- The "gaun sao section" is the fifth part of the Ip Man Mook Jong form and is full of useful skills for self defense. The forms of Wing Chun (including the wooden dummy) are often misunderstood by those who view fighting through the lens of combat sports such as mma, kickboxing, and boxing. The Wing Chun system does a magnificent job of giving the practitioner structures and mechanics that can be used for a broad range of applications. Sifu Jason Korol of Greenville Academy of Martial Arts will point out those mechanics and give you an idea about how they might be used for self defense.

Thank you for all the excellent work you put in! I really appreciate it since I live in a part of Denmark with no wing chun schools nearby :) It purchased the wooden dummy book for my Kindle and it's good. It would be even better, however, if it included access to the videos on the form! Sometimes it's very hard for me to translate still images into fluid movements, and RUclips is surprisingly devoid of good mook jong instructional videos. Anyway, it's just a suggestion :) Stay safe and please keep delivering quality content - cheers from Denmark!

I can testify low "block" against a Thai style kick is a bad idea! A kid I used to train in karate moved to Detroit and joined a Muy Thai camp. Just a couple seasons later wanted to spar his old coach (me) and I intercepted a rib kick with gedan uke. Nothing broke, but I've been reinventing my approach to that kick ever since!
