I never understood why people spent so much money to go to Disney. I'm glad my parents never took me there and spent thousands of dollars to pay for 15 dollar drinks, long lines, hotel commutes and rides that can't go higher than 200 feet.
My parents took us to Disneyland once. I'm happy we went. especially since it was before the changes to Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc. But Six Flags has two parks within a day's travel, and they cost a fraction.
First it was Lucasfilm, now it's Marvel and the Animated division having problems too. Not to mention tourism to the parks is jeopardized by a lot of harmful decisions.
I made an annual trip to WDW for Marathon Weekend from 2013 to 216, and my family took a trip in 2020 right before the shutdown. There was illusion about how much these trips cost, but we felt like we got good VALUE out of the money spent. That value proposition is now gone. Between the price hikes, the wokeness, and the deterioration of the parks, I can’t see us going back anytime soon.
"People are over Disney." This is the single greatest quote I have ever heard, in the HISTORY OF THE ENTIRE INTERNET!!!! Thank you, you two! You have made my year, and this year is barely over two months old!
Disney's problem is they've been burning customer goodwill in every possible manner for several years now, while they've simultaneously been nickle and diming visitors to the parks while cheapening the overall experience. As a result, they now need to cut prices while spending more to bring the parks back up to the expected standards, at a time where the value of the "Disney premium" is the lowest its been in the history of the company.
He is SO full of himself. I can't believe he fell for that trick. The people at Comcast didn't get this big by being foolhardy spenders. The way they outnegotiated him and left him to deal with the price tag was a stroke of business genius. Finally they see it.. We went in September and for JUST myself and my daughter my total costs were just shy of $7k. Food costs were easily the biggest hurdle along with resort stay. We stayed at the Carribean resort and while it WAS very nice and comfy it didn't justify the cost of $380 a night. I am fine with paying $50-60 per person for a nice dinner but $100+ is sky high. If I can't do the same trip for under $5k pricing I won't be going back.
My family of six were planning a week long Disney world trip. It was going to cost over 6K. Then I saw the video of their not so secret agenda and we decided to go somewhere else. It was a good decision. I can’t see my family ever going to that park at this point. We are just one family but it seems others have also reconsidered their Disney plans. 🍻
The most amazing thing is that I read an article published in the 70s where it was reported that Disneyland was amazingly affordable for families thanks to the efficient design of its facilities and services that allowed operating costs to be lower than what seemed possible.
@@zarach9459 I went to Disney in the late 70s it was fantastic. I was a kid but remember it fondly. Sadly I doubt my children would have a similar experience at today’s Disney world. 🍻
Sounds like he's trying to blame Chapek for all the park issues again. I also seem to remember an interview Iger did years ago when he was asked about the crowding problems at Disney and he responded with "that's a good problem to have".
As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's I loved Disney and always dreamed of going to the park. I've never been. I had a child 10 years ago and I wanted to take him when he was old enough to enjoy it! He's the perfect age right now...but sadly I would not go to the park if I had an all-expense paid vacation there! Disney cannot burn down fast enough.
Yeah born in 1981 here and childhood was mostly watching the Disney Channel (loved DTV's music video specials), loved the movies, and my earliest memory was my mom drawing Mickey and Minnie Mouse (I was 2 or 3). Even when Disney didn't always put out the best content (like during the 2000s with their sequel craze and subpar movies), I still had faith in the company, but that started going downhill during the 2010s when they started acquiring all of these different properties and I did notice the changes to the parks and I just started to lose faith in Disney as a whole. Now I did go Disney World in December 2021 since it was a life long dream, but I did say that would be the last time I'd support Disney in any form until they went back to being the company that Walt built. Still praying it happens, but yeah I am burnt out, and it hurts saying that since I was a hardcore Disney fanatic.
According to my mom who has been working for Disney for over 32 years in Merchandise at Disneyland...Sales are so Down 👎 in Merchandise Sales ..she never seen that in 3 decades
15:15 the main reason for this being is that Mickey and Co. have been reduced to product pitchmen over the decades, no different than the Flintstones, Looney Tunes, Popeye, etc. Whereas Mario, Minions, etc. have actual stuff going on. I’ll bet that the majority of kids these days aren’t even aware that Mickey was more than just an ad mascot and had actual features once upon a time.
Mickey mouse cartoons werent common when i was little. They would throw a lot of disney toons around, but the mouse was a rare treat. This was the 80's
Once upon a time, our family adored and trusted Disney. We trusted their content to be child friendly. We watched their films, Disney decor was in our home and our money went for vacations to visit the parks. In return, they insulted us and our values and they mocked our concerns. They tore down cherished memories and became immoral, greedy, arrogant and out of touch- the very things that we have always despised. We’re done with them and if they only knew how much we once loved them, they would might realize just how far they have fallen. I know that we aren’t alone in our sentiments. They have lost their way, their innocence and many, many once loyal fans and customers. I hope their empire collapses.
I am very grateful to people like yourselves for exposing these issues with Disney because I love Disney world and Orlando in general but we are getting priced out of going.
That's SO rich coming from Iger of all people. I have no sympathy for him OR the fools who gave him his position back after ousting the other Bob (Chapek.)
From what i've read, technically they did with Prince and the Pauper in 1990 with the film Rescuers Down Under as the main feature on theatrical release.
DIsney making movies wanting to change race/gender to include "marginalized" group, yet the parks are selling stuff with the price that is beyond the reach of the "marginalized" group.
I understand Disney is beholden to shareholders, but by becoming greedy, they are going against the magic that Walt had in mind. And karma is hitting them where it hurts.
I think the reason they took down WDW Splash Mt. is because the activisit pushing for this stupid move wanted to take out the one that made no sense to do so and would get the most push back. They are even trying to push Tokyo to take theirs down and the OLC is telling them to pound sand. Frankly if you want to see love for Walt and what his park would look like today if he was alive, go to Tokyo.
Japan is starting to do Disney better than Disney. Have you ever seen videos of their version of the electrical parade? They expanded on it, and added a ton more floats. It's enormous. Now I do think the Western side of things would run into some nostalgia issues if they tried to change it up too much, but I don't see any issues with adding more floats and extending the show. Can some Japanese anime company buy a controlling share in Disney already? Please?

The Parks have had maintenance and hygiene issues for decades now. Even before he left, Eisner had downgraded maintenance and cleaning schedules. Eye-gore and Cheapek cut back on maintenance even more. It's just now REALLY catching up to the parks as they've hit their celebration anniversaries. I got ill when I saw pictures of how DIRTY the boats were in one of the classic rides. I don't know if it was "A Small World" or another. I can suggest ONE re-theming since the boat rides tend to sink now! TITANIC. Why not? Disney owns Fox Film Studios, and Fox has at least 2 Titanic movies (1953, 1997) in its film library! It's too bad Disney doesn't allow cosplaying in its theme parks. Do you know how many couples would dress up as Rose and Jack to go on a Titanic ride?!?

I'm 55. I've never been to Disneyland. Neither have my children. I have a friend who grew up next door to Disneyland. He would sneak in and hang out at the park all day on a regular basis. After hearing his stories, I lost the desire to see it. Especially at the prices they are charging. I just can't justify spending that much. Just another tourists trap.
And who's fault is it for overspending on Fox and other critically underutilized IPs? Who keeps making movies aimed to bring in foreign money because they have political aspersions? Who keeps kowtowing to a vocal minority with fake activism? Who keeps recycling great movies into bad remakes that make less and less money? Maybe if Disney was run by someone competent who actually knows something about the brand and history of their company, they wouldn't need to keep raising park and merchandise prices.
It is, in a word, amazing. It's amazing how they have not only shot themselves in the foot, they also shot their other foot off, as well as both their hands (to their credit, that does take a certain kind of talent). They need to lower prices but it seems like they can't. They need something new and not woke that will really appeal to people, but they can't get out of their own way to do that. They need to start selling off some of the things they bought like Star Wars, Marvel, Fox, etc., and go through a MAJOR reboot of the company and start changing everything out and scale TF down given how over extended they are, but we know they won't. They need to fix shit at the parks, but don't have the staff for it and those they have would likely rather go work for Universal at this point. They need to rid themselves of activists, but they won't. They need a CEO who's name is not Bob, and while his contract does have an end date, who knows what'll happen after that. Lastly, they have insulted over half of their customer base when they lash out at them for having standards and not accepting the crap Disney has been doing for years now. Even if they start doing things that make sense again, the damage to the brand has been done.
I have to admit, I find it hilarious to watch Disney floundering. The woke nonsense, outrageous price hikes, garbage shows and movies and the fan blaming/hating, you reap what you sow and I have zero sympathy for them what so ever. #getwokegobroke #withoutrespectwereject
It isn't that it costs too much, it is that they have ruined their brand with greed and ego. Disney would have been fine if they had done right by their audiences.
My late wife and I honeymooned at Disney World in 1978, We showed up at Magic Kingdom, bought tickets, and walked in. Spent a fun, relaxing day. Ate good affordable food. Bought ticket books for the rides - "A" through "E". We enjoyed a day the likes of which you couldn't now imagine. A couple of years before her death in 2014 we went back. Walked up, bought our tickets, and went in. I could easily navigate all four parks pushing a wheelchair. Looking back, I see we were privileged. We enjoyed Disney World in its Golden Age.
Has he finally been humbled to realize that overly expensive prices are unappealing? Has he also realized that wokeness is bad, his rejection of most forms of traditional animation in theaters, and his acquisitions of the Muppets, Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox were mistakes also?
Golly, you don't have to go. Even three years ago, they were too expensive. I tried to book a trip for just 3 days and couldn't believe the prices. I told them to go pound sand and did something they would truly fear: I picked up the phone and called Universal's reservations hotline. 😁😂
As for Disney, I don't think they're going to get better until the "oil has been changed." or to be less metaphorical, the entire leadership dynamic is gone and replaced. If Disney does survive, it'll be in a MUCH reduced state, a relic of what it was when Walt's influence was still there. At this point, I'm just looking forward to Nintendo World.
Changing the oil won't do a thing. They need an engine overhaul but noooo, that would be too expensive. Too bad, Iger. You didn't want to change the oil and that "check oil" light has been on for two YEARS.
Iger: Let's just charge 5 a ticket... Everyone: HORRAY! Iger: But we'll charge 75 per ride.. Everyone: AWW! Iger: Wait...we will be giving free drinks! Everyone: HORRAY! Iger.. But it requires an 8 ride minimum... Everyone: AWW!!
Shocker pricing out family's infavour of young childless couples who would rather back pack abroad is not a good buisness moddle for a company who's bread and butter has always been family entertainment.
I think the damage is done. My household is 300k+ pre-tax. We have a pre-teen and young teen boy. My wife and I went there as kids. We went there for our honeymoon. We went there when our boys were both under 10. We *have* the money to burn. But, I haven't talked to anybody nor seen reviewers that feel like you can have a good time at Disney without just fire hosing money. We've talked about going and paying for the private concierge for a day. Just so we could make the best use of our time at Disney and then a couple days w/o. When we priced out a trip. We could take our kids to Europe for a week and get much more bang for our buck. So, eff it, we're going to Universal et al. We're skipping Disney. It blows our minds that we've made that decision... but the cost to *fun* ratio just isn't there anymore. Side note, my boys and I are huge SW fans, which means we don't like Disney SW. Had they done their Star Wars revamp based off of the prequel/original trilogies... you could talk me into blowing the money. But not for what I've seen on the parks channels about what SW they do have.
I cringed when I saw all the videos about how awful the SW theme parks are. The nail in the coffin was when their Mickey-stamped movies started coming out. Saw just one and couldn't finish watching. It was that bad...
Splash Mountain is going to wind up being a bunch of screens. They're not going to build a bunch of animatronics that cost money and need constant maintenance. It's going to be an utter disappointment.
Not only is universal adding a new theme park they are adding NEW attractions to their current parks including a minions villains training attraction where it’s basically like men in black/buzz light year shooter but u are walking thru the course. Sign me up!

This situation with Disney reminds me of that old saying you give some one a inch but they take a mile. I'm honestly shocked at how much power Disney was given
Disney closed at $93.57 Friday, they don’t have any capital to maintain the old Disney standards. Bob Iger is hoping that he can BS the market with positive sounding statements while actually delivering nothing. Iger is trying to keep up appearances so when the Disney acquisition happens it’s not a fire sale.
There's another reason Disney isn't fighting any of this. The copyright on Mickey Mouse is due to expire in January, 2024, which means that Mickey Mouse will enter the public domain. The only thing that can avert this is an act of congress, which, uh oh, is under republican control. Disney has gone very very quiet and is rolling over and taking all of this because if they fight it, the republican congress with flatly deny their request for a copyright extension and Mickey will no longer belong to Disney. Disney is bending over in every way possible and throwing around a lot of dark money to congress in order to keep them from killing Disney's corporate icon. Republicans are literally holding Mickey Mouse hostage for Disney's behavior, which is hilarious.
When i took my kid to disneyland the first time I paid 180 for 3 day hopper. then it went up next year to 230 something and they charged 4$ for a bottle of water, Next year I went water was back down to $2 a bottle but tickets went up again to 340 for a 3 day hopper. If Disney apologizes for the above, maybe I will forgive, but I will never forget.
The cost increases at the parks looked like a company trying to prop up their unprofitable streaming service using the profits from the other parts of the business - the parks.
Bingo! Disney parks guests are directly subsidizing their Disney+ losses.
@@SalivatingSteve The pricing and quality of streaming services don’t match on top of every freaking cable channel having a streaming service especially after Disney acquired Marvel rights and stopped all the popular shows on other streams people stayed for. Yes.
"T H E M E S S A G E" is a luxury belief with a vertically steep price tag.
Theres only so long you can fight against reality itself.
So, basically Disney went from “Everyone is special (but some are specialer)” to “You get what you pay for” to “there’s only so much Disney to go around” to “Please enjoy your ride on the Titanic”

I wouldn't just say that it's too expensive, but that everything is too expensive and you're getting poor quality too. Like paying for a brand name label thrown on cheap garbage. Or paying out of the a** in taxes and the government not fixing the potholes in the road or providing the poor quality medical care.
I never understood why people spent so much money to go to Disney. I'm glad my parents never took me there and spent thousands of dollars to pay for 15 dollar drinks, long lines, hotel commutes and rides that can't go higher than 200 feet.
Yeah, to me it's just an amusement park, there are tons of other amusement parks that are cheaper.
It's because marketing did their job really well.
Sorry but it was kinda worth it.
My parents took us to Disneyland once. I'm happy we went. especially since it was before the changes to Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc. But Six Flags has two parks within a day's travel, and they cost a fraction.
@@lynngreen7978six flags is for thrills and roller coasters. You get much more atmosphere at Disneyland. Or at least you uses to back in the day.

Go to Universal if you can
"People are over Disney."
This is the single greatest quote I have ever heard, in the HISTORY OF THE ENTIRE INTERNET!!!! Thank you, you two! You have made my year, and this year is barely over two months old!
I didn't realise people hated Finding Nemo so much. 20 years since that movie came out.
If Disney wants to make money again they need to drop the Woke Garbage, Invest in their park employees, and stop all needless spending
Like all the woke garbage.
This coming from the guy who bought Fox Studios for over 70 billion dollars which he overpaid for.
He is SO full of himself. I can't believe he fell for that trick. The people at Comcast didn't get this big by being foolhardy spenders. The way they outnegotiated him and left him to deal with the price tag was a stroke of business genius. I bet Universal's execs laughed when their parent company told them how they burned poor little Bob. (Note: Comcast owns Universal Studios' theme parks and the entire brand.)
Disney is not fighting Reedy Creek because they legally can not do it, unless they make admissions about management and ownership that would open them up to other legal proceeding. This is cover on other RUclips channels via Florida law and regs for Special Districts.
As for Iger schmoozing to get what he wants, legally there is no way for new Board to give him what Disney lost via elimination of Reedy Creek. If anyone even tries other Special Districts, see Universal will be well placed to either sue the state or lodge complaints about unequal treatment with Florida regulators which would trigger investigations and potentially criminal inquiries
Geeky needs to get over her idea that Iger is some master business man, he is literally the reason Disney is in trouble right now.

I agree didn't they build fancy mansions that sold for millions to then turn around and say how Disney was broke
This is why I go to Knott's...and currently planning a trip to Universal
Finally they see it.. We went in September and for JUST myself and my daughter my total costs were just shy of $7k. Food costs were easily the biggest hurdle along with resort stay. We stayed at the Carribean resort and while it WAS very nice and comfy it didn't justify the cost of $380 a night. I am fine with paying $50-60 per person for a nice dinner but $100+ is sky high. If I can't do the same trip for under $5k pricing I won't be going back.
Oh my. 😨
Was $380 a night including admission for two?
At those prices... I'd rather visit Ireland and Scotland.
7k?! Fuuuuuck that I’m going to Japan with that money
For just a little more you could probably have gone to Europe, definitely gone to Universal, or maybe even a cruise.
It might even have cost for less.
I hear Universal Orlando is pretty good. Plenty of smaller regional parks that are cheaper, and plenty fun.
Yep. Plus, if I see you in Orlando with out of state plates, I'm screaming obscenities at you and your family. Not worth it
The most amazing thing is that I read an article published in the 70s where it was reported that Disneyland was amazingly affordable for families thanks to the efficient design of its facilities and services that allowed operating costs to be lower than what seemed possible.
Nintendo park is better
@@zarach9459 I went to Disney in the late 70s it was fantastic. I was a kid but remember it fondly. Sadly I doubt my children would have a similar experience at today’s Disney world. 🍻
Sounds like he's trying to blame Chapek for all the park issues again.
I also seem to remember an interview Iger did years ago when he was asked about the crowding problems at Disney and he responded with "that's a good problem to have".
If Disney cut prices by 75%, I'd still rather go to Universal Studios.
Still praying it happens, but yeah I am burnt out, and it hurts saying that since I was a hardcore Disney fanatic.
if you can afford it, you should go. Every kid should experience Disney World at least once imo.
Yup... my kids have wanted to go, but they were fine with universal... I refuse to give a single cent more.
We're going to Orlando for spring break. Me, my wife and 2 children. Disneyworld is out of the question. Too expensive.
There are soooo many fun parks to take your kids to.
According to my mom who has been working for Disney for over 32 years in Merchandise at Disneyland...Sales are so Down 👎 in Merchandise Sales ..she never seen that in 3 decades
Sorry for your mom, happy Disney is failing!!!
If the park is full, it is not too expensive.
BUT you should get more attractions so that the pool of customer gets less packed.

You mind saying which part of Disney content isn’t children friendly and is immoral?? I need specific examples

I think the reason they took down WDW Splash Mt. is because the activisit pushing for this stupid move wanted to take out the one that made no sense to do so and would get the most push back. Japan is starting to do Disney better than Disney.
Have you ever seen videos of their version of the electrical parade? They expanded on it, and added a ton more floats. It's enormous.

Disney closed at $93.57 Friday, they don’t have any capital to maintain the old Disney standards. Bob Iger is hoping that he can BS the market with positive sounding statements while actually delivering nothing. Pricey wokeness is a deal breaker for me. Done with the Disney parks!
To quote pretty much every character from Drawn Together:
"UH DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
