As an organist, who appreciates the work and effort needed to play this piece, this is outstanding.

If I had not been able to see the instrument he was playing, I would have visualized a pipe organ in a cathedral. What a full beautiful sound. The musicianship of this performance was outstanding. Amazing performance.

I clicked on this as a joke. You know, Bach and accordion? By the end, I was almost in tears.

He was born in Minsk. He moved to Canada as a young man and became a Canadian citizen. Unfortunately he passed away from heart disease at age 41 in 2018....... Too young.

  • @warrenmixon

He was handed this instrument and said to himself "I will learn this instrument to the best of it's ability, not mine"

Bach would have loved hearing this more than any of us now listening. Truly a maestro .

  • @oilman1758

Beautifully played and you would believe Bach wrote it for the Accordion.

Such an immense talent and an equally immense loss. RIP Alexander Savastian, 1976-2018.

Wow. He really pulled out all the stops for this one, didn't he. This is probably one of the most outstanding versions of this I have ever heard. Sounds so organ like.... absolutely beautiful.

I studied devotedly as a young accordionist. It's an amazing and completely underrated instrument. This brought tears to my 80 year old eyes. Thank you for bringing this amazing performance to life again ❤

Почитал комменты и узнал, что музыкант ушел в мир иной и мне хочется плакать от этой несправедливости.Почему те, кто дарит свет, добро, красоту уходят так рано...

My husband and I happened to come upon him playing this very piece in a Toronto subway station, people stupidly rushing past him while the music of the heavens surrounded us. I was in tears, it was so powerfully beautiful. We were fortunate to hear him in concert a couple years later. His passing was a great loss to all of us.

Holy cow. I’ve never heard an accordion played so well. As a harpist I know I have to go by hand shape to find strings and rely on muscle memory to get my hands placed properly on the strings. His hands were utterly amazing. Wow! Excellent! ❤ I understand from comments that this young man has since passed away. How sad.

Bach was intent on putting organs to the test, this piece will expose every fault in a pipe organ.

Rest in peace, Mr. Sasha Sevastian... you were appreciated and you are missed.

I'm amazed at how few compromises were necessary to adapt this amazingly complex piece to accordion. He truly mastered an often-hated instrument to show what it was capable of in the right hands.

  • @grahambunton377

I have seen this played on massive church organs where the organist reads from sheet music, can see the keys and doesn't have to worry about keeping the air pressure up all the time.

  • @jperickson7737

Who dares deny the imago dei before such a sight... 2 wooden boxes, connected by a slinky like tube, made to sing polyphony.

  • @brianlopez8855

As a pianist I can appreciate that so much of his fingering is in an extraordinary muscle memory and physical reach needed. Once located on the keys, he never needs to see, he can literally "feel" the music... Incredible playing.
