    I really appreciate the DJI Focus Pro content! It seems like not very many are continuing coverage on the actual use, functionality and integration into gigs now that the units are actually starting to get into people’s hands - it was just a slew of promo stuff announcing the gear unfortunately - so as a system owner I really appreciate your content.

    I just had a travel job with extremely limited crew (me + AC) and I chose the SDR specifically because of the WiFi so I could have the director monitor off their iPad. That way we didn't have to worry about wrangling extra cases, batteries, etc. and it worked great!

    Hey, I'm using the Focus Pro with a Red Pro Zoom 18-85 lens. No issues whatsoever, if your flange and lenses are tuned right - and the lidar distance is measured correct, I just calibrate my lens at 85mm (1m and 4m away, flex spot selected on the lens target prior lens cal), and it basically works like a charm. Two things to note - the Pro Grip focus wheel lag can be avoided using the FIZ controller to focus during calibration on the Pro Grip (it overrides it), second - I tend to use my Nucleus M handgrips to control zoom (with M motors of course) - one set to joystick + joystick speed, second set to zoom on a knob for faster crush zooms. Still, it's hard to set A/B points on Nucleus M even - they tend to some why slip after being applied.Thus I just recal my motor and stop it with a hand while calibration at marks that I need, if limited range is crucial to be precise. Also I've noticed that on low or high angles - if the lidar unit is placed over mattebox - it tends to miss focus closer than 1.22m, while it does not when the camera attack angle is straight. I've come to the conclusion that it happens due to the lidar sensor being physically closer to an actors face compared to the lens (remember, it's over a 4x5,6 mattebox, several cm difference from the lens center). For static low angles, say, on a lo-hat - I just slide my lidar distance to a lower number, usually 40-60mm depending on the lens size and mattebox size. That's pretty much it

    • @alexlubensky
      @alexlubensky Месяц назад +1

      Overall I dig the Lidar itself, the tracking, the focusing quality (it's better than I've expected, however, in some situations is slower than manual focusing - like on crush dolly moves), I hate the screen size (it's too small to tap precisely, usually I just angle my camera at something I want to focus on, pull the trigger, and it tracks it), the cables that DJI are selling are way too short - I do use an extension cable for better cable management (other cables won't fit into the Pro Grip physically), the motor mount is way better than 12mm previous one, but still way too far from a normal mount like Nucleus M motors, and lacking 19mm support. The app calibration is limited to preset lenses, you can't do manual cal on lenses that aren't in the app, and the lidar to sensor distance is somewhy limited to only 300mm - which is way too short for any bigger lens with a mattebox on it (say any Ana over 100mm, or any standard zoom lens like 18-85 RPZ, 18-80 Arri Allura etc) - and this limitation is silly, I hope they will allow at least 500mm, and release longer cables (which BH say they can't, but literally it works using extension cables, so wth).

    • @alexlubensky
      @alexlubensky Месяц назад +2

      And yeah, whoever was designing the system is def. not familiar with film sets, because lots of things on the user side are just made wrong - the cables (maybe angled ones will help, I will try the angle adapter to see if it will work), the Pro Grip mount (limited to nato, when puchasing I was sure it's some nato adapter on a standard arri rosette - which it appears it is not), the lidar still not having proper mounting options (maybe someone will come up with a cage, so you can slap it on to a magic arm or other 1/4 or 3/8 with arri locating pins accessory, or even a nato rail), the power management is weird - the Pro Grip is 7v, but all-in-one kit comes with a d-tap to usb-c cable which is unregulated and people fry their grips etc etc etc. They definitely have to hire a better person on the camera rigging side to make things proper, because right now it's so limited and it's such a shame - this thing is so awesome to have this kinds of stupid omissions.

    The GOAT has spoken.

    • @cammackey
      @cammackey Месяц назад +1

      Also.. zooms. If you’re having any issues with it AF..
      Need to use the 2X zoom on the lidar. And also keep it in wide mode. If you do flex mode, it might give you issues. The issues are coming from the zoom blocking the lidar views. Hence the 2X will help crop it out. The real fix is to mount the lidar motor closer to the front of the lens so there is nothing in its FOV.

    • @cammackey
      @cammackey Месяц назад +2

      Also, if you just set you zoom motor to “I” Iris mode.. it’ll let you use that iris knob and gives you more freedom with parfocal lenses

    • @CineDailies
      @CineDailies  Месяц назад +1

      The REAL goat has spoken! I'll revisit this. When setting up the zoom, I treat it like a prime at first, right?

    • @cammackey
      @cammackey Месяц назад +1

      @@CineDailies yup yup! Obviously this will only work with parfocal lenses. So you want to use the same traditional workflow. So we were using the Laowa nanomorph zooms with it, obviously it’s limited in distance but works great within its boundaries.
      So, my AC put a kondorblue cold shoe adapter on the front lens support, which basically put the lidar front and center on the lens. From there, since it’s a parfocal zoom.. when calibrating it I would zoom all the way in, then calibrate it. From there it would hold focus after calibrated.
      Obviously, you already know this, but you have to make sure that the zoom AND adapter are shimmed correctly for the parfocal zoom to properly work. Otherwise the lidar focus is jsut gonna keep drifting. Its a beautiful setup tho once it’s nailed

      @@CineDailiesNo, unfortunately it isn’t recognized as a webcam when plugged into a Mac. The DJI Transmission monitor shows up as a webcam when plugged in, although it has a whole other set of problems. Ultimately ended up using a blackmagic capture card to bypass this issue, but would really love better usb connection functionality
