New subscriber here. Great videos! I bought a greatcoat similar to yours years ago. I believe it was military surplus from Sweden or Norway. Got a new respect for it now!
Excellent. That coat looks like an impressive bit of kit 👌 looks the part too. Your use of the old school is always fascinating. Also are them leather gloves old German Bundeswehr surplus? Because I have the same gloves if they are, cheap as it gets and just top notch. Think I picked mine up for 4 or £5.
Thanks Will! The coat is early 2000s British I believe. I think I got it for $50. Doubles as an extra blanket. Really nice. The gloves are German. I thought they were East German, but maybe newer. Really excellent kit. Cheers man
Hi Jess .. Nice 👍 .. a real blast from the past. I expected at any moment to see a Political Commissar come barging onto the scene, demanding to know why you were not at that day's Pre-Assault 'Pep Talk' 😊. And, I'm sure that, were they around at the time, 'Ivan' would have been able to forage for himself a Silky Saw, Skräma and such (use what you've got 😉). I've got a Wool Coat bought at a Budget Store about 20 years back for the equivalent of $ 5.00. Not an Army Great Coat (my Mom resized my Military Issue Coat back in '69 to fit my Step Father .. he was only 5' 2"). More of a 'New York Mafia Don Top Coat'. Pure Wool .. it currently hangs at the Front Door and is a regular Winter Outdoor Companion. Once again Jess, a nice share .. thanks. Please don't be shy and keep them coming .. take care .. Tommy
Hey Tommy! Thanks my friend! ‘Pep talk’ 😂 “Foraging” sure seems a lot like common sense, given the circumstances. Gotta love a good bargain store find. Thats where I have gotten the majority of my wool. I had a wool vest on this trip for an extra warming layer at night. I believe it was a button in jacket liner, $3. Can’t beat it. I am going to keep em coming as long as I can, my friend. The woods time is my reset. I know you know what I mean. Tommy, ever have any strange experiences out in the woods? Have a good one!
@@EnduranceRoom Jess .. strange experiences .. 🤔 .. Here in Switzerland in my neck of the woods, things are pretty quiet. I've seen Deer close up .. they're quite tame as hunting is very strictly regulated and only (to my knowledge) for population control purposes. Wild Boar .. at a distance only. They're very shy, forage at night and hide up in deep sections of forest quite a few clicks from my area. Earlier years in Southern Africa .. wandering around aimlessly North of what is now known as Namibia .. if, whilst hunkered down in a TB, being on the receiving end of of a salvo of MRLs (BM21's I think? We called them 'Rooi Oog' / Red Eye, on account of the signature they made in the sky) .. if .. then that 'could' be called somewhat 'strange .. was my first time'. They missed .. their 'Kentucky Windage' was a bit out .. direction too. Although, during one similar excursion, again hunkered down for the night in a TB. We were using our Bag Inners as it was during the cooler months. I was awakened by what I thought to be a Lion trying to get at me in my Sleeping Bag Liner (sort of an African-Style Burrito I must have looked like to it). I'm struggling to get my rifle out of my bag (our 'wives' slept up close to us .. likewise facing outward) .. out of my bag enough so I could shoot the bugger. This was difficult as I was pinned completely by said Lion .. mouth muffled too, making it more difficult to shout for my Buddies to help me .. and not due to lack of trying. The penny began to drop when I heard voices saying .. whispering (to this effect), "Tommy, Tommy, calm down .. SHHHH .. QUIET! .. relax, you're having a nightmare." 😁 .. so I was .. and there were 4 of my mates sitting on me, trying to keep my rifle in the bag with me and me quiet at the same time. In excuse .. I have a pathological fear of Lion .. completely irrational at times (I imagine Lion in Bushveld Areas many kilos from where they actually occur). Perhaps when much younger ..from reading about actual encounters with Lion in the early days in then-wild Southern Africa .. 'Man Eaters of Tsavo' .. Peter Hathaway Capstick, etc. Lion did occur in the area in question, so perhaps that was in the back of my mind that evening. So much of the 'Useless Information' .. no Yeti or such .. yet .. 😏. Now that lion incident .. it took place some 40-odd years ago and I haven't related it to anyone in over maybe 20 years .. wow! Take care ..
Thanks Martin! It was that cold two days ago, today it was raining. Strange. My sleeping pad, insulated Klymit model, is definitely a huge asset. Have a good one!
I love seeing the Gorilla tape dotting the mylar ground sheet. Nothing says well used like Gorilla patches 😂. I admit mines got 3 or 4 itself just from using it to cover the woodpile.
And here I thought I was the only one who used his Silky saw to start a fire by striking it off a big ferro rod. Do I have a nice knife with a good spine capable of doing it? Sure do, but that's the backup and never the primary. Silky works just as well and is safer to use.
Awesome video dude. You continue to inspire. Got my ass out to scout a new location the other day. Might be moving my camp lol. Small Video up showing a wee bit of it Thanks for all your hard work and inspiration. Cheers
Hey Bro! Thank you! We are doing good. Just keeping the fire going. Winter is here. Been wondering how things were. Hadn’t seen you on here in a minute. Everything good your way?
@@manuelacevedo5150 I know brother... I know. You too. Three shifts. Thats crazy my friend. I hope it’s temporary. I been there. That no sleep thing gets old quick. If things start getting too crazy, good time to go camping.
Funny I just got thrown off a "Gun Fighters" channel for suggesting wool over synthetics for the winter because it didn't fit their phantasy.. Is your greatcoat Czech or Romanian? I liked the bone buttons.
Its interesting seeing folks perception of things. Especially the “boog boyz”. My Frau shares a lot of news on IG, and is always kicking their little hornets nest. The coat is early 2000s British. Found it at my old surplus store back in PA for $50. I got so many good deals in there. I opened up the pleat at the back, which lets it be spread out like a blanket when the waist belt is unbuttoned. Thanks for watching brother.
@@EnduranceRoom I had one of those from Sportsmans back in the early 2000. I had a house on the water and WOW was it thick and killed the cold wind so well.. Sadly I left it behind when I came here. I did get a new one recently. A German Sentry greatcoat. Like the ones they used in WWII but a modern version nearly identical. I hope to get all that old wool out for a drill one night.. anyhow enjoy the rest of your day.. Ivarr
Plash Palatka or Lavuu? Wonderful video, glad to see the old school equipment, wish you would have a short follow up detailing your belt set up, that cool canvas bivvy, etc.
Thank you! It was 3 plash palatkas. I did do a video on the belt rig a few months back. I think it is titles Survival Belt Rig. The bivvy is excellent, Korean War era USGI. Well worth picking up. Breathes unlike gortex, highly water resistant and warm. Cheers
It was 3, makes a half 4 sided pyramid or a 3 sided triangular pyramid. I set it up as the “half”. The smaller footprint is warmer. But the 3 sided triangular setup is really nice, definitely room for two. The stove has me a bit sketched out. The pipe needs tied off at the top and anchored down. When it gets hot, its glowing red hot. The spark arrestor at the top of the pipe makes it top heavy. It dislodged inside my lavvu a few months ago and I had to grab it with my gloves and chuck it outside. I was lucky. Part of the problem is the pipe. When I first burned it in, I did a spiral roll, rather than long fold roll, which is how it should be. It took the memory of the spiral, and now when it gets hot, it wants to revert back to the spiral. I trimmed it in half, and now its better, but at same time... yikes 😬
@@EnduranceRoom ohhh man yeah yikes for sure I've actually complained to Pomoly about how thin their stove pipe is its actually 1/2 as thin as my Seek outside stove which is noticeably stronger I have since ordered the solid titanium chimney pipe from Pomoly very cool little extra just a little impractical for big shelters no worries stay safe bro!!😁✌💚
I used an arbor knot or Canadian jam knot on the tripod, and then i used a few simple half hitches to tie off a few other things. Very basic, but very useful. Cheers
After sleeping out in those temps a pain reliever would definitely be needed. Thought about you Friday. Stopped in a surplus store in Houston after leaving my eldest knucklehead’s place . Glad you’re doing well.

It works pretty well, blanket inside the bivvy, with greatcoat on top as an extra layer. Had to rebuild fire about 5am. The Klymit insulated sleeping pad is key. It is excellent. Had it two years now and works awesome
Much appreciated Brother. I keep whittling away at my 10,000 hours. I remember a few years ago, sleeping out in 15F and it kicked my butt. Hamstrings got so cramped up from the cold, felt like piano wire about to snap. What a difference a few years can make. Cheers my friend. 🤝🌲

Love the outdoors. Wish I was out there right now. Looks like your Mylar blanket has seen better days...lol. I'd be patching mine too 😁👍. Thanks for the video man. Love your videos. Now I'm reorganizing my pack.....again...lol.
Thanks Mike! This grabber blanket is my first one lol. I just keep throwing tape on it and its good to go. Appreciate it dude. Have fun with the pack!
Looks nice and sturdy. Also, you hardly used any cordage to make that tripod.
Thanks! Yeah, those really are solid shelter halves. The weight of the tarps is only about 9lbs, so in my mind the tripod doesn’t need to be too overbuilt, especially for a temporary shelter.
Found your channel from looking at French F1 tent videos a couple weeks ago and have watched almost everything. Love these videos.
Thank you, Richie! Appreciate it. Welcome to the channel!
Cpl Corner sent me nice channel
Thanks! Appreciate it. I used to have a 1985 big red. It. was a great bike.
New subscriber here. Great videos! I bought a greatcoat similar to yours years ago. I believe it was military surplus from Sweden or Norway. Got a new respect for it now!
Thanks Sonny! Appreciate it. The old school gear is still very relevant and useful. Cheers
It's always awesome and interesting for me to watch his job in the winter forest.😊👍👍
Thank you my friend! 🌲
@@EnduranceRoom 🙏🙌🙌🙏
‘Pep talk’ 😂
“Foraging” sure seems a lot like common sense, given the circumstances.
Really great overnighter Jess! Brrr.... hope your gear kept you cozy in those frigid temps. Have a great week my friend!
Thanks Tracy! It was a bummer the first couple of patches, but now I look at as a reminder for all the dirt time. Have a good one!
Nice video,,solo camping and camfire on snow
Thank you! 🌲
And here I thought I was the only one who used his Silky saw to start a fire by striking it off a big ferro rod.
Do I have a nice knife with a good spine capable of doing it? Sure do, but that's the backup and never the primary. Silky works just as well and is safer to use.
Another awesome shelter!
Thanks Kris! Appreciate it my friend!
How's that overcoat working out for you in those temps?
The greatcoat is aptly named, as it is truly a great coat and doubles as an extra blanket.
Awesome video dude. You continue to inspire. Got my ass out to scout a new location the other day. Might be moving my camp lol. Small Video up showing a wee bit of it
Thanks for all your hard work and inspiration. Cheers
Thanks James! Appreciate it. I will check it out. Glad to here you are getting some woods time. Cheers brother
A jess wear you bein haven't seen you in a minute merry Christmas, and happy new year's bro say hi to the Mis,,,,how everything up state, brother
Hey Bro! Thank you! We are doing good. Just keeping the fire going. Winter is here. Been wondering how things were. Hadn’t seen you on here in a minute. Everything good your way?
@@EnduranceRoom yeah bro I'm good working 3,shift but.good,you. this bull shit covui just turning everything up side down bro you keep safe now,,ok
Cheers
Oh BTW haha how many Palatkas were used 3 or 4?? Love this tipi style setup I'd bring the stove!!(=
How do you tie a knot with a tree?
What kind of knot method is this?
I used an arbor knot or Canadian jam knot on the tripod, and then i used a few simple half hitches to tie off a few other things. Very basic, but very useful. Cheers
👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!
After sleeping out in those temps a pain reliever would definitely be needed. Thought about you Friday. Stopped in a surplus store in Houston after leaving my eldest knucklehead’s place . Was slightly disappointed in their inventory. They did have a trench coat similar to what your wearing but the sleeves would have hit mid forearm. 😁 Looks like it’s getting a bit chilly up there . Glad you’re doing well.
Thanks brother. We are doing good. The storm is finally pushing this way. Its gonna be cold week. About time 😂 We had 6’ of snow last year at this point. Never know about the surplus stores, hit and miss. But when it is hit, its a hit. Have a good one!
@@EnduranceRoom going to be cold ? 😳 Think it’s already pretty cold up there 🥶
How warm did you sleep setup keep you?
It works pretty well, blanket inside the bivvy, with greatcoat on top as an extra layer. Had to rebuild fire about 5am. The Klymit insulated sleeping pad is key. It is excellent. Had it two years now and works awesome
@@EnduranceRoom I have one too and it has kept me warm. I have heard from others who said they got cold with it.
@@joshavery4814 Nice! Yeah, gotta have the right layers with it.
❤️❤️💪💪
🥶✊🔥😁✌💚 incredibly inspiring my friend you are on a serious level of skill!!(=
Much appreciated Brother. I keep whittling away at my 10,000 hours. I remember a few years ago, sleeping out in 15F and it kicked my butt. Hamstrings got so cramped up from the cold, felt like piano wire about to snap. What a difference a few years can make. Cheers my friend. 🤝🌲
