If the Skyline would of had a Ford or Holden badge on it they would still be racing today, sookie lala Ford Sierra drivers who couldnt keep up went crying becuase the Skyline still had plenty left in them to improve and they shitted on the Sierras' that had nothing left.

Well, actually given the amount of wins, relevant to their time, holden is actually the best manufacturer, and remember it took nissan years to catch up, rememberwho had pole in the 84 bathurst?, an inline turbo nissan, and they had plenty before and after, and nissan was smart, they spent more on their team than any other manufacturer, and paid top $ for the top drivers, but nissan knew what a bathurst win is, a lift to legendary status.

Simple case of "If you can't beat em, ban em", then turn it into a 2 manufacturer championship.
The golden age of multiple car makes (from way back at Bathurst's inception) with all the excitement they brought, ended at that point. 😥
These were the days I remember as a kid....late 70's, 80's and early 90's spending the whole day in front of the TV with Dad. Now it's just boring as shit.
Totally agreed - and I have similar fond childhood memories. Another thing lost to us is the idea of traffic, with so many of the smaller, less powerful cars becoming a race issue for the faster boys. Timing your run through traffic was a race-craft skill the modern driver doesn't have. Supercars is garbage for the spectator. Respect the machine for sure, but it isn't the specatacle it once was and racing is the poorer for it.

dySicle like how Holden homologated the HRT427 for the Bathurst 24hr in 02 & 03... Holden and their fans don’t like loosing and will always try to have the rules changed to their advantage and they are still trying to today with their bitching about the Mustang’s advantage.

You should definitely check out the VQ35DEHR tho. Lighter, better reinforced and capable of handling the high revs - hence the HR on the engine code.

Holden may still be alive today if they had of learnt from the competition....but they didnt..the Skyline GT-R was designed and built TO WIN Races...the Holden Commodore was designed to carry the Mrs and Kid's around.
@@23yearsand76 Mark Skaife and Jimmy Richards put an enormous amount of R&D into the GTR. The GTR has Mark and Jimmy’s DNA in it. Those drivers are 2 of Australian Motorsport royalty. Mark and Jimmy forever left their mark on the GTR and they would also do the same with Holden
So what are you talking about? They did. GM is bigger than just Holden and they seen the writing on the wall with the new era of EV’s. What you’re saying just doesn’t make sense and GM will continue to dominate markets
Bathurst at its peak. I truly believe they should have a 'production/leader' class to Bathurst. Engine size 6cyl only. It can be turbo, supercharged or NA, but has to be a factory 6 cyl engine. That way you could include v6/straight 6. Perhaps it may bring back some interest in Bathurst.......?

Now it's 2022, No Holden Commodore, No Ford Falcon anymore in Australian Touring Car Racing and went away from Group A to V8s in 1992/3. Wonder what's going to happen now when GM stop Camaro production and other manufacturers are not interested in the current Australian series?
Because since they changed the rules is so boring now I stop watching over 20 years now since it banned the GTR.
No doubt their was a era of excitement surrounding the appearance of the R32 GTR in Bathurst.
It was beautiful to look at in comparison to the boxy R31 & it had AWD.
Plus people were amazed at how fast it went.
It seemed like it performed on a completely different level to any other Group A car.
Larry Perkins said it best...They are race car not a Touring car....Thats why they where banned. I still love watching them race though.

I think they had custom made 17's...Try getting in touch with TMR Motorsport (Team Mitsubishi Ralliart)...wierd I know...but Fred Gibson hangs out there and they're are great bunch of guy's and might have the info you're after...or know where to get it

@@NZ2STROKE yes there were 6cyl 'HR30' and diesel R30 Skylines but these were never used for Group A racing, all the racing ones were the DR30 RS with FJ20ET four

Bluebird was great, but Nissan upgraded the suspension significantly, which made the car better to handle, 4 tyres on the road is better than 3 😃

The warning signs were there in 1986 with fast 4s then 1987 with the RB30,
yet i tried to tell a V8 head in 1984 time was coming for the V8s where hi tech will destroy V8s in all cases
All the 70/80s Holdens i ever had where lemons, only the VL RB30 were any good, Fords 2.0L & 4.1L were much more fun
Nissan went backwards after 2001 having a deal with Renault
if there were cheaters Holden were as they were over 5.0L anyway (5,044 cc) V Ford (4.950cc)

I'm not kidding...I said the exact same thing to a V8 mate of mine in 84 after Fury poled his Turbo Bluebird at Bathurst...and said to him that a 4 cylinder TURBO will WIN BATHURST one day...he just broke out in laughter...but I didn't have to wait long until the Sierra dominated and WON BATHURST...The phone call I made to him was PRICELESS....I called him a few years later after that when the GTR dominated and asked what the hell has happened to his V8 being beaten...and beaten badly by 4 & 6cyl Turbo's
