Oh, that moment was amazing ! I was there opening night ( age 18 ). But for some reason, I believed it right off the bat, for some reason I had no doubt.
With Return of the Jedi. We all debated if the Emperor in Empire was the same as the Emperor in Jedi. As they look different. As some thought there was more than one Emperor, and others thought it was the same, but just different make up. I remember a big debate about it on the playground.
I was in the theatre at the time ... I was a 10 year old kid and that moment was mesmerizing. That's why I care so much about the lore and its meaning. That's why I get mad at what Disney is doing to SW. Great video btw !
I never do this anymore, but back in 1980, I actually read the novelization of EMPIRE before seeing the movie! I didn't believe it. But when I saw the movie-- and HEARD James Earl Jones' voice-- in that scene-- with all the sound and music and tension-- suddenly-- I DID believe it! Wow. 3 years later, waiting in line for JEDI, I was joking with my best friend, talking about BOGUS revelations in the film that weren't in there at all... just to screw with anyone who might overhear us talking. 🤣
What a lot of fans don't realize is that that scene is a direct tribute to a scene in Jack Kirby's MISTER MIRACLE #9, where Darkseid speaks to Scott Free. Scott is not his son, but the situation is similar: Himon: It’s open to you, Scott! An open door to - Earth! Darkseid: HE CAN TAKE IT! I’LL NOT STOP HIM NOW! IF COURAGE AND BRAVERY TOOK HIM HERE! - SOME OF IT WAS MINE! STAY, WARRIOR! LET ME COMPLETE THE DESTRUCTION OF SCOTT FREE - SO YOU MAY LIVE WITH THE MAJESTY THAT IS THE POWER OF DARKSEID!
The best scene in Empire Strikes Back is the Vader/Luke confrontation. Though it's kind of sad in a way as you also know the movie is almost over. So you can't cherish it long compared to if the scene was earlier in the movie.
The plot twist about Luke and Vader was probably THE BEST ever written into a movie. I challenge anyone to name one that was more unexpected and puzzling, making you want to stick with the story and find out why and how. And Obi-wan telling Luke about his father's fate in A New Hope was perfectly metaphorical because he was being diplomatic with Luke; it wasn't the right time to burden him with the whole truth.
I think adjusted for inflation, ESB has the least box office return. If the beginning of ANH didn't make audiences jaw drops. There would be no 2nd film and no franchise. The sequel would have been the book Splinter of the Mond's eye." And that's it. Initially lots of fans didn't really like ot because or wasn't really fair Yale in a box like the 1st film. It brought more of a soap opera aspect.
The narrow focus on the core characters actually hurt the movie, I thought upon rewatching ESB a couple of years ago. I felt like once Hoth had been left behind, you didn't even really remember there was a war on. There was just a hunt for these particular characters and the training of another particular character. I felt like that sacrificed the larger galactic context. "The Last Jedi", on the other hand, which was a melding and reworking together of both ESB and ROTJ, preserved the larger context by having the First Order ships chasing and out to annihilate the Resistance *entirely,* so that even though the movie kept focus on the few characters having the most significant impact, the larger scope of the war was never lost. P.S.: I made the mistake of reading the comic book adaptation before watching the movie. (Likewise, I made the mistake of reading the novelization of ROTJ first.)
No. Star Wars became iconic since 1977. It became a franchise from then on, thanks to the comics, which were the beginning of the expanded universe. And it became a saga in 1980.
@@philippealain-art No, it became a FRANCHISE after the first SEQUEL was released in 1980 (No, we aren’t going to count “The Star Wars Holiday Special”)
@@jnnx No, you don't understand the difference between a multimedia franchise and a film franchise. In the case of the first Star Wars and the birth of the expanded universe with the comics, it was the birth of a transmedia or multimedia franchise. It's unfortunate for someone who's trying to teach a foreigner how to conjugate in English, in another comment.
One thing that bugs me is I've watched the Special Editions for so many years that it kind of ruined the movies with the new crap CGI. I did finally watch the Harmy and the Oohteedee versions a year ago and they are so much better. I can never go back to the official Lucasfilm versions. I wish Disney would finally release remastered theatrical versions some day. But I think they would have done it already as they've owned Lucasfilm for ever a decade now.
Empire Strikes Back is my all time favorite movie.
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Star Wars
3. Back to the future.

Moment and movie that changed blockbuster cinema. I was just a kid and it was a massive shock. Still fantastic all this time later.
Agreed. I was a kid at the time, reading the book ahead. It blew my mind that Vader was Luke's father.

Thats amazing, thanks for sharing. Wish i could have see it like that in the theater.

I was 12 at the time and I could not wait to get my hand on "Splinter of the Mind's Eye"

Just waiting for the comment section to be full of losers complaining about the sequel trilogy and Disney - as if they aren’t a part of the problem.
How does this have anything to do with the video?
