  • In today’s increasingly automated world, there’s still no replacement for precise motorcycle clutch work. A well-maintained clutch facilitates added control and increased vehicle life. In this episode of MC Garage, Red Bull street freestyle rider Aaron Colton shares his insight on how to keep the clutch mechanism well maintained and smooth-feeling. This video applies to any manual transmission-equipped motorcycle fitted with a cable-actuated clutch. Watch, learn, then get in the garage and get your motorcycle ready for the road ahead.

    Personally I would not use Pressure Pack Lube ??? It has solvents that evaporate in some cases leaving a heavy drag rather than a smooth feel. Yes !! been using the Bag trick for near on 40 years now and simply fill it with 5 Wt Hydraulic Oil ( Hydraulic Oil has very low tack but high shear stability low drag ) I leave overnight with a drain tin under the lower end of the Cable and allow it to drain through for 24 Hrs ( This prevent excess from dribbling all over the bike ) I mad my own Lever's ans alloy mounts and use 608 Skate bearings in the pivots :) . Nice Video .
    The Brake ? that is for the Rear is it ?

    If springs are shot, does that make the clutch feel heavy at the lever?

    • @ville2070
      @ville2070 4 года назад +1

      No

    • @AaronColton93
      @AaronColton93 4 года назад +4

      Usually it would actually provide a softer feel at the lever as the springs memory would start to atrophy. I personally have not yet had issues with the springs themselves wearing out with the exception of big bore minibike auto clutch setups.

    • @superplanetbruh
      @superplanetbruh 4 года назад +1

      you need to do as this video or replace the cable

    • @alexduey7868
      @alexduey7868 4 года назад

      No you actually have to compress the springs when you pull the clutch in. tat is how it releases pressure off the clutch to let you shift gears

    I just recently took my motorcycle to have the clutch discs (or plates not sure for the name) replaced for new ones, but now that I got it back, the clutch lever is harder to pull than before, much harder, making it tiring to use, the mechanic told me that was normal since it's new clutch discs and that I would get the hang of it, sounds weird to me, but is it true?

    So i have a problem with my bike. There is a ticking vibration sound coming down form the fan/where the air filter is. I had the shop do a air filter change on the bike, and it started after i picked it up.
    Its only there when its in gear. when its idling there is no sound its perfectly fine. so i know its not the cam chain. But soon as i take off it starts. especially around 2nd to 4th gear around 6-7k rpm.
    You know how you give it gas then let go a little and let it catch it self on the cruising rpm? thats when it starts. anyone know what it could be?

    • @AaronColton93

      I really have not had the best of experiences with OE hydraulic clutches. Often lacking in lever feel and finite clutch modulation. My trail bike is currently a Hydro clutch and although I miss the feel a cable clutch provides it is nice to be maintenance free.

    • @AaronColton93
      @AaronColton93 4 года назад

      A motorcycle that has one is most likely developed with one. I have removed a fly by wire system to upgrade to a traditional cable pull but never the other way around.

    What type of multi purpose lube graphite, silicon spray or just wd40?

    • @VanTheManSLB
      @VanTheManSLB 4 года назад

      There are some products (sprays) sold as ''Cable lube''...
      And some motorcycle manuals say engine oil, what you normally use on your bike.
      Don't know what he used in this case (he just talks about ''Multi propose lube'', nothing specific) but you should be good with the cable lube or oil. Wouldn't use wd40 and the other options you say don't really seem much better to me tbh.

      Stunt bike riders have that second lever hooked up to their back brake so they can control the rear brake while standing the bike up without having to cover the pedal with his foot. Rear brake keeps you from going passed 12 o'clock 👌
