Yes, yes, and yes! I can't like this more! I really lucked out in finding a Zenbook 14X (Raptor Lake) for $430. It was an open box deal, no scratches, no problems, the only downside was no charger, which was replaceable with a ROG charger.
@@cameronbosch1213being plugged into the charger destroys the purpose of a laptop. Laptops are meant to be unplugged and used on battery. If you are going to be plugged into the charger then just buy a desktop.
Amazing video Josh! My favorite so far. Perfect analysis, simple straight to the point, and I love to hear you compare all the different chips and laptops in one video. You simply are the best in the industry by far 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Lets be honest, most light users really don't need Core Ultra 2 or M4 devices, and would be pefectly happy with something that's 2-3 years old and half the price of the latest devices.
You're so underrated tbh. I have a refurbished(i think)laptop with an intel i5 8250u cpu and a 720p display. Even tho it's display sucks but what sucks more is the battery life. I hardly get upto 1 hr battery life. I only bought it because I got it for a crazy discount and due to the limited budget ofc. Next time I buy one, I'd have the knowledge I need. Thanks a lot for educating us normal people! Keep it up
the battery life is most likely due to the age of the battery, 8th gen Intel is LONG ago. your best bet is to buy a new battery and replace it. and what's the laptop brand and model? if you're willing to share
you haven't mentioned that there are a very limited number of games working on mac (I am a mac user myself), but i do agree with everything else you said. I don't think a mac is the best option for a gamer as of today, maybe next year there will be more games available.
Thank you for this. I typically go for Apple products but my 2009 MacBook is in desperate need of replacing. I’m open to either windows or Apple so this really helped me compare them all side by side!
I disagree with you about Snapdragon. For most people, they make great laptops that doesn't have the power issues that Intel processors have. The more people using them, the more software that will get ported to work natively. Not for gamers (yet) and if you have specific application that you need to work with, make sure it supports ARM. But Lunar Lake processors seem to have an issue when working on batter power that requires you to set them to a higher power setting and that almost completely remove the battery advantage that it was supposed to deliver. Intel has had significant issues in their last several mobile processors and I don't think they are going to get it right any time soon. It is still early days, but ARM has taken over the server world and Apple's line. I am ready for it to take over Windows laptops.
I was gonna say the same thing. I have a Surface Laptop 7 and im extremely happy with it for daily tasks. The battery life is extremely long and there is no audible fan noise at all. Its like an Apple with Windows installed natively :)
Couldn't agree more. I'm using the Galaxy Book 4 Edge because I'm in the Samsung ecosystem. Not only does it run circles around my 2024 G16 in battery life (13-ish hours compared to around 8 or 9), but performance is great and it almost never gets hot when I'm installing stuff or doing dev work. You can even run a few light games if you wish (I don't because my G16 is my gaming rig lol). I'm extremely impressed and can't wait to see where the platform goes with some maturity to it.
I haven't owned an apple device in over a decade, but I needed to update my laptop and I didn't want to spend loads of money, as it is only for occasional use. The best 'bang for buck' laptop for basic use is the Macbook Air with M1 chip. You can pick them up very reasonably priced on the used market. I would still much prefer a windows laptop, but there isn't really any power efficient options under £1000 at the moment.
Josh, one thing that might be important is that eventhough the AMD version of the G16 is better, the intel comes with 4080, which I think will be significant for people with higher GPU task needs and extra VRAM, also the 4080/90 versions have a vapor chamber cooling system
Yes, I do talk about this in my upcoming video "Best Laptop of 2024" and I mention this on our website when you look up that laptop. Its a good point and an important one. The vapor chamber cooling system doesn't help that much with its fan noise btw
I think nobody could make a 16" 4K touch screen display with 120hz at this time. If you want a faster display, get a lower resolution likes 3K instead. I also don't understand why Asus price the G16 higher than the P16 since they are both the same.
Seriously, if they had managed to give the PX13 a 120hz display with VRR, it would have been the closest thing we've ever seen to the "perfect 13 inch laptop."
@Wally_MD EXACTLY. The G16 doesn't have enough RAM for many users, and 16 GB of RAM in 2024 for what you're paying for these laptops is unacceptable when it's soldered. Asus has forgotten how to make good laptops.
Any chance you could you review, the Honor Magicbook art 14 ? (which has a detachable webcam, built into the chassis & can flip 180 degrees to make front or rear facing) looks like a promising future idea.
Josh brother i like and respect you but you keep making this same mistake unknowingly: subscribers mean nothing... its LIKES yoy should promote. One person can subscribe ONE TIME.... but that saame one person can like ... 10....15.... 20 videos. Likes matter in modern day RUclips, sub count does not
I dont think that he cares much about likes and more about an audience that sticks to the channel. There are so many tech channels with millions of subs, but only a fraction of those who are subscribed actually visit the channel regularly. Which I believe is what this channel wants to avoid. Sure, means less range and money, but thats not everything that matters.
@Waldherz you missed what he said and what he meant: he absolutely wants to grow this channel and one of his first talking points was reminding people to subscribe. But if he looked at how many people click his videos from the sub feed, it's likely a very very very small % compared to recommended. Recommend = they previously hit the like button
@@Waldherz that's 500% how it works. When almost-anyone is browsing RUclips now, the videos people click are recommended to them. The two BIGGEST factors in recommend are likes and comments. That's called engagement. One could argue subscribing = engagement but that's basically misleading. I can leave 50+ comments on a channel over 1 year. I can like 50+ of that channels videos in 1 year too. How many times can I subscribe to their channel?
My first time on this channel, but glad that I ran into this video as I am looking to buy a laptop this thanksgiving. Very good and informative video, aptly highlighting the pros and cons. Loved this video. I am planning to go for dell xps 13 with snapdragon X Elite. Any views or comments on that?
I personally don't love the current XPS line due to the lack of a physical function row. If you are OK with that it's a good laptop. I personally use the Surface Laptop 7 though when it comes to Snapdragon laptops
I think this list needs to be seriously revised with the 650 dollar deal on the new Vivobook S14 with Lunar Lake. That's as good as it gets for a student/office worker laptop.
I bought the M3 pro last year, not knowing it had a slower SSD than the M2 pro. But I only take notes with it in class and watch RUclips, so I am not affected by it. I was surprised by how much the M4 has improved over the M3.
Base M4 won’t beat your M3 Pro. But since you won’t have use for that it doesn’t really matter. Maybe battery life is the only thing you’d have seen improved had you bought M4 rather than M3 Pro (18h vs 22h)
I can buy a Ryzen 7 8845HS / 16GB / OLED laptop for 50% of a new AI HX 370 system. The new chips look great (20-30% faster), but not 2x the price great. $750 vs $1500 is a big difference.

You’re the best ever techie reviewer I come across. I ain’t kidding. I learnt a lot of technical stuff from this video. I’ll make a wise choice in buying my next laptop. Thanks mate. Keep it going. ❤❤❤
Of note, the Lunar Lake processors are a one off for Intel as they're expensive to produce. There are no plans for subsequent generations. Leaving the future of efficient processors to... Qualcomm? MS needs to sort out Prism.
I'm guessing Panther Lake should be a pseudo-replacement to Lunar Lake, meaning not a direct successor, but also should fill in the gap that a potential Lunar Lake successor would fill in. It shouldn't have the same battery life as Lunar Lake, and will likely have lower, but it should be quite close to it, and make it a viable alternative, with better performance of course.
Comment for the compsci students - I initially wanted high ram and a NVIDIA gpu so i could use cuda to train a CNN for my thesis, but honestly its unnecessary, just use a cloud instance! I SSH'd into a gcp tpu to train my model and it only cost $40 total. So theres no real need to go buy a g16 or mega gaming laptop unless your software needs to run on device, in which case you probably prioritise cpu over gpu. So don't necessarily let MacBook or Snapdragon compatibility be a massive issue. Either way avoid the gaming laptops, go for a thin and light
Me using Lenovo T490 8th gen and feels it is still good, but time is comming to upgrade. In next purchase i think performance will not be a problem. Best build quality and amazing battery will make a difference

Is the 16” M3 Pro 36/512 still worth buying? Best Buy has this on sale for $2400. The 16” M4 pro 24/512 is $2200. Is the newer chip and the slight difference in cpu and gpu worth $200 less? Will be running Windows 11 with parallels for some gaming. Sorry but I really don’t want a windows machine. Any suggestions? Josh?
I currently run an MSI Stealth 66 15.4in with i7 10th gen with separate video card and an add on 15in monitor. I upgraded the ram from 16 to 64 and it's still slow at times and locks up. I stream everything and usually have 4-10 open windows at a given time. Usually a RUclips, several sporting gmes, like football, etc plus might have a game or 3 open like Candy Crush and the others. I get bored easily and like to jump around. The worst thing about this laptop are the internal speakers, very tinny and I run an external usb speaker that helps a ton but takes up a usb port. I run the extra monitor off the Thunderbolt port and it runs great. The battery and fans suck as well, fans are loud and battery only last maybe 5 minutes. I've never operated a Mac and know nothing about their software, etc so probably should stay away from them. Opinions on what you think I should look into for a new laptop? I'd like to stay under $1500 but open, HELP.. Thanks
Been kind of a big question for me: Should I buy a laptop or a PC? I want gaming and schoolwork to take on trips, but my friends say Laptops suck- I personally think not, but I want opinions, optionally professional.
Hi Josh, I was looking around at refurbished models at Backmarket, and I found a 2019 16-inch i7 Macbook Pro for around $500 with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD; I also saw it comes with an AMD 8 GB VRAM graphics card. do you think this laptop is viable compared to similarly priced laptops? I am a student and a creative; I mostly use Word documents, edit video projects and photos as a side hustle, and watch a lot of content, i.e., movies, anime, and TV shows, so I love a big screen. Also into music production and using the computer to play tracks and record virtual synthesizers and guitar amps. I don't know how long apple will support this laptop, but do we really need support that much? I've seen a guy use a 2015 MacBook pro for everything he does and he still accesses the internet and gets work done. The alternative is to get a 13-inch Air with m1 8 GB RAM and 256 SSD that may be supported for longer. What do you think of Intel Macs at this price?
You could’ve bought an hp Victus on Walmart if you had looked closely to the budget segment in the last couple of weeks. 13420H 4050 at $499. 16+512 tho
The latest Intel Lunar Lake laptops and Ryzen "AI" stuff (Strix Point) are so expensive right now. I doubt we'll see good deals for these as they are both very new and there's not a ton of laptop models with those CPUs. With that said, I need a 14-inch light laptop (up to 1.6kg), mostly for office stuff but also for light photo and video editing for short social media clips. I hope to grab Intel Meteor Lake (either Ultra Core 5 125H or Core 7 155h) or Ryzen 8845HS. Since this is a long-term buy, I require 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD and a great display (hi-res, high refresh rate, maybe OLED if possible). Hoping to grab one for 1000 Euros in Germany.
If you can get an Edu discount the Ideapad 14 APH9 might be an option. 800€ for 32GB Ram and 1TbSSD with R7 8845HS But the 14 inch model is said to suffer from constant fan noise due to a bad fan software by lenovo (they will not fix it) But its currently the cheapest 32GB laptop with 8845HS processor ALso has a huge 84Wh battery
@@thedarknightnicht That's a great price, but I don't have an educational discount. But even without edu discount, it's priced 900€ on the Lenovo website. Fan noise is annoying, but I guess for a good price it can be tolerable. But the biggest problem is that I've had terrible experience with Lenovo IdeaPad and broken hinges. And then dealing with support was a nightmare. Anyway, thanks for info, I'll consider that one.
@@DustyKing Intel Meteor Lake has some advantages over AMD, but they are very specific and niche. Outside Cinebench and Geekbench there's a real-world usage and software that usually has better integration with Intel hardware,
I was in the stubborn catigory. Until the M4 Pro 16 came out. I turned in the ProArt 16 for the 16 inch MacBook Pro version, not the max. Thanx Bestbuy. The M3 and 2 were close to the new AMD in performance, but the new M4 took things to a new level. Very satisfied even if I like Windows a little better. I'm not sure why Amd and Intel are so slow to respond. Maybe Nvidia will make a new cpu/graphics chip to make Windows competitive.

I don't think the influencers understand how much backlash is coming from those.

The site cpubenchmark shows a Core Ultra 7 155H (the older Meteor Lake series) as being 22.9% faster in multi-threading than a newer Core Ultra 7 256V (the new Lunar Lake series). These should be comparable processors as they are in the higher-end consumer laptops. So, what gives? Why all the hype over Lunar Lake? Sure they use less power, but it seems like you're compromising performance?

Hey Josh! Great video to begin with. I just bought MSI Stealth 16 AI Studio with Intel core ultra 7 and Nvidia rtx 4060 dedicated GPU, 32Gb RAM and 1Tb ROM version. It normally costs around 1999€+ here in Germany and I got it for just 930€.Although it gets warm to the touch, I really like it. Do you think it was a great deal? I would have gone for Snapdragon x elite but it has some compatibility issues with CAD programs I use and having a dedicated GPU is better than an integrated one.

Dont worry about it. HP doesnt even have a driver page for that laptop yet. So if you would reset windows on it, to get rid of its fuckingly shit preinstalled bullcrap....you couldnt do that. Back then it was much easier because the x86 chips Apple used were literally the same ones that Windows was natively written for. I think there'd probably be quite a few extra steps to get a version of Windows written for a different implementation of ARM to run on Apple Silicon. But sure, I guess it must technically be possible.

The only difference compared to the models you had in your videos for both these laptops is that the zenbook comes with 32gb of ram here in Australia instead of 16gb. Would love to get your thoughts because the constant discrepancies between the US and Australian supply and price of laptops has made it quite hard for me to decide which laptop to get, because these laptops either dont exist in Australia, have different specs, or are just so much more expensive here Edit: I did a quick google and found that Officeworks is selling the zenbook s 14 for $2600 AUD

Keep it up
Don’t buy a laptop with an Intel processor. It’s terrible.
the battery life is most likely due to the age of the battery, 8th gen Intel is LONG ago. your best bet is to buy a new battery and replace it.

What 720p display ? I think it is kore likely 768p i dont remember ever using laptop with screen under 768p in the last 15 years
you haven't mentioned that there are a very limited number of games working on mac (I am a mac user myself), but i do agree with everything else you said. I don't think a mac is the best option for a gamer as of today, maybe next year there will be more games available.

Really comprehensive overview of the relevant laptops available. Masive, thank you, and well done!
Waiting for nvidia laptop gpus and cpus.

Why did they make the Asus ProArt with only 60hz? I would have bough that one but I’ll have to get the Zypherous G16 instead for $400 more 😔
Get the g14
Is for creators it has every single color in the RGB spectrum of adobe.

@@SpongeBob.Ripped So thats how the algo works atm?
Last time I looked at it, the amount of subs and regular viewers mattered more than likes.
@@Waldherz that's 500% how it works. When almost-anyone is browsing RUclips now, the videos people click are recommended to them. The two BIGGEST factors in recommend are likes and comments. Of note, the Lunar Lake processors are a one off for Intel as they're expensive to produce. There are no plans for subsequent generations. Leaving the future of efficient processors to... Qualcomm? MS needs to sort out Prism.
They’re a one-off on integrating RAM onto the cpu. I don’t think they’re ceding the low power segment.
Thank you for the video! What do you think of the Dell Latitude 5455? Specifically, how does it compare to the Microsoft Surface 7?

@@DustyKing what if you want Windows? I have an M1 and rarely use it cause I need Windows for certain programs. I agree the battery and quality of the Mac are amazing but still not a Windows. If they had a touchscreen it would be awesome too. I also have an M2 ipad :)
I wish you guys could review the Thinkpad T14(s) / P14(s) laptops with AMD 7840 / 8840 / 8845 CPUs. Ive been on the fence for those but i see mixed stuff about battery. Otherwise they seem very solid.
Go watch Max Tech Apple silicon MacBooks vs more expensive windows laptops comparison & then talk. Windows laptops are nowhere near Apple silicon MacBooks in performance, battery life & efficiency. While the Mac was unplugged vs plugged into the charger windows laptop.
Just buy an Apple silicon MacBook which is cheaper, faster, has full performance on battery/when unplugged & better than windows laptop.

New subscriber here - I was able to snag an open box excellent Dell XPS 13 with a 256V for $800 out the door at Best Buy. Should I keep that if I am a light user just trying to upskill for work with light coding and general use like browsing and email?
This video was exactly what I need. Probably going to buy the Omnibook ultra flip as I can get a nice little student discount in the Netherlands. Perfect for studying.
That’s a trashy laptop
Hp power and thermal limiter kills yet another great laptop

Please review Tablets, Josh!
Josh. Im between a spectre 16 x360 and a lenova yoga pro 9i 16. Both 32g, trying to figure the best one to go with.
Thanks this really helps. Have you considered evaluating the LG gram line up. I see some good especial in Costco but I am not sure between the LG gram 2-1 16” and new Samsung Book 5 ? Your thoughts
I'd get the Samsung over LG. Yes I've had LGs in
@@JustJoshTech I have a question two please. I’m having a hard time deciding between the Surface Laptop and the OmniBook 14. You mentioned that the OmniBook 14 is the next generation of the HP Spectre, which I was already considering. Can you help me decide between the two?
Also, I have a Mac, and there are a few things that bother me about it-like the inability to copy multiple items at once and how it handles downloads. You said the HP Spectre is great, so I’m curious if the OmniBook 14 is the better option. The OmniBook 14 is $1600, and the Surface Laptop is around $1200. I'd really appreciate your thoughts and advice! 😊
@Gentleman139 If I didn't have multiple laptops like I do, where I can use the Surface and another... I would get the Flip over the Surface. It's more versatile. That is me though
Josh … What Flip you are referring too? Is this a 15-16” 2-1 laptop. I also noticed that you don’t have a category for 2-1 in your recommendations. Could you add this category. Again an LG gram pro 2-1 16” with 32 ram, 1T , 2k display , Ultra Core 7 for $1100 is very tempting
@@JustJoshTech so it’s called the omni book book flip 14? Or Omni book ultra flip, it’s still better than the HP Spectre 360 right?
What is a good recommendation for 15.6” screen and numpad built in laptop?
Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition - is pretty good all things considered. But might depend on what your needs are.
Hey !
In France, Lenovo made a deal with the Yoga Pro 7i, 32Go RAM, 1To storage and a RTX 4060 for 1500€. Is it a great deal between Price and Performances ? I really want an ultrabook like this for my engineering studies but the price is quite higher for me. Have I to jump on this deal ?
Lenovo garbage 😂😂😂
i think you can get a 4070 for that price, have you checked deals on the legion linup ?
@@Gin-chan hahahah 🤣 enjoy always being plugged into the charger with your ga y looking rainbow pride laptop 🤭🤭🤭
@@Gin-chanyes but Legion’s are heavy ( more than 2 Kg ) so these aren’t ultrabook

Josh, you are maybe sleeping on the incredible Thinkbook 13X (185H)!
I like that laptop. We had one and used it. We will add it to the website as it is a nice laptop
@ There’s currently only ONE review on RUclips (125H) by Andrew Marc so this could be a great opportunity to make your own. Personally, I’ve never held a windows laptop that feels so perfect in my hands - the build, screen, speakers, and performance are all exceptional from my point of view.
@@Uomodargillavery bad laptop. Ouch.

Why are there so few options for AMD AI chips? Seems like only Asus is using them.
MacBook Air M3 or Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura? For programming? 😢
M3 MacBook Air. But I would recommend a M4 14-inch MacBook Pro tho.
@DustyKing you just love mac books or an employee for them

@DustyKing what about if windows?

Best laptop under 4500 usd for gamer/student/coder?
In what user category which you fall in if you have like 100 chrome tabs open?
I don't get it- if one of the high performance needs is high end games, macs don't support games. The ending is very confusing.
For games, just buy a $500 PlayStation
This
Well then don't buy a Mac if gaming is one of your high performance needs. What is confusing you?
I think this is for office computers, you are looking for gaming class computing
Im waiting for Lunar Lake to have sales.

Windows laptops are more expensive than MacBooks in Europe, and with Apples student discount they are insanely cheap compared to everything else on the market
