
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha thanks 😂😂👍
Fantastic commentary. Thank you for going over the business end as well as the scheduled battery enhancements.

As an add on comment from my message below: I called the ceramic film company listed in your links and they said if you add the ceramic film after you have a paint chip or blemish the coating with actually highlight the blemish. You really do need to do this when you first purchase the car.
Always best to apply PPF at the very beginning. But, if its too late for that, some touchup paint can be used to fill in chips before applying PPF.
So I was going to order a Model 3 this spring after selling my 2000 BMW to help pay for the white seats, and the PPF.
At some piping you just have to jump onboard. The sooner you do, the sooner you can start enjoying it
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Nautical terminology?
I completely agree on not buying FSD. The standard auto pilot will be good enough for 99.9999% of people. Plus manually driving my Tesla Model 3 is way more fun!! 😁
For sure more fun to be had!
The best upgrade for your Tesla is many, many extra principle payments.

Yea, only a good option for garage
Took delivery of MY LR in August in SoCal. No PPF as I did not see a reason for it in this area. The weather is great with the winter only getting to high 40 on the coldest days. I did apply a graphene ceramic coat to the entire vehicle to make it easier to wash it.
Congrats
Hey good stuff. I ordered my model Y and call me crazy but I love that liquid black look so it will get full ppf
Same
This is outstanding! I think 7 Seater is worth it with kids under 10 for sure. - 10K for FSD as well.
Always a use case for all the options which is nice
Very helpful for me because I am looking for the best options for when I by. Thank you for your help 🙏 😊
Glad it was helpful!

Good sound advice thanks young man
There is so much BS postings about and on Tesla it was nice seeing your post.

Wish I would have gotten regular silver. Also white was not an option when I got my 3. Its so beautiful.
Like the OG silver? Those are so rare and look soooo good
I would get a SR+ Y instantly. I'm planning on getting the 3. But I really prefer hatchback to sedan. So the choice would be obvious.
Yea, hope it comes back against all odds
Thanks for another awesome video, sone very helpful suggestions for those thinking to order. It would be nice if Tesla offered sliding rails for the 5 passenger version, it would improve flexibility for passenger and cargo space sharing
Agreed!
I wish I had seen this video before I purchase the vehicle, I wanted to change the color from metallic silver to blue. The Tesla sales representative said it would be 2022 before I would be able to get the Blue Model 3, now I wish I had waited.
Living with regrets is hard lol
Great video. Just accepted delivery of my M3 Performance. I didn't watch your video prior to delivery, but luckily I practiced a lot of your suggestions. Good advice for both M3/Y!

I like the white interior, but I think the black interior is more relaxing.
That’s a good way of saying it
I actually had the same feeling.
Just changed my model Y to the Gemini wheels.. thanks!

Haha I know what you mean!
We have been considering ordering a Performance Model Y as they say delivery expected in December, Long-range is April 2022. Now I'm not sure, because I know I want more range, and I don't want slower charging haha
Lol
Really hoping we do indeed see SR Y come back!

Great advice--what device did you use to record this video--the quality and resolution is so good!
They won’t do LFP for LR. Too heavy for that big a pack.
Nice video but I think you should've mentioned that on the 7-seater you cannot lay the 2nd row seats down completely flat. So no camping or transporting really long things in there. The cargo space is also a lot less than a 5-seater with 2nd row down.
you can absolutely lay down the second row flat.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy I’m not sure how, but I must have mixed it up with how the Model X is or something. Sorry for being wrong here! I’ve googled it enough now to see that I was completely wrong in my comment. Thanks for being nice about my uselessness 🥴
not a big deal man, this is a safe place haha
Which one would you prefer model 3 long range or model y standard
Tough one for sure. SR Model Y probably because more comfort and space. But then road trips would take longer…such a tough one
@@BeardedTeslaGuy that is what that is bothering me low range of model y as people say they get max 320km in model on freeways and model y long range is not available . On the other hand model 3 long range is faster and lasts more kms
No white interior here. When I get off work I sometimes have marine grease on my clothes. Not getting that out of bright white leather.
Haha probably a safe bet so you aren’t looking at black stains all the time
I am shopping around for a new car for the past few months and watching a lot video. 1 thing a lot of Tesla videos always suggest paint protection. Why? Is the paint quality on the Tesla that bad?
Its because the front bumper on this car is a huge flat painted surface rather than being protected by a massive plastic grill.
I just want enhanced auto pilot tbh but the thing that’s pushing me is the price increases. I reserved just before the reservation price went up to 250. Idk when it will be ready but thats time to add to the down payment
EAP is really where it’s at
@@BeardedTeslaGuy yeah , it’s the perfect in between.
That’s the reality on highway speeds. Faster you go the more energy consumed. Rated range is closer to 45 mph
Oh.
You gained a Sub! Great video
Ordered MY LR, no FSD, standard wheels, Blue/black. No tow. Five seats. Estimated Jan 22 delivery. I'm sort of hoping for a TX MY.
Very well could be at that timing
We also placed an order for MY LR, no FSD, black/black with 20" wheels. I'd like to get standard wheels but I know I'll regret not having it. I have no DIY genes.
Ordered the same combo but with the two package! You definitely want the tow package because after market ones sux and you want to keep the beautiful machine clean!
Here in then uk still waiting to see a model y and I’m getting fed up and government grant in the uk is pathetic

Not sure why you would not get the FASTER wall charger to save a few hundred dollars while spending $60K+ on a new car!
Because it’s not necessary
Awesome recommendations and actually just placed my order for the Y. Will there be any major differences between the 2021 and 2022 and if I placed my order now i'm likely be delivered the 2022 right?
You’d get the 2022 if you ordered now
Thanks!

great video, man. but you remind me of that vince offer guy
Agreed
You can order just the bumper precut
I went to change to the 7 seater, but then I seen it was $3000 and decided I didn't need it. So, is it worth it?
Only if you’ll use it. It’s very tight back there and we only use when we have too.
Tesla should pay you. Switched from white to red.. 😂
Haha nice! You won’t regret getting the color you really wanted!
I want to lease…should i visit a dealer and make sure i get approved for leasing before i pay the $250?
You don’t visit a dealer, it’s all online
I changed my order to add the 3rd row, I never knew this affected the 2nd row- super helpful!
I know! It’s actually super versatile
I just got a standard range model y with the LFP battery and it is a sick 100% charging battery
informative, to the point, no filler, no shilling, no click begging.
thank you

So awesome, congrats on the new ride
We just got a m3p and have 3 kids but one being 12 and other 2 in boosters we found the cosco booster seats fit best.
@@brandon32689 Thanks.
"In about two weeks the beta FSD will be released to the public..."

I chuckled as well. Just today Elon updated it to 3 weeks for 10.1, which we probably won't get right away anyways :(
You have the best Model Y videos on YT. Ordered my Model Y config based on your recommendations AND some of the accessories, Cheers!
Thanks so much!!
The Xpel material was cut excellent with less stretching and more forgiving to work with
Good advice, thank you!
Has anyone told you that you have a very calming relaxing voice? Love the video btw! I wanted the red model Y so badly but husband said it’s a waste of money. We ended up getting black and I still regret it!
thanks so much! I am not a fan of the red personally, but everyone has their own taste.
Good points thanks for sharing
Cheers! Enjoy the red!!
Great video BTG! We bit the bullet for red with white interior ... never looked back. The white makes the car so "bright" to drive. It's a mood lifter for sure!

That's my build too and I think I'll go with the standard wheel.

Yep, live and learn. The inductions do look great though, and I love them
Good video! free with you on enhanced AP (I have it in my M3) BUT - phantom braking is a real menace, and frankly makes the current version of EAP unsafe in my opinion. I had it happen twice on a recent 5 hour highway trip, both times with no cars in front of me but large semi's right behind me. NOT good. Until Tesla resolves this, I won't use it - its just too dangerous.
This does need to be a thing of the past
Incredibly annoying. I don’t get how they can fail with such a basic thing as adaptive cruise control when this stuff has been out on the market since 2014 or even before. I don’t even use EAP, but if there are no lines on a road it will brake like crazy if a car comes from the opposite field.
I did the same road with an Enyaq - no problem. Considering how much we spent on our S I feel ripped off.
Dude. Seriously. Phantom braking is a HORROR. It really gets the old heart rate up on my drives to LA, for sure.
Hi nice job, I am asking around about the Ford about using the EV battery as the house battery?
Has Tesla made any comment about making a future offering in the EV range for that?
Please comment. K
They have not mentioned it but a lot of EV's seem to be moving in that direction.

Stay safe!
Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone. Cheers
Yea EAP is really what the people want!!
So awesome congrats and thanks so much for supporting the channel!

Looking into the Y right now, loved your video and your honesty, thank you. Subscribed.
Cheers
Love my little 3… There are many like her but this one is mine… Wish I put Rimsavers on her but that is on me…. Get a Tesla - you won’t regret it…
agreed
Just changed my Model Y order from default to red paint and white interior yesterday. Hopefully it won’t cause any further delays, but I think it’ll be worth it.
Also, good advice about ordering a second set of wheels to switch out.
Cheers!
I have that same combo on my Y, excellent choice!
If anyone orders now, be advised , Adding the color red and white seats will put you over the $55,000 cap forgetting the $7500 tax credit.
@@ArcticBuck that’s for model 3 performance only. You can get model 3 standard with red exterior and white interior for less than 55k.
I’d reserve right now lol. Delivery isnt estimated until April with a current order
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Glad I took your advice, I saved 2K! Also, thank you for addressing the Tax incentives/4680/casting question on the latest video!
I used Cargurus to sell mine. You can also use Facebook marketplace for locals!
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Thank you. I will do that.

I thought you can buy the SRMY off menu?
Also, I would say don't wait to buy your Tesla. They are holding value really well and you can always go upgrade, just like you did.
I personally wouldn’t wait either but I get why some do. SR off menu was a limited time thing. They are done for some time now
it might help keep it clean if the kids aren't eating chicken nuggets in the car. you're welcome.
I think this family lives off chick fil a
Great video.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m sure you are going to love the Tesla
Also pro tip for the car seats, you can purchase custom seat covers for $200-$400. You save the extra $700, can customize the color (red is a fav), you also protect the original seats from wear and tear. I personally still regret not purchasing the white interior, but luckily it's only a temporary lease.
Good tip
Thank you for the information. My husband and I were on the fence about some of the options so really liked how you described the pros and cons of each. Much appreciated!
Cheers
nicely done.. and this helped me a lot.
If you are going to tow, get the hitch with your order
Never too late to protect the front of the car. Congrats on you car by the way!
Fair point you have
Do you get a better 'mpg' with one vs the other? Wheels create a lot of drag, the fuller (more aerodynamic) the better
@@SWS1290 not out here, I tried to find inductions and they are like gold because everyone with urberturbines is after them in colder climates.
Where is the link for the PPF? Thank you so much, and as always, your videos are spot on!

Now you’ve got me thinking about changing the paint color from blue to red for the MY that’s due next month. I wonder how that will affect the arrival date?
That will probably impact your delivery timeline.
I would guess it will delay it, in addition any price increase that has occurred since your original order will be added in.
@@mantajim2269 OMG. That’s right. All the price hikes! Blue is good. I’m buying it for Turo anyhow. The next one can be red.
It’s hard to be sure on the white seats. We decided YOLO and went for it
@@BeardedTeslaGuy LOL. Next one!!
If you search there option for seat cover looks and feel like Tesla seat.
I got black Interior on my MY then bought white cover and I love it. you have to look at the door panel to know that I do not have original white seat from tesla because mine is still Black.

:) taking delivery of MY white on white in 2 days! Can't wait!
The LFP battery can charge faster than the nickel battery. Is Tesla still limiting super charger rates on LFP?
I was referring to a SR vs LR charging
@@BeardedTeslaGuy SR LFP is what I was referring.
That’s crazy. Sometimes I can’t believe the things service advisors say
