does that wooden dummy have the top arms at the same level? also what arm leveling would you recommend traditional or parallel?

    • @barrypangkungfu7629

One is slightly higher than the other. For information, this 45 year old wooden dummy was made by Koo Sang, who developed the modern wooden dummy for Ip Man, specifically meeting the grandmaster’s requirements. This format became the gold standard that was also used by Barry’s instructor, Wong Shun Leung. We are fortunate to have a master carpenter at our club who is able to reproduce these.

The wooden dummy in this explainer video was made by Koo Sang, who developed the modern wooden dummy for Ip Man. Barry has been using it for 45 years. One of our senior students is a carpenter and is able to reproduce them to correct specifications. However, he is not doing this commercially at the moment. If you're in Australia, "Tribal Dummies" offer great product and great service. They're in or near Brisbane. They ship anywhere in Australia. You can get one mounted like Sifu's one here or a tripod one. Traditional or modified. Mine cost me around a grand ten years ago. I use it every day, even if for just three or four minutes. You're correct about micro-fractures. I highly recommend iron palm training as well. Uses the same micro-fracturing principles to make your bones denser. Happy training.

    • @barrypangkungfu7629

It's important to get a properly designed and firmly sprung wooden dummy. Having said that, all you need is a few metres of space and zero equipment to train all of the extremely important and fundamental techniques in Wing Chun. Having a wooden dummy is a luxury that many people obtain too early in their training.

There should be dowels put in the back of the arms so they can’t come out
You missed the inside pac saus
One thing I completely applaud you about is that whoever made the upper arms was smart enough to make them level with each other as opposed to many morons who have the arms really uneven 👍
