very very late to the party, but first - great job and video. Their is one important feature that was not included in your dummy however. the arms need to be able to move in response to strikes. they need to give. the dummies should be (imo) used primarily for accuracy and precision of strikes, not for "strength or speed" as many might think. by allowing for the arms and leg to give, you can assess whether or not your technique is correct. also, "proper" wooden dummies generally have the slots made so that the arms can be rotated to vary this amount of play. But otherwise, really a great job! hats off to you !
Never too late to the party and you are absolutely correct. Over years of use, the arms have loosened up and become more "responsive." I keep them in place with zip-ties which makes the length slightly adjustable as well. Love the suggestions made here, so I am pinning this comment. You can also check out our "follow-up" video from last year here: ruclips.net/video/zEBZ_dUwYl8/видео.html
Untrue. the arms and leg do not have to give. The old wooden men were posts set in the ground, And the arms and leg firmly hammered in. They had zero give. The new dummies (made when Yip Man moved to Hong Kong) were designed to be easily taken apart when moving apartments. So tolerances were looser. They also could not be set into the ground(due to apartment life), so stands were invented. The wooden man is for training techniques at full power, without having to worry about injuring or killing your training partner. They are meant to be hit, full force, and full speed. If a wooden man is delicate, then is is just wrong.
Love the video. Something quick, easy, very inexpensive. It is not over thought. Nor does the average person's need to have a tool shop, or wood shop to do all the work. Awesome.
It's the first time I've seen a genuine homemade dummy made from spare bits. Too many videos have things "hanging around" that would cost a fortune in B&Q plus hundreds of £££ worth of power tools. Well done!
Thank you for the kind comment! Yep, you will find on my channel that I everything I do is "on the cheap" as we say around here. Nothing fancy, just piecing together old bits of this-and-that and having a creative mind. I am always on the lookout for spare parts and things that I can work into something new (and different). The dummy in this video is almost two years old now and still looks like the day I made it. I have had a ton of people wanting to buy it off me every time they see it. It was a great project and I use it at least 3 times a week (working it into my other workouts). Thanks for watching!
I like that the tyre base serves as a springy support, and also something you can still practice kicks on :) This is ruddy clever, you just saved a good few hundred bucks

Very nice. Looking to do the same with a 6" diameter PVC pipe I line the outside of with some wood. Thinking of using thicker stair posts or dowels for the arms.
I like the simple make use of your random items to make a training tool. I would only worry about the arm dowels strength and the width of the post but that’s based off my preference. Overall good post and likely to make something similar myself. Thanks
I had a mental concern about the the dowel rods myself. However, breaking a 1.5-2 in dowel rod is difficult, and they can be replaced fairly cheaply. Suggest a a waterproof stain to lengthen the time between arm breakages.

@@HNXMedia ❤️❤️
I like the video, best I've seen, thanks for that. Taking on board the comments about the arm positions etc I'd really like to see your follow up video and maybe you'd consider posting a plan too?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a kind comment. Doing a follow-up video is a GREAT idea. I use this thing about 4 times a week (note, I made this back in 2016), and it is still going strong. I could include some specific details about dimensions, angles and my overall impressions after 3 years of use. I'll drop a link here as soon as I get it done (might be by the end of the week). Peace.

@@HNXMedia Dear continued do not stop.
I wish you success.
How did you tie those ropes around it?
I wrapped them and then used a pneumatic stapler on every other row down the back.
Made my own wing chung dummy.
Sweet! Would love to check it out if you post a video. Hope my video helped. Thanks for watching and taking the time to post a comment!
Ок!
How do make drill ,for arms ?
I used a large speed bore, spade bit (sometimes called a "paddle bit"). I happened to have one that was the same size as the wooden dowels that I used as arms. Other than that, I just used simple hand drill. Hope this helps. Peace.
what's the diameter in the arms' part?
The arms are 1.5 inches in diameter.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! Namaste!
i want to learn wing chun much
Go for it! You can do anything you set your mind to. Peace.
😎
Thanks for watching and I hope it gave you some ideas!
I WANT ONE
Can we use an bamboo
This size bamboo is not readily available in my area, but if you have access to it, I would think it would work just fine. Bamboo (from my understanding) is super strong, so it should work. Thanks for watching!
What is the diameter of the post?
The post is 6 inches in diameter and 6 feet tall.
In the areas with the rope, it becomes 8 inches in diameter (because of the rope).
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Namaste!
How much did it cost u??
I salvaged all the items. It was free.
thanks now i can kick my idiotic enemys

You just waste a tier but thx for saving my money in the future
That tire was wasted long before this project. Well used. Well dead.
A what now at 0:14
LOL. That was my inept attempt at pronouncing Mook Jong.
