Thanks for watching! There is some info on my gear for this trip in the video description. I will be doing a review video for the 100L Mountaineering Pack from Russian Cold Camo. Awesome winter or multi-day bag. russiancoldcamo.com/collections/multi-day-packs-1/products/russian-army-military-mountaineering-backpack-80-20l-emr-digital-flora
Winter survival is for tough guys and gals. There is something in fitting into this harsh surroundings, making there home for the night. You prove to yourself that you are a part of nature. Stay strong Jess! Awesome setup btw.
FIRST!... haha.. Seriously. Im looking forward to winter drills this year. I may even take some good food out with me.. You Kaba looked amazing! Yes Im still watching..
Nice! Thanks my friend. I really dig winter too. Completely different landscape and challenges. Meat on a stick in front of the fire really doesn’t get any better lol seasoned with a little garlic, salt, paprika and thyme. For drills... I want to work on no fire or very minimal. Have a good one!
I’m sure that jerven is warm and functional, but it reminds of the scene from “spies like us” when Chevy chase and Dan Akroid dress up in those white suits and Christmas light. Crazy how its cold and snowy there and it’s sunny and warm here- I’m only few hundred miles from ya lol. Loved the video bro.
Lol thanks Joe! I remember that scene/movie. We are a little further north, but also a little higher elevation. Its just at the point where winter hasn’t set in. Alternating rain and snow. Have a good one!
Beautiful prints on all that gear. My Cold vs Wet debate….I hate being cold but I hate more being cold and wet😂😂😂. Unfortunately in a real SHTF sitch, we have no say about the weather. I just 🙏 we go RD in the summertime… Killer gear here. Loved the camera work. Very fluid pacing/storytelling. D😎🇺🇸
Thanks brother. The camera work/editing keeps it interesting for me. 100% on the cold and wet lol As for the timing, hope for the best, plan for the worst. Heat, fires... that could be an interesting problem. I hear birds, and there is about 30 seconds from time of awareness until they are overhead. Tarps, trees all help with the heat.
Thanks to you, I have to get a Russian tent hammock. Since watching your videos, I had to get a couple Plash Palatkas, Polish lavvus and the Ratnik 6SH120. Keep up the great videos.
That part where the trees crossed over the stream was beutiful, looks like a great time to be in the woods, i really want to do some winter camping where i am here in michigan .
I'm really digging the EU / Russian gear. Jerven bag is legendary in Norway. I've had a Jerven thermo hunter for many years now. It's an awesome addition to any kit.
Good Evening Jess .. That was a good one 👍 with a pretty effective-looking camp setup. Winter brings it's challenges .. but with it, the resultant rewards. A fat broth like you had goes a long way in keeping the internal fire going during a cold night. Speaking of Bannock .. I had some yesterday with a Potato Soup made on my Bushbox LF SS .. yumm .. although still not Ribeye 😊. Have some leftover dough skulking in the fridge (I often make up mine beforehand .. gives the baking powder time to do it's thing) .. skulking in the fridge that I'll decide it's fate tomorrow 😏. Thanks for sharing .. until next time, take care .. Tommy
Thanks Tommy! This is one of my favorite times of year to be out. Winter has yet to set in, so the weather certainly keeps it interesting. Glad to hear you like bannock as well. I like to mix mine up before heading out as well. How do you like to cook yours? All I have tried has been on a stick beside the fire (mixed results) and cooked in a pan. Have a good one!
@@Taromovies Hi there Taro .. EXACTLY 👍. I used your recipe with the Bacon and added to it Onion, Garlic, Tomato, the Herbs and Spices (of course) and Cayenne Pepper Flakes for some 'bite' .. it was absolutely delicious! I would recommend it to All to try. As I was home-alone and 'baby-sitting' the little Malti-Poo .. what with the weather a little too chilly for her for an extended stay outside, I made use of my 3rd floor flat balcony .. in 'Stealth Mode' of course (Charcoal instead of Wood .. you know .. the 'Swiss Grannies' 👁 .. they see everything 😁). A great recipe and definitely one to be repeated soon .. and next time with carrots and anything else that I can scrounge. Thanks for commenting Taro .. take care .. Tommy
@@EnduranceRoom Hi Jess .. Yep, Bannock is 'lekker' (Afrikaans for nice). In South Africa, we call it 'Stok Brood' (Stick Bread) .. the equivalent of the Australian Swagman's 'Twister'. Likewise, we roll the dough into a thin 'snake' and then twist it around the stick, leaving a slight air gap between each successive twist. This allows the heat to penetrate between the dough more effectively resulting in a more thorough 'Cook Through' and a crunchier treat. Pulled off the stick, it resembles a thick spring that has been pulled out of tension .. very lekker 😊. How to cook it .. me? Over a fire on a stick. In a Pan over any heat source .. although a more gentle heat is the most effective. Directly on the Grill Plate on my Bushbox LF .. Charcoal works well in this instance as it gives off a better-controlled and lower heat. The Grill Plate restricts the size of each Dough 'Patty', but then what's the rush? 😊. I am mulling over experimenting with creating various types of 'Dutch Ovens' using the Cooking Gear that I have on hand. Lastly, if I'm really in 'sleg' mode (sleg = inter alia, bad, useless, no good .. etc), I pop it into the Oven at home .. 20 minutes at 200°C on Thermofan, on a piece of baking sheet on a wire grill to allow for air circulation all around. Then enjoyed as a snack together with anything one chooses. Yep .. Winter .. nice .. take care .. Tommy

hi, was just referred to your channel by corporals corner. love to watch these videos. where i live the ground is rock and hills at 45° so tents are impossible to setup and there are no trees and weather varies in temperature and usually very windy, i would love to see someone trying to setup camp under these difficult conditions. just a suggestion.
Thanks Jane! I know what you mean. There isn’t much area like that in my immediate area, but I have been there. I used a trekking pole to support my tarp and weighed the corners down with rocks and logs on the flattest spot I could find. There is a video of that trip from about a year and a half ago Overnight in the Catskills.
Terrific video brother! Love a forest full of snow! Really cool solo tent and that running stream was soothing to hear. That backpack looked quite comfy and spacious .. looking forward to more winter outings! 🤙
Thanks so much brother! This is one of my favorite times of year to be outside. Definitely keeps things interesting. Its been alternating rain and snow without a deep freeze. Have a good one!
I had a 100 liter pack once, downsized to an 80. Even with the harsh weather we can have here in Alberta I was hard pressed to fill it up, but being a smaller fellow I could have almost used it as a shelter!
Awesome Jess, you finally got some snow! Great campout and that you can use your hammock as a ground tent also. I was wondering why you put your Grabber blanket shiny side down? I thought you were supposed to put the shiny side up to reflect your body heat. Also wondering how the MSS Intermediate bag did by itself? I have the MSS sleep system also. I used that bag plus the Patrol bag on an early spring camping trip and that worked well. I know that it's supposed to be good alone for 10 degrees and below zero temps if I remember right. Did it keep you warm enough? Have a great Thanksgiving.👍⛺🔥🍖
Thanks Jeff! I use the green side up just for cosmetics lol Its pretty scarred up. If it was really cold, I would use the silver side up. I really liked the MMSS bag. At 9:29 you placed your yellow bag up onto a tree. Is that your food stuff? At 10:10, what is the purpose of the orange flag? Thanks for the videos. I enjoyed it.
Thanks! Yes, food bag. The orange signal panel was used as a demonstration for a marker so you can move around the perimeter of the camp and not lose it. Works well day or night. Cheers
Great to see you having a good time out there and seeing you using some of my favorite equipment as well, like the Skrama and the Jervenbag! One question: did you have any problems with condensation in that tent? kind regards, Taro
