Best part of that entire medley begins at 1:45... I remember having this entire version of EXIT... STAGE LEFT that I ripped the audience from the DVD, then put it on my Ipod... I would drive and often just listen to that loop over an over. Geddy's most intense bass sound was definitely from the EXIT... STAGE LEFT DVD version, and that's one of the segments that showcases it
Tim, I thank you for your posted videos. We recently lost my brother who was an excellent bass player. He willed to me his favorite bass, a Geddy Lee Signature Series Jazz. In honor of him, I'm learning or, rather, relearning many old Rush songs. At age 61, that's a tough quest. Your videos are helping. Thanks again.
Tim is the Alex Lifeson of facial expressions on the bass guitar. I love watching him just rip through these bass lines and the expression on his face.
Thanks Tim, for the memories of watching Rush in Ottawa,Ont.Canada many years ago, like it was yesterday. And for being one of the few Bassist who can do this music justice. 😎
Yeah man , I do the same thing as him and I’m 51 !! Playing Rush never gets old!! What a sound!! I haven’t played the By-Tor ESL version in 25 years but he’s having so much god damn fun it’s made me remember how much fun playing to ESL was. The Freewill solo is different , YYZ , La Villa , That was the Album my brother brought up to my room when I was first learning bass by ear , I was 11 when I learned this, but it took me until I was 15/16yrs old to get it right and I mean . Hitch for hitch ,note for note right ! I was never satisfied until I knew the song 100% correct! That’s why we got to talk one of these days Tim, man we can share some serious stories and I’m one of the biggest Rush Bootleg collectors around , I got some killer versions of By-Tor that you want to add to your arsenal!! Lol. Thanks for bringing me back to life with playing Rush tunes again. I’ll be posting a song or 2 or 3 very very soon .
I never thought you'd do another upload of this - shows how wrong I was! Great job man even better than before. You even included 2112 and In The Mood! You have been truly blessed by the bass god himself
Dude, I'm a guitar player, not a bassist, but you get it, you really do. Awesome! I'm just giggling watching this. I rented ESL on VHS in the early 80s before I could afford to buy it, and I've been obsessed with this medley ever since.
I remember watching this concert air on MTV when it was released. For years I used my beat up and worn out VHS dub of that broadcast to learn the live versions of those awesome songs. I really wish they shot the footage in 16x9 and not in 4x3. This concert in its full aspect ration would have been stunning to look at! But who knew we would wouldn't HD tvs for another 20 years when this came out. The riffs on this version remind me of what he did in that infamous performance recording at the St Louis, Kiel Auditorium in 1980. Watching and hearing you do this song live last June Tim, was a treat in so many ways! Love that tone!
So, how exactly do you haul your gear on your Harley? Your vids are really ass kicking man. Trying to learn Analog Kids on my new Fender Ultra 5 string. Your video is helping a lot...not this one of course ha ha.
Have to come back and experience this every so often. It's therapy! 👍

Geddys licks are so solid, you really nailed it. The whole song is a bass solo.
He had to keep up with Alex, success!
