Hi y’all. My wife of 20 years and I are in the process of selling everything and retiring there permanently. My wife is the same as Wilma. She’s the reluctant one, afraid I wont like it. We made our minds up about 8 months ago. Retiring at 58. 5 months to go! Found out quickly it’s ALOT of planning and timing. No debt, house paid off, and still, finding it hard to make ends meet with the inflation here. We’ve always lived simple. Growing our own food. Chickens, garden, honeybees. We plan on doing the same there. The hardest part of this move is getting rid of the house and “stuff.” It’s not as easy as I thought. Can’t just hop on a plane without a good plan. Really enjoy your channel and hope we can be as successful as y’all.

Ya know @jawjafilipino, in looking ahead (planning) to make a move to the Php, that's one of my biggest concerns; how in the world do I get rid of or let go of, all the 'stuff' I've collected/aquired over the past 50 -60 years?? I'm not sure I'm able to do that. I have been thinking about down-sizing to a small lot, garage and tiny home here (South Carolina) for a base to come back to and visit, but I don't know. I am open for any thoughts.....

    • @JawjaFilipino

We’ve made up our minds. We’re done with being a slave to “things”. If I stay here, I’ll have to work until I die. If I retire and make the move, we will have a much better lifestyle there.

Balikbayan boxes worked for us. We shipped 35 of them here. Antiques, tools, clothes etc. Feels good to downsize, less to worry about.

We made our decision more than 7 years out. We already had a house here. Kind of had the same thought process. We definitely changed our way of living. We paid off everything and prepared. Retired at 60 and finished up things in the U.S. Got here in October of this year. We already had our home, but we are renovating it now. Absolutely enjoying this decision. The hardest part is being away from our kids and grandkids. That said, we lived in Florida and our family is spread out all over the U.S. (California, Texas and New York). We figured we will see them just as much from here. The stress level is way lower here. Thanks for your videos, always enjoy them.

Really good content. I’m very interested in the banking aspect of the move. Did you maintain your accounts stateside or are all your funds and assets in Philippine banks? How do or did you transfer monthly and or large sums? One of the things I plan to do if and when we move there is actually have my social security checks direct deposited to a bank in the Philippines. The rules for such are strict and only a few banks have those type of accounts but it makes good sense to me. What holds me back is that my mother is still alive and well and I want to enjoy her as long as I still have her around. Thanks again for this new content

    • @buildingthephilippines

We did a video on how we transfer money. It's in our Playlist. Banking is a huge factor for everyone. Done a bit differently by everyone. We plan to start discussing our method in one of our next videos.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I get the sense that Wilma would be happy wherever you are. “It never rains in California… it pours.” Life is what you make it. Everything looks good on paper. The Philippines isn’t for everyone. I’ve been here 5 times and I’m not sure if it’s for me, but here I am. I started thinking about the Philippines in 1974. First trip here was in 2016. Fully retired and financially secure. If I get to Dumagatee, I will look you up. Take care.

Hi Wilma and Greg. Yes, I can relate to this topic in so many ways. Luckily for me, my son owns the property because he is a dual citizenship but I had to put a filipino guardian on the absolute deed of sale just because my son is a minor. I also have a couple of lawyers who work with me to make sure everything goes well with the transfer of the property. I just paid it off this month so the documents are being prepared and processed. I have been planning this final move to the philippines since I was stationed in Japan in 2010. I don't rush because too many mistakes can be made and you then probably won't enjoy your retirement lifestyle. I have 5 more years before I fully retire and will be living off of 2 retirement income, SSA, TSP retirement income and disability income. I just want a beautiful retirement built home and a simple life raising my future children. Yes I know that my age is up there, lol 😆, but I love children and raising them with a happy successful lifestyle. Keep up the great videos and who knows, one day maybe we will meet when I come over for good. You guys take care of yourselves, God blessings and protection 🙏 ✨️ 🙌

Hi Greg and Wilma, I remember when you came to see my house with your contractor who is also my contractor. I felt immediately that both of you were blessed to have found each other and come back to the Philippines. Greg asked me a lot of questions and I tried to give him the best answers I could. He was well prepared. Building a home here in the Philippines, with my wife was the best decision I ever made.
There are legal remedies that give both parties a feeling of comfort if you decide to build a house. But a house is only a building. It’s the people inside that matter. So, if you build a house, build it with someone that you really know. And someone of good moral character.
I love my house! Four kids running around. Boys and dogs chasing each other! Total pandemonium!
I am blessed by God to have a family so close and so tight.
    Some dreams do come true………

Less than one year. I basically consider it an epiphany that I had. I asked my wife would she consider it she was a bit reluctant.
I considered my age and everything else and things kind of dispelled together, looked at the lots she loved it and the purchase has been made. I’m doing the preliminary design for the house myself right now and so far so good.

My late Wife (Filipina) and I had a 10-year plan, as well, to move to the Philippines. However, 4 years into our plan, God had other plans, and she was gone. Now I’m thrashing to make new plans, with a new partner, who is in the Philippines, and although not the original plan, I believe we’ll muddle through, somehow.
I really wish I had the time to make a new plan, but I don’t want to move there when I’m 75, and start a new life at that age.
I congratulate you and Wilma for your successful plan realization. But sometimes plans have to change, due to unforeseen circumstances, and new shorter range plans have to be made. That’s where I am, now. But I’m confident that I’ll succeed in this new plan. Not as good as the original, but with a lot of thought and hard work between my Fiancée and myself, we’ll get it accomplished.

My wife and I are in our 30s. She’s a Filipina and we have been grinding away in the rat race and will continue to do so for the next decade or so. Still raising our kids of course but would like for them to experience part of their culture also someday. A long way to go. However, we love your content and can picture our lives someday like yours. Long term we want to be there. My pension kicks in at 55 but we are thinking about trying it in our late 40’s and using a taxable brokerage account to bridge the gap. Would not try it without a good plan though of course. For now it’s a dream . Thanks for bringing dream content to us though lol . We love you guys!

We are 49/41 building our house in Panglao Bohol and we are making those same long-term plans. We are thinking of going back and forth, but if we need to we can always sell everything here in the states and live very comfortably in the Philippines. A lot will be determined by the overall economy over the next few years.

Greg, my wife and I have been together going on 20 years this coming February. We like you and Wilma have been planning for many years about 8 to 10 years. Probable just as long as the two of you. I'm still working, and my wife has her small business. We have a house and lot that was built on 2005 and we also have a Condo that we were leasing, trying to sell it now. It's located in Mandaluyong a part of the Manila area. We purchased a lot within a sub-division to build our retirement home. The lot is paid for so all we need to build our home. Our Condo and house and lot are paid for as well. If all goes as planned, we will retire in 2026 and build out retirement home as the two of you did. I do agree with your 80% of foreigners want to rent verses buying. Skin tax does exist there in PI. My wife tells me to stay home, or she will leave me at another location if she is buying major items. LOL!! Great video.
