We intended this to be a sinking Titanic video with an on-board camera, but temperatures were too cold for the waterproof camera to operate, so that'll have to wait until spring.
In the meantime, here's the 30" Titanic model from our other videos, this time shot from different angles and including sound - listen for the whistling of air escaping during the final plunge. The model is by Academy-Minicraft, with custom modifications including "iceberg damage" and special interior compartmentalization and sealing. Considering it's been 2 years since the last sinking of this model, we think it's held up pretty well.
Approximate time for this sinking was three minutes. I have slowed the video by 25% from the 1:10 mark onward.
Thanks for your continued interest!
@freerunneris Yeah, I was wondering when someone would make that accusation. The fishing line is for recovery only; I don't pull on it till the thing's on the bottom and I need to get it back. The reason the model starts sinking faster at 1:25 is because that's the point at which there's finally enough of a weight/buoyancy imbalance to cause a critical loss of stability. After that point, any ship sinks very quickly. See our other videos.
But if you'd rather just scream "FAKE," that's fine.
Captain: "The captain always goes down with his ship."
*Takes off captain hat and gives to the poopdeck sweeper*
Captain: "Goodluck with that."
Poopdeck guy: *sighs*
What amazes me is how the model actually sinks like they say it did. Absolutely amazing.
Interesting how the physics remain the same, regardless of size of the ship
in 73 years will you discover it?
It's at some point in your life when you turn around and think... "Why the hell am I watching Titanic models sinking?"
Does this model have a actual interior? such as rooms etc?
It sank so slowly, it looked amazing.
I have searched the 7 internets to find a good image of the damage for one of my own models and I remembered your videos from a few months ago. Thank you
@manxD3 Thanks! Bought the model from a hobby shop - it's meant to be a static model for display; I had to do custom modifications to make it float (at first), then sink.
Best Titanic Sinking Sequence yet. You did a good job, showing the second half staying up a little bit, like it did in the movie.
@MrDunkJunk Thanks for the compliments! This model is actually polystyrene (plastic) painted with enamel, so it's holding up very well. Only sinking damage so far is some corrosion on the railings, which are part of a brass detailing kit.
Childhood dream!!! 😍😍😍
@demonhybrid13 Yes - modified a 30" Academy Minicraft kit to sink "properly." Thanks!
I really like the camera angels, and the sound. It was fun that you made another vid about your sinking model, I´ve watched the first time countless times. The colour of the model seems to be waterproof, to. Very nice model.
lmao i just loved the sound of the bubbles when it was sinking
Best one i have seen on the internet.Really good job.
That was such a pleasure to watch at 0.25 speed!
This is the best sink I have ever seen on RUclips and u even have it in the ice water just perfect. Good job liked ur video!!!
It's amazing & really good.... I impressed & love this sinking Titanic Model... best camera angles.....!!!!!!!
WOW I'm amazed at how close to the real sinking this is....good job!
Thanks for the compliment.
Very true re: the earlier model. I built the 30" model seen here with much more attention to how fast the water was entering the hull, and how I could slow or stop it.
It was a pleasure playing with you guys tonight.
@movieman175 Thanks! It sure beats the sinking rate of the 18" Revell from "Model Titanic Sinks." We musta learned something.
Thanks for watching!
Sinking is just like the real sinking gj guys, also nice work on the painting for the realistic iceberg cut
1:23 R.I.P Captain Smith :'(
This is pretty cool! I like how the stern kind of pauses right before the final plunge, just lilke in the actual sinking.
make a britannic sinking model plzzz
you model sinks at a much more slower rate and it give the model a realistic look because it is such a slow sinking good job it looks like the same angle as used in the titanic movie great job!
@SuperTitanicfreak That's how we designed her. :)
As an titanic-expert and model-fan i can imagine how many work is in such a modified model! Honor the user for this video! Honored them!!! Honored them! Hurraah!!!
the video is good
Dude!!!! Do you know how perfect that was???!!! 5 stars!
Watch our newer TItanic videos for that. :)
I have to admit. This is pretty cool. Can't wait to see the one that splits. Nice work.
many people would have survived if titanic had sank like this
Awesome job! no music, no special effects... just a nice good sinking. Based off of the latest expedietion saying her stern never raised like that well... expert forensics aside your model sinks just as originally thought! good job!
Pulled it right back to the surface with the fishing line mentioned at the top of the video. Too many man hours spent on this thing to let it sit on the bottom forever.
That was one of the best MODELS of... well anything i ever saw! That was great!
That would be sick if it ended up breaking down the middle.
It's so eerie seeing it sink pretty much the exact same way...
@atmhso Point me to where it says that's our intention, and I'll be sure to edit it.
that was sick dude! you made it look very realistic ! :O
Most epic think that i ever see!!!
That had to have been the best Titanic models sinking I've seen yet. I plan on doing the same thing with mine if I ever finish my model. The starboard side bow rail was broken off when I first bought it so I either need to buy a new one or order another part
I call shenanigans! I saw no Leonardo DiCaprio or Winslet in the water afterwards...
Thanks! This is the model by Academy-Minicraft ... hobby shops should have them. You might also try a Google search.
@zZMysticNightmareXx Yes; check out the website in the video description for more info on how this model was altered to sink.
Love the bubbling sound mate.
try with the music "welcome in rapture" : awesome and tragical...
I've been studying the Titanic for five years and thats the best color of smoke stack I've seen.
make more videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Incredibly accurate, I wish I had a model Titanic.
I though it split in half :(
that was really realistic, great job!
no wonder so many people died 0:18 no lifeboats!
That was very good nice and slow.I think everybody has the same idea when we build one.
Cool
@BigDenny1020 Yeah, I definitely ran into that problem earlier on. The issue is that once the well deck/fo'c'sle is under, you have both more opportunity for water to enter the ship (and so a greater flow rate), and a ship that's more unstable (and thus a faster tipping propensity). Can't do anything about the instability, but you *can* seal the upper decks as much as possible to reduce the flooding rate - which is what I did.
Rapidnadion love your models fantastic...
me fan you.
rms titanic forever n1
@Rapidnadion suppose so, everyone's gotta have a hobby and you seem to be doing this pretty well, so keep doing it :D
@plusplusplusplusp You got it - all paint is enamel, not water-based. All the adhesive is either waterproof superglue, CA glue, or waterproof caulk.
@historyfan1000 Bulkheads are plastic, affixed with waterproof caulk. Iceberg damage was as easy as heating an X-Acto knife, then painting some of the scrape details.
@brickerproductions Congrats on your new model! You've been a fan for a while, so you've definitely seen our website, and probably seen the how-to video we posted for the splitting Titanic model ... aside from those, we're kind of dry on tips. Post to our Facebook wall if you run into specific problems and we'll try to help!
I can't wait to see the video with the Camera attached
Wow this is a perfect replica of what happened on the Titanic WOW!!!! I have a kid in my art class her great great grandmother survived the sinking of the titanic she swam to one of the lifeboats brrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
Bravo! Bravo!!! This pretty much replicated the exact sinking.. Quite amazing I must say.. The only thing i can add, is it would be fun to place a bunch of small white mice on there to simulate the people running to the rear of the ship as the water rose.. But quite a remarkable sinking for sure!
@Rapidnadion Thank you and I can't wait to see a titanic model that breaks in half :)
The way it has sunk on your video unbroken portrays exactly what cientists has found out about its sinking. It sank entire and that made it float in vertical position, with its stern on the top for some minutes, but the heavy weight damaged its hull and when it finally plunged under water, some minutes later and meters from the water surface, it was torn apart into two pieces which dove into the ocean and ended up laid on the bottom of the sea about 500 meters apart from each other.
@deathrider798 How do you figure? We retrieve it after every sinking, the sinkings don't damage the model, and we built it specifically to sink like this. Also, people enjoy watching it. Where's the waste?
wow that is absolutely fantastic. you did a great job
Very good, much better than my old attempt.
Brilliant! Very impressive. Now if you could just design a model that will tear through the body to simmulate the breaking and sepperations. It'll be a great breakthrough. My idea has always been to use very thin tinfoil that'll tear very easily when some light stress gets put on it. To get the stern to lift up vertically is actually very easy once the foil tore. Just put some weights right on the front of the stern at the bottom. It'll also help with the tearing.
@Michael14gtb15 Bulkheads are made of scrap plastic (cut-up credit cards and floppy disks, I think). Berg damage was cut with a heated Exacto knife (be careful if you try this), then painted with gray detail.
@krazykilla9 Haha - thanks! It's great to be able to share it with so many people who also like weird stuff.
ur titanic model is so perfect!
Someone: Hey rapid nation, whats your hobby?
RapidNation: I uhh... I like to sink boats on my free time.
@DeadKevTheKnife Maybe it's because I've had a few beers, but I giggled. This can stay.
@avmf8 Did you miss the closeup of the iceberg damage at 00:22 ? There are a number of holes cut into the hull, which is how it floods. The interior is also subdivided with bulkheads like the real ship, which is why it sinks the way it does.
lol that's pretty cool! i used to have the same model except I turned it into a diorama of the Titanic underwater. would make a vid of it but I gave it away lol.
that...
was actually very cool!^^
very nice build! it sinks just as slow as the original
you even sank it in icy cold waters! james cameron would be proud!
@Rapidnadion i mean really nice video, and nice modeling. Darn good job!!
@edd0jjr Thanks! This is as big as our models get - it's hard to find widely-available Titanic models bigger than 1/350 (30"). Our newer videos (the [Model Titanic Splits] series and the [Titanic Breakup Failures] series) are filmed at higher speed, allowing us to have smoother slow-mo playback, and the models appear to be bigger than they are in this video.
@starwarsfandude Yeah; that happens with any of these models meant only for display, unless you weight them. You need to figure out the weight you need by floating the model in a bathtub (or other test basin) and gradually adding weight until it floats properly at the waterline. Then secure the weight to the interior; otherwise, it will slide all over the place and the model will become unstable.
@massblast92 Haha - thanks a lot! We're due to have a splitting Titanic out by the end of summer (hopefully next month, if we can fix some minor problems). Stop by again!
@gladgurkan91 Thanks for the kind words! The paint is largely Testors enamel, both brushed and sprayed, so yes it's waterproof.
best one yet!!!
Beautiful model of this great ship.
May all the victims rest in peace.
@TheMaroonflyer That's "RapidNaDion." :) Thanks for visiting - we purchased this particular model from a marine supply store, but you can find it on eBay and at most larger hobby shops. It's the 1/350 Academy-Minicraft Titanic.
awesome sinking! i wish it did sink like that in real life...rather than breaking between the 3rd and 4th funnel.
wow amazing, done very well and jsut like the movie :)
@marioisawesome123 No; this is a 1/350 Academy Minicraft kit, made of plastic. Much more detailed than Lego.
That was pretty cool!
I like how it has the small patch of field ice behind it. adds to the realism...coincidently we have the same model...ive got the 1/350 deluxe minicraft
Exellent model and video friend. Sinking was great too.
Did you build that model? And did it have watertight compartments like the real titainc did? I'd tried to find one for myself to make but I ran into dead ends.
@JZZ31 Tried to find your old attempt on your Channel page ... did you not film it?
Great video!
Very well done. The pace of the sinking and the manner in which the ship physically sank were accurate. B+ overall. Why? Would have liked to have seen a more action of the ship sinking from the bow, the stern doesn't do it for me all the way through. An explanation as to how you managed to make the water flood so evenly would have been nice.
And it breaking in two would have been cool if that was manageable.
I believe the model has about 9 compartments, with special modifications to the aft-most and forward-most bulkheads and compartments. Thanks for the compliment!
