    Rick, The quick change chuck on the right should never be released without a mandrel in the chuck. Also it is made to stop and release with the motor running so a lab technician can swap out mandrels without having to turn off and wait for the motor to stop rotating. The manufacturer says to start the motor on low and switch to high after it comes up to full speed that helps on start up. The lever on each side is used to unscrew when you want to remove a chuck or mandrel adapter as it will press the mandrel off the shaft for tool less removal. You got a lathe motor that dentist are always looking for. You should have no trouble selling it.
