I fear that, sooner or later, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom will again use the "Pay-As-You-Go" business model. They've done this before. In fact, back when the Disney parks charged guests for each individual ride, they had a more elaborate ride ticket system than most other amusement parks. You see, there were different-lettered tickets, in order of increasing value: A, B, C, D, and E. Each ride charged a single ticket with one of those letters. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride, for instance, charged one "E" Ticket. This system might soon be coming back.
In modified form, I would bet - they already require everybody to wear the magic bands which are tied to room keys and all sorts of stuff, one tap of the band at the entrance of any ride and it's basically a one-time purchase ticket right there billed to your credit card on file.
I really don’t mind the price hikes or reduced benefits , it’s their business and they can charge whatever they want, but what made me stay away from Disney it’s their particular political ideology creeping through to their content and theme park experience which is supposed to be directed at children, that for me is a dealbreaker.
Times like this sometimes I wish I'd been able to experience what Disney was like before this being born the late 80's, at the same time with how much I look in regret about things I loved going to absolute crap and maybe it's better I just keep the good memories (and VHS tapes I have) of Disney movies back when they were better. Oh well, maybe one day eventually Disney will fall, but it's doubtful, at the very least those of us who aren't the brainwashed morons can enjoy the tire fire that never goes out with Disney.
If I could pick any time in history to visit Disneyland, it would be the early-90's, right after Fantasmic and Toontown were introduced but while classic attractions like Country Bears, Peoplemover, Fort Wilderness, and Main St. Electrical Parade were still there. Basically, the "A Day At Disneyland" video.
I'm not surprised that Disney is pulling these pricing antics, but it depresses me that people are still stupid enough to go along with their blatant ripoff schemes. I get rich people have "fuck you money", and spend however they want, but it just seems like a huge waste. If I had that kind of wealth, I'd probably just blow it all doing weeb shit in Japan or something.
I live near Disney world. Most of the people I know will no longer consider Disney as a vacation option. Most simply refuse to support the company as it is now. Universal and sea world are still places to visit.
I didn't want to go to seaworld for a long time after the black fish doc, but having no wdw for vaca time is opening up space for a lot of other parks.
I don't wanna go there anyway. I'm done giving Disney anything other than a scathing review of their crap Movies / TV, pointing out hypocritical racism and ridiculing Disney at every opportunity.
Surprisingly not busy anymore. Went on 8/21 to MK, annual passholder, but only go every month or so. For awhile, crowds were crazy, but I think the recession is finally starting to set in.
We would get Dole Whips at each Disney trip. Went about 6 months ago, and we had to order it like 3 hours ahead of time. Thus we had to make sure we were going to be in Adventureland in Disneyland when our Whips were ready.
I 100% agree with the "false demand" assertion for the resort hotels. I do not think they are back to 100% room inventory availability (even excluding refurbishment closures), but will they admit that? It is just too hard to believe EVERY single room on property is sold out this Fall/Winter. Pre-pandemic, even on the busiest times of year, they ALWAYS had rooms available. ALWAYS! It just doesn't pass the sniff test. I'm also beyond fed up with their use of the phrase "to improve the guest experience" when defending the changes they are making. It is blatant false executive narrative. The decisions and changes being made are to improve the corporate bottom line, they could not care less about the guest experience. Things that IMPROVE the guest experience: Included resort hotel parking, no park pass reservation system, free FastPass, free Magical Express, Park Hopping without time constraints, included MagciBands, etc., etc., etc. Disney is not being honest. Not with their guests, not with their shareholders, not with themselves.
Should we really be surprised about Disney's poor view on low income Disney customers. When they will happily build an upscale residential community within the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
It still amazes me. My sister and her family have been going to Disney World at least once a year since she and her husband were married 23 years ago. 2 adults and 3 kids for the 14 years of that time, and they still keep going! Hell, my oldest niece is working their as staff for a semester of her senior year of college! Some folks just really love Disney.
You know ever since Disney became stupid well more than usual and jacking up the prices I found a lot of other local and even some out of state theme parks that are way cheaper and my honest opinion way better in the family experience like Kennywood Dollywood at Hershey Park
In June, my wife and I were at Disney world and the parks were extremely crowded. Rides were breaking down left and right, and if we hadn't purchased genie plus, we wouldn't have been able to ride many rides.
I always wanted to go to Disneyland, but hearing this does not want me go anymore. I guess I'd stick to the local theme park which is way smaller, way cheaper but probably slightly more enjoyable.
If you actually look at attendance statistics, Nintendo would have to more than DOUBLE Universal's attendance to compete with Magic Kingdom. It ain't happening fam. Attendance is Disney's to lose. Universal will ALWAYS be an also-ran.
In Germany we call it setting a frog in cold water, and raise the temperature slowly, so that he does not notice he will be boiled to death soon. He does not jump out of the water in time.
The word 'Disney' is going to become a synonym for 'gouge' like Einstein was a synonym for smart when I was a kid. It will probably signify a lot of other bad things too.
Not only have ticket, hotel and food prices sky-rocketed, but they aim to up-charge for every single facet involved. The list of additional charges has been going up regularly. The value of a DW vacation has been completely wiped out.
DUDE!!! SERIOUSLY!!! LOBSTERS SCREAM WHEN YOU PUT THEM IN BOILING WATER!! You're thinking about boiling a frog for frogs legs, you put the in a pot and slowly build the heat they don't know what's going on until it's to late, try throwing them in boiling water and they'll jump right out.
There should be a limit for customers per day for people to actually have fun time or build more Disney Parks. I'd rather buy a VR set and Disney Park vr game (If they would make it). Much cheaper.
From their movies to their TV channel to their park, it is obvious Disney does not respect their customers. Let’s see how this works out for them long term.
I'm sure if EA had an amusement park they would've beaten Disney to the punch. I'm reminded of a line from Dipper Pines: "She's rich, Mabel. She's cheating at life."
Disney hotels better be getting ready to report vacant rooms in their hotels at 2pm and then let homeless people in them as soon to be required by law in California 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My husband and I pay about $17 a month on our platinum and meal passes for six flags currently. We’re thinking about adding monthly Schlitterbahn passes for about $22 each. There’s no meal pass, but they do allow you to bring your own food and drinks (no glass) as long as you eat at picnic areas around the parks (it’s two parks and the shuttle bus is free to ride). With both combined, we’ll still have fun year round at one park and summers cooling off at the other. Absolutely no reason to go broke just for nostalgia, just find more reasonable places close to you for fun.
Last time I went to Disneyland was 1978 when I was a kid. As an adult with no kids I never had saw the entertainment value in it. If families are priced out then eventually attendance will plummet.
The importance of annual passholders to Disneyland was shown in the summer of 2019 when Galaxy's Edge opened. Disney blocked most annual passholders from using their pass for entry into the park during that summer, causing record low attendance that summer. The news stories of Galaxy's Edge opening all noted the lack of crowds at Disneyland for the new Star Wars land.
Not Disney but for full disclosure Six Flags is doing the same shit. Last year it was $20 for parking now it’s $35; for a small regional Six Flags. No one people living near the park are offering their yards for $5-10.
Back in the 90's when the park hopper came out it was 79 and adult and 56 per child. And I thought that was expensive. Last time we went was 10 years ago and 5 days stay we stayed at Port Royal disney resort, 5 days cost us 5900 bucks, that included a food plan, park hopper tickets. I cant even imagine what it is now.
I think Disney is gonna end up being Extremely disappointed in this Decade long Plan to find a Replacement Audience. It's not gonna go they way they think and when it Backfires Spectacularly...they will come Crawling Back to their Core Audience and will BEG for their Forgiveness.
Hey guys, Love the channel, especially Geeky's epic rants. Just want to point out something in the article that you didn't mention in the video: The following paragraph appears on screen around the 16 minute mark - "The parks business has buoyed Disney's stock price and boosted financial results at a time when the company is losing billions on other businesses , like the popular but cost heavy Disney+ streaming service" That says it all. It explains how Disney movies and streaming series' can keep going woke without worrying about making a profit. The Disney theme park customers are subsidizing Disney's woke crap movies and series'.
I grew up in a family of seven. Went to Disneyland twice with my family as a kid, and it was only from my parents sacrificing a lot, and getting help from my grandparents. Now though, it'd be pretty nigh impossible for us to go in one trip. I also want to have around four or five kids, and so that probably precludes me from ever taking my kids to Disneyland, unless I happen to stumble into an absurd amount of wealth. The question though is given what the parks have become, lowering quality, injecting IP into absolutely every experience, if I'd even want to take my family there.
Parents just need to teach their kids that Disney is trash, and there's much more fun amusement parks. Also, don't allow their kids to watch any Disney channels so they're not marketed to. Problem solved. I've never been to Disney Land/World myself, and I don't care. I LOVE roller coasters, and NONE of the best coasters are at a Disney park anyway,.
20 years ago my family bought non expiring 10 day park hoppers for 120 a person. Wrap your mind around that. You can't even get in for a day at that cost now.
Yeah well I don’t honestly care to go anyway since you can’t do anything nor buy stuff at said theme park. Im not Disney’s pay pig like most individuals are. Lol
I don't know how much my family spent going back in 85 and 90, but we always stayed at a motel 6 or something similar, when going to Disney World. Oh well, not meant for us anymore.
Because they're nothing but hypnotized servants to their nostalgia of classic Disney, and Disney loves exploiting people's nostalgia to make even more money for themselves.
We were able to get all star movie resort for 2 nights at 104 a night in early December 2022! We also booked on Aug 2021 lmao! What makes it sad is that our family loves Disney we are Disney nerds, but with these prices going up it’s going to be a tough decision to take our little girl to Disney or go to universal! Universal is slowly taking the crown In Florida!
When a company starts charging more than their product is worth, I stop doing business with them. I no longer go to Famous Dave's, Charlie Brown's, or Dunkin' Donuts for just that reason. I sure as hell wouldn't go to Disney; there are many other things I can do that are just as fun and cost way less.
I don't think they ever disclosed attendance at the parks. Back when I worked as a consultant for an IT company hired by Da Mouse, the equip/sw we were installing gave us access to attendance info and we had to sign all sorts of NDAs and threats equivalent to giving your first born if you shared that info. Of course, that was long before the days of social media.
Six Flags is peeking Disney's bag. They are jacking prices on everything, no freebies at all and think that with less people coming, everything will be better
I don't think I'll ever go down to Walt Disney World again until The Walt Disney Company gets its act together. Perhaps one of these days I'll go to Universal Orlando.
One thing I will say is we seem to be living in an iPhone, Starbucks, etc. world. People are overpaying for a lot of things they probably shouldn't bother with, do why wouldn't companies like Disney get in on the act.
I went back in 2012, I still keep my Room Key/Ticket in my wallet to this day... But.. I know I am NEVER going back.. I plan to spend my money with Universal for Nintendo world... More value there
By limiting to rich and loyalty guests, they are killing their future customers. My kids have been to Dollywood and Universal and 6 Flags and Great Wolf Lodges and Lego Land. They won’t have the nostalgia of the family friendly magic we all grew up with and have fond memories. It makes me sad on some level that my kids won’t experience the magic of DW, and by extension they won’t have the memories to care about taking their kids.
Last time I darkened Di$ney's door was about 7 years ago and I have absolutely no plans to ever go again. It just isn't worth the money they are charging. Thankfully my kids like Universal 1000x more than Di$ney so they don't care that we won't be returning.

I really don’t mind the price hikes or reduced benefits , it’s their business and they can charge whatever they want, but what made me stay away from Disney it’s their particular political ideology creeping through to their content and theme park experience which is supposed to be directed at children, that for me is a dealbreaker.
Good lord……
you're going to have the normal line, fast pass line, and next, they're going to add the stockholder line.

I like how it's all about "inclusion" for everything except when it's to provide people with services. Then it's all about exclusion.

With that wealth, I'd do trips to Europe. Be cheaper than Disney as well.

I live near Disney world. Most of the people I know will no longer consider Disney as a vacation option. Most simply refuse to support the company as it is now. Universal and sea world are still places to visit.
I don't hear much issues in Universal so I guess it's still a good one to visit without hear all problem like Disney always has
I didn't want to go to seaworld for a long time after the black fish doc, but having no wdw for vaca time is opening up space for a lot of other parks.

Oh man, Dole Whips are essential for the Enchanted Tiki Room.
Talk about a toxic relationship.
You know ever since Disney became stupid well more than usual and jacking up the prices I found a lot of other local and even some out of state theme parks that are way cheaper and my honest opinion way better in the family experience like Kennywood Dollywood at Hershey Park
Makes me think of my parents who still have ticket stubbs from the 1970's that were less than $20 per park. The future sucks.
From what I seen Disney gotten lazier as they increase the pricing. IT is not good when a company is coasting on their history.
In June, my wife and I were at Disney world and the parks were extremely crowded. Rides were breaking down left and right, and if we hadn't purchased genie plus, we wouldn't have been able to ride many rides.
Why do you continue to financially support this hypocritical, greedy corporation?
I always wanted to go to Disneyland, but hearing this does not want me go anymore. I guess I'd stick to the local theme park which is way smaller, way cheaper but probably slightly more enjoyable.
Or go to Universal Studios or Six Flags until these imbeciles get fired for incompetence and stupidity.
I went a month ago and believe me local theme parks are way way more enjoyable

They'll charge 10 bucks per strip of toilet paper and they'll give you 1 measly square to wipe with
The importance of annual passholders to Disneyland was shown in the summer of 2019 when Galaxy's Edge opened.

Hey guys,
Love the channel, especially Geeky's epic rants.
Just want to point out something in the article that you didn't mention in the video:
The following paragraph appears on screen around the 16 minute mark -
"The parks business has buoyed Disney's stock price and boosted financial results at a time when the company is losing billions on other businesses , like the popular but cost heavy Disney+ streaming service"
That says it all.
Nintendo land in universal is a great alternative.
Boiling the frog was the analogy you're trying to think of. A little late now but still love your channel

I will never understand why people waste their money going to that place. But, it ain't my money so, eh.

It's not only the parks. I recently priced out a 4 night stay at Disney's Aulani and it came out around $3000!
They may as well open up a Vegas Disney, or just buy Circus, Circus.
