- In this video, I am comparing the new canned Wendy’s Chili with Beans to the chili at Wendy’s restaurant.
* The canned chili was $4.42 at Walmart.

I used to work at Wendy's. We used un used burgers that were cooked and chopped it up and put in in sauce. Best chilli I've ever had so far.
Did the rest of the chili come premade before you add the burger?
@@jonnytorch-er5igthe beans come in frozen, as does the soup base. They add the meat to the beans and the base and then add water because the base is a frozen concentrate, then heat.
Wendy's chili sure has changed. I bought tons dating a girl who worked there. A lot thicker back then.
That's a great use for it to eliminate waste.
@@jonnytorch-er5ig when I worked at Wendy's in the plasticine era the beans and tomatoes were canned(#10 cans) and the seasonings came in 1 big packet.
I finally tried it. It's probably the best canned chili you can buy but expensive. It's kinda accurate and tastes similar but a little different. I'd definitely buy it again but that price is a bit iffy. Hopefully they lower the price a bit.
Like 5 bucks yea it’s pretty pricey. I personally like making my own chili, but to save time I stuck with Krogers spicy chili beans which unfortunately don’t exist anymore.
It's decent, better than most all canned chili, but the best canned chili is Steak N' Shake
At $5.00 a can I can’t buy it. Way to high in cost
I worked in the restaurant industry for 32 years, I can almost guarantee the restaurant version is a little more watery because they add extra water to make it go further which helps their inventory cost.
Makes sense
So just add water
haha yeah, prob. I remember 99 cents. then 1.29, then 149, then 2 then...I gave up. glad this one is available. when a cup of watered down chili is over 2 dollars, im sorry, im out. you have to have food standards, and if the food cost is too high, you need to evaluate your menu choices,
No the can is better you can tell us more fresh because Wendy's chili is made with hamburger that didn't get eaten from the night before leftbover for those who didn't know
@@lewisgriffin9684 what are you talking about? Wendy’s doesn’t make burgers ahead of time to have leftover cooked hamburger for the next day. But it’s probably more watery and the can will always be consistent so of course it’ll probably be better
tried the canned the other day. LOVED IT!!! not sure it reminded me of the restaurant chile, per se, (its oddly sweeter - but I put brown sugar in my chili as a secret ingredient) but whatever, its now the ONLY canned ill buy. also, when doing head to head tests, its super important that the temp is as close as possible. the chemicals in the food hit your taste buds very differently with different temps. good video. thanks.
The only hindrance is that it’s 4.99. I get that it’s a famous brand chili, but half of 10 bucks for one can definitely puts it on a luxury scale of foods to buy rather than something to keep you goin for a week.
Homemade chili is the best
The canned chili is nice because you can keep it in your cabinet for a long time and just heat it up when you have a craving.
For someone who loves Wendy’s chili, this would be a great item to prepare with. If another pandemic lockdown or something ever happens again, it would be cool to have it on hand when you can’t get to the restaurant.
Yes. That's how canned goods work. Solid commentary.
Great review. I did buy me a couple cans, very convenient and do not have to drive to my nearest Windy's. Fills the void. Only thing though is I add 5 of those chili hot sauce packets in the Windy's restaurant chili, so no packets with the canned🙄
@@tarabooartarmy3654gonna be cool if you have 1000 of these cans after the nukes drop and you’re just eating wendys chili while the earth is engulfed in nuclear radiation
Or just eat it right out of the can when the zombie apocalypse happens 😂
The Wendy’s hot sauce is what makes the chili! I generally use 3-4 packs of the Wendy’s hot sauce per cup from the restaurant!
Ditto. 4 packs for me mate!
Me too
Mmmmm, same
I use Tobasco Sauce.
I LOVE Wendy's Chili and being able to buy it from Walmart with my other delivery order for the month is gonna be great. I have to do a Door Dash order for takeout because I don't have a car and there's no transportation where I live. Also very good for my stockpile for emergencies. Thank you for the great review.
the thing is, the chili in the can is made
from a set recipe. the chili from theactual
wendy's resteraunt is made by hand in their
factory so it may be hotter one time and
not so much another time.
The Wendy's chili in their restaurant in not made at a factory. It is made from old, unsold hamburger patties that have sat in a commercial refrigerator for up to two weeks. They chop up this old meat, boil it for safety and then add the rest of the ingredients.
I used to work for chili’s a few years back. They don’t make the chili fresh. It’s honestly packaged from a bag, and all they do is add it to a pot to heat it up.
@@snowflakehunterhere did you get this information from? I used to work for Wendy’s when I was in high school. It’s just packaged chili that’s heated up. They do add water to stretch it. No old hamburgers included.
@@Deeg504 the information is readily available online and I was a manager for Wendy's for quite some time.
@@snowflakehunter well I guess different locations have a different set of procedures, because I’ve never seen this done.
Good to hear. We have a salvage grocery store and I got 2 cans for 99 cents each. Haven’t tried it yet, but love Wendy’s chili
Almost $5 a can? Wow
It's a bargain for this old geezer who is mostly bedridden. I can open the can and pop the chili into the microwave and my meal is ready. I add a little Tobasco Sauce and the chili holds me for a good while.
Yeah, I was just posting about that, too! It's ridiculous, even with inflation. I would consider $3.50 a fair price. 😁 I would only pay $4-5 (our store, here charges 5) for a gourmet chili that came straight from a Michelin chef or something and I really wanted it! 😜
When I worked at Wendy's we used meat that was left on grill too long and set aside until needed for Chile. It was panned with water and heated until moist and then we chopped it with pan lid. We used veggies that were measured and frozen until used and beans were washed before adding and a pack of seasoning was added as well as water. Used large pot to cook until done and placed in serving pans as needed. As it sat in heating bin it would thicken so water was added to get it consistent.
Always heard the same thing.
This is correct. At one point, they had a chili pack with the beans and seasoning all in one. I used the Blodgett oven potato rack and chopped the meat up (it is a stainless steel rack and does a better job in the long pan). You can also tell that people are half chopping the meat as you get large pieces of hamburger. There are three reasons that the chili can be thinner. 1. When the chili is freshly made, it is always thinner, just like spaghetti sauce, needed additional time to thicken up. 2. When people combine residual old with fresh chili. 3. When people mention adding water, they are not adding water to stretch the chili because you can only hold it for so long, it is being added in most cases because they are not paying attention to the heat pan, and then it starts to dry out and you no longer have a water bath and the chili starts to dry out and if you wait to long it will burn and stick in spots. So, the water is used to help reconstitute the chili into something that looks like chili and not succotash. If I knew it was burnt in spots, I would pull the pan and scoop all from the top so as not to have to throw it all out. When he mentioned the sodium level, it is listed as high on the store version, and the reason is because of the seasoning of the meat. Also, you can tell which stores partially boiled meat before chopping it up because the ones that follow the actual steps, the partially boiling and draining, remove a larger portion of the sodium. Also, for the people who feel it is icky, Kentucky Fried Chicken does the same thing to make the pot pies, as they partially boil the chicken to help remove the skin and shred it. The same was true when Popeyes did their chicken etouffee: boil, desking, shred, combine with their gravy, boil/cook, and then serve over rice.
I never knew Wendy’s sold chili in a can
I had no idea they sold that in stores.
They just stared I thank I told them I believe
That's too expensive for a can of chili.
I'll just stick with Stagg chili for $2.00.
I love Stagg chili!
Wolf Brand Home Style Chili is better and cheaper.Stagg Brand Chili is great too.
I too tried both canned and from Wendy's restaurant. In my opinion the canned chili was very good but the fresh, restaurant chili was more flavorful, tasted fresher, a little thinner but more flavorful. I didn't care about the calories but the amount of chili in the can and in the restaurant cup was about the same.
Note; I recommend Wendy's restaurant chili. It tastes fresher and has more flavor. A thumbs up ! ! !
I may try but kinda pricey. I tried Hormel, not bad tho I put some brown sugar to cut the acid. I see Walmart has Marie Calendar Chili much less I believe 1.75. I definitely try that. Good review as usual.
The fresh chili looks a lot better to me 🤷🏻♀️
Neither are fresh frfr, I worked both
@Zach Joyce nah its not really burger scraps 😂 its just ground beef
@zachj1730 hamburger that's been on the grill for to long
Easily the best "canned" chili I've ever eaten. Blows hormel out of the water
hormel is bland
I disagree. I didn’t like it. I grew up on hormel and I’ll continue eating it.
does no one like wolf brand chilli ??
@@A0L2S9K3Wolf is #1
@@markcaruthers8619 ✌️
I love Wendy's chili even though they use the leftover hamburger patties that weren't used during the day. I know I use to work there.
That’s amazing that they do that - do you know much food they would waste if every single Wendy’s threw the day old Pattie’s away even though they’re not “old” and could’ve been reused ?
@@reneebby705 They should not ever need to toss day old patties. How can they have day old patties, if they cook to order? I don't go to Wendy's any longer. I got a burger late at night, drive thru, 2 minutes. I asked is this Fresh cooked? He told me yes. I ate in my car in the parking lot. Temperature wise, luke warm.
How can a freshly cooked burger only be luke warm in 1 minute? Because they lied to me that it was freshly cooked. It was reheated from a burger they didn't sell earlier. They don't cut corners? Non-sense. Not true.
This is an excellent review and comparison! One of the things I love about wendys chili is that slow burn you get with a cup. Good to know the can has a bit of a difference. Im betting you are right they slacked off on the seasoning so we can season it to taste at home. Sounds like the canned price is just not worth getting tbh. I will wait in line ❤
Please do this but with Panera Mac and Cheese.
I have not had the canned version yet, but I do like it from the restaurant.
I wonder if they were trying to make the canned version similar to the restaurant version or if they just saw an opportunity to put their brand name on something.
What I do to bring the canned chili to store level is add water, MSG, and a little acidity from lime juice and vinegar. The canned chili lacks the acidity the restaurant chili has. I also add 3/4 TSP of cayenne & 1/4 TSP chili flakes. Tiny amount of black pepper (don’t overdo this). A little cilantro. This further improves it. Heat the canned chili on a stove, too; you can heat up and mix the chili better this way. Turned out great.
As long as it similar taste I will be buying them I can get those gold hot chili sauce packets from Wendy's and some saltines and I'm in heaven . I lost my first 10 pounds on Wendy's chilli and they small salads for lunch yumm
I have a friend who did the same… it’s a healthy option
Regardless of taste and quality, I’m surprised it would be cheaper to purchase fresh from the restaurant. I think I’d always choose fresh over canned especially if it’s cheaper. Liked this different format video😁👍🏻. Thanks for the review Kevin.
The reason it is cheaper at the restaurant is due to the nature of licensing. Chili straight from Wendy's and made by Wendy's is cheaper because only Wendy's is involved in the process. The canned Wendy's chili is made by ConAgra through a licensing agreement between the two companies. Now, both of these companies want to make a profit on the same product. Hence the higher price. And the sad thing is, it is not even Wendy's chili, nor is it Wendy's recipe. They just made an agreement to use the Wendy's name and likeness.
@@snowflakehunter thanks that was very interesting!
@@bklondon75deliciousnesswit64It really was interesting. I was surprised. I actually learned real facts on the internet. Best comment I have looked at today. That is what RUclips comments should be.
Whenever I made a run to Wendy's for some sort of combo, my father would want only some chili and nothing else, even when I was buying. I wish I liked Skyline, but I cant get past the "pumpkin spice" flavor profile.
I think the burger in the chili is actually left over burgers used to make chili vs going to waste - great idea! I like Wendy's chili and actually today I bought the canned - haven't yet though! I didn't realize you could get canned Wendy's chili! Hope it's good!
I'm trying to remember because if I recall somebody else used to do that very same thing about using hamburger from the night before oh I know, MOM!
What stores do you get the canned Wendy's chille?
Thr restaurant also gives you them hot Chilli seasoning packets.
I haven't tried that one but the steak and shake chili in a can is awesome for canned chili much better than hormel or armour which tastes like the can.
Someone who once worked at Wendy's told me that the meat in the chili was repurposed from the unsold hamburger patties from the previous day. For my part im OK with that. I like their chili.
Surprisingly good! I make a batch of fries in the air fryer, ladle some of the chili over it, hit it with some Chipotle Tabasco Sauce and a couple of generous handfuls of shredded cheese. Then I put it in the oven and broil it for a good 5 minutes or so and take it out. Then a couple of spoonfuls of sour creme on top and some green onions and black olives. Delicious!!!
Damn Ken you had me so confused when at first your said the $4.42 Wendy Chili 15oz can was less expensive then the $3.49 restaurant 15oz container of hot Chili but then you corrected yourself to say the Can cost more. I hope you know the weight of any food purchased in stores does not include the container weight. Any hoot, I love Wendys chili and use to have it 2-3 times a week when I was younger and looking to save on food prices when it was just .99 cents.
Should be 1.49 a can
I was not aware that Wendy’s had a can chili. I add cheese, sour cream and onions to the restaurant one and my Hormel chili at home gets cheese and sour cream. I will have to look for this. Thanks for another great review! Have a terrific weekend!
It's brand new. Most places don't have it yet. Hopefully by this summer it will be readily available.
Saltines are my favorite! I'm going to look for this chili at walmart. I like having good chili around for chili cheese dip.
Way back in the late 90's I based my chili on Wendy's chili. I buy the Bush's Pinto and Kidney beans already in chili sauce. Then I dice a onion and a green bell pepper throw them in with 1/2 lb of ground beef while it's cooking. Put all the beans in a large soup pot with some diced tomato's then add the beef onion and bell pepper. Then I add 16 ounces of water plus a small can of tomato sauce and a 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder and mix well. Then bring it too a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer stirring every 5-10 minutes for 45 minutes. Then let it cool for 1 minute and serve.😋
THX Ill try this
The price,is insane!
Except in summer, I get the chili as a side in a combo. Wendy's fries have improved, but I like chili! Appreciate the review as I saw in the news this was coming out, but yet to see it in my grocery.
Thanks Kevin for letting me know about the can chill
The canned chilli is nice for convenience of having it at home and heating it up whenever. Honestly though, if you've got a Wendy's nearby, you're going to get more bang for your buck going in and picking it up there. You can even call in if you've got a large order and they'll usually have it ready by the time you get there to pick it up.
If they're selling the chili at walmart they really need to sell the hot chili sauce too, liquid gold.
More like liquid crack. I'll put it on other savory foods and it gets massive milage in added flavor.
@@kevinb5417more like “liquid shit” since it’s crap.
We had it 2 days ago and neither of us were impressed. It was no better than any other canned chili. Because of our age and health we look for shortcuts in cooking but I'll just continue to make our chili in the crock-pot.
That's kind of expensive for a can of chili. Especially from Walmart.
Great review!!! I used to love Wendy’s chili- it’s like the kind our family in Ohio makes. Nobody in Texas eats that kind of chili, so it’s been a great treat throughout the years. However, three years ago it made me deathly ill twice and I’ll never eat it again. 😂
Oh wow!! Food poisoning??
I had my first ever experience with food poisoning from crab legs a few months ago
No one cares about Texas and their shit-chili
I've been making my own copycat Wendy's Chili which also have that little bit of burn like the restaurant. I have bought extras ones to bring home with me and freeze as well. But I bought a can of Wendy's yesterday at Walmart because I wanted to see if it has that can taste like all other canned chili. If I like the can Chili it will be convenient for me when I haven't made any and don't want to go to the restaurant. So I will be visiting this video again to give my opinion.
You did a Good review and had a full belly in the end 😂❤
Didn't even know they had it in stores and saw it in the chilli aisle for $4.99. I needed to know how it compared to the restaurant and saw your video, nice review it was in depth.
Wendy's Chili is my favorite so i'm glad i watched this so i have an idea what the can version tastes like and it sounds like ot is probably very close to tasting like the restaurant versin so i will be buying the can and trying it!
I get the Wal mart brand Chili and add a can of Rotel to it,and some Mexene,Cumin and Black pepper. Top it with Grated Cheddar , minced onions , Tabasco and some Fritos Corn Chips. All set.
I like the restaurant version better then anyone else's in fast food. The canned version good also. If you'd like more kick just put a teaspoon of your favorite pepper sauce in it or to taste. If you'd like additional sweetness my recommendation is add a half tablespoon of Karo syrup to it rather then sugar, then ending up with it to sweet.
first let me say i love Wendy's chili so its naturally a good bet for me to try the can . i bought some at Walmart and it was very good not exactly like the store but still very good lots of real meat not like many chili brands were is fake meat
Try Texas roadhouse chili steak&shake was my fav till i tried roadhouse 🏚
Ir ConAgra makes it it is Van Camps chili with some things added VC also makes Wolf chili.
I didn’t realize that Wendy’s sold their chili in the canned. So bad they only have with beans.
Ya never know, if it is a hit, they could do that, but I doubt it. Gotta be some chili sin carne next shelf up.
The last time I went and got their chili it was like 90 percent beans .10 percent meat.i won't buy it again
Wendy's canned chilli made by Con-Agra. They also make TV dinners! :P
Skyline is in a totally different category. It’s more of a sauce to be put on pasta, or they sell a thicker version for hot dog chili. Bad comparison to mention it when testing chili con carne.
Thank you for this review! I believe you must be the first channel to review this new product. I will try it as soon as it becomes available in my area!
I haven’t had Wendy’s chili since the 80’s and to be honest, I don’t remember it being that good? Might have to give it a try it again to see if my opinion has changed. I make a couple different homemade chili recipes (one in the crockpot and one on the stove) so I’m kind of thinking a mass market brand like this will come off as a tad bland - guess we’ll see………🤔
Der Weinerschnitzel canned chili FTW
The canned chili looked like Wolf Brand chili to me. Both canned and restaurant are more expensive than most brands which isn't good. I make my own so I control the amount of spices and ingredients.
I love wendy’s canned chilli!
The canned version was expensive when i read the description but so is everything else i am absolutely a huge fan of the restaurant wendys chili
Its $4.00+ per can. I will not be buying this from grocers
Ok
I've bought the canned Wendy's chili and really don't care for it I was expecting it to be the same but no...I love the restaurant chili best. I do know from eating Wendys chili at different locations the chili is made just a bit different but still love it anyway. I always get an order of French fries to eat with my chili. Bye from Ohio🌹
I am surprised that it is not prepared as a frozen entree for the microwave.
Just did a comparison... Wendy's with beans is twice the price of Wolf Brand without beans. I would never ever buy Wendy's.
I just can't do canned chili. Even for chili dogs, I make my own. I have certain seasonings and add-ins that canned can't even touch. I would take it to work in Pyrex bowls as Ziploc containers stain. Thank you Kevin.
snob.
Bought 6 cans at sams for 3.33 each. Still good price but i figure its decent price for a quick meal substitute. Figured I'd give it a try
Thanks for the video. I might have to try that even though it is more expensive than getting it at the restaurant lol.
It's supposed to have sugar and it's probably reason today other can one don't have the spice because it's supposed to have a little bit of red pepper and cayenne pepper to give it as the kick
It seems like what you're saying is that the canned version is not as spicy as the restaurant version, I wanted to try the canned one at Walmart but it was out of stock and yes, a little pricey! 😡
Make your own chilli with no canned ingredients. Best policy for good Chilli.
I added cheese and onions like I ordered at Wendy's and its just as good to me.
I'd add a dash of Cayenne pepper to give it a little kick. I'll buy a can next time i'm at Walmart.
I am in love with your review. Thanks
What do I do when I go in Wendy’s. I tell them stirred up first. Then pull it up from the bottom. And put it in the cup. That way you get more product than a juice
Stir in a figure 8, from the bottom to the top, ooohhh chilli can be served with cheese.
Thanks for the comparison!
I hear the restaurant puts the leftover burger patties in it from the day before
I liked the original Wendy's chili. When they "improved" it years ago, they ruined it.
PRICE UPDATE: The price now on the large size chili is $4.64 (tax incl.) at my local Wendy's restaurant. The canned Wendy's chili is $4.42. Bottom line I'm buying the canned version for stocking my pantry and convenience to have on hand.
not at $5/can
Tin is 1 $
I just don't see how that small can is worth that much ..I just found it at a cost +10% store and it was almost 5 bucks... I love Wendy's chili but there's no way the stuff in the can compares to their restaurant chili. Just about all canned chili has that orange color and most of them are gut grenades... my uncle told me they used the leftover burger patties to make chili at Wendy's, I don't know what they do but I love it! Closest thing to homemade chili you can find anywhere!
Have to say I am a Wendy's chili fan They make the restaurant in store chili with hamburger mistakes and bag and freeze. You read where employees say don't eat it. The problem I have too is you get different version depending on who makes it and many times it is not up to temp. I will try th he store chili to see if it is compatable in taste. Thanks for the review.
t
I suspect Wendy's spent years and $$$ trying to make a canned chili close to their own. I like Hormel with beans adding extra chili powder, so who am I to judge? In a pinch, it all comes down to cost and to what I have access.
I make my own chili. Better than canned and more consistent than the restaurant version. Among canned chili you can't beat Wolf brand on taste and price.
Wolf chili is the best canned chili ! 😋 haven't tried Wendy's canned, too expensive! I priced it yesterday, and I'll stick to the cheaper ones.!
Cool,This is on my aisle at work.🥰
I eat Wendy's canned chili all the time. I can't stand any other canned chili. I put a little Tabasco Sauce in it to spice it up a bit. Yummy.
Very informative and good to know...I'll see if my Walmart has this yet. 😊
I like it. Just needs the wendys hot sauce packets
For the price I'd rather go to Wendys on BOGO chili Tuesdays where you can get 2 large chilis for around $5 and YOU MUST have the hot chili sauce!
Great great great review Kevin thank you 👍❤️💪
I had no idea they sold Wendy's canned chili.
It's new
Traditional canned chili like Hormel's and Libby's, are always disapppointing, so i think that I will try the Wendy's.
You can’t really judge chili until the following morning.
I love their chili. The can is good , I like the restaurant better
