Great review. Amazing that you filmed the meal experience. Love the way you cover every aspect of your meals (bread, butter, etc.). And the squint - wonderful!
FYI, the salmon spread is called salmon rillette... Poached salmon with lemon, herbs, usually butter/sour cream/ mayonnaise or some combination thereof. Basically a better version of butter that you spread on bread as a canape.
@SeraphimLeo except that I’m almost certain that UE was wrong that it was actually mayonnaise. I enjoy his videos, but not because he has the most sophisticated palate or offers especially accurate descriptions of what he’s eating

UA - Truly enjoy your content, and your honest reviews. But, big sandwiches and portion sizes don't apply at a place like this. Judge on the quality not the quantity of the food
I dont think ordering a lunch menu is the best for a place like this. If you are going here you got to go for the $325 pre fixe menu. Yes, its expensive but thats the cost of doing business at a place like this. Do the review when you are ready but do right by them. Going for the lunch menu is equivalent to going to a great steakhouse and getting their smallest steak. Sure you get a snapshot of what its like, but its not like getting a porterhouse or ribeye.
This is a good point. Having done all the menus at LB over the years, the journey that the tasting menu takes you on really puts the restaurant on another plane.
Disagree. Attaining Michelin stars means maintaining standards across the board and treating all guests equally regardless of their ability to pay for the top end menu.
Look pretty much only the one percenters can walk in and order whatever they want . Yes the more you spend the higher quality and more choices you’ll have sometimes the only difference is the dishes will have more and higher quality caviar or large fresh slices of the finest Truffles depending on the time of year and season . But even ordering the least expensive Pice Fix lunch menu with choices and only 3 courses should be able to show the quality and presentation and service of a 3 Michelin Star restaurant. You did a fabulous job reviewing especially keeping your head down for the no video or photography rule which makes sense . They don’t want other restaurants copying their signature dishes and plating and garnishment as well as respecting the privacy of their extremely high class under the radar very high net worth and celebrity clientele.
There is a place in Montreal that's a short plane ride from New York. It's called Au Pied de Cochon. They have amazing food and I am sure you'd love it.
Very excited to see that you gave Le Bernadin a try. I went there for lunch a few years ago. I didn’t find it too “stiff”. It looked like it had an older customer base from what I could catch of your video.
I have had lunch there twice. Like you, I think it is good and not overpriced for what it is. Like you, it would not be in my top NYC restaurants. My wife and I did Daniel for dinner on an anniversary, and that sent us over the moon.
More stars = More money = less food. I've been to MANY Mich star places. One place that has consistently caught my eye is French Laundry in CA. If you watch Anthony Bourdain's trip there, it's a LONG experience with a ton of courses. At this point, I'm basically over Michelin star places. It's SO expensive, and just nuts. Im tired of going to places, + 1500$ later, for 2 people.
French Laundry actually is a good "value" as a Michelin 3 star restaurant, as funny as that sounds, since the tip is included in the price. There truly is a lot of course that showcase their culinary prowess.
I ate at the Fat Duck for my wife's 40th birthday, there were 6 of us and it came to like 2 grand, so not cheap. Was great though - although as usual eventually even the expertly chosen wine just started tasting like wine to me :) the chicken liver parfait was the actual best thing I'd ever eaten. Keep going UA! also why are you called UA?
Regarding the octopus Id only add that “the usual” menu consists of more dishes (5-/8-/… plus courses) and therefore 5 pieces of the octopus are a perfect amount of food for that starter-dish. If choosing the 3-course-lunch or -dinner this may seem “too scarce” but it is created for those eating the full menu at the restaurant.
The pricing was a deal! Remember, you’re paying for the service and environment as well: an orchestral experience, a memory. I’ve been lucky to go to several Michelin starred restaurants but not Le Bernadine yet.
I cannot stand when people complain about small portions at fine dining restaurants. the point is to experience unique food bites. not got stuffed. you want quantity, go to golden corral
@@roboliver9980 I never leave hungry. It’s all about the courses. 7 courses or more winds up being a lot of food. If each one was a large serving, it’d be like a food challenge rather than a relaxing dinner. Order the wine pairing with your meal, and you’ll be struggling to finish
Who's talking about getting stuffed, I'm a small person and on average eat one good meal a day and maybe a light salad in the evening. I have left Michelin restaurants and was still hungry.
You can experience good food in a bit larger quantities for sure. Sometimes it is indeed too little. You don't need to get stuffed, just need a little more, for convenience

IMO the very best and consistent restaurant in Manhattan. The seafood is prepared unlike any other restaurant I have ever been to and the overall experience is hard to equal. I know the $325 tasting menu is steep, but that is really the sweet spot for LeBernadin. Love the squinting UA
Never been there but love the owner (from Bourdain show) but UA must 'save up' for the full course, NOT the lunch special. Once a year or lifetime splurge is no big deal; not eating there on a regular basis.
@@johnc3886 Agreed. I have gone there 4-5 times in my lifetime and I am my mid 60s. (and have lived around NYC my entire life). Since I am now retired, I won't be back given the price point. It's ok though, as I am glad that I actually went when I could. Stay well and best to you and your family.
Plainly your tastes skew toward mid quality and big quantity. Le Bernardin offers refinement, elegance and subtle touches that you can only find at the top of fine cuisine. I can tell from your comments that you neither sensed nor knew how to recognize the full dimensions of the food you were served. Stick to pastrami and steaks which you know better.
just a heads up, most fine dining dishes with sauces like this are meant to be eaten with spoons so you get the right portions of sauce etc. unless you’re cutting w a knife and fork with a meat dish or heartier dish that needs cutting etc or turning the fork over and using the knife to slick over a puree that is thicker its different. you would get more of the effect a dish is supposed to have using a spoon far more for most dishes in this realm of dining.

Fish don't eat grass
Wow, UA is going upscale today; no ribs and brisket meals served here. That's a great great restaurant, enjoy! 😊
I cannot stand when people complain about small portions at fine dining restaurants. the point is to experience unique food bites. not got stuffed. you want quantity, go to golden corral
The ones I’ve been to may not have huge portions yet neither do they leave you hungry. Being left hungry at huge expense is not justifiable.
I understand the point is not to be stuffed, but for the price, would it really hurt to give you more?
You can experience good food in a bit larger quantities for sure. Sometimes it is indeed too little. You don't need to get stuffed, just need a little more, for convenience
Great and honest review UA ... and the music is infinitely better 🤣👍
It was a shit review by someone who has a palate of a 8yr old.
Thanks for sharing a place I’d never go to even if I had substantial disposable income. I want value and decent portions for my dining experience. Nice review though, and great that you were still able to record, albeit underhandedly.
The prix fix many was HOW many dollars now??
Problem is, food doesn't get much better from $20 to $100. In other words, a $100 steak is not 5 times better than a $20 steak.
That $20 steak is more like $50 these days
that's why a lot high end restaurant tasting menus don't have steak anymore..... if they do, will be A5 wagyu...
Cmon man, if you’re looking for huge serving then clearly you did not research much.
I couldnt tell if you liked the fish or not when you took the first bite. 🤣🤣 But it was all happiness!
I love those mini-chocolate-snowshoes on the dessert. Inspired.
I've only visited the US once. Wasn't overly impressed by the food. What restaurants in NYC are truly worth the money? Thanks a lot for advice!
The US is big and each region has different types of food. NYC would be good for chinese food , pizza and hotdogs.
Sincere thanks. Planning a journey.
The food looks amazing-I think it's a fair price for such an iconic resto.
I think you could use a Saline Drip lol. I hear you make lack of salt comments from almost every video. SALLLLLLLLT, Stat!@
Another enjoyable video! I loved the “undercover” aspect.
I can see the appeal, but I think there must be better uses for $127.
porterhouse for 2
There is always some other thing to spend your money on, but life gets a bit boring thinking like that.
if $127 does not break your bank, then give it a try...... if you don't like it then just don't go back.....
@@fatdoi003 I suppose it depends on taste. I may have been turned off because I'm not a fan of octopus or salmon.

Never change! You are authentic and I enjoyed your honest, UA take on Le Bernadin.
If you're complaining about portion size, you should stay out of Michelin starred restaurants. It's about service and quality
Lol! The absurd pretentiousness is duly noted.
just a heads up, most fine dining dishes with sauces like this are meant to be eaten with spoons so you get the right portions of sauce etc. unless you’re cutting w a knife and fork with a meat dish or heartier dish that needs cutting etc or turning the fork over and using the knife to slick over a puree that is thicker its different. you would get more of the effect a dish is supposed to have using a spoon far more for most dishes in this realm of dining.
