James Lanfear gives a masterful display of his craft. As well as each lure being a work of art, they catch fish!! Top video Graham!! Lets see you catch some big GTs on one of his lures.
The Totally awesome fishing show. Not only the best fishing show on youtube but the most diverse! Theres vidoes of fishing (obviously), rigs out of coat hangers, how to make dog kennels, painting houses and now making lures! This is a very good video because i can't imagine the satisfaction of catching a fish on a lure you made yourself. I guess you could do a sort of "match the hatch" thing where you could make a custom lure that is the right shape, size, type and colour as the fish that are swimming in your local water! Great stuff guys!!
Excellent video. I've just taken up fishing again after a 20 year absence, always was a predator fisherman. I'm a knifemaker, and have a decent workshop, and after watching this.. I'm gonna give it a go. Thanks for the walk through of how they are made. Much appreciated! :)
This James Lanfear makes some of the best foil finishes I ve ever seen..and I seen alot. Amazing throughwire constructions..great work! Baits of art, may have to make some Musky lures soon ;)
wow what a great video. Thanks Totally Awesome and a big thanks to James for sharing his hard earned know how. I enjoy making my own stuff so will be trying.
Oh dam, I thought you were going to make them. I like it when you make things like the rod rack, I found it quite funny! Keep up the great videos and happy fishing
Those are beautiful lures, I have no doubt about their catching capabilities. They look much nicer than anything big lure companies mass produce and as a result of their appearance, I'm sure they catch far more fish. Wouldn't mind contacting him for a few for the beach, thank you for posting this great video.
Good video it made me remember when I was just starting fishing the first lure I got the old Devon minnow and the first book Begin fishing with uncle Bill W. E. Davies that was 47 years ago when I was 8 good memories of fishing.
That’s because he does a traditional tail wrap and then covers it in epoxy. If you go to Jim’s Lures on Facebook you’ll see this example many times. I personally think it doesn’t look very clean. Either show your trap wrap off with pride or make a wire harness using crimps at both ends and make a longitudinal cut along the lure belly and fit the harness in with your adhesive of choice and some sawdust
Hello Mr. Graeme Pullen this video is a bit old but it is one of the best work with artificial bait that I have seen, I would like to watch more videos sr.Jame's Lanfear I loved your work I am from Brazil thank you from now on
This is one of the best tutorials I have seen, your lures are really awesome! For the bigger lures that you would use for GT and tuna, what kind of wood are you using? And also, the through wire that you use on the bigger lures, is this looped and then the wire twisted around the main wire ( similar to a haywire twist almost) ?
hey mike and Graeme I'm a huge fan and long time subscriber of your content. I'm just giving you a hint for future lure videos to make a collaboration with a youtuber called paul adams I'm sure you heard of him the guys is top lure maker in the uk the work and quality of his videos is top of the range best on youtube. so I would love to see a collaboration with 2 of my favourite fishing youtubers. awesome video as usual Graeme wish you all the best for 2016 hope you will achieve all the goals you want for this year. ;-)
oh wow, they are works of art. imo would be a shame to use them they are exquisite. great video as usual.thx for sharing. ps would it be possible for you to use one of these lures?
Greate movie ! A lot of usefull staff and knowledge! but i have one important question for me, how did you coil the straight steel wire ?? at movie we can se totaly straight steel wire on 16:45, then on back of the lure the steel eye is done. :) how to do this trick? btw sorry for language mistakes, my language is not perfect.
Great insight on a fellow lure maker's working methods , thanks for sharing ! At 30:07 until 30:11 a certain "cnw lure finish" or cmw lure finish " from Sweden was mentioned , ....would you mind me asking the shop where to purchase this stuff , ....always looking for new sources for my own luremaking ! Thanks a lot , ...greetings , 61diemai
+TAFishing Thanks for rapid reply , .....did use my search engine before writing my comment , but could not come up with something , ......gonna write Jim on Facebook , ....thanks a bunch , greetings Dieter
I'm a wood machinist I work with the same machines on a much bigger scale than this. But please tell him to use a smaller thinner blade!! Using a blade that size should be for just straight cuts!! And with his hands so close it's really really really likely he's gonna slip or the blades gonna lock up and rip a finger up!
Great stuff, really enjoyed this it was right up my alley, great interview, thanks

Using the knurled spanner handle for texture is brilliant.
This was fantastically educational. Thank you very much.
As usual another great video!! I will be trying to make my own lures now after watchin this
Good video it made me remember when I was just starting fishing the first lure I got the old Devon minnow and the first book Begin fishing with uncle Bill W. E. Davies that was 47 years ago when I was 8 good memories of fishing.
Now this is art
I came to find out how to make the final eye at the tail end, with no slack. He showed everything but that. I guess that is one of his trade secrets
what do you mean?
measure it where you need to bend it and then bend it if your doing through wire

TRENS DE PESCA - BRASIL - Parabéns pelo trabalho que fazem!

Hello, good baits are obtained, thanks for the video! I, too, are made baits at home.
Hello Mr. Graeme Pullen this video is a bit old but it is one of the best work with artificial bait that I have seen, I would like to watch more videos sr.Jame's Lanfear I loved your work I am from Brazil thank you from now on
Only a couple of years old,but I think Jim still makes them. The finish is amazing.
Very skilled chap !
He's my dad!!!

I really like the ones he made for his friend. sand eal could have some good on the stick lure.
Awsome work! .thanx for the video. How do you drill such a long hole from nose to tail on that skinny pencil lure? thanx again.
Nice work congratulations!
You use car "mud" to fill those holes or normal car body repair fuller (two-component fuller)?
awesome thanks
you could try to use tooth proof fishing wire it is used for sharks but would work great because of how strong it is.
Awesome !
Very interesting, will you be doing a video using one of Jims lures?
Jim also has all his fingers intact, practice i guess..
You should watch Greg Nimmer make lures sometime. My mom/dad/grandma would faint.
Could you do a slower video in detail how you do the wire hoops and how the end one is finished please.
I use a lead wire made using a small metal tube heated up and made a funnel and poured it down...
oh wow, they are works of art. imo would be a shame to use them they are exquisite. great video as usual.thx for sharing. ps would it be possible for you to use one of these lures?
exelente Master un abrasoo ¡¡
greatwork! we call them in the Netherlands jerkbaits ;)
I imagin the lure at 17:00 is allso very good for sea trout, i think they use this kind of lure in denmark, as it kindof have the shape like Tobys
Top man good work .
Wow! really beatiful lures it would be a pitty to get them scratched up by pike tooth!
No, it wouldn't. Scarred lures work better.
Greate movie ! A lot of usefull staff and knowledge!

Douglas Fir: Twin Peaks :D
How would you use that stick bait? Is it a sub surface lure?
Slow twitches just under the surface,or often skipping over the surface just breaking the water.

A sharp Bushcraft knife might do something .
hahaha u can easly catch salmon with chips packet :DDD
its a shame the art of lure making will soon be lost as soft lures become more popular.
