  • This week in the shop we cut the front structure out of a G20 conversion van to set up our table jig. This jig will allow us to make most of the necessary parts for your off-road, camping, or overloading GM G series 4x4 van conversion project or build!

    Good thing you have young guys to lift that frame down lol! I would have strapped it to the body then lowered the van to that table for removing the engine/trans :D

      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад

      Haha! That's what we planed, but the way it was in there we had to do it over head. And that wouldn't have been entertaining. Thanks for watching.

    Are you planning to use a CNC plasma cutter to produce these? It would really speed things up for certain parts. That team lift looked OSHA approved, for sure. 😂

    • @theswimshop4x4
      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад

      We are planning on a plasma table in the future. But we are trying to keep the price down as much as we can. Thanks for watching.

    Also, damnit, I have an 83... But I could have sworn, the frame rail narrows at or near the.drivers seat to the rear and is.pretty straight up to the nose. I'll look when it isn't so wet.

    • @theswimshop4x4
      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад

      It may. Check it. If it measures around 31 inches from rail to rail, you should be good. I have not been able to find a definite if the year they changed was 83 or 84. Thanks for watching.

      That would be cool! I don't think the room is there without major mods. But maybe a 4BT. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Glad to see you guys are getting the same weather up there that we are over in WNC. What a beautiful week to be out in the shop. The jig is a major accomplishment without a doubt.

    • @theswimshop4x4
      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад

      You are right!! The weather is great, but we could still get one of those March snow storms. I think the jig will be a game changer. As always, thanks again for watching and commenting.

    Great video! I watch all of them. I own a 1993 Chevy G20. Would you have a fuel filler neck you would want to get rid of?

    On the "mobile vice" - I bolted mine to a thick piece of Walnut and even put a finger groove under the bottom of it for a more sure grip when moving around the shop - Makes clamping it to any bench easier but also provides enough of a solid base (and more heft) to where I rarely need to clamp it down

      Good solution. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Will you guys be making a kit for Ford Econoline's? Or is this one comparable?

    • @theswimshop4x4
      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад

      We don't make anything for Fords or Dodges at this time. We may in the future but I don't know. Thanks for watching.

    Wanted to bought a kit from you guys for my vandura camper . but i eard that it ain't gonna fit for 83 because of the frame rail in the front thats different for the front plate . Are you guys thinking of makin kit for 77-83 vans ? Or could be modified to allow only the front plate and hangers to fit on 83 ? I like youre videos ! Keep the good work

    • @theswimshop4x4
      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад +1

      We have never seen an 83 and I can't find a definite answer on the year they changed. If you measure your front frame horns and the measure 31 inches center to center then the kit will work. Thanks for watching.

    • @olivierlantagne-hc9cg
      @olivierlantagne-hc9cg Год назад

      Iv measured it ! 31 inches bud ! But mine is a 1ton G35 . I don't know if 1/2 ton are different but mine is straight as the van in youre video . Center to center of the frame right on the middle of the holes they got in front of the sway bar bracket ! Timothy was a 3/4 or a 1ton ? What you guys are choosing for front axle ? Dana 60 1ton GM are hard to get where im from ! But one of my buddy got 3 pairs of 3/4 ton GM just wonder if they break easilly for my application a 19feet 1ton vandura camper

    • @theswimshop4x4
      @theswimshop4x4  Год назад

      @@olivierlantagne-hc9cg The 3/4 ton will work, but it will not handle any hardcore offroading. And a 35 inch tire is about as big as I would go. It really depends on how you drive it. Nothing is bulletproof. Anything can break! But our kit should work.

    This is great news. ! That's awesome! Definitely understand you want to make it affordable but on the other hand you have to be able to make a profit and stay in business. Definitely don't want you guys working for charity here. Then end up not doing anything else after that. I am definitely interested in a kit for my Chevy van. It has a 454 in it . I think for the normal working guy like you guys are if you could just make a stage kit you know step one step two step three to make it affordable.
    The most difficult part about the whole build is finding in the axles like the Dana 60.
    Keep up the great work guys !!!

      Thanks for saying that. Yes, we do need to make money. It's a lot that goes into doing something like this. I doubt anyone would tell their boss that they were going to keep coming to work but you don't have to pay me, you are worth more than my time so I want to give you my time for nothing! Just send us an email, it's in the links, and we will get you on the list. Thanks for watching.
