I grew up on the great music of the 60's-70's. CCR has always been one of my favorites. John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. They don't have a bad song! Huge list of hits! "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Down On The Corner", "Susie Q", "I Put A Spell On You", "Proud Mary", "Born On The Bayou", "Fortunate Son", "Travelin' Band", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Run Through The Jungle", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" etc.
Hey, Dagmar!! I grew up in that same time period. CCR is great. I most like their "I put a spell on you" & "Susie Q".
Great list Dagmar! I would add "Up Around the Bend."
Yes. I'm the same generation and love all their stuff.
"I Heard It Through The Grapevine" is an absolute MUST listen/reaction to! Awesome, full-on jam session that really packs a punch.
"Centerfield"
There are no lame CCR songs, just that, so dive in. "I Put a Spell On You," "Long As I Can See the Light," "Run Through the Jungle," "Fortunate Son"....the deep blue soul and absolute encapsulation of the times make CCR a landmark band.
That’s true
Run Through the Jungle is a Great song. one of my favorites from CCR
Here is a fool proof way to find a great CCR song - pick any album, any song, and press play.
CCR's breakup was gut wrenching, a very bitter breakup. Long version of "Heard it Through the Grapevine" is awesome. You will be hard pressed to find a bad song! "Green River" "Fortunate Son" "Born on the Bayou".. the list goes on!
Short songs were the norm in the days of AM Top 40 radio.
I believe CCR also holds the record for the most #2s without ever having a #1.
Correct, 5 songs went to #2👍✌️
As you listen to more CCR I want to bring your attention to something that I think too many people miss about John Fogerty. He wrote the songs, he sang the songs with that unique and charismatic voice, but he also was, in my opinion, a phenomenal guitarist. He's never mentioned when people speak of the great guitarists, but I think he belongs in that loose grouping of guitarists at the top of the rock & roll world. He was never flashy, the word "shredding" rarely came to mind when he did solos, but he was incredibly creative, and always musical within the framework of the song. All of those hits songs, and the deep cut songs from the albums, he always came up with a memorable riff or hook that grabbed your attention and made the song immediately recognizable after you've heard it a couple of times. He kept making music after CCR, but contract issues with an ex-manager which caused him to completely lose ownership and control of his own songs, really took the wind out of his sales for about a decade. That's an interesting and tragic story that you might want to seek out and read, or maybe there's a documentary video about it.
John Fogerty is the man.
Well said, Kevin. Fogerty's guitar playing never really got the attention or the respect it deserved. But I think that's because his guitar mastery was never really featured on any of their studio recordings in a manner that would draw any attention to it.
Many of their songs were played during the Vietnam War years because the troups could relate to the words of the songs compared to what they were experiencing. This song was one of them. I have always loved CCR and would love for you to share more.
If you’ve never seen the movie American Werewolf in London you might want to add it to your watch list, this song was used in it with hilarious effect.
Indeed-Rick Baker at his best 😊😊😊
Love that movie. I had a crush on David Naughton for a while.
That movie scared the bejeebers out of me!
@Vicki K very funny though 🙂🙂🙂
@@jodij6280 I was more into Jenny Agguter 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Brings me back to my time in the Marines 68-72 CCr was real big with us this song along with Fortunate Son and Run through the Jungle and others will always have a special place in my heart
Grew up listening to CCR. Every song is a jam. My parents raised me on 60s-80s Rock. Guess that makes me an older soul since Im only 33
Same, even the same age! CCR to me will always mean Sunday mornings, as my dad used to wake us up playing one of their albums full blast lol
Good on you! You have EXCELLENT taste! Keep listening and exploring!!!!!
If you haven't seen the movie, "American Werewolf London" I highly recommend it. This song is featured prominently in that movie.
When I think of classic rock, CCR is the first name that comes to mind. I can't think of any other group who created so many classic songs in such a short period of time. They were the soundtrack of their generation.
CCR is an all time great! A California band that liked the swampy sound of the South. They don't sound like a "groovy Sixties band," but kind of like a timeless swamp country rock band. In their classic hits, I think they hit their notes about as well as Mozart did. It's the perfect representation of the subject matter.
Lots of choices for follow-ups. Favorites include: "Down on the Corner," "Green River," "Up Around the Bend," "Run Through the Jungle," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," and "Born on the Bayou."
The songs were kept short because they had to be to get aired on AM radio stations. Many times the album and live versions were longer but would get cut down for the 45RPM records, which is what most AM radio stations played. That slowly changed due to public demand and the development and success of FM stations, which often played the longer album versions.
I get nervous listening to this song. Lol. Love CCR. Everything is so " bling bling " today. It's so refreshing to see those 4 young men in such simple clothes and surroundings. Incredible music came out of such simplicity. I love it.
These guys are sooo good. If this song was too short for you, check out their 11 minute cover of "I Heard it Through the Grape Vine". Maybe check out Marvin Gaye's classic version first, though.
Your appreciation to Marvin actually gives a look into who you are as a person. I bet you're pretty awesome. God bless you in life.
Now react to a long one...."I Heard It Through the Grapevine." One of their absolute best.
I agree
Nobody could marry groovy, upbeat melodies with dour, ominous lyrics like CCR. Not all their songs are like this, but as you say, it is impactful!
CCR music represents our days of great cars, great music, great dancing and just fun. Wonderful times
John Fogarty....Lead Singer & Lead Guitar...Songs to hear " Green River " " Born On The Buyou " " I Put A Spell On You " " Run Though The Jungle " " I Heard It Though The Grapevine " The Long Version!! Just a few GEMS!! You'll See The Sixties...Early Seventies Produced So Much MUSIC OH & Many Songs Were Short For Commercial A M RADIO.
Most of their songs are folk rock, swamp rock, or blues, with some psychedelic stuff thrown in. You will enjoy the all! The whole Cosmos’s Factory album is a gem. Also the self titled album from 1968.
Very cool to hear this old thing again! Loved it then, and still liking it now. Back in those days we kept things short and punchy because some audiences were a bit sketchy and you never really knew how long you might get away with anything. ;o)
Heard this in a Polish drama just last night, I loved it when it first came out and had forgotten about it. I've heard so much music over my nearly 80 years it's hard to remember everything but that little guitar lick is etched in the memory, as soon as you hear the song it comes flooding back. :) Very catchy music. Makes you want to get up and dance.
LOVE CCR!!! You need to listen to their cover of “I heard it through the grapevine”
Not only do you need to dive into the CCR rabbit hole but you definitely need to check out the rabbit hole of John Fogerty's solo work. Dude is so underrated as a rocker and guitarist. All of his songs are legendary.
Nothing flashy but great sound. A lot of huge hits. This song has been used in werewolf and War movies over time. I grew up listening to these guys.
This song was featured in the movie "An American Werewolf in London" right before the iconic werewolf transformation scene, which, btw, is a must see. I love the way the lyrics are so dark, but the music sounds so happy. It's a weird juxtaposition.
I'm so excited that you've started listening to them! They're my favorite. I named my dogs Fogerty and Proud Mary after the singer and one of their songs. 😅
This song was featured at a pivotal moment in a very good quirky horror move "An American Werewolf in London" in 1981 where the soundtrack was nothing but songs about the moon. Well worth a watch if you're ever at a loose end. I heard the song when it first was released and it fit the sound of the time very well. No surprise it was a hit. Lots of songs from that time were short because of the 3 minute limit for radio play time which was really the only way for bands to get exposure then.
Great music from a great band, I love John Fogerty's voice. Try "Long as I Can See the Light" THE best version of that song and my personal favourite "Have You Ever Seen the Rain".
Back in the sixties and early seventies artists put out 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 minute songs to please the record label and get radio airplay.
Guess the big shots didn't think people had a very long attention span.
I, myself, enjoyed the shorter stuff but I also got into album oriented and psychedelic rock with anywhere from 8 and 9 to 35 minute songs.
YOUR VERYYYY 1ST CREEDENCE SONG, NO WAYYYYY!😊YEAH SALVO THEIR ( CHRONICLES ) ALBUM IS A GREATEST HITS 😊YOU'LL LOVE THE POWERRRRRR IN THE FOGERTY VOICE!
Swamp Rock.
We, like every other 70's high school band, played this and other CCR songs.
Point of Note: To get on the radio, songs back then had to be under 3 mins.
🎹🎹🎹 🎸🎸
Many very good songs. "Fortunate Son" is a good anti-Vietnam War song. Back when their songs were on the radio, I thought they were a band from Louisiana or bayou country. Turns out they were from San Francisco! Wow. I never would have guessed that.
This song always cracks me up. Pretty bouncy tune for a song about death and destruction.
I used to think they were singing “There’s a bathroom on the right”. Which gave it a whole different meaning.
@@Hartlor_Tayley SAME LMAO
The 60s were a turbulent time. Lots of songwriters and singers loaded their lyrics with questions, protests, fears, hopes, and meanings that went deeper than the love ballads of the 50s, or the disco beats of the 70s. If you keep this up, you will review my entire youth from high school through college and into adulthood. Do keep it up. Your reactions are paying due respect to the artists, and I'm loving it.
FORTUNATE SON next, and then HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN?, but almost every song is a gem. They’re short and sweet and hard to beat!
That song used to scare me. I thought they knew something I didn’t. Ha!
We have full page pics of CCR in our high school annual.
Absolutely need to react to their banger BORN ON THE BAYOU, first track on their 2nd album Bayou Country - they helped define/characterize the Swamp Rock genre. A favorite among the troops in 'Nam. PROUD MARY was a John Fogerty original, and they have a killer recording of HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE.
One of my favorite groups saw them live in 1969 they were amazing ✌🏻♥️
Their songs are short because they needed to be in order to get play time on AM radio. They were such a fantastic group and had so many hits. You'll enjoy your dive into their music.
The First song I ever danced to at my 8th Grade dance was “ Susie Q” 1968 😁👍🏻. That’s a longer song with some Great Guitar solos
CCR has a great swampy southern rock, Born on the Bayou, Fortunate Son, Heard it thru the Grapevine John Fogarty is fantastic
That was my uncle's favorite group before he passed away he loved CCR as he referred to them Clarence Clearwater revival
Love CCR, they have guided me in my life since childhood.. I felt so sorry for Tom Fogery as how his life turned out, and with the Rock, and Roll hall of Fame torned out. Lots of turmoil, but Great music
Not a bad song by them. "Fortunate Son" is a super famous one. "Have you ever seen the rain?" is my personal favorite.
CCR commented on a lot of the unrest going on in American society then, and this one fits that description, as does Fortunate Son. Lead singer John Fogarty lost a bunch of time in legal disputes and woes with record labels (not sure exactly what) but his later solo hit Centerfield was an exuberant return to music. I love that you’re delving into some older music and I really enjoyed your reaction, as always. Peace …
Brothers were feuding to this day
Ohhhh I so love Fogerty!PLEASE watch/listen to more of him SG!
Their sound was truly unique and the man had one of the most powerful voices ever (imo).
Faves-
Born on the Bayou
Green River
Fortunate Son
That group there is the ones who made proud Mary you take care and God bless
🎶 "There's a bathroom on the right" 🎶
So loved CCR !!!!!!!!!! No bad songs ! 🔥🔥🔥
Every song of theirs is awesome. Go down the rabbit hole for sure. Try "It Came Out of the Sky," or " Midnight Special." My 2 favorites of theirs.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT....
John Fogerty from CCR is one of my husband's favorite singers.
Long as I can see the Light is their most bluesy song, I recommend it. But really anything off of Cosmos Factory is great.
This was my grandpa's favorite band, he bought one of their tapes in the 70s and it never left his old silverado until we found it after he passed in 2020. Great memories
First time I saw them in concert was in 1971 and the indoor stadium was packed. James Taylor opened for them and he wasn't bad either 🙂 My favorites, by far, are "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" & "Who'll Stop The Rain." You get a little more of the Country Rock sound with either of those. Most of their songs were under 2:30, as that was the standard for radio play back in the day. I hope you'll check out more of CCR, even if not either of those two. The others are more standard Rock for the late 60's - early 70's.
Out My Back Door!
Dobie Gray --Drift away
Dobie Brothers--Black water
Eagels--seven Bridge's Rd. The list is endless 60's ,70's &80's had the best music .
Brilliant short and sweet song with a good message. Easy to learn on guitar too! Only three chords!
Dad had a guy in his platoon in 'Nam. He loved CCR and would sing. Every single time he sang this song, they got hit.
Fogherty is touring this summer - we’re seeing him outside of Chicago!
Oh, you are going through all the best music from my high school years. CCR is awesome. Music from 60's, 70's & 80's are all classic.
CCR had so many great songs so you'll have your hands full picking another one. I would recommend Born on the Bayou. When that song came out many people had already heard Proud Mary which was their friendly sounding A Side single. Proud Mary 's B side contained Born on the Bayou and it reached number 2 on the charts which is incredible for a B side! Many folks were blown away by this song as there was nothing like it on the radio at the time. John Fogerty's vocal is legendary on this song.
Some say it's about night time missions in Viet Nam. John Fogerty is a veteran.
feel-good grooves: down on the corner, lookin' out my back door
bluesy/soul introspective: long as i can see the light
protest-type songs: fortunate son, who'll stop the rain, have you ever seen the rain
swamp rock: green river, born on the bayou, i heard it through the grapevine, proud mary
CCR had so many hits from the late 60s to early 70s, and they were the #1 rock band in the US. They were so good that their more unknown songs were in many cases better than their hits. Songs like 'Keep on Chooglin', (their encore song in concerts), 'Ramble Tamble', 'Cross-tie Walker', 'Tombstone Shadow', 'Effigy', and many others.
Your so right! You nailed it! I think Ramble Tamble is their best, just my opinion, their long jam songs wernt played on the radio👍✌️
There used to be a dj in my town who had a "Misconstrued Lyrics Contest" and this was high on the list with many people hearing "There's a bathroom on the right" instead of "There's a bad moon on the rise"!
Great music to party to…🖖🏻🇨🇦
Bear in mind, radio wouldn’t play long songs. Not until the “underground FM” came to be.
John in his 70's is still singing, recording and doing concerts!
Iconic Band! Swamp Rock! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
♥ CCR!
Fortunate son is fantastic.
Hi love every CCR song grew up with them..when it was used in Amercan Werewolf in London( which you must see btw it's fantastic)i was so happy. They we're all short songs back then for the radio. 'Looking out my backdoor' 'Long as i can see the light' my personnel fav. And 'Lodi' aaah hell all their songs. Oh i also love for the joke.. "Mis-heard lyrics" "Theres a bad moon on the rise" was mis heard as " theres a bathroom on the right. So be a 'Fortunate Son' and listen to more CCR.✌
That was my first record ever Cosmos Factory album was the album it was on !
Not to mention Proud Mary, Down On The Corner and Lookin Out My Back Door…Who’ll Stop The Rain!
Listen to Born on the Bayou by CCR. You will get a great taste of their swamp rock sound. But honestly any CCR song is a great song. I saw John Fogerty in concert a few years ago and it was one of the best concerts I ever went to. To hear the audience singing along with him to these songs was priceless.
Born on the Bayou. The greatest CCR song by far.
Long version of I Heard It Through the Grapevine or Suzy Q would give you a more meaty impression of what this band could do but, honestly, you can't go wrong with any CCR song.
I always took it as, life is going to throw you all kinds of devastation, don't go out if you fear for your life, but keep on truckin' with a positive attitude.
Sing " there's a bathroom on the right " not " there's a bad moon on the rise" once you sing it you'll never get it out of your head. CCR incredible group by the way. Love and peace from Perth Australia 👋🎶🎵🎶🦘💕
PS anything off Cosmos Factory, you can't go wrong with that Album from CCR.
Oh yeah, one of the songs that made misheard lyrics lists
Great song, it has one of the most famous misunderstood lines in rock music, instead of "Bad Moon Rising" some people here, 'bathroom on the right'
Just for Fun, in concert live now, John Fogerty will sing "Theres a bathroom on the right". CCR was John Fogerty. Lead singer, lead guitar and wrote all the songs. Argumently The Best American Rock Band Ever..... Check out CCR Live at Albert Hall in London on RUclips.....
This song is used in many horror movies.
I have some Furbys I play this and they all rock hard!!!
😂👍
Great song from a great group, John Fogerty on lead vocals
fortunate son is the most iconic for me. it's worth a listen. if you've ever seen a war movie taking place in vietnam, you probably heard a short clip of it in the helicopter scene.
I've seen a live performance where he sings "there's a bathroom on the right" on one chorus.
*LOVE* CCR!
Born on the Bayou is a must.
just checked first few comments and don't see 'Up Around The Bend' which is one awesome song
You gotta hear Ramble Tamble from their album “Cosmo’s Factory” Cosmo was the nickname of drummer Doug Clifford. R T is a great song to listen to after you partake some herb.. it’s 8-10 minutes long, can’t quite remember.. and it’s unforgettable. Really great track ✌🏻😄
Loved the movie by this title as well. Strangely, the music never played in the movie. But, hey, John Wayne! Good enough for me.
Absolutely love this song of theirs! Try Sloop John B by the Beach Boys…my other favourite from around this time.
Pleas react to SWEET HITCH HIKER and UP AROUND THE BEND by CCR my favorite top 40 am songs on the radio back in 69 and 70,s great fast rythem and great guitar riffs !
A lot of songs are in the 3 minute range from that era due to "slot size" on radio stations schedules.
CCR, yes! Love them! I’m digging thru your vids trying to catch up. Love your channel, BTW. Always great to see someone love the music we lived to. I was wondering if you’ve done any Allman Brothers Band? If not, I think you would really like Whipping Post, Live At Fillmore East. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
Singles were short back then to fit the AM programming..In my clubbing days the bands would play this and change the words alittle...lol..It was sung with them saying...""Bathroom on the right""..
Once you start with CCR, you can't stop! Look for Down on the Corner; Proud Mary; Have you ever seen the Rain
CCR, now here is a band worth the trip down the rabbit hole. :)
I love CCR! This great song also holds another unique distinction! Lol "Most misheard lyrics"! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😁
Listen closely when he sings "There's a bad moon on the rise" ...and see if you can hear it - "there's a bathroom on the right"!? HAHA I've listened to this song since it came out and I can't hardly sing the correct lyrics at that part!! 😁😉
Definitely check out Born on the Bayou next, it is longer and will give you a better idea of their sound. And has quite a groove!
