I put bindings on over the plastic sealing to keep the base protected on day 1. The company stickers let other riders know you're not broke and can buy new. Detune? Go carve!
It’s never going to hurt to wax a new board. Sometimes they don’t need it, still not going to hurt. Sometimes just looking at it tell you that it could use some wax. I don’t detune but I’d say that comes down to personal preference and maybe to some degree skill level or even might depend on board design or riding style. Binding, also personal preference/biology along with trial and error. Find a stance that seems comfortable, set bindings, ride, adjust accordingly. Is it winter yet?
What are your thoughts/feelings on detuning for hittin the steel? I personally don’t spend all day in the park and want to rip carves too, so it always makes me a bit nervous hittin rails.
Good question! Whether it's a park board or not, I like my edges sharp for carving too, so I never detune for hitting rails, only ever a little on the tips. If you're lacing your rails properly, a sharp edge shouldn't cause you to catch on rails
boards from K2, Ride, Capita, Salomon will come with a factory edge bevel so you can hit rails without catching. I'd only detune for rails if thats the main thing you ride and you like hitting kink rails and street spots. otherwise you'll be just fine! If the board feels a little aggressive or grabby, you can always just detune the edge at the contact point, this will mellow out the ride.
Call me crazy but I wax almost every time I ride. I like to be as fast as possible especially when the temperatures change drastically from day to day. I also think this helps with the longevity of the base. Cheers!
That board has rocker in the tip and tail (more in the tip) so the contacts points aren't all the way near the widest points of the tip/tail like they would be on a full camber board. He also detuned from the actual contact points to the widest points of the tip/tail. You can check where the contact points are on your board by laying it on a flat surface and seeing where the base comes in contact with the ground since it will vary by profile.
@@ieatants888 yeah just seems like a lot of effective edge to detune on a fresh deck, especially on a freeride board. I've always just gone about 2-3 inches back from the widest points and that's done the trick. Also would probably use a diamond file rather than a $6 amazon file
Agreed on it being a considerable amount of edge, but I can see the benefits of doing so for certain riding styles. Personally I don't detune any boards so I'm just summarizing what I've picked up from people/videos over the years.

Good points, and to add a small detail : I wouldn't detune a board with 3BT

I bet keeping the plastic on helps you go faster too🤘

Yeah almost everything could be broken down to preference

@@jstone18 The input the people needed 💪
Would you remove the factory wax and apply new wax for a new board? Or just wax ontop?
No, the factory wax is deep in the pores, removing it would require a base cleaner which would dry your base out, you can wax over it just fine
always wax new board and polish edges, detune tips and contact points, and file down top sheet edge.

Nice, definitely doesn't hurt
My huck knife pro never needed. 3-2 degree bevel is like not even having an edge

✌️
sintered base all day every day baby!!!
Only way
rode my new board and forgot it had storage wax on it, handled like shit :D
Oh no haha
You sure that's the contact point my dude?
