I’ve always believed this form of accordion must be one of the most difficult instruments to play. Two hands acting independently, like a piano, but unlike a piano you have rows and columns of notes, with no apparent “index” reference (like the shape/position of black/white keys on a piano). You just have “know” where each little button is. So while a piano is a single x-axis of motion, this is x-y axis. Amazing!
Some of the buttons have texture on them so you can tell where you are. And a lot of accordions use the circle of fifths for the bass-side buttons. Most instruments have a similar learning curve, and learning the physical characteristics of the instrument is simply a matter of time practiced.

My father once said to me, very late in his life: “how I always wished I could play the accordion.” I asked surprised, why daddy?? He answered, “because if you knew how to play the the accordion you would get invited to all the parties”. 1918-2015 ❤ I bet this lovely girl would have gotten invited to all the parties.
This should not be possible...such a complex piece, on that instrument? It's barking mad! But this was breathtaking - her sense of timing, the drama and feeling she expresses, it's gorgeous. Liszt would approve.
I appreciated the relaxed tempo of this performance. So many artists seem to think that the faster they can play it the more impressive it will be. I would rather hear and appreciate each note in its place.

A computer can play it even faster, or even play a piece into a familiar blur of sound, but then, computers have no soul. Keep the Human in these beautifully written pieces. Who is teaching today's artists to compete with computerized performances? They do today's artists no favors.

Holy. Crap. La Campanella is such an amazing piece and I’ve always felt that transcriptions into other instruments don’t do it justice; I was expecting to feel the same way about this one. Sure there were passages that don’t quite work as well, I suspect due to range limitations compared to the piano but overall that was incredible. I’m just totally floored. Bravo.

What we are privileged to listen to is an artist who has the incredible talent to make an instrument create a sound that fills the air and makes us forget about the instrument - these sounds are like waves on which we are surfing - enjoying the ride, carried away by a melody that was written - centuries ago by a musical genius as memories for eternity. Anyway, it's icredible what this girl gets with the accordion, a keyboard that, together with the tango's bandoneon, two instruments where the player hardly can see the keys... There are markings on the keys on the left side. You can feel them.

And then there’s the operation of the bellows so as to generate the sounds. Truly amazing instrument and equally amazing the player!

I knew a Russian player of this type of accordion. He played complex classical music on it mainly. It sounds amazing when up close.
