  • Finally we finish our step-by-step breakdown some of the core concepts taught in the wooden dummy form (Mook Yan Jong) of Wing Chun Kung Fu.
    Some of the techniques and ideas taught in these two sections can seem a little odd at first - but remember, Wing Chun is a self defense system and not a fight sport. Many of the techniques and ideas that are taught in Wing Chun reflect the unpredictable nature of real world self defense and, therefore the forms give us broad motions (instead of specifics) that are meant to be adapted to the situation at hand.

    Love this channel Sifu Jason and the staff in Greenville are if not my favorite Wing Chun instruction channel. So friendly and personal. But DEFINITELY like the fact they go by principals and realistic applications. Something I 100% admire. Best wishes to the Sifus there. And continue the great work...

    Excellent point about updating the arsenal. Fighters are different in my area of WV now than they would have been in the 50s. Pap says its dirtier now the way folks fight.

    I love the Gum Sao step back defense for the low rushing attack. My friend who teaches Wing Chun and Hung Gar in Nebraska always said that Muk Jong was some of Wing Chun's best material. Whenever I miss one of your videos something terrible always happens, I miss out on great self-defense strategies and techniques.

    I totally enjoy your teachings with humor. .I had started practicing on the dummy in my early 20's banging the hell out of it for 10 years..Then life happened and went on to different things..Now I'm back practicing again for a few years in my 60's and enjoying it again..Difference now is that I'm doing it softly and sticking to the arms more..Only hitting the body with more force at the very last second..More of an internal force..Older and wiser now...

    Great lesson in realism/visualizing. Once again many moons ago when I was learning Mok Jong, I was only taught how not why. I wish I had access to one now, but I realize I would hav to start completely over (no space where I am now for one).

    Wing chun is great in close range where you and your opponent cannot move away from each other like a alley way or in a jail cell or bathroom small that is!! Where you cannot use boxing effectively because you are in a smothered place !! Trapping can then become useful!!

    Reminds me of invisible kicks in wing chun in which it is very effective because the opponent does not see it coming below the line while striking and defending at the same time somewhat!! WHAT PISSES ME OFF is that why wing Chun fighters do not use their legs!!!

    Please keep it coming...ur style of teaching ...cuts through all the bull time waisted....fantastic!! Much respect!

      Sorry about your school. That stinks. Adam’s stuff is great too, by the way.
      As for other material on the dummy, we have a book on Amazon “Wing Chun’s Wooden Dummy” that details the form plus a video course on our Teachable website. Obviously, the book is the less expensive option but either one would be great. There should be links in the description above, by the way.
      Anyway, thanks for watching and the support - and sorry again about your school closing.

    • @JKDandWingChun
      @JKDandWingChun  Год назад

      most of the Wing Chun kicks can be done from within contact range (so long as you have control of your enemy's balance, that is). Not that you can't use them from longer distance, but we assume more close-quarter combat...even with the kicks.

    There's no forms in JKD. You're peddling the "Classical Mess." Here's some philosophy for you, you cannot serve 2 masters you will either love one and hate the other (Matt 6:24).You're stuck in the 'fluid' state unable to empty yourself towards 'liberty' for the sake of hankering to WC. You're adrift in the boat without an oar. You contradict yourself by say people are stuck not adapting the dummy forms and later on you brag about the refined traditional forms that have been passed down over centuries. Wake up and WALK ON MY Friend! It takes true humility and enlightenment to do so along with the courage to face the consequences and stay the path for the truths sake.
